  1. Ben Folds uses his piano on just about everything he's done. Whatever & Ever Amen has some good stuff on it. Off of Rockin' the Suburbs, I seem to repeat "The Ascent of Stan" a lot.

There's definitely some other good stuff, but I'm too tired to think of 'em now (Scott Joplin songs are the only piano-songs I can think of now). I'll check in later if I think of any more.

  2. Definitely add some Nick Drake to your collection. He made some cool music in the late 60s/early 70s. Check out "Day is Done" off of Five Leaves Left or "Pink Moon" off of... well, Pink Moon.

For some more recent music, you might wanna check out Iron & Wine. They do a pretty cool acoustic version of The Postal Service's "Such Great Heights" on the Garden State OST.

Also, Elliot Smith has made some great music. If you've seen Good Will Hunting, you might recognize "Miss Misery" - it was nominated for an Academy Award, methinks. ...and I think just about everything off of X/O is really good.

And even though you don't like country, have you checked out Johnny Cash's American Recordings series of CDs? I don't like country, but I really dug that collection. Check out any of the covers he's done (NIN's "Hurt", Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus", Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down", Soundgarden's "Rusty Cage", Will Oldham's "I See a Darkness")... they're all fantastic.

  3. I went to the late-showing last night and really enjoyed it. When I looked at the cast listing and saw all of those wrestlers and football players in there, I wasn't expecting 'em all to do so well - but they all did pretty good.

  4. For all of you who are planning on watchin' just for the NIN performance...

According to MTV.com, Nine Inch Nails won't be performing at the show. Just a heads-up.

Nine Inch Nails have dropped out of the 2005 MTV Movie Awards following a dispute over their plan to incorporate an image of George W. Bush into their performance of the song "The Hand That Feeds." Stepping in to fill the void are the Foo Fighters.

The announcement was made Thursday via a statement posted by Nails frontman Trent Reznor on NIN.com.

"Nine Inch Nails will not be performing at the MTV Movie Awards as previously announced. We were set to perform 'The Hand That Feeds' with an unmolested, straightforward image of George W. Bush as the backdrop," Reznor wrote. "Apparently, the image of our president is as offensive to MTV as it is to me. See you on tour this fall when we return to play in America."

MTV announced that the Foo Fighters would be taking NIN's spot on the show late Friday afternoon (May 27). Earlier in the day, in a brief statement, the channel expressed disappointment in Nine Inch Nails' decision to drop out of the broadcast.

"While we respect Nine Inch Nails' point of view, we were uncomfortable with their performance being built around a partisan political statement. When we discussed our discomfort with the band, their choice was to unfortunately pull out of the Movie Awards."

Nine Inch Nails' label, Interscope Records, had no comment on the matter.
