  1. I ended up doing another season at Forest, this being my third time in the Championship with them, I'm getting the hang of it. I'm unbeaten in 36 in the league, lost the Semi- Final of the League Cup to Stoke (after beating Chelsea AND Man Utd to get there) and lost the 4th round of the FA Cup to Aston Villa.

This season Earnshaw and Findley have really brought their goalscoring boots, with 46 goals between them so far. The third top scorer is Kelvin Wilson, who I wish wasn't going to Celtic at the end of the season :(

In January I sold Majewski and Chambers, bringing in Chris Eagles(!), Kristján Örn Sigurðsson, Shane Ferguson and Eloge Enza Yamissi. Without a doubt I've got the strongest squad in the Championship, since I've had to play my second team in important games and still come away with a win.

None of that is very interesting though, since I've done this twice before. I'm going to be very careful in the Summer and improve the squad effectively. I want rid of Bennett, McKenna, Moussi, McCleary and Blackstock on top of Wilson leaving, so I've got a lot to do. Apparently the weakest area of my team is in goal though, so I'll look for someone better. Enyeama has a release clause of 1.2 million, so I might try and get him, although he already turned me down in January.

I'm thinking about turning the second season into a diary too.

  2. I flat out refuse to give anyone the Match Highest Earner clause. I just about managed to get Lukaku for Forest but it took some serious negotiating to get rid of it.

Back on my first Forest game I asked the board to sign Hogan Ephraim for me. I can't remember the figure exactly, but they paid like triple his value for him. I could have signed a good winger for the money they spent, I was livid.

That Newcastle game got boring quickly, so I'm not really sure what to do next.

  3. I really like the look of that Man City shirt. The goalkeeper one lower down on the link is nice too. Does the red and black have any significance for City? I know they've worn a similar kit before, but, you know, it's Man Utd's colours.

I'm not a fan of the Newcastle home top at all, both in pictures and in person. Like all of the Puma kits, it looks cheap enough to be a fake. Unfortunately Newcastle shirts will sell well regardless. I'd love us to get Umbro after the Puma deal runs out, they seem to be making the best looking kits lately.

  4. I completely forgot about Forster, but it seems to me like Harper has had a lot of injuries since he's become our No 1. Krul still seems a little awkward to me too, but I guess that will go the more games he starts. Personally I think a really good goalkeeper could improve us quite a bit, but it would be something of a luxury signing to bring one in with Forster in the mix. And yes, I still miss Given :(

We're notorious for injuries, so I think the squad size is important. Yes, we could live without Smith and Kuqi but I'd rather be safe than sorry. After Smith our cover in center mid is Dan Gosling, who hasn't been fit all season and our bench has looked terrible more times than I'm comfortable with.

Best was on that list more because I wouldn't mind if we got rid of him. He had a good spell earlier this season but he was gash in the Championship, so is it inconsistency or he's just settling in now? He's fine as a back up, though.

  5. I hope Newcastle can keep hold of Enrique. He's been far more important to our season than you'd expect a left back to be. Tiote too, obviously.

I think that we should try and keep as many players as possible, but the players I expect to leave/ wouldn't be sad to see the back of: Campbell, Guthrie, Routledge, Lovenkrands, Smith, Best, Ryan Taylor and Kuqi.

Letting any of those players leave would mean we have to bring in a replacement (with the exception of Taylor if you trust Simpson/ Perch at right back), such is the state of our squad, so Pardew needs to be wise with whatever of the Carroll money he sees. This means not blowing silly money on Charles N'Zogbia.

In terms of who to bring in, I have no idea. I expect us to go back in for N'Zogbia, but with Wigan surviving they'll be able to hold out for better money and we'd need to have all of the Carroll money and then some to be able to pay 12 million plus on one player.

We tried for Seb Larsson in January, so I think we'll try again with him too, we have a better chance because Birmingham have gone down, but I'd expect a lot of competition with him being free.

Also I've yet to find a Newcastle fan that agrees with me but I really think we should try and get a goalkeeper. The injuries have taken their toll on Harper and Krul makes me nervous constantly.

So, if we can keep hold of Enrique and Tiote I think our priority is one or two new strikers since that's the area of our first team that seriously needs addressing. After that, a goalkeeper.

  6. I would have been delighted with 12th at the start of the season, so even though I'm a little disappointed we let the result slip out of our hands today, I'm happy at what we've achieved. To finish 12th after losing the only good striker we had shows what a fantastic season it has been.

I'm delighted Birmingham, along with Bowyer, Carr and Martins have been relegated too.
