Rate/Hate a tree?

I got bored, so I decided that I would make/edit (whichever way you want to look at it) a graphic. I realised that I've pretty much been only doing wrestler related graphics, and I decided to do something different. Here's what I came up with.

Rate/Hate/Comment. I really want to improve, and the holidays seem like the perfect time, so thanks to anyone that is willing to help.

I don't see what you've done other than add one lighting effect and some poor text.

I did not use lighting at all thankyou. Although I understand that I didn't do much. As I said, I'm not good, but I do want to get better. Any pointers?

Lighting wasn't the word I was looking for, but finding the word I WAS requires effort that I can't be bothered to put in. Work on your text, play around with it, make it look cool. Effects and shiz. Get to know your program and what it is capable of the best you can.

I added some lighting, a filter or two, blending etc and got this:

The first looks very plain but IMO is bvetter than the second one as the tree now looks like one big blur
