The OFFICIAL Movies on Cable Topic

ROC

Recommended Posts

Well, this is a topic devoted to suggestions for movies that are being shown tonight on TV. Here's the suggestions:

Teen Movie Fans:

Sixteen Candles (AMC, 7:00-9:00 PM CST, reshown 12:10 AM-2:05 CST)

Ahh, yes. Those 80s John Hughes movies have proven to be teen movie classics. If you aren't watching primetime TV tonight or just love the John Hughes movies, this would be a great watch.

Action Fans:

Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle (HBO, 8:00 PM-10:00 PM CST)

Well, action fans, this is literally the only thing on tonight so either watch this or dust off those old tapes of Die Hard and wait till Wednesday. Or watch The Amazing Race.

Comedy Fans:

The Nutty Professor (USA, 8:00-10:00 PM CST)

Again, if you are that bored at network TV, there isn't very much hope for you. This movie is pretty funny, but chances are, you've seen this.

Sports Film Fans:

Bull Durham (Showtime, 6:00-8:00 PM CST)

The first of Costner's two acclaimed baseball movies. Baseball fans are watching this definitely.

Film Buffs:

Capturing The Friedmans (HBO, 11:00 PM-12:50 AM CST)

How's an Oscar-nominated documentary sound for you?

*Silence*

Well, umm, watch a DVD or something.

Moviecrap Lovers:

Grind (Cinemax, 9:00-10:45 PM CST)

Either watch this for its stupidity or for the fact that The OC's Adam Brody is in it.

Bottom Line: Most of tonight's movies aren't too good but chances are, you're watching Big Brother, Last Comic Standing, or Amazing Race anyway.

Any comments about this? Suggestions on how to add to this? Criticisms are also allowed.

Wednesday Night Suggestions

Lots of good stuff on tonight, let's check 'em all out.

Action Fans:

Predator (FX, 7:00-9:30 PM, reshown 10:30 PM-1:00 AM)

Ahh, yes. A Schwartzenegger action classic. Certainly something good for action fans tonight.

Crime Fans:

Narc (Showtime, 8:00-10:00 PM)

Ray Liotta and Jason Patric star in what looks like another great crime flick. Watch it and see. If not, watch The Score (TNT, 8:00-10:30 PM, reshown 10:30 PM-1:00 AM).

Sports Film Fans:

The Natural (ESPN Classic, 8:00-11:00 PM)

Yes, for the fourth time in the past six days, this flick has been shown, but if you haven't watched it yet, definitely flip on ESPN Classic for this baseball classic.

Comedy Fans:

Coming To America (ABC Family, 7:00-9:30 PM)

Well, this flick will be heavily edited but it's the only real recommendable comedy tonight.

Film Buffs:

The Shape of Things (HBO, 12:15-1:55 AM)

It is a late time, but this is one of the better indy films out there. The cast in this includes Anchorman's Paul Rudd and The Mummy's Rachel Weisz.

Moviecrap Fans:

Alex & Emma (Cinemax, 9:00-10:45 PM)

It's sad when directors fall from their normal high-quality work and produce something crappy but sadly, this looks like a good case.

Bottom Line: Tonight is a better night for films so tonight will be a good night for watching.

Thursday Night Suggestions

As always, Thursday night delivers the goods. Let's see what's coming on tonight.

NOTE: All times Central.

Action Fans:

Terminator 2: Judgment Day (SciFi, 8:00-11:00 PM)

A great action sequel that proved just as good as the first. The action effects still hold up, 13 years after its original release.

Lethal Weapon (Cinemax, 7:00-9:00 PM)

For those who like their buddy comedies with a bit more drama, this is the way to go tonight.

Goldeneye (Showtime, 6:30-8:30 PM)

In my opinion, this is the best Brosnan Bond film. Certainly one I'll be watching.

Phone Booth (HBO, 10:50-12:20 PM)

If you're action fix is still not filled, stay up and watch the great thriller. If you haven't forgiven Joel Schumacher for Batman and Robin, watch this film and see if you have the same opinion about him afterwards.

Comedy Fans:

Down To Earth (TBS, 7:00-8:55 PM)

In terms of comedy movies tonight, clearly Rock is you're only option.

Film Buffs:

Buffalo Soliders (Starz, 8:00-9:45 PM)

Yes, this poorly timed film about corrupt soliders is competent entertainment for those against President Bush's War on Terror.

Moviecrap Fans:

Kangaroo Jack (HBO, 6:30-8:00 PM)

Well, why should I say what the critics have already said? Just watch it and gave me your low ratings in the morning.

Bottom Line: Tonight is a night of action. Nuff said.
