Caught up on so much TV today. Full Frontal with Samantha Bee is still funny as fuck, I'm glad UnREAL is back in a big way (although the way this season looks to be heading, I might regret wanting a second season), and Angie Tribeca is even more weird and even more amazing this season.

Oh, and I watched the first two episodes of Preacher, really liked them both. Looks to be a damn well made show so far.

I'm liking the two episodes of UnREAL so far. It feels quite unique and that scene with Rachel telling Madison what to do was brutal!

Plus it has a great tagine that marketing must hate not being able to use: "money, dick, power."

Oh man, I would absolutely adore that. It couldn't be the same universe since they already share characters, but Tom Welling making an appearance would be great. If they could get Michael Rosenbaum and Justin Hartley in for a cameo too I would lose it.

Whilst it'll good to *finally* see Welling in the goddamn suit (I have complex issues with the Smallville finale) I'd go without seeing him if it meant getting Rosenbaum as Lex.

I like The Killers, but his solo albums are much more my thing. I absolutely adored his first album, and whilst the second wasn't quite as good, it still has some tremendous tracks. Hopefully The Killers put out something a little more "Sam's Town" and a lot less "Battleborn".

I constantly disagree with myself over which album I prefer: Hot Fuss or Sam's Town. I think it depends what mood I'm in. I'm currently in a "Sam's Town is my favourite album of all time" mood.

Bizarrely I've never really got on with his solo stuff.

I actually don't think Johnny Foreigner in the studio reflects how stonking they are live. I saw them at Tramlines a few years ago and my face was impressively melted off by the singer's guitar skills. Really must see them again.

It's pretty hypnotic at times when he goes off on the math-like tapping for a couple of minutes. Quite possibly to give Kelly (the bassist) a chance to get her voice back.

Also, I am sure @Xand will agree, more people should listen to Muncie Girls, great band out of Exeter.

I saw them supporting Tellison earlier this year, and in a few weeks they'll be supporting Beach Slang. Then they'll be at 2000 Trees and for some reason I don't feel as if I'm seeing them enough this year.

  6. Wow, every time I've seen LC! the venue's been pretty packed out (that Brum show was so packed and rammed sweat was dripping from the roof) but I think it's safe to say they've got a bigger cult following over here.

  7. I think they've been a few times. I'm sure Waited Before It Was Light was recorded in California (or it may have been Grace). I know they toured the US with Los Campesinos! (my favourite band in the history of anything ever) and was so annoyed that one of those dates landed on my birthday.

They did end up supporting them in my favourite venue in Birmingham a couple of years later. I've lost my train of thought -- oh yes, they've been to America quite a few times.

  8. I love Johnny Foreigner - looking forward to their new album. I know a couple of people who've taken part in gang backing vocals for a song or two and they've been telling me it's some of their better stuff. They played one or two new songs when I saw them a few weeks ago and they sound great.

In gig news - I have Diet Cig next week, and then Joanna Gruesome the week after!

The music industry invested a lot of money in acts like Blazin' Squad but it was piracy that ruined everything...

I bet you Blazin Squad downloaded East 1999 off KazaA.

Who needs a four-some when you can have a sixteen-some... The gang molestation of music, if you will...

NOOOOOOOO! I'd blocked that out of my memory! How could you! :(:(

The Bone Thugs original is still one of my favourite songs ever and this is just...ugh. UGH.

Tempted to add to my busy gig schedule by going to the Friday of 2000Trees in July. All the bands they've announced that I like are playing the Friday, so there's no point in going for the whole weekend.

I've been to 2000 Trees the past five years; got my ticket for the sixth. It's a generally great time even if the past few years the bands have gotten slightly heavier and away from the folkier aspects from their start. Made a whole bunch of friends there as well.

  12. Love me some of that there live music, quite possibly addicted.

Saw Emmy the Great for the first time on Saturday and really, really enjoyed it. Very funny and the songs are much better live. Got Johnny Foreigner tomorrow and then the next week I have Tellison and Muncie Girls! huzzah!

  13. I only really listened to Sgt. Pepper at the start of this year to discover that I'd heard all the tracks elsewhere. Great album, ahead of it's time and my top three would be: Getter Better, Little Help From My Friends and The Benefit of Mr. Kite.

And the only Oasis albums I can stand are Definitely Maybe and What's The Story (Morning Glory). And I've always been a fan of the latter...
