  1. WOOT!

Despite CONCACAF trying to CONCACAF the league opened up CCL with two solid showings last night.
Portland got out of Honduras 2-2 and honestly had it not been played on a pitch with roughly 5in of grass they'd have likely won that match 4/5-2.
Atlanta went down a man (Guzan red card) and put in an 18yr old emergency keeper but still WON 1-0 against the best team in Costa Rica right now, in CR.

    So YAY!

  2. So we've been running a pretty damn bad ass Pro Academy in San Antonio for a while now ... and uh, now this is happening:

We've got a kid that's been in the USU15 (Leo Torres)
A kid that was signed by a Belgian 2nd division club (Ethan Bryant but he's back now) and is part of the USU18 set up.
Our starting keeper (Matt Cardone) is top 5 in the league and is an SA native through and through (has even had a look by Orlando).

On top of that we've done pretty well with some developing of younger players we've scouted. Christian Parano couldn't catch on in Argentina but he came here and after a couple of seasons Pacos de Ferreira in Portugal came calling. Also had a kid on the U17's before he transferred (Devin Vega).

My wife actually got me this for our anniversary. I have it on my shelf at work.

On a different note, where do you guys read your comics that are currently running? I don’t actually have access to a comic store so is there a place online that I can purchase current runs as they happen?

If you want floppy copies for yourself: dcbservice dot com is a good option.

I'd like to find a Batman and Superman comic too but I don't think there is a good jumping on point right now

End of the year may be your chance for Batman as December's #85 is his last on it.  The Batman/Catwoman he's doing will be 12 issues

  5. NYCity sells Jack Harrison to ManCity who promptly loans him out to Middlesboro.  Fucking hell.  Really liked the kid and he was one of my favorite players in the league.  One positive though, is that it opens up more minutes for Jonathan Lewis.

Zlatan to LAG actually has something to it this time.

  6. TFC closed out 2017 by winning the "treble" ... great cap to a great build and run for that club.  Fans are more than deserving.

2018 will see LAFC join the fray and already BOB and CO. are taking it to the GALS.  So far the new LA club has signed Carlos Vela and Egyptian INT Omar Gaber.  They selected Raheem Edwards and Jukka Raitala in the Expansion draft and then traded them for Laurent Ciman of MTL.  They are pairing Ciman with Walker Zimmerman in central defense, whom they got from FCD for $$$$.  They also selected Latif Blessing, Marco Urena, and Tyler Miller (sorry SEA fans) in the EXP draft.  They also signed Penerol phenom Diego Rossi.

full list of transactions thus far here

trade tracker here for details on som of the movement

Atlanta has signed one of the top USL GK's from Cincy (Mitch Hildebrandt) and traded a shit ton of money for Darlington Nagbe and Gbenga Arokyo (who is starting caliber DEF).  They're linked to, and all signs point to them signing Ezequiel Barco.

Grelladinho (Mike Grella) will get a shot to come back from his injury as COL has picked him up.

SKC has brought in Yohan Croizet (from KV Mechelen in Belgium)

There are, of course, tons of things swirling ...

On another note, Astonishing X-Men Vol. 4 has been amazing both in writing and in art. It reminds me of the more 'crazy' 90s style X-Men in terms of the story they've started out with, and the characters they have gone with (Fantomex, Gambit, Psylocke, Rogue, Bishop, Angel, Old Man Logan). And it's standalone from all the major runs, so it's easy to jump into.

    Best X-Book since Uncanny X-Force VOL 1  Only X-Book I read.

    2) Carnage (2015) vol 1. "The One That Got Away" - really cool concept for the first few issues of it, then it sort of jumps the shark a little. But the inspiration to commonly known horror movies are pretty up-front-and-center and really feels like an ode to the genre. Another 4 *'s.

    4) Taskmaster (2010) by Fred Van Lente - strong recommend. It's a short mini-series detailing the character's backstory and more about him in the present, and like all good villain stories, it's full of sympathy-evoking tragedy. 5 *'s.

Carnage started out wonderfully as you stated ... highly recommend it.

FVL is so underrated .... did some great stuff with Magnus over at Dynamite as well.  If you can find his stuff, grab it.

  8. So yes, Friedel is confirmed as NE's new manager.

LA has cut ties with Homegrown Players:  Jack McBean, Jaime Villereal, Jose Villereal, Raul Mendiola, and Nathan Smith.  McBean and Jose V are the big ones there ... I'd take 'em in SA in a heartbeat.

ORL has decided not to exercise options on Giles Barnes, Nocerino, Hadji Berry, Dillon Powers, Seb Hines, Josh Suanders, and Conor Donovan.

COL is heavily linked with NZ's Anthony Hudson (US born) for their HC job.

David Ousted will not be with VAN any longer

Robbie Rogers has announced his retirement from soccer at 30yrs old

MTL is apparently speaking with Walter Mazzarri and Francesco Guidolin in their coaching search.

  9. In the wake of Precourt announcing his desire to move the Crew ... they have promptly flipped him the bird and are in the Eastern Conf finals.  Houston goes through POR to make the Western Conf finals on the heels of the Astros winning the WS in the Hurricane trashed city.

    Intriguing storylines ...

These two things are linked, though. Gulati basically defended pay-to-play today. He's very good at making the federation money and at navigating politics at the international level, but he's absolutely a part of the problem. He's not the whole problem, but it's not going to be solved with him there.

as for Arena, the moment he shows interest in coming back to MLS he'll get a job again, as he should, but I do think some of the reasons the US failed in the Hex were reflected in his final season with the Galaxy. I'd like to see how he does with a team like New England or DC United.

Maybe he could replicate his 3 straight MLS Cup app (two titles), USOC Title, and CONCACAF Champ's Cup Title.  That'd be nice and well deserved for the DCU franchise.

Gulati was exactly what US Soccer needed up until about 2007-2010.  Once the sport was relevant, and the league started to take off .... he was no longer relevant.  We need steps forward.

    Lucien Favre for USMNT manager.
