  1. Dusted off my PS2 the other day and started a new game in Dragon Quest VIII. The save file I deleted was over 15 hours in, and I remember liking it, but stopping because I couldn't figure out where to go. Hopefully this run will go smoother, because I really do find the art style of the game very charming, and I'm a sucker for classic JRPG combat/storyline.

Besides that, I've been getting back into Oblivion in anticipation for Skyrim. I'm playing as a good character for the first time ever, I don't think I've even stolen or broken into any place illegally with this guy. In fact, I only recently got the Dark Brotherhood prompt that comes up when you kill someone in cold blood (which was bullshit anyway, the guy definitely had it comingshifty.gif). Went to sleep soon after so I could level up, and there's Lucien Lachance hovering over me as he is wont to do. After trying to protest that I was no killer, he told me about the poor old bastard that needed killing, then began to spirit away, but not on my watch: "STOP RIGHT THERE, CRIMINAL SCUM!", I yelled at my TV as I killed him even though he became invisible. Then I took his cool robes and left his body upstairs in the Mage's Quarters at the Arcane University. Yeah, Oblivion is awesome no matter how you play it.

  2. I just signed up to the Marvel Digital Comics thing and despite the fact that it is about a year behind the sheer volume of books is brilliant, I'd definately recommend it as it costs about £30 for a year-long subscription (if you use a discount count).

The entire Ultimate X-Men run is online and I've decided to give it a go and after four issues I'm still undecided. The entire recruitment process is just blitzed through in one issue basically but I'm going to give it time and knowing me I'll probably read through until the very end.

Anyone got any Marvel recomendations from semi-recently? I'm a huge X-Men fan so anything related to that would probably suit me.

I don't read many comics these days, but one series that I absolutely loved was Astonishing X-Men, which Wikipedia says began in 2004. It's apparently a pretty popular series though, so you might have already read it I suppose. Still though, for anyone who hasn't read it, it's written by Joss Whedon, illustrated by John Cassaday (not sure if that means anything to comic buffs). Every story arc is great, the illustrations are very good from what I remember, and Whedon characterizes everyone on the team brilliantly. He even got me to care about Shadowcat, a longtime least-favorite mutant of mine.

  3. I finally beat Mass Effect the other day, and man, what an ending that game has. The word "epic" gets thrown around a lot, but that's really the best way to describe it. They did such a fantastic job of creating an immersive sci-fi universe that's on par with Star Wars and BSG. Played as a Renegade, which was a ton of fun, and my next playthrough will be a Paragon run. Also, apparently I missed a decent chunk of sidequests along the way, as I'm missing a bunch of achievements. Excited to play through it again, and super excited to start ME2.

  4. Just picked this up the other day, loving it so far. Have you guys been to the Helios One plant? And was everyone else as evil as I was in deciding what to do with all that solar power? Unfortunately I had Boone with me at the time and he didn't take too kindly to that particular choice, so we had a showdown on top of the satellite tower. No bleeding hearts in my camp! Now my companions consist of a senile old lady Super Mutant who thinks I'm her grandson, and a cyber-dog I got from the leader of the gang of Elvis impersonators. Yeah, this game's awesome.

  5. http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/708824/Uncharted-Movie-Mark-Wahlberg-Is-Playing-Nathan-Drake.html

Thoughts? I don't own a PS3 so I've only played Uncharted at friends' houses, but it seems like a decent enough game series to make a movie out of. Apparently not much else about the movie has been revealed, other than Wahlberg saying Joe Pesci and Robert De Niro might be in it. I've always thought of Uncharted as the video game version of Indiana Jones, so I'm interested to see what they do with the movie version of the video game version of another movie franchise.

  6. I love Darryl, though, and how efficient he is in terms of reusing his arrows.

Agreed, once he started pulling his arrows out of their eye sockets I realized how awesome a crossbow would be in the zombie apocalypse. The convenience of killing from a distance with none of the noisy hassle a gun gives you, and pretty much infinite ammo if you keep re-using your arrows.

I've been loving this show so far, can't wait til we see how the gang plans to grab that bag Rick left in the street. I agree that a lot of the important dialog has been sub-par, but I feel that most of the main characters have already built decent personalities for themselves, and we're only three episodes in. I've never read the comics, so the story and all of the characters are completely new to me, and it's been great to have a new drama that I make sure to catch every week. I think LOST was the last one I bothered with before this.

  7. Just a quick reply here with a list of 360 games I've yet to finish, as I'm on my way out the door right now. When I get home I'm looking forward to perusing the other lists and seeing if I can't persuade anyone to finish a particular game of theirs.

Oblivion - Love the game, and I've put easily 100+ hours into it. I'm on my second character now, for some reason last year I was forced to make a new XBL handle and as a result had to start over most of my games. I've actually gotten back into it recently, gotten up to about where I left off with my old character. Planning on finishing the main questline sometime soon.

Fallout 3 - Beat the main questline and a good chunk of sidequests, just need to work my way through Broken Steel. Again, love this game.

Assassin's Creed - Borrowed it from a friend ages ago, never really gave it enough of a chance. I want to beat it so I can play the apparently better sequel.

Dragon Age - I'd say I'm about halfway through. I do like this one, but I find it hard to really dedicate the hours that it deserves for some reason.

Mass Effect - Same deal as with DA:O, except I'm right at the end of this one. Looking forward to finishing it so I can get into ME2.

Final Fantasy XIII - I bought this game the first day it was out, can't even remember the last game I did that for. I was fully addicted to it up until I reached Gran Pulse, then for some reason I couldn't bring myself to trudge on. I assume I'll beat it someday - I don't think I've ever beaten a FF game my first playthrough.

Prototype - The idea of this game is awesome, and all the powers you get are very fun. However, the missions are kinda lacking in my opinion, and I'm stuck at about 3/4 of the way through.

Burnout Paradise - I have no idea how far I actually am into this game. It's great fun to throw on every once in a while, but as with most racing games, I've never really sat down and put my mind to playing through it. Maybe someday.

  8. Lets chop cats! Lets chop cats! Yeah, it is from a few seasons ago, but I woke up with it stuck in my head, and its fucking hilarious.

Hahaha, classic. One of the best parts about that scene is that while Charlie is screaming "Let's chop cats," you can see Mac start to giggle before he manages to get his line out.

Anyone been watching the new episodes? Dennis Gets Divorced has been my favorite of the two, although they've both been good and I'm ecstatic to see that they haven't lost a step 6 seasons in. Looking forward to the boat episode tonight.

  9. This wouldn't happen with Dwarf Fortress, no sir.

<_< You can even get your Bender statue to breathe fire in Dwarf Fortress. Well, spew magma at least.

I've been hearing a lot of raving about Dwarf Fortress, and the fact that it's free makes me very interested in giving it a whirl. The only thing is, from what I can gather the learning curve is incredibly steep, and the graphics look like gibberish to me. Is there a good tutorial anywhere out there you can recommend? Or is it easier to get into than it seems by any chance?

...Why doesn't the tree fall down when you harvest it? >_>

Yeah, the physics aren't much to write home about. I think it has to do with being able to build bridges and things like that, as well as being able to mine above you without worrying about cave-ins everywhere you go. As far as I know, the only types of blocks that fall when you remove something underneath them are sand and gravel, although that might change any week now as the game is constantly getting updated.

  10. Yep, Minecraft is one of the most addicting games I've played in a long time. Such a simple concept, but it's executed so well and the amount of things to do/see/build is incredible. There's also a very friendly and creative fanbase out there that likes to post screencaps and videos of things they've been doing in their respective worlds, and since everything is randomized, no two worlds are the same so it's always cool to check out what other people have been up to.

I think they've been having problems with their website/servers, so that might have something to do with your account not being approved yet. To tide you over, here's a pretty sweet statue of Bender someone on Reddit made and posted.
