How do I keep somewhat good quality?

Ok I have noticed when I put a pic for my sig here the quality goes down. Now I am not sure why it does this probably because of the format. For me they always go somewhat blurry. So how do you people keep your graphics good quality when putting them in your sigs. Any tips would be helpful.

.png's usually do it for me.

When saving in PS or PSP change the settings to give a higher quality. Yes, the file size will be a bit bigger but you get a decent quality picture. (Talking about .JPGs here)
