  1. Yeah, but the pre-Christmas line-up is amazing, perhaps even better than it normally is. Might be better for them to delay until next year, especially if the game actually needs the time. Ghostbusters is still in limbo, remember, and there are plenty of release dates they can choose without competing with big games.

I'm really excited for this. It's strange, I love games like System Shock 2 and Condemned yet I really dislike horror films.

i have to say, im not really unnerved by games and such but the condemned is one of the few games that really messed with my head. it didnt help that i had the lights off and it was dark though.

the main freak out points where towards the end in the run down house and then outside afterwards. that was pretty freaky.

The only other game that's atmosphere freaked me out was the baby crying part in Max Payne. Sent chills down my spine man

  2. I've been meaning to pick up Frailty since seeing it in the Wal-Mart bargain bin a while back and hearing it was actually good, but now that I want it, it's not there anymore. >_<

By the way, even though it's not horror though I mentioned wanting to see it earlier in this thread, I FINALLY picked up Visitor Q. Holy crap is that movie fucked up. It was probably as uncomfortable to sit through as the first time I saw Ichi The Killer, though not as much as Cannibal Holocaust, meaning I have now found a third movie that made me feel like less of a human being while watching it.

That film absolutely stunned me in it's cringe worthy value. I mean from the very opening scene, I was like WTF WTF! And then from then, it just got worse......what was worse is that the guy who owned that movie was like bragging about how good a movie it was....i never saw him in the same light after that

  3. If this EVER comes out it could be great, but I think the team is really shooting itself in the foot by pushing it back so much. I know when I first found out about the game I was stoked, but now I really don't care because it's been pushed back too much, and now other games are on my mind.

Exactly and with things like The Ghostbusters game coming next year as well as the X-Box 360 version of Return to Castle Wolfenstein PLUS things like Gears of War 2 on it's way and Fifa 09, its going to have to be pretty impressive.

Then there are things like Asassain's creed 2 coming out which i personally am really excited about

  4. Regarding the gameplay

The dark-forces (enemies) coming to 'take care of' Alan Wake are vulnerable to light. So the most useful weapon of all is actually the flashlight. You will be able to place booby traps which will illuminate when executed, etc. Light will weaken or hurt Wake's enemies, and creatively taking advantage of any and all light sources within Alan Wake's grim world ought to be one of the interesting aspects of play.

Like Max Payne before it, the title Alan Wake has a double meaning. Combining the main character's first initial with his last name forms "A.Wake," or "Awake".

Remedy Entertainment also promised a free-roam 3-dimensional city, similar to the Grand Theft Auto series.

"The basic idea with the free-roaming world is that we give the player goals, and then the player can go about achieving those goals in the way he chooses. Alan Wake is more tightly character-driven and story-oriented. Meaning that the player’s goals and missions are closely focused around Alan Wake and his story. Also, the setting, the tone and the game being an action thriller all set it clearly apart from the GTA games." – Sam Lake

"Intense cinematic action is something that we love to do, and Alan Wake features tense combat gameplay as well, but all things considered the game has a lot more emphasis on adventure and exploration than what Max Payne did. Driving is an integral part of the game" - Petri Järvilehto.

There will be no multiplayer in this game. "We'd much rather give the players a great single-player game, than a mediocre single and multiplayer game." -Petri Järvilehto.

As I really enjoyed both Max Payne and Love GTA, im all for the whole free roaming thing. Im hoping that the game will be a decent length but because its a thriller with a single angle, it obviously wont be to the same length of something like GTA but as they're focusing a lot of their energy on the story as opposed to multiplayer aspects too, then id hope that it would be a decent length and lacking in glitches, especially the amount of time on it.

Plus, generally, im a fan of atmospheric games - The condemned had an awesome atmosphere to it for example.

  5. Last I heard, it got bumped back to February 09 at the earliest. IGN has its released date listed as "TBA 2009," there's no way it's seeing the light of day this year.

FFS I was considering pre-ordering it on some of the game websites over here in the UK. Play.com announce it for November Still. I remember back in March I think when it was like being advertised as two weeks after the release of Lost the video game and I waited until the week before to pre-order but as soon as that week hit, boom it was october, then november.....now February. Hasn't it been in expected for like 2 years now?

  6. Hey, so I was wondering how much knows about Alan Wake. I've been waiting for this game to come out for almost a year now and it's something that even after all this time has still been grabbing my attention. I dont know how much you guys know about it so I will share what I know.

    The Story:

Alan Wake is a bestselling horror writer. Early on in his career, his fiancée Alice was his muse. Just prior to meeting her, he had started to have strange dreams which he used as material for his first book. The book was a big success, a dream come true. But then Wake’s fiancée vanished without a trace. Wake was devastated. He couldn't write anymore, his dreams stopped and he began to suffer from insomnia. At the beginning of the game, Wake travels to a sleep clinic to seek treatment for his condition. The secluded clinic is located near the small town of Bright Falls, Washington, far away from the stressful urban lifestyle. Receiving treatment at the clinic, Wake is able to sleep again. At the clinic, he meets a mysterious woman who is the very image of his missing fiancée, uncannily so. At once, his dreams return, this time as terrible nightmares. Wake begins to write again: a new book based on those nightmares. But something is horribly, horribly wrong. Impossibly, the town of Bright Falls starts to change to something awful that bears a close resemblance to Wake’s new book. Wake ends up fighting for his life with a gun and a flashlight in his hands, trying to understand what’s happening.

Its supposed to be a free roam city that is similar in essence to that of GTA

    Trailer:

I know it's due for release on Due for release on 28/11/2008 on X-Box 360 and I presume that this is the same release date as PC. As far as I know, it's not available on PS3 as it's made by Microsoft.

From all the trailers i've seen it looks great and resembles something of a Stephen King book which I am a huge fan. I really can't wait for this game to come out but with all the delays, im still sceptical of it's release.

Anywho if you know anything about the game, would be awesome to share it.

  7. I second the Frailty love. Tremendous movie. Paxton was also awesome as Coconut Pete in horror parody Club Dread.

And the F13 DVD will be worth it if you're a fan. Last I heard it was to be an uncut version of the film, which is always nice to see. I made a bit of a semantic error there, though: the Q&A was filmed for the upcoming documentary about the first film. I'm not totally sure if that will be released on its own like the great Halloween docu that came out a while back or if it's related to the upcoming DVD of the film. Either way, pick up whatever it's on. <_<

I got a signed copy of the 1990 remake of Night of the Living Dead from Bill Moseley at the convention, too. It was an impulse purchase at best. I've always wanted to see it but never have, and Bill Moseley is quite a fucking salesman. He sold out of Polish copies of The Devil's Rejects, actually. Anybody got any thoughts on NotLD '90? I'll probably check it out later tonight.

To be quite honest with you, if I had seen the remake before I saw the original, I may have been more gripped by it. But as I saw the original Romero movie first, when I saw the remake, it was just more of the same so it didnt really make that much of an impression on me. The general premise of being locked up in a house with zombies attacking you in the middle of nowhere is great but it's too much of the same really the remake - especially considering it was after day of the dead had been made (i think thats correct). So while i'd say its decent, it certainly didnt impress me as much as the remake of Dawn of the Dead did but it's certainly not awful. Im actually looking forward to seeing the remake of Land of the Dead actually......

  8. if 54 seconds was how long the match was, id hate to see how short the highlights were......could there even be a highlights show......

Apparently after the match his only comments were "so........even the best fighters lose sometime....."

On the bright side, Ricky Hatton wont feel so crappy about losing to Floyd Mayweather now....at least he lasted a decent amount of time.

  9. I'd love to see some stand up with Frankie Boyle - a whole hour of him making jokes would probably kill me.

I'm sure if you'd never seen Mock The Week before, Frankie's standup would be hilarious. I went to one earlier in the year: Not. A. Single. New. Joke. (N)

That's a real disappointment. Then again it depends on how good the joke is but i wouldnt want to spend x amount of pounds to listen to the same jokes again. Cheers for the heads up on that.

A friend of mine went to see Russell Howard live and she said he was awesome live.....then again, it might be cos she fancies him :shifty:

  10. Kofi IS in - he's been revealed in the Smackdown countdown or whatever it's called over on IGN. They're revealing the roster piece by piece over there.

So I already know then who I am playing as on my first career mode.......i think last time around.

You'll be able to play him in the story mode right? although he's not really on the mic that much?

Wrong. You'll only be able to play six different stories. Punk, Jericho, HHH, Undertaker, Cena, Batista/Mysterio.

So no go on Kofi in storymode. Unless this 'mystery mode' that has yet to be revealed is some kind of story mode for other characters.

Thats really harsh. I mean, id play as Punk Jericho and HHH but i couldnt see me playing as Cena or Mysterio, nothing against those two, they're just not to my taste. It seems that this game yo yos so much though. For example, Smackdown 2 was great, then when the PS2 came out, the first Smackdown for that was poor, then they got better peaking with HCTP which I thought was a great game. Then they've kind of been so so for me but I have to say, i did enjoy the last one more than I did (i think part of the enjoyment may have been that i got it so cheap but i still enjoyed it). It was also the first time that I played the General Manager Mode properly and also managed to complete that. At the time, I had CM Punk as Champion and thought....yeah thats cool.........now when he came champion, i thought.....yeah not so cool.

I really hope they allow you more scope with other characters. Id rather them had different stories for a load of different characters with a smaller roster than a massive roster but the ability to do nothing with them bar singles competitions. At the very least, there must be some option to allow you to use your CAWs. May wait for this to come down in price!

  11. I just ordered Near Dark off Amazon to add to my 80's horror collection, anyone seen it?

I didn't blow my load over it like most people have seen it, calling it a horror classic and all. But I did like it. It's not really scary, it's more of a gory drama about the lives of a drifting band of vampires and their struggles to stay out of the daylight and away from the police, despite their constant bloodthirst.

Yeah but crazy homicidal Bill Paxton is worth the hour and a half.

Speaking of Paxton, I think one of the best movies i've seen him in in recent times was Frailty. I think it may have been his directional debut, im not sure but it was a really good film.

Basically, The plot focuses on the strange relationship two young boys have with their father (Paxton) who believes that he has been commanded by God to kill demons, and the consequences this belief has after the boys have grown up.

Worth a watch if you haven't seen it.

As for other good horror movies that i've seen recently, check out Them (Ils) if you're not seen it already. Its a French horror movie based in Romania and it's kinda similar to the Strangers. Well worth a watch!

  12. Kofi IS in - he's been revealed in the Smackdown countdown or whatever it's called over on IGN. They're revealing the roster piece by piece over there.

  13. to be honest, im glad that you've just got Rouke doing it. I remember when Nicholas Cage was slated for the role and with all the greatest respect in the world for Nicholas Cage, the last decent movie I saw him in was 8mm. It would have been horrible if he was in this movie.

Ernest the Cat Miller also being in it as the the main heel called the Ayetollah should be interesting. I also understand the likes of Necro Butcher are also going to be in it. Would be amazing if anyone got oscars for it though.

  14. I liked the Sarah Palin jokes generally to be fair.

"Im like a pitbull im tenacious"

    keeping analogies short lol.....

im like a pitbull im tenacious...

im like a pitbull i wont let go....if you want me to let go you'll have to put your finger up my arse.

dont leave me alone with a toddler, i'll kill it...

    Noooooo Palin Nooooooo!

  15. Lucy Porter does a funny thing to me as well. :)

I knew I couldn't be the only one. Funny women are sexy (as long as they dont look like the back end of a bus :shifty: )

Apparently she's worked with Andy Parsons before but I think it's the first season she's been on Mock the Week

Speaking of which, did any of you see Dara O' Briain's stand up gig in London that was on BBC 2 on Saturday? Funny stuff indeed!

Already had it on DVD. Most excellent.

He should have another DVD coming out before too long, because I went to see the show being taped at the Apollo in May.

(and Lucy Porter does something for me in a weird way)

    (Y)

I cant seem to get enough stand up comedy these days. I'm probably just going to ask for/buy myself as much of it as i can on dvd for christmas! I'd love to see some stand up with Frankie Boyle - a whole hour of him making jokes would probably kill me.

  16. Man I cant get enough of this show. I've even resorted to watching it on Dave if it's on to watch the re-runs. All the guys are funny (and Lucy Porter does something for me in a weird way) but lol man Frankie Boyle week after week cracks me up.

The Canadian guy last week and his stand up segment when he was talking about his father - "i was in the park wondering why a frisbee got bigger the closer it got -> then it hit me"...funny stuff.

Speaking of which, did any of you see Dara O' Briain's stand up gig in London that was on BBC 2 on Saturday? Funny stuff indeed!

  17. I saw a bunch of movies yesterday actually proving once again that I have no life. So, where to begin.

    A Perfect Stranger

(Halle Berry, Bruce Willis, Giovanni Ribisi)

8.0/10 - Really decent thriller of a movie - what was more amusing as it involved chatting to people online. Good twists and Halle Berry is gorgeous so well worth a watch

    Mad City

    (John Travolta, Dustin Hoffman)

7/10 - an old movie but nevertheless one i've never seen before. Good movie all together that really shows the fickle side of people (especially the Media). Good movie in the end but it took a while to get going and so lost marks

    Isolation

    (Irish Horror Movie)

6.5/10 - to be fair, it was an amusing watch. A Irish farmer sells a cow to undergo genetic testing while it's pregnant and it gives birth to this crazy violent calf that is pregnant at birth. But what's she's carrying is much worse! A decent amount of suspense and the acting wasn't all together that bad. The creatures were standard cheesy horror. Well worth a watch and a laugh if you're bored

    War

    (Jet Li and Jason Statham)

5.5/10 - well made film with a decent twist to the end which to be fair, made me almost give this a 6. Found it hard to keep my concentration in the movie despite devon aoki being in it. Jet Li was pretty awesome but I still cant get over Jason Statham's american accent. On a different day, probably would have scored higher but not bad.

    School For Scoundrels - 6/10

Normally I enjoy movies that feature Billy Bob Thornton in asshole-ish roles, but this one fell flat. Plus, how does Sarah Silverman keep getting work? Her "bitchy girlfriend and/or love interest's cock-blocking friend" schtick is beyond lame.

Really? I didn't think this movie was that bad, in fact i'd probably have given it a 7.5/10 - Billy Bob was standard self and i though the story was quite amusing. Then again, i may have just liked the movie because of the australia chick that was blatently awesome.

  18. Lol what was the name of the episode where Sheldon and Leonard competed against each other in that physics quiz lol..

The Russian guy: In Russia, i am atomic physicist, in America, I am janitor

and the Wolowitz celebration at the end was absolutely hillarious

i cant wait till the second season in the UK

  19. I actually have to agree, I thought Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego was cool (Anyone remember the video game that was out for the PC) and so was Red Dwarf. That was pretty classic.

Count Duckula and Transformers should also get some mention :|

  20. Allo Allo

Even though it's quite old, whenever i see it, it still has it's charm. The whole idea of a chubby french womanising bloke in the time of the resistance who has a crazy mother in law, i mean, how can you not like it?

    Fawlty Towers

Absolutely genius show - love John Cleese he just has a classy wit and the cast is great with some many bit characters in it that also adds to its charm such as the Major. "Evening Fawlty". Manuel is an absolute legend. My two favorite episodes would have to be "Basil the Rat" where Manuel gets a "Siberian Hamster" that is actually, well you know. and stems off such lines as "YOU PUT BASIL IN THE RATATOUILLE". If you've never seen it, it's a must watch.

    Thin Blue Line

I'm not a massive Ben Elton fan but Rowan Atkinson was pretty class in this. Well if you get past your head that one of the characters is the campest man alive yet he's pretending to be straight. It's not laugh out loud funny but it's easy going and pretty amusing

    Father Ted

This is an all time classic. With such classic episodes as the Eurovision song contest with "My lovely horse" and other classic episodes where they have all the rabbits and Father Jack spins off the line "RATS! HAIRY JAPANESE BASTARDS!". Brilliant cast in this with so many little gems in the episodes. Totally up there.

    Only Fools and Horses

Don't really need to say much about this as you all know it. Absolute classic. I did like the Grandad episodes but i think the show stepped up a gear when Uncle Albert came into it. Such a great cast and some classic lines. Makes the green green grass of home which is on today look like crap on a stick imo!

anywho, looking forward to seeing what you else like

  21. I'd say Scarface followed by Hitch

Because after some serious Al Pacino swearing, you need a bit of Will Smith Lovin'

That and umm, Hitch isn't that bad a film :shifty:

Lost Boys followed by 30 Days of Night would be good too......nothing like a double bill of vampire movies

  22. A slag? Whats your basis on that?

    The fake tan ...

Okay, maybe slag was too strong a word, but i needed a noun. I still think she was disappointing though. Sure, she is good looking, but with the nose and the Cheshire Cat mouth, she is not what Rex made her out to be (that she was perfect).

she's no maysoon that's for sure :crying:

Luke's interview was standard Luke though. Still, when he talks about Rebecca, you know he isnt as intelligent as he tries to make out. He kinda reminds me of the guy from Road Trip who sleeps with the big girl in that college house and then comes out the next saying "i had sex last night......with a girl"

Edit: Never make a mockery of someone's intelligence while making a bunch of typos in your mockery...never works out well for you...
