The FAA is already deflecting blame for the death of Billy Mays -- claiming the legendary TV pitchman wasn't wearing a seat belt when he took a shot to the head during a rough landing on a flight he was on yesterday.

Here's what we know -- Billy Mays was aboard U.S. Airways Flight 1241 flying from Philadelphia, which landed roughly when the front tire blew out as it touched down. After the flight, Billy told FOX 13 in Tampa that something struck him in the head -- here's Billy's actual quote:

"All of a sudden as we hit you know it was just the hardest hit, all the things from the ceiling started dropping. It hit me on the head, but I got a hard head."

We called the FAA for comment, and a spokesperson told us, "The passenger needs to wear a seat belt during landing and he didn't."

A spokesperson for US Airways did not want to comment until more information comes to light.

DEVELOPING: Television pitchman Billy Mays — who built his fame by appearing on commercials and infomercials promoting household products and gadgets — died Sunday, FOX News confirms.

Mays was found unresponsive by his wife inside his Tampa, Fla., home at 7:45 a.m. on Sunday, according to the Tampa Police Department.

Police said there were no signs of forced entry to May's residence and foul play is not suspected. Authorities said an autopsy should be complete by Monday afternoon.

Mays, 50, was on board a US Airways flight that blew out its front tires as it landed at a Tampa airport on Saturday, MyFOXTampa.com reported.

US Airways spokesman Jim Olson said that none of the 138 passengers and five crew members were injured in the incident, but several passengers reported having bumps and bruises, according to the station.

Authorities have not said whether Mays' death was related to the incident.

"Although Billy lived a public life, we don't anticipate making any public statements over the next couple of days. Our family asks that you respect our privacy during these difficult times," Mays wife, Deborah, said in a statement on Sunday.

    What a horrible week.

  3. Phillies TV man Kalas dies at 73

WASHINGTON -- Longtime Philadelphia Phillies broadcaster Harry Kalas has died at the age of 73, team president David Montgomery said Monday.

Kalas, who had also filled a voiceover role for NFL Films since 1975, was taken to a hospital Monday after passing out in the broadcast booth before Monday's game against the Washington Nationals.

Montogomery's voice was cracking as he said "we have lost our voice."

The 73-year-old Kalas, known for his distinctive "Outta here!" call on home runs, was found by the Phillies director of broadcasting at about 12:30 p.m., Montgomery said.

Kalas joined the Phillies in 1971. Before that, he was an original member of the Houston Astros' broadcast team from 1965-70.

In 2002, he received the Baseball Hall of Fame's Ford C. Frick Award for his contributions to the game.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Didn't know him much as a baseball announcer, I knew him more as the guy behind NFL Films. He had a great voice, and will be missed.

  4. Not sure if this deserved a new thread, but..

I've never had any online issues with any other games. I've played Madden, NBA 2k9, NCAA Football, etc. and have never had issues connecting online.

For some reason, I cannot play MLB 08 or 09 online. I can connect to the servers to download rosters and connect to games, but as soon as the loading screens finish the game runs smoothly for about 5 seconds then i get the "Traffic Delay" message and I get disconnected every time.

Is there anything I can do to fix this? I just find it odd that I can play any other game online but The Show.

  5. Sources: Burress wounded in accidental shooting

New York Giants receiver Plaxico Burress suffered an accidental gunshot wound Friday night in a club, according to multiple sources.

Details of the incident weren't immediately available, but according to a source the wound was not considered life-threatening.

Fox Sports.com reported that Burress accidentally shot himself in the leg and spent the night in the hospital.

Burress, who was not expected to play against the Washington Redskins on Sunday because of a hamstring injury, was not at team meetings and did not attend the team's Saturday walkthrough.

The Giants organization was not commenting on the story.

In September, Burress was suspended for a game and fined for a violation of team rules, reportedly failing to appear at a team meeting and being unavailable by phone. At the time, his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said that Burress was tending to urgent family matters.

Burress signed a five-year, $35 million contract this fall after helping the Giants to a Super Bowl championship last season.

Guy just can't stay out of trouble. Nothing says badass more than by shooting yourself.

  6. Muschamp to take over as coach at Texas when Brown retires

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp has been designated head coach-in-waiting by the university, expected to take over the Longhorns when coach Mack Brown retires.

Muschamp is in his first year with the Longhorns, but athletic director DeLoss Dodds said Tuesday he and Brown know they want to keep him at Texas. To do that, they will more than double his salary from $425,000 to $900,000 in January. He will remain defensive coordinator.

Dodds said he wants the 57-year-old Brown to coach for a long time but said he wanted to line up Muschamp now to avoid the "trauma" of a coaching search when the day comes that Brown steps down.

The No. 3 Longhorns (10-1) are preparing for their Thanksgiving night game against rival Texas A&M.

    ESPN.com

That is fucking awesome. I am so pumped and happy that he'll be at Texas for a looooooooooong time.

  7. So the Titans just had a great 2nd half turnaround after being down 14-3 at the half winning 24-14. The Titans aired it out again, and beat them throwing the ball and playing superb defense.

I'm interested to see what excuses the Titan haters on this board use now.

  8. But apparently that's not enough, we all have to bow down to Tennessee and praise them as the most perfect team ever and predict they will win the Super Bowl.

    Makes Sense.

The Titans remaining schedule looks like this

    @ JAX 4-5

    vs. NYJ 6-3

    @ DET 0-9

    vs. CLE 3-6

    @ HOU 3-6

    vs. PIT 6-3

    @ IND 5-4

    Combined W/L: 27-36

So even if the Titans go undefeated, people here are going to use the same argument that "they don't have many quality wins, and are untested come playoff time".

Do I think the Titans will go undefeated? Probably not, I think they'll slip up a game or two, I hope I'm wrong, however. But the Titans proved yesterday that they can win a football game throwing for 289 and rushing for only 20 yards, and having a 3 game lead in the AFC doesn't suck either.

  9. Well, looks like Cleveland fans are calling for Romeo Crennel to be fired, and I don't blame them. Last night, Brady Quinn was solid, but the quarterback wasn't part of the problem, that defense is just AWFUL.

  10. I still think Texas is sitting pretty at number 4.

Bama still has to play LSU and Florida, I think they will lose one of those games.

Tech has to go through the same gauntlet Texas just went to. OK State and Oklahoma on the road, I bet they lose one of those. If that's the case, the Longhorns will pass Tech in the rankings despite losing to them. The computers really like Texas. I think the computers will favor a 1 loss SEC or Big XII team before they go to an undefeated Penn State or a 1 loss USC.

  11. The Denver Nuggets are expected to trade Allen Iverson to the Detroit Pistons for Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess, Pistons team sources told ESPN's Stephen A. Smith.

The deal has not been finalized.

This would be the second time Iverson has been traded in two years. He was dealt by Philadelphia to Denver in December 2006, kicked out of Philly over irreconcilable differences as part of a package that brought Andre Miller to the 76ers.

Stephen A. Smith covers the NBA for ESPN.

I don't really understand why either team would do this, but whatever. Hitting the panic button early much?
