  1. "Mastery Of Creation" by Wormsblood, some of the best black metal that actually evokes anything remotely depressive or sad without the vocalist trying to sound like an elephant getting a barbed wire enema. Likewise in the same vein, "Dead As Dreams" by Weakling and "Earth Turned Skywards" by Deafest.

  2. Vader is majestic and awesome and deserves all of the praise. Their latest release, "Welcome To The Morbid Reich", kicks ungodly amounts of ass and is as fine a starting point as any. Work your way back from there, skipping "The Beast" on the way and you are golden.

  3. If your heart holds any love for occult black metal, go go go go pick up Nightbringer's "Hierophany Of The Open Grave" from last year. It falls somewhere between traditional USBM like Krieg or Judas Iscariot and modern French BM like Blut Aus Nord and Glorior Belli, with a darker, oppressive atmosphere. It done gone own :w00t:

  4. "Multitudes" by Super Minerals, reminds me a lot of Natural Snow Buildings-type ambient/folk stuff but with a more sci-fi edge.

Been going p. much 50/50 between electronic ambient and raw black metal recently: Nordvrede's "Hammerprofeti" and Behexen's "By The Blessing Of Satan" own, dumb album art aside.

  5. Raised Fist - "Dedication"

Let me dedicate this song to those who never act in frustration

Let me give this song to those who have respect for all the punkbands in the nation

Let me pass this song to all the people that dare to disagree

Let me dedicate this song to those who downloaded this song as a mp3

    swedish hardcore punk for y'all

  6. 2011 was cool as all hell, and really picked up into hyperdrive over the summer-early autumn, at least for me. Tons of great stuff across the board from all the genres I love, and even some amazing outliers from everywhere and everything. Some random thoughts:

    - more estabilished death metal bands released quite lackluster showings: Decapitated, Exhumed, Fleshgod Apocalypse and Jungle Rot did pretty much nothing for me on repeated listenings. Really only Origin and Immolation stayed up to snuff on their most recent ventures.

    - European BM fucking slew across the board this year, with new Blut Aus Nord, Glorior Belli, Corpus Christii, Arckanum and Tsjuder especially owning bones.

    - Dirty Knobs. "Field Recordings From The Edge Of Hell". BWWOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.

anyways, I am still trying to whittle down my top 10 for the year, but here are the albums that have so far made it through the cuts:

    Sunsmasher - "LoudMammothianCult"

    Ssaliva - "Thought Has Wings"

    Battles - "Gloss Drop"

    Das Racist - "Relax"

    Blut Aus Nord - "777 Sect(s)"

Glorior Belli - "The Great Southern Darkness"

    Corpus Christii - "Luciferian Frequencies"

Dirty Knobs - "Field Recordings From The Edge Of Hell"

    Gridlink - "Orphan"

A Dancing Beggar - "Follow The Dark As If It Was Light"

Easily Embarrassed - "Tales Of The Coin Spinner"

    Belphegor - "Blood Magick Necromance"

Celestial Aeon Project - "The Fall Of Ragnaros"

    Graveborne - "Pure Negativity"

    Endstille - "Infektion 1813"

Mochipet - "Hello My Name Is Mochipet"

Charts And Maps - "Dead Horse"

.... yeah. LOTS of good stuff this year.

  7. Honestly, Behemoth are on a big comeback tour after Nergal won the battle with Leukemia. Plus, they are pretty big with the extreme metal crowd so it isn't that big of a stretch.

Are they bigger than Dimmu Borgir (who are just a sub-headliner this time)? This is a slot that Arch Enemy, Children of Bodom, Fear Factory and Blind Guardian were only seen big enough to 'co-headline' between them. It's a little bit of a stretch imo.

I honestly think it's just the big comeback tour factor, plus it's been more than a year since "Abrahadabra" so DB can't really pull the headline slot on the power of that anymore.

Eagerly hoping that Behemoth gets booked for Finland this summer.

  8. Anything good coming out of the sludge, doom, or stoner metal camps? I've been out of the loop for a while and I no longer know what's hip.

Shrinebuilder is a stoner-doom supergroup that released an excellent self-titled record last year, which owned bones and seems like nobody gave a shit about. For the life of me I do not know why.

Other recent great stuff in this vein:

Black Pyramid (debut self-titled last year, probably a personal AOTY, also released a compilation of demo stuff and b-sides this month titled "Stormbringer", get this get this get this get this)

Sunsmasher - "Loud/Mammothian/Cult" is a collection of demo stuff and is a blast

Bloodiest - "Descent", a sludge-post rock masterpiece, huge collective brainchild of Bruce Lamont and like a million other people

The Body - "All The Waters Of The Earth Turn To Blood", some of the darkest sludge material of 2010, definite vibes of Eyehategod and Buzzov*en if you are into that sort of grimier stuff

White Buzz - "Book Of Whyte", German stoner doom from 2009, plenty of fuzz and chill groove to be had

  9. I have no idea, do we use this as the generic manga thread as well? Or should that go into the comics thread?

Anyway, I just finished reading Eyeshield 21, and was wondering if there's any other cool team sports manga I have missed in the past. Don't care if it's over-the-top or anything, anything in the vein of Eyeshield/Giant Killing/Inazuma Eleven would own bones.
