  1. Looking for a banner with dimensions around 300x150 or so. Promotion is Viral Wrestling Epidemic, so I'd like the abbreviation, and the word fire on the banner. Miscellaneous ideas for images in the banner:

    • Fire in eye
    • dragon's breath of fire
    • burning man
    • fire golem
    • Vince McMahon
    • Corporate Kane
    • Sami Zayn
    • Colt Cabana
    • Lashley
    • Rusev
    • Kota Ibushi
    • Kevin Owens
  2. I think where they went wrong with Black Bolt is 1) not getting an actor emotive enough in his facial expressions, and 2) not directing around him as though he was a dog. In TV and film we've mastered the art of making a non-speaking animal act in such a way to evoke some sort of emotion from us. This dude looks like he's just a robot and we're waiting for him to talk. Hearing him talk should be like hearing a fucking dog talk, it means something big!

And speaking of dogs, stoked to see Lockjaw, who they did understand how to direct around

  3. I run a Marvel Unlimited Book Club on reddit where we have a new reading assignment every week. https://www.reddit.com/r/MUBookClub/

My personal favorites over the past year running it:

    • X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills by Chris Claremont
    • Moon Knight (2014) by Warren Ellis (#1-6 only, then someone else takes over and it's just okay)
    • Ultimate Spider-Man (2000) by Brian Michael Bendis
    • Deadpool (2012) by Gerry Duggan and Brian Pohsen
    • Thor: God of Thunder (2012) by Jason Aaron
    • Inhumans (1998) by Paul Jenkins
    • Black Panther (1998) by Christopher Priest
    • Runaways (2003) by Brian K. Vaughan
    • Vision (2015) by Tom King
    • Superior Foes of Spider-Man (2013) by Nick Spencer
    • Astonishing X-Men (2004) by Joss Whedon
    • Silver Surfer: Requium (2007) by J. Michael Straczynski
    • Nextwave: Agents of HATE (2006) by Warren Ellis
    • Invincible Iron Man (2008) by Matt Fraction

  4. Could I request a signature for Viral Wrestling Epidemic? I don't have any color schemes in mind. Can't even settle on images, but things that do come to mind:

    - Hazard symbol
    - Wall of TV screens
    - Quarantine or danger signs
    - Owned by Max Landis
    - Top stars are Kane (unmasked, besuited, professional), Kevin Owens, Scott Steiner, Lashley, Rusev, and Sami Zayn

So whatever you gain from that and can work with. Obviously it'd be a mess to try and cram everything into one image

  6. Finished the series last night. I really enjoyed it and all of the characters except for Joy. Ward actually became one of my favorites. Following all of the Rand goings-on was like watching American Psycho meets West Wing. Season ending could have been delivered a little better I thought. All the pieces were there, and I could see what they were trying to do, but it felt a bit rushed and vague.

The show definitely suffers from the trope of diminishing villain returns. From their introduction in Daredevil onwards, The Hand is the OHSHIT villain who leaves a pile of bodies in their path, and it's believable they could kill Daredevil too. By the time the Netflix Marvel Universe gets to Iron Fist, The Hand don't even bother with ninja outfits and they just get beat up left, right, and center. Only one who actually is in real danger of death is Colleen. And I know The Foot Clan of TMNT is based off The Hand, but so much of the dialogue at the compound reminded me of TMNT 2's Foot Clan infiltration dialogue. Everything about being part of a family, etc. Which granted, all cults are based on that, but with The Hand it really felt like no one was worth their weight in salt. Just a bunch of kids who graduated from kata class. Danny and Davos tear through them like they're some yellow belts.

  7. We seem to generate enough discussion for each of the Defender series to warrant it's own thread. While this was panned by critics before it's release, I'm 2 episodes in and enjoying it. So far what I like, without spoilers, is it really feels like it's in the same city as the rest of the characters. An interesting detail is the ratio of day-scenes to night-scenes in this series compared to the other Defenders. Reviews be damned, I'm enjoying it. I woke up early this morning to put it back on, but there are definitely flaws.

    Episode 2

I get that you were 10 years old when you were separated from the modern world, Danny, but you were on the cusp of a simple, doctor-signed-off-on, "I am sane" release and you could not STFU? Maybe emotional growth gets stunted when you go into another dimension for 15 years, but you would think you'd learn common fucking sense in-between buddah quotes! Gawd! Just every line out of his mouth made me Apu!

I'm just under half way throug The Haunting Of Hill House and I'm not sure how I feel so far. It was on my list for quite a while due to it being on several lists for influential and good horror novels but I don't think it's going to end up being what I was looking for. Everything was fine at the beginning when it followed a single character, but now that the whole cast of characters is together and... no one talks like a person, it's a little bit grating but has since started to calm down a little bit.

I'm still open to something happening that changes my perception - and I'm intimidated to get to my next book as it will be the longest I have ever read, but I think I'm going to power through it tonight regardless.

I preferred Hell House by Richard Matheson as far as haunted house novels go

  9. I watched the first episode and definitely struggled with it. The tone was certainly a hurdle for me, as it just kept getting increasingly dark and no longer felt like a show aimed at kids like I expected. I never saw the film or read the books, so I don't know if I'm missing the benefit of nostalgia.

Tone aside, I really didn't like it for being so true to it's title.

Olaf tortures the kids from start to finish until he's slapping them around. And there's no comeuppance. No even tease of comeuppance. The parents scene at the very end didn't even provide me any hope. I'm not expecting any stories to be resolved in one episode, but there wasn't even any character growth, arc, anything. It didn't feel like an episode, it felt like the first part to a very, very, very long movie. I don't have the resolve to watch kids get tortured for 4+ hours before they start putting their brilliance to work to start at least Dennis The Menacing Olaf.

Outside of the story, I sympathized with the girl playing Violet. I hope she knew ahead of time how much she'd have to carry that baby, who is adorable, but a chubby little thing. Not bodyshaming it, but Violet's a whispy girl. That's got to be taxing
