  1. Is anyone else considering backing the new MCDM RPG that just funded on Kickstarter? I've been a fan of Matt's stuff for a while now, he's basically how I became a DM. I think the new RPG sounds interesting, with an cool vision for what kind of game they want to make. But maybe it's just because I'm burnt out with 5e

  2. Just finished up the first kind of 'Arc End' session of my campaign. The players defeated the Necromancer that was terrorizing the town, only for her last act to be destroying the effigy to the god of death in the mausoleum. This led to the second phase of the fight where they had to fight off an unending sea of undead while their cleric ally attempted to rebuild the effigy and stop the dead from rising. Really fun stuff and really the first time I felt really in my element behind the screen. They levelled up and now have to decide what they're gonna do about the goblins and bandit gangs running around the local area.

  3. Played D&D again for the first time in a month and a half. Party wandered into a forest and got attacked by some stirges that I used from the MCDM monster book Flee, Mortals. Fun little encounter. No one went down, but pairing it with a bird of prey from the same book offered some really fun opportunities to mess with positioning. It's good to be back behind the screen

  4. I've been slowly but surely getting back into D&D after a bit of a disastrous campaign and man, I forgot how much I love worldbuilding. Going from a point where I was legitimately concerned I may never have any passion for the game again to now, where I'm super excited to just noodle away on this tiny region of my world map is a really good feeling. It's made me really excited to run a game for the first time in a long time

Somehow I ended up playing in D&D every day this week except for tonight.

Streamed games on Twitch on Sunday & Tuesday, a monthly game that just started on Wednesday, DMing in a Westmarches game on Thursday, an in-person game on Friday and my usual home game on Saturday.

How has DMing a West Marches style game gone for you? I was literally coming in here to post that I've been thinking of running one and to see what peoples opinions are, both as a DM and as a player. I've never played in or DMed one, but they seem like a lot of fun.

I've always heard bad things about X-2, but I've never played it myself. But it focuses on Rikku and Yuna, whom I both love, so I might have to actually give it a go one of these days.

X-2 is really fun, but it's a departure from the gameplay of X, which is probably why a lot of people don't like it. It seems like anytime Final Fantasy deviates from it's sorta formula, people don't like it. But it's pretty fun from what I've played of it

I'll second the FF 10 recommendation. FF 12 is also a good shout right before the series went off the rail insane.

OK, I agree with both of these recommendations, with them being my 2 favorite games in the series. But 12 is where you pick as right before the series went insane? Did you just never play 8?

Has anyone run a behold battle? My Out of the Abyss part is going to be fighting one soon, and annoyingly, a battlemap is NOT included. So I am looking for a map that would work well for a beholder fight.

I've not run one, but if I were to give advice, or try and run a Beholder combat for my group, I'd include probably too much cover for them to protect themselves from the eye stalks. But I'd make it destructible, because I'm not sure what the right amount of cover would be, but if I overshoot, then I can have the Beholder or its minions destroy some of the cover throughout the battle and that makes it feel dynamic for the players when it's really just me adjusting difficulty to make it properly challenging. Part of the fun of a Beholder combat is how they're gonna deal with the eye stalks and in particular the anti-magic field, so I'd try and base the combat around that

  10. I've been thinking recently about beginning a West Marches style campaign, but I've never played in or ran one before. Has anyone run/played in that style of game? A more player driven style of gameplay interests me as a DM

  11. So this is the guy who convinced me to start streaming, and right now he's supposed to be streaming WoW. But his chat has broken him with over 300 subs in one stream. I don't know if something like this is allowed, but if you like WoW, he's a really chill dude who's worked his ass off to make stuff like this happen for him and others around him. He's still streaming right now, and I thought you guys might be down to check him out at max chaos.

I might take a bit to learn something past e3.5, but I'd consider a pbp

I was literally just talking about relearning 3.5, since I started with a homebrew version of it. I've only ever DM'd in 5e, but I have a lot of good memories from playing 3.5. My partner recommended maybe picking up Pathfinder, but I don't have any idea how Pathfinder operates. Basically, what I'm saying is I need more D&D in my life

  13. So I'm trying to start freelancing and doing commissions, because I'm tired of working retail. And I figured a good place to start would be making custom monsters, maps, and magic items for D&D games, since I've been doing it for a while. However, since I lost my laptop, I've lost a lot of the images that I could have used for examples on sites like Fiverr. So I was wondering if anyone needed any custom content like that designed for their game, or just had an idea for a custom map, magic item, or monster that they'd like to see drawn up with official looking layout. No charge, obviously, but I would want to be able to use it to promote my commission and freelancing stuff.

  14. I've taken a break from streaming my D&D game because between transferring stores and some personal health stuff that's come up, I've managed to get terribly behind on planning the giant port city my party is about to land in. Thankfully I should have time to get some more planning and organizing done, so we might be picking it back up in a few weeks if everyone's still down to stream. I'm just glad to have the energy to work on stuff again
