  4. As always, great RAW and Nitro (especially Nitro). It's great to see Rhodes back, since it gives you an opportunity to ressurrect part of the storyline(s) that WCW had going before the WWF purchased the company in March of '01.

I'm really glad you took what I said about Booker and the US title and did something about it that didn't involve vacating the title. Making Booker pull double duty at the Clash is in keeping with what happened at the Night of Champions, and also fits his gimmick as it was in '01 at the time of the WWF buyout, and pitting him against Kanyon is a great idea that, fortunately, you had already been sort of building towards as part of the mini-feud between Flair, Booker, and Goldberg.

Although I would have personally liked to see Shannon become the #1 Contender to the WCW CW title, I can see why you went with the Dragon. I'm also interested in seeing where you're going to go with Shannon's new 'solo artist' gimmick.

I like what you're doing in regards to Bigelow; he, Sanders, and DDP all have similar styles, which makes them a good trio to use against each other. I'm glad that we're gonna get to see Sanders vs. DDP at the Clash, and wouldn't be surprised at all if Bigelow ends up becoming involved in the match in some capacity.

Jarrett's alliance with Juvi and Psicosis seems, at first glance, to be a bit of an odd pairing (since you wouldn't automatically think about Jarrett finding two Mexican Cruiserweights to do his dirty work for him, especially not during '01), but you're finding a way to make it work. I'm looking forward to RVD vs. Jarrett at the Clash.

On the RAW side of things, things are really starting to heat up between the Coalition and the guys (Rock, Kane, and 'Taker) opposing them, and I'm continuing to enjoy where you've been taking this storyline.

Even though I think Benoit/Jericho vs. E&C is a great storyline, there's a part of me that would like to see the two Chrises given a shot at the main event and the Coalition; that being said, though, I'm still enjoying what you're doing with the Chrises and E&C.

The Raven/Eddie stuff is interesting, moreso because you wouldn't necessarily think of them facing off with each other (at least not in '01), and could be a great way to give Raven the major push he so sorely deserves (hint, hint ;)).

Although I don't really like Steph's gimmick when she's a heel, I do like her, and this thing you've got going with her, Trish, and Chyna continues to interest me, although I do think you should look at phasing Chyna out of things and just letting Steph and Trish go at it. I'd also suggest finding a way to get Ivory back into the mix, as well as women like Jacqueline and Molly Holly, since the longer the WWF Women's division remains essentially a 'one-woman show', the more risk you run of de-valuing the Women's title even more than it already was at the time.

The Goldust/Regal feud has taken an interesting turn, although I'd suggest that you be careful and not stray too far into political incorrectness with this 'Goldust as a lunatic' angle, since it's something that could turn into a disaster if mishandled.

P.S.: In regards to a potential reformation of the Horsemen, I disagree with you that Kanyon and Stasiak aren't Horseman material; Stasiak, gimmicks aside, is/was a great technical wrestler (much like Mr. Perfect/Curt Hennig), and Kanyon, while not a technical genius, has the 'look' that'd make him, IMO, the kind of person that Flair'd pick to fill one of the slots in the Horsemen were the group going to be reformed.

P.P.S.: I don't want to unduly influence you, but since you've taken my advice before, I wanted to tell you that I think it'd be a big mistake (in terms of de-valuing the US title and Booker's credibility as a champion in general) if you make him lose the US title in his first defense of it. Although it would make more sense for him to not be encumbered by double-champ status for a prolonged period of time, it's also important that the US title not lose value and that Booker not lose credibility as a champion in general. I'm not telling you what to do here, but it's something to keep in mind.

Once again, good job with RAW and Nitro. The Clash looks to be a great PPV, and I'm looking forward to it with great anticipation.

  5. Great Nitro. Can't wait for the Clash.

I'm intrigued by this major announcement from Shane. Here's hoping it involves the US title in some manner.

I'd actually like to see you bring LeRoux up from OVW full-time and start a mini-feud between him and Angle. Although I'm not too familiar with LeRoux and his character, something about his segment with Angle strikes me as a golden opportunity for you to create more stars (similar to what has been done on Smackdown! for the past few years).

Really enjoying what you've got going on in regards to the upper midcard/main event scene, particularly in regards to Flair. Even though you've got him saying that he doesn't like 'new' guys coming in and stealing his spotlight, you've still got him giving the 'rub' to guys like Kanyon and Stasiak, which strikes me as the perfect lead-in to the reformation of the Horsemen (you'd just need to find a fourth member). Not saying that you SHOULD reform the Horsemen, only that the current storyline you've got going could be used as a great lead-in to a Horsemen reformation.

Like I said, I can't wait for the Clash, and I also can't wait to see what you've got planned for this major announcement from Shane.

  6. Just finished reading Backlash, RAW, and Nitro, and I have to say that I'm continuing to enjoy this diary. Even though I would have liked to see some of the Backlash matches (Kane vs. HHH; Goldust vs. Regal; E&C vs. Benoit and Jericho) end differently, I can totally see why you booked those matches the way you did.

In terms of RAW, I really like what's going on in the main event scene right now, especially in regards to 'Taker, Kane, HHH, and Austin. You've managed to sort of follow what happened in real life during '01 involving these 4 men, but have also added your own twists and turns, which is something that I like. I also like what's going on with the rest of the card, particularly in the E&C vs. Jericho and Benoit department.

Even though I am enjoying the WWF/RAW side of things, WCW/Nitro is where my interest truly lies, and you're doing a bang-up job with that brand. Every single one of the storylines you've been running has me interested from the top of the card to the bottom of the card, which is actually a rarity since, even back when I was watching WCW actively, there were only a few storylines that I actually cared about, and most of them involved upper mid-card and main event guys. I'm particularly interested in where you're going with the Kanyon/Booker and Flair/Booker/Goldberg mini-feuds.

The only real complaints I've got are that you're not using Shane in an on-screen capacity (see below for more), and that you've yet to have Booker defend the WCW US title in any capacity. Not having a title belt be defended for weeks at a time works when the person holding said title belt is a heel (i.e. JBL currently and The Big Show back in '04), but since Booker is not a heel, he should be defending the belt at least once every couple of weeks (possibly more). Anyway, I digress; getting back to the Shane thing, I can understand why you've chosen not to use him as an on-screen presence, although I personally like him when he gets the chance to flex his authoritative muscle, particularly when he's playing the role of a Face, and really think you're missing out on some golden opportunities by not having him appear on Nitro any longer.

Anyway, I'll quit ranting and close this review with another vote of confidence... You've been doing great with this diary so far, so keep up the good work.

  7. Great to see this diary back. Don't remember if I responded before or not, but if I didn't, I read it when it first started, and have just gotten caught up, and I have to say that it continues to be great. One thing, though: 'Taker ain't "Dead Man 'Taker" at this stage; he's "Biker Taker", his theme music is "Rollin", and he's billed as hailing from Houston, Texas.

  8. No offense, dude, but getting rid of the Women's division really is a bad idea. Although Victoria was the only real women's wrestler on RAW at this point in time, there are ways to get around that without disposing of the title.

That, combined with the TV title thing (wouldn't ever happen, especially with Bischoff in charge) and the Goldberg thing, really stretches the realistic credibility of this diary (even though you've done pretty well in making Goldberg's return work, even if it won't't ever actually happen IRL).

  9. I'm really liking this diary. The nWo was grossly mishandled IRL, but you've made up for the WWF's mistakes and fixed the 'slide' without changing the results of Wrestlemania TOO much. Your rosters are also quite good, and it's hard to tell, at least at this point, which roster has more 'star power', as it were (something you also did better than the WWF IRL).

I can't wait to see what you do with Smackdown!

  10. Now this is a VERY interesting diary; as someone who used to watch TNA but isn't all that familiar with the NWA in general, I find it very interesting that you're NOT trying to duplicate TNA as it exists now, but define it as something that is both familiar (at least to me) and unique at the same time. I think you've got a great eclectic mix of stars, and am interested to see how and where things progress from here.

  11. Hogan is using his Real American theme ...

When it comes crashing down, and it hurts inside,

ya' gotta take a stand, it don't help to hide,

Well, you hurt my friends, and you hurt my pride,

I gotta be a man; I can't let it slide,

I am a real American, Fight for the rights of every man,

I am a real American, fight for what's right, fight for your life!

I feel strong about right and wrong,

And I don't take trouble for very long,

I got somethin' deep inside of me, and courage is the thing that keeps us free,

I am a real American, Fight for the rights of every man,

I am a real American, fight for what's right, fight for your life!

Well you hurt my friends, and you hurt my pride,

I gotta be a man; I can't let it slide,

I am a real American, Fight for the rights of every man,

I am a real American, fight for what's right, fight for your life!

I am a real American, Fight for the rights of every man,

I am a real American, fight for what's right, fight for your life!

As for the future, Jericho lovers will like what I have in store for a Jericho/Hogan feud. Hogan is the huge baby face here and Jericho is the monster heel. Hogan hasn't had a feud with the way he's over now yet (w/ the constant chants) ... so it should be a good one.

The next Nitro should be up by the end of the weekend, with segments following tonight and tommorrow. I had some time off, so I had a chance to really get this diary rolling. Also, I'm considering changing up how I write matches, shortening them slightly. This last nitro took like 3 hours to write, sim, and then edit for the boards.

  12. Nice Nitro; I would have liked to see Heyman's 'prediction' have come true, but I'll take what I can get.

BTW, I actually LIKE Hogan in WCW, although I do question how you're gonna be able to keep his ego in check. I do have one question regarding the Hulkster. What theme song is he using?

  13. Great first two shows. I especially liked Smackdown! and Ric Flair's US title win. I've thought for a while now that the US title has been sorely under-used and mis-used, especially since it was put on Orlando Jordan, and it's good to see that I'm not the only one. I look forward to seeing what you do with the title now that Flair's the champ.

    Keep up the good work.

  14. Again you deliver a great show. It's interesting to see you use the Val Venis gimmick with Morley being a heel (cause I never would have thought about doing it). I also like the fact that you're using Bagwell in singles competition again, and hope he gets the US title. I'm also interested in seeing where you go with the CW, CW Tag Team, and Lance Storm/Mike Awesome storylines.

  15. Hey. Nice diary so far. I was a much bigger WCW fan than I was a WWF fan back in the day, and this diary is seriously rocking. Here's my predictions for the PPV:

Chavo Guerrero vs. Eddie Guerrero (WCW Cruiserweight title match)

Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Scott Steiner

Rick Steiner and Saturn vs. Booker T and Chris Jericho (WCW World Tag Team title match)

Diamond Dallas Page vs. Bret Hart (WCW United States title Match)

    Raven vs. Sting

Goldberg vs. Kevin Nash vs. The Giant (WCW World Heavyweight title match)

Hollywood Hogan vs. Randy Savage (Retirement match)

  16. Hey sycodmn. I like this diary so far. It's interesting. BTW, I'd like to see you use The King again (as well as try to maybe recruit some of the WWE's 'fringe talent' (like The Rock) for 1-off appearances).

To follow the trend, here's some predictions on match outcomes:

    WWA Heavyweight Title Match

    Scott Steiner d. Samoa Joe

    WWA Jr. Heavyweight Title Match

    Juvy d. Psicosis

Ten Man Pinfall, Submission, or Over the Top Battle Royal

    Stevie Corino wins

CW Anderson and Simon Diamond versus Diamond Dallas Page and Rick Steiner

Page and Steiner d. Dimond and Anderson

    Sean Waltman versus Brian XL

    Sean Waltman d. Brian XL

'The Modern Day Warrior' Chris Kanyon versus 'The Straight Edge Icon' CM Punk

    Kanyon d. Punk

Hardcore Ninjaz w/ Joel Gertner versus The Rock n' Roll Express

    RNR Express d. Hardcore Ninjaz

  17. Thanks for the feedback, kaplanir. To add to my co-poster's thoughts, the main reason I came up with the idea of doing WarGames on Nitro is because it's something that I feel can be used in a way similar to the WWE's TLC match: a gimmick that, when the situation warrants it, can be utilized on free television. Like Marcus already said, I felt that WarGames was the best way to follow up the previous week's Nitro and also felt that it worked in the context of J.J. Dillon deciding to take a stand. It was, I believe, one of WCW's most brutal matches at this point in time, and would have, in my mind, been perfect punishment for the Outsiders (who weaseled their way out of their tag team title defense because of how bad they got beaten by The Giant the previous week).

    NITRO RESULTS

    February 16, 1998

If fans were looking for a NITRO that would outdo last week’s, they weren’t disappointed. The show began with a bang, as the new foursome of Sting (now sporting red face paint), Randy Savage, Lex Luger and the Giant, dressed in black T-shirts emblazoned with a red version of the nWo logo, made their way to the ring to make it clear where they stand with WCW and the nWo. Sting took the mic and offered an explanation for their assault on the nWo the previous week, declaring that it was high time the nWo got a dose of its own medicine. Savage then took the mic and gave his alliance with Sting, Luger, and Giant an official name, calling it a 'new New World Order'. He then handed things back to Sting, who said that, while he, Savage, Luger, and The Giant hate the nWo just as much as anyone, “the cowardice of the WCW makes us ust as mad.” As the fans became unsettled, Sting went on to explain that the group’s issues with WCW extend through the locker room on up to the Executive Committee. He singled out James J. Dillon as being the antithesis of Eric Bischoff. “Where Bischoff ruled with tyranny, J.J. Dillon rules with apathy…” Sting challenged Dillon to “Do unto the nWo as they have done unto WCW.” What was supposed to follow was a World Tag-Team title match between the Outsiders and the team of Ernest Miller & Glacier.  In place of Hall and Nash, two midgets dressed in similar ring attire came to the ring. Storming back to the ring, Sting once again singled out Dillon, who this time answered the call. Sting insisted that allowoing the nWo to send midget look-alikes to the ring “is an example of the apathy we were just talking about.” Dillon, faced with the realization that maybe he really hasn’t taken his job as seriously as he should have been during such stressful times, shocked everyone in the arena by announcing that, later on in the evening,  a WarGames would be fought on a stage other than the Fall Brawl September PPV, with the participants being Sting, his comrades, and the nWo foursome of 'Hollywood' Hogan, Taz, and The Outsiders,  whose involvement in the match, he said, was punishment for their failure to perform their obligations as WCW employees by weaseling their way out of their originally scheduled Tag Team title defense. That match served as an unofficial preview of sorts for SuperBrawl, as Sting forced Taz, his SuperBrawl opponent, to tap out to the Scorpion Death Lock.

In addition to its WarGames main event, Nitro was the place where several more matches for SuperBrawl were announced. While at ringside to provide guest commentary during a match between WCW United States Champion Chris Jericho and the bizzare Raven, Dean Malenko officially challenged the 'Lionheart' to a match for the US championship at the PPV. He also ensured that Jericho would keep the title going into that match when he called his friend Chris Benoit down to to the ring to attack Raven on Jericho's behalf.

In other action on Nitro, the team of Rey Mysterio Jr. and the WCW Cruiserweight Champion, Lizmark Jr., picked up a huge victory over the nWo Japan when Lizmark pinned The Great Muta, a victory that resulted in the two Japanese superstars challenging their opponents to face them in singles competition at  SuperBrawl, the Steiner Brothers emerged victorious in their individual singles matches (Rick defeated Curt Hennig and Scott defeated Chris Benoit), Eddie Guerrero defeated Diamond Dallas Page to retain his Television title, only to be challenged to a title match at SuperBrawl by Booker T, Wrath and Mortis officially challenged the nWo's Buff Bagwell and Scott Norton to a match at SuperBrawl, and Ric Flair defeated Raven's ally Saturn, after which he addressed Curt Hennig's claim that he was a coward and a has-been by challenging the so-called 'Perfect One' to face him next week on Nitro.

    Match Results

The Outsiders (midget imposters) d. Ernest 'The Cat' Miller and Glacier (WCW World Tag Team Championship Match)

Lizmark Jr. and Rey Mysterio Jr. d. nWo Japan (Lizmark pinned Muta)

    Rick Steiner d. Curt Hennig

Scott Steiner d. Chris Benoit (due to interference from Raven)

Eddie Guerrero d. Diamond Dallas Page (WCW Television Championship Match)

Chris Jericho d. Raven (WCW United States Championship Match)

    Ric Flair d. Saturn

Sting, 'Macho Man' Randy Savage, Lex Luger, and The Giant d. 'Hollywood' Hogan, Taz, and The Outsiders in WarGames (Sting made Taz submit)

    NITRO PREVIEW

    February 16, 1998

Hot off the heels of one of the most explosive and shocking shows in recent memory, Nitro comes to  you with only six days to go before SuperBrawl. With only half of the card for the event finalized, expect this week's edition of Nitro to go a long way towards fixing that problem.

Also this week, the four men who were at the heart of the shocking events that ended last week's Nitro (Randy Savage, Sting, Lex Luger, and The Giant) are scheduled to be in the house, and rumor has it that they will be addressing what transpired.

We will also see three title defenses this week, as United States Champion Chris Jericho defends his title against Raven, Television Champion Eddie Guerrero defends against Diamond Dallas Page, and the WCW World Tag Team Champions, the Outsiders, prepare for their SuperBrawl match with the Steiner Brothers by defending the gold against Ernest 'The Cat' Miller and Glacier.

Speaking of the Steiners, they will both be in singles action, with Scott facing off with Chris Benoit and Rick taking on the nWo's Curt Hennig.

We'll also hear from 'The Nature Boy' Ric Flair, who is scheduled to address comments made by Hennig last week concerning events that occurred in late 1997 and that had previously been believed settled.

    Confirmed Matches

    Rick Steiner vs. Curt Hennig

    Scott Steiner vs. Chris Benoit

The Outsiders vs. Ernest 'The Cat' Miller and Glacier (WCW World Tag Team Championship Match)

Eddie Guerrero vs. Diamond Dallas Page (WCW Television Championship Match)

Chris Jericho vs. Raven (WCW United States Championship Match)

    NITRO RESULTS

    February 2, 1998

The nWo came into Nitro riding high after 'Hollywood' Hogan and Taz beat Sting within an inch of his life and walked away with the WCW World Heavyweight title belt last week. However, by the end of the night, the group's demeanor had changed from triumphant arrogance to shock, fear, and confusion, as Sting, who was not scheduled to be in attendance, made his presence felt anyway. During a match between the 'Macho Man' Randy Savage and Taz, which had been set up by 'Hollywood' Hogan after Savage attacked him from behind with a steel chair and returned the WCW World Heavyweight title to J.J. Dillon and WCW, the nWo got involved and began beating on Savage. The attack, which evoked memories of Taz and Hogan's assault on Sting the week before, was cut off when the lights went off and Sting, who was not scheduled to be in the arena, showed up in the rafters. What made Sting's appearance shocking, aside from the fact that he was not scheduled to be in attendance, was that he appeared to have abandoned the white facepaint that has become a defining trademark of his appearance since late 1996. The Stinger grabbed a microphone and challenged Hogan and two other nWo members to face himself and Savage in the main event of next week's Nitro, and also made it known that he intends to defend the WCW World Heavyweight title against Taz at SuperBrawl.

Elsewhere on Nitro, it appears as if 'Lionheart' Chris Jericho may have touched a nerve with his comments about being the first-ever WCW Cruiserweight competitor to hold the United States championship. Just moments before facing off with Rick Steiner, Dean Malenko, the 'Man of 1000 Holds', disputed Jericho's claims by reminding the 'Lionheart' and the rest of the world of HIS reign as the US champion, which began on March 16th, 1997 with his defeat of Eddie Guerrero and ended on June 9th, 1997 when he lost the title to Jeff Jarrett.

Also, Lizmark Jr. continued his impressive winning streak when he defeated the nWo Japan's Masahiro Chono, although he paid for his victory when Chono and The Great Muta attacked him after the match was over, and Booker T, who returned to the ranks of tag team competition when he and his brother Stevie Ray defeated the Faces of Fear, made it very clear that he still has issues with Eddie Guerrero when he nearly cost Guerrero the TV title by interfering in Guerrero's scheduled title defense against Chris Benoit.

    Match Results

WCW Cruiserweight Champion Lizmark Jr. d. Masahiro Chono (non-title match)

    Rick Steiner d. Dean Malenko

Eddie Guerrero d. Chris Benoit (WCW Television Championship match)

Harlem Heat d. The Faces of Fear

Raven d. Ernest 'The Cat' Miller

Scott Steiner d. Diamond Dallas Page

'Macho Man' Randy Savage and Taz wrestled to a No-Contest when the nWo attacked Savage

    NITRO PREVIEW

    February 2, 1998

Last week, Sting suffered a hellacious beating at the hands of 'Hollywood' Hogan and the nWo's newest member, Taz, who made off with the WCW World Heavyweight Championship belt. As a result of that attack, the Stinger is not scheduled to be in attendance this week. One man who WILL be present this week, however, is J.J. Dillon, and he is scheduled to address, among other things, the nWo's theft of the World title belt and Taz' contractual status.

Also last week, the new United States Champion Chris Jericho made some controversial comments when he claimed to be the first-ever WCW Cruiserweight wrestler to win the United States championship desipte the fact that two other WCW Cruiserweights, Eddie Guerrero and Dean Malenko, have held the belt in the past.

Speaking of Malenko, he will be in action against 'The Dog-Faced Gremlin' Rick Steiner. Last week, the Steiners received a rematch for the WCW World Tag Team titles at SuperBrawl, but will not be competing as a tag team until that match. Scott beat Hugh Morrus easily last week, and now Rick looks to do the same against Malenko this week.

Also on Nitro, the new WCW Cruiserweight Champion Lizmark Jr. will be in action against the nWo Japan's Masahiro Chono, former Television Champion Booker T will team with his brother Stevie Ray to take on The Faces of Fear, and Eddie Guerrero will defend the WCW Television Championship against Chris Benoit.

    Confirmed Matches

WCW Cruiserweight Champion Lizmark Jr. vs. Masahiro Chono (non-title match)

Dean Malenko vs. 'The Dog-Faced Gremlin' Rick Steiner

Harlem Heat vs. The Faces of Fear

Eddie Guerrero vs. Chris Benoit (WCW Television Championship Match)
