  1. Australia's flag bearer and four-time Paralympian had a nasty fall a few days before the opening ceremony. He cancelled one event and still marched out on crutches hoping to compete, but unfortunately had to pull out altogether.

On a lighter note, it was great to see the Russian crowd really get behind the Ukrainian flag bearer even though he had to go out there on his own due to the political unrest.

  2. Hopefully she'll fight back and get better soon. I know it took a huge amount out of Kleybanova who's only just come back after a long fight wtih cancer, hopefully she won't have it that bad. :(

  3. I've never really gotten into hardcore as much as I feel I should, probably because I prefer the clean vocals/melodic hardcore over screams/growls. Some songs/bands that I have enjoyed (that I think would fit into the hardcore genre) are Suicidal Tendencies, Off!, Alexisonfire, The Blackout, and a half-dozen obscure bands who I've heard a few songs by each.

    Such as...

I think this was the first real hardcore song that I heard, even though it doesn't quite get into the harder stuff for 70% of the song.

  4. 'Straya update: Katya Crema (who I'm probably not related to) did really well and almost managed to sneak a medal in the ski cross. Alpine and cross-country skiers weren't expected to do much but otherwise good results. The bobsleigh teams might be a little disappointed with their finish too but very good across the board for a minor country, competitors in most fields and the three medals the AOC were aiming for. Silver medallist Dave Morris to carry the flag.

Elsewhere, lol GB curling. We don't have a team in curling (a bit strange as it's quite similar to bowls) so coverage has been limited, but they just got thrashed by Canada. Moment of the games though has to be that ski cross race where 3 men fell on the last jump and there was almost a dead heat for second when they all just sprawled over the line :w00t:

  5. Against Me! are good, for newer punk I'd also suggest Wavves, FIDLAR, DZ Deathrays, Violent Soho (although it seems they're more towards the hard rock/grunge side of things). I'm coming up blank for many others though, might edit in some more later on.

  6. Crazy finish to the hockey bronze medal match. Sweden were 2-0 up on Switzerland going into the third before they ended up losing 3-4. When Switzerland got two goals up with about 1:30 to go they were celebrating like crazy, then as soon as the coaches tell them it's not over yet they let in a goal. Just survived.

  7. RE: my adventures in Paint.NET

I've discovered there is a lasso tool and a "magic wand" selection, but whenever I do that the edges of the cut are really unclean. There is a useful tolerance setting, but that doesn't make much difference for this problem. If there is something like that 'feather' tool you guys were talking about, where might it be?

Do you have the feather on Kirkland?

I ask because the edges are very rough and choppy. Turning the feather on between 1 - 2 will smooth that out.

  8. Wow, Russia are looking like they'll be put out by Finalnd, I don't watch much hockey but this is most unexpected. Boarder cross was a huge disappointment over here, but that's mainly because the media were telling everyone that Pullin was a sure thing and the others were a good chance too. Fortunately we did get a silver in the men's aerials, which was an incredible result since not too long ago Australia had no men's aerials team/staff/anything pretty much.

  9. Thanks for all the reccomendations guys, I'll get back to you when I'm done :(Y):

And in response to Eric, I've actually been playing the original Pro Skater fairly recently but with the sound down, definitely turning it up next time I do.

  10. I'd forgotten how much I love watching the boarder cross once every four years, it's a pity the whole competition is over within a couple of hours. Good result for Brockhoff in 8th overall but still only the two medals so far after Lassila's near-win in the aerials. C'mon Chumpy!

  11. I'm going to register my interests here, love most punk but I don't know heaps of it, mainly recent-ish Aussie pop-punk and stuff like that. I read Dave Grohl's bio 'This Is A Call' last year and really want to get into more of the earlier stuff.

As far as what I know already, I'm a big fan of stuff like The Living End, Frenzal Rhomb, Dropkick Murphys, Wavves, NOFX, Green Day (aside from their slower, preachy sort of stuff) and all sorts of skate/surf punk, pop-punk (if it's good), celtic punk and a bit of post-hardcore too.

  12. True, but we've done pretty well in recent years and have even more realistic medal chances than in previous years.

It's only one area, but a big area. Most of our athletes are actually based internationally anyway, but there are quite a lot of ski parks on the mountains around the south-east. According to the commentators, Shaun White supposedly had his own personal half-pipe built at Perisher and spent quite a bit of time there in the past year.

  13. What the hell was going on with the false start in the speed skating yesterday? Didn't look like there was one to me, even on the replay.

Another "almost" day for the Aussies, with Anna Segal somehow getting fourth in the ski slopestyle despite all her injuries. Was really hoping to see Scotty James do well too, but no luck for our guys in the half-pipe :(

  14. After losing home grand finals in both previous seasons of the Big Bash League, the Perth Scorchers have finally won the competition by beating the Hobart Hurricanes in this year's final. Personally I'm thrilled for them, especially guys like Katich, Hoggy and Craig Simmons, who has come out nowhere to be one of the competition's most exciting big-hitters this year.

The Hurricanes also get a spot in the T20 Champions League for finishing second, so we all get to see more of Bailey, Hilfy and Doug Bollinger. Hooray!
