West Ham boss Alan Curbishley has confirmed the club have held talks with Derby over the signing of Giles Barnes.
Curbishley also refused to completely rule out the possibility of resurrecting the Kieron Dyer deal which collapsed last week.
Barnes is one of the most sought after young players in England and played a huge part in helping Derby get into the Premier League.
After seeing the Rams promoted, it was expected that Barnes would stay put at Pride Park.
However, Curbishley has now revealed that The Hammers have been talking with Derby about a possible deal for the 19-year-old - who was actually born in East London.
Talks confirmed
"We have been looking at the situation and we have spoken to Derby about it," Curbishley told Sky Sports News.
The Hammers boss explained that the two clubs cannot agree a fee for Barnes.
"At the moment nothing is happening - their valuation is not where we are at and he is a Derby player so I shouldn't be talking too much about it."

Fair points. My reasons for not liking Crouch are I think he is poor in the air, is easily pushed off the ball, as an average touch, an average vision, no pace and an OK finish.
My opinion of Crouch is not so much him but the face if he is Englands 3rd forward after Rooney and Owen then we are screwed.
And dwsnuk yes I was talking bout Fowler I was makin a joking (evidently not a good one)
-
...Tennant's not leaving, though, is he?
-
Rumours at the moments are Ben Kingsley as Davros and James Nesbitt as The Doctor.
Personally not sure bout first one but after seeing Jekyll Nesbitt would be great to replace Tennant. If not could make a great master.
What do you guys think?

I'm all for different choices just cannnot stand crouch. And with no banter/slagging off it is not footy (Y)

Man U stick Ronaldo up there, and also have Solskjaer.
And Liverpool have Crouch.

6M for Smith is way too much for me personally.
And as for them having a better set of strikers than the top 4, I know its probably just hyperbole on your part, but thats not true. Owen and Martins are really good, Smith doesn't score goals anymore really and can't be relied on to, and Viduka is one of the laziest players going when he wants to be, and pretty good when he has decided not to be lazy.
-
Alan Smith to Newcastle for 6 million. Ferguson is laughing this year, first the fee for Rossi now that for Smith.
£6m for Smith is about right IMO. I wouldn't pay any more than that but I don't think that's an unreasonable amount for him.
-
Giuseppe Rossi's gone to Villareal for a reported £6.7m fee and I'm gutted.

Would I be the only one who'd find it hilarious if Pompey won every game 3-1, 2-1, or drew 1-1, for the rest of David James' career? ¬_¬

Ignore League 2 then
And for me the play-offs in league one is between Blackpool & Yeovil.

(Just started posting in non-diary areas so apologies for not reading the history of this thread but here are my thoughts)
Championship:
Sunderland will win the league (BTW: I'm a a Man Utd fan so may be bias to Keano) but I doubt many can see them give up the lead that they DID earn.
Derby to finish 2nd, Preston to win PO's
League 1:
L. Orient will stay up and Carlisle will win the PO's
