  1. In a very literal take on this topic, the creators of the Suikoden series actually wrote the story for the second game before the first one. First time developers, they thought the story for number two was too good to use for their debut game, so they wrote a fairly bare bones prequel story to make sure they knew what they were doing. Suikoden II being my favorite and most played video game of all time, I think anyone who's played them both would agree this isn't shocking at all, considering the actual gameplay aspects of the two are virtually identical, only vastly improved through minor details in the second. And the story for the first one, while not bad, is very much so a linear path that offered nothing particularly new to the genre. Then Suikoden II came along, and it was a completely unique Shakespearian tragedy, with layered storytelling most video games still don't attempt to this day.

    Holy shit, Dee is evil.

I saw the ending coming the whole episode, except for the fact she planned it. When I realized she was doing it on purpose I actually clapped. It was definitely evil, but I always heavily appreciated that Dee got devious on the level of Frank or Dennis. Or Cartman. Like, as far as getting revenge for something really petty goes, this was an all-timer, and ya gotta love that.

  4. Triple H and Steph get divorced, HHH gets NXT in the settlement. Easy enough.

Or, if you want to keep them together, Vince retires and surprisingly gives 100% of WWE exclusively to Shane, pissing Stephanie and HHH off to the extent they branch off with NXT as its own venture to fight him.

Either way, NXT instantly partners with some streaming service and starts up as a touring brand, finding incredible success, but wanting to stay regional or do everything through the Internet, cutting down travel costs as much as possible, delegating to individual brands. Triple H travels like crazy, though, and probably the ultimate NXT Champion does, too, whoever that may be.

Rosters would be based on who's loyal to Vince/WWE, who's loyal to Triple, and who has no loyalties in particular, and would just work where they live/near the promotion that caters to their niche.

  5. Buffy's one of my favorite shows ever, but the first season is definitely weaker than what comes next. It's fine as a fun little monster show, though that in no way compares to the emotional masterpieces that would follow. The changing point is Angel, and the perfection is already there by Prophecy Girl.

I also agree with Parks & Rec. It felt a lot like The Office-lite for a while, then it started creating its own brand of wackiness around the time Ann and Andy break up. They never worked as a couple to begin with. Most people would say the same about The Office, but I think only the Pilot episode is flawed, and they instantly picked up by Diversity Day.

I disagree re: The Wire. I was enthralled by episode one, and never slowed down. Same with Arrested Development, though I agree it gets better the more times you watch it.

In a slight twist on what the topic asks, I'll add Twin Peaks to the mix. The first season is actually great, but the middle of the second season totally drags. However, the finish is one of the best in TV history, and you have to slog through some boring stuff like James dating an old lady and Harry's girlfriend turning into a wooden knob (this actually happens) before the goodness comes back.

Oh, and there's this show called Monday Night Raw which was a total slog in the early days, with this hack comedian loudly ruining everything with his rambling. It got really good for a while in the late '90s there, early 2000s, but on the other hand, some would argue its even worse today...

  6. Ah, man. I thought she was gonna make it after all.

In all seriousness, I always liked the Dick Van Dyke Show, and just recently started watching the MTM show thanks to a marathon I caught the other day, and it was pretty awesome, too. She definitely changed both television and comedy for women. And who could ever forget her shocking heel turn at WrestleMania VI, when she voiced her unabashed support for Rhythm & Blues?

  7. I listened to way more music after high school, so this is more of a general list than confined to any particular time period in my life.

    Prince - Purple Rain
Daniel Johnston - Hi, How Are You
    Kanye West - 808s & Heartbreak
    Björk - Post
John Coltrane - My Favorite Things
The Replacements - Let It Be
Leonard Cohen - Songs of Love and Hate
    Philip Glass - Glassworks
Liz Phair - Exile In Guyville
Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over The Sea

Purple Rain is the first album I bought and is still tied for my favorite with Hi, How Are You. The two albums have totally contrasting moods, but both speak to me very powerfully. And the tunes are just great. Batshit insanity notwithstanding, Kanye will always be one of my favorites, and 808s is his best album. The fact so many people disagree only serves to endear me to it greater. Björk is a special and unique creature, and Post is the best representation of her talents. Coltrane introduced me to jazz, Glass to classical, and the Replacements to everything left of the center. Cohen and Liz Phair are just great, and I kind of didn't want to include NMH on there, but if I'm being honest, I guess I had to. Every single person I knew in college played it nonstop, and I mean, it is pretty great.

I wanted to include 69 Love Songs by The Magnetic Fields, as well, but 10 is 10. Its amazing though, and with 69 perfect songs, there's something to fit absolutely every mood. I also wanted to put Trout Mask Replica on there, cuz if you're being trendy, be trendy. But I guess NMH covered that one.

  8. Hard to call a shock when he gave multiple interviews throughout the year about how he knew he was dying and stuff. Still a drag. Songs Of Love And Hate is one of the best albums ever made, and I don't think he ever made an completely bad one. I've only read Beautiful Losers of his written work, but its a strange, interesting little novel. He was an original, unique, and incomparable figure in pop culture no matter how you look at it.

"What can I tell you, my brother, my killer?
    What can I possibly say?
I guess that I miss you, I guess I forgive you.
I'm glad you stood in my way."

  9. The Room is truthfully one of my favorite movies.

    http://theinterrobang.com/like-film-loses-entire-5-million-budget-starts-cultural-movement-isnt-ironic/

That's an article I wrote about The Room and bad movies and stuff. And here's an interview I did with Tommy Wiseau.

    http://theinterrobang.com/tommy-wiseau-conversing-bizarre-mysterious-extraordinary-neighbor-room/

The only movie that truly compares to The Room in my opinion is Fateful Findings. Neil Breen is a very slightly more American Tommy Wiseau, and his film makes just as little sense as anything Tommy has done. There are even more absolutely bonkers sex scenes than in The Room, too. And the ending is probably the most bizarre and ridiculous thing that's ever happened in a movie, and if anyone can get through it without laughing, I'd be amazed. The entire film is on YouTube, and if you have an hour and a half, go watch it.

    Some other great ones:

Gymkata - An Olympic gymnast pommel horse expert becoming a karate master. Yes, there is an intensely contrived pommel horse fight scene, and it's amazing.

Zardoz - The plot of this movie is literally that Sean Connery is the only man on Earth who can get a boner.

Over The Top - Arm wrestling has never looked so gritty, and most people who watch this film agree Stallone seems like he wants to fuck his kid the whole time. Also, Terry Funk is in it.

The Wicker Man - Most people know this one. Nicolas Cage's finest hour. I'm very anti-violence against women in general, but I laugh almost every time he punches a woman in the face for no reason. Especially if one of them is wearing a bear suit. Which they often are.

Can't Stop The Music - fake biopic about The Village People, and how super duper straight they are, despite the fact they literally bathe together. There's dicks in this movie. It's rated PG.

Monkey Shines - best ever horror film about a killer helper monkey I've ever seen.

Trapped In The Closet - more of a music video, but I consider it the musical version of so bad its good art. R. Kelly is more like Tommy Wiseau than anyone seems to realize. He's an insularly insane person and he makes outrageous films, but people give him just a little bit of credit since unlike the directors of these other flicks, R. is actually a genius musician. But a goddamn insane filmmaker, nonetheless.

I also love Mystery Science Theater 3000 and thought their reunion show was very funny. Pretty much everything they cover is great, but my faves are The Final Sacrifice and Space Mutiny. Buck Plankchest. First RockBone. Hack Blowfist. Trunk Slamchest. Big McLargeHuge. We will, we will, Rowsdower.

  10. I live in LA so I run into celebrities reasonably often. Usually its people I don't care about so its nbd. Bob Odenkirk was definitely the one I liked the most, but I didn't talk to him cuz he looked like hell and we were in public. I'm sure it was him, tho. We were right under a giant Better Call Saul billboard where he was all airbrushed and stuff and the contrast was very funny.

I also was on the crew for a documentary starring Larry King, so I hung out with him and took pictures. He's not exactly a favorite or anything, but he's obvi a huge star and it was cool working with him.

My favorite interaction is coming this Friday, when I will be interviewing Tommy Wiseau. I won't meet him in person but I'm stoked he's even going to be calling me and we'll be talking for a little while.
