  1. Killing off the person with the least amount of votes on day is a good way of discouraging lurking by making people post enough to not be the bottom poster. More posts will be good for the over all discussion as it gives more opportunity to make themselves look suspicious even if they are town. As you can tell from my lack of intervention on the whole Rider/Carbon dust-up, I like when things get heated. haha

  2. Its not a coincidence that Expendables was one of the best games we have had on here in a while.

I do like your point about changing it up after day 1. However, I don't like the idea of separating townies from scum for a lynch. I understand that making it townies only will force the townies to lynch, but if you exclude scum from the lynch, then scum can just not vote and possibly force the town to miss the deadline.

That's viable scum strategy. If the town isn't going to call them on that, then they should be able to get away with it. Its the town's job to hold the scum accountable, not the game runner. Game runner involvement should he negligible, and only occur when the town needs a fire lit under them.

Thank you. I'm a huge fan of letting players play whether it's Mafia, hockey, baseball, basketball or what have you.

How does town keep scum accountable for something like this if they don't know who is scum?

  3. Whilst the game took a while, I liked that Expendables had no deadlines (they weren't even mentioned IIRC) and people were just expected to talk it out and eventually reach enough of a consensus to move the game on.

The only deadlines I had were for the night phase. I did not want any deadlines on the day phase, because I wanted to create the environment that you just described. However, I was fully prepared to implement one if no progress was being made.

For instance, after a few days of people just spinning wheels and gaining no traction in Day Phase One, I told Hook on a Friday that if there weren't five votes on a person by Sunday night, I was going to slap a 48 hour deadline on Day One. But then Forky made his vaguely Bruce Willis post causing everyone to collectively go "WTF?" and lynch him.

  4. I can see it's value in some games, but it's a scum power at heart, and doesn't suit smaller games - in larger games where there are a bajillion power roles floating around, it can have a place.

But yeah - deadline mechanic should either be No Lynch at all or Random Lynch. Or smiting of the person with the lowest amount of posts.

Random Lynch is ok as long as it doesn't include scum. Rewarding the town for inactivity is bananas. The lowest post count has to die is alright, but I don't like that it can hit scum because reasons. I like no lynch for the first deadline, then death for townies for each subsequent deadline. Because if the town lets two deadlines pass, they deserve to lose anyway.

Sure, it can hit scum, but it's really easy to avoid being the victim of that kind of mechanic, so if you die because of it, you have no one to blame but yourself, like Ace.

  5. That wasn't in the rules!

Edit: Hell, you even felt bad about killing me afterwards that you tried to kick someone out of the game and have me replace them.

    It'd break the game!

And I only said that because I was drunk!

And I only kicked oldskool out of the game because he was also breaking the rules!

And you're still editing posts! :o

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO, MODKILL ME?! YOU CAN'T MODKILL A GOD!

I'd like to see that attempted, though. haha

  6. I do when roleclaiming is gamebreaking, as it has been in a lot of games recently. And I usually hate day 1 claims and no reason claims. But it's viable strategy in games where players can't say "I'm the main character of the movie, don't lynch me!" to excuse their poor play. And putting together a solid fakeclaim as mafia is one of the most fun things about the game. Taking those options away rather than trying to design a game where claiming isn't gamebreaking is the lazy way out.

I'll discuss with Hook how that is possible.

What about a clause that insta-kills Hook regardless of what game he is in?
