  1. The four badminton teams are disqualified.

Looks like another example of management penalizing the rank and file for the former's mistakes. The badminton bigwigs should have clarified this much earlier if they didn't want multiple competitors from different countries assuming that tanking was a legitimate strategy.

  2. Some teams seem to change their uniforms every year anyway, purely to get more money out of the fans.

I doubt whatever projected revenue they'll make from this extra advertising is going to mean much, not with the way teams are still willing to overspend.

  3. Apparently, Dwight Howard is willing to sign an extension with LA. For now. This could of course change 15 times in the next 12 hours though. If LA ends up with a starting lineup of Nash, Kobe, Jamison, Gasol and Howard that's pretty much lights out, hand Kobe rings # 6 and 7 before he rides off into the sunset. I'm now convinced that the Knicks will never win a title during my lifetime :(

At least you now have another New York team to switch to.

And I don't honestly get all these people posting this vitriol - particularly the racist shit - on Facebook. Do they actually think no one is going to find their posts?

  4. He's Taiwanese.

There's a big difference there. Not to nitpick but it has nothing to do with the Chinese connection the Rockets established with Yao.

People in China regard Taiwan as part of the country. Entertainers from Taiwan tend to downplay the political tensions because the China market is really that lucrative.

That being said, fans in China would have rooted for whichever team Lin plays for, so long as he's playing well. Yi Jianlian gets media coverage, but people know Yi is not going to reach the same level of importance Yao Ming did in the NBA as a player.

If the Knicks were to match Lin, they would likely be approaching a 100 mil payroll in 2015, and according to David Aldridge on twitter, the luxury tax penalties for having such a huge payroll would mean paying an extra 85-115 mil for 1 year.

Easy to see why they won't match on Lin.

The Knicks paid luxury tax for bad teams. They'll be paying luxury tax for this team too, regardless whether Lin's on it. Heck, I think they've been paying luxury tax since the start of this century. They would have made that money back with endorsements and more merchandise sales. They certainly could have easily swayed a few Chinese companies to buy ad space.

  5. Breaking their playoff drought at the cost of Baron Davis' knee is a steep price. I'm not entirely sold yet on Mike Bibby turning into their version of Robert Horry; i.e., ineffective during the regular season, but valuable in the playoffs.

Next time the NBA has its season shortened by a lockout, they should let their teams expand their rosters to deal with injuries.

  6. I wouldn't be surprised if they play Lin (provided the doctors clear him), but I'd want his minutes limited.

I'm not really sure how big of a factor he can be for the Knicks; the Heat pretty much blunted his effectiveness the last time they played.

Besides, Miami's going to play the Knicks 8 vs 5 >_>
