  1. The destruction of Cleyra by Odin in Final Fantasy IX The Cargo Ship/Black Waltz III chase in Final Fantasy IX Alexander vs. Bahamut in Final Fantasy IX Entering Terra in Final Fantasy IX Seeing a pattern emerging? I love that game way too much. Have to admit, the opening Blitzball game in FFX also left me speechless...shame it all went downhill from there. *Prepares for imminent backlash* As for other games, I agree totally with -A-. Bioshock just blew me away. I remember the moment that I first heard the groaning of a Big Daddy - there were four people in the room talking, and the minute that low, onerous groaning started, everyone just went...deathly silent. ^_^ Was very awesome. Spoiler: Click here to viewPlus, the scene where the Little Sister summons her Big Daddy to fend off the advances of the Splicer near the start. You can almost feel his footsteps as he runs towards the room. Very atmospheric. Rogue Galaxy was another JRPG which made me go "oooooooh" or something to that effect - the artstyle was so different that the FMV's looked completely unique. Some of them were just epic - haven't played the game for about a year so I can't remember any particular examples. Remember it being damn purdy though. Have to admit, Mass Effect was another game which just made me think, "Oooooh! Everything's so shineeee!", like some small child. The only bit I've actually seen play out in the first city you end up in. It has a massive-aircraft-hanger feel to it, but the feeling of space is just amazing. Plus, as I say, everything (and everyone ) has a shiny, glossy feel to them. Awe-inspiring to someone who's used to (and loves) last-gen graphics.
  2. Come on. Everyone's got them. Bands that rock/rocked your world but the reasoning for it escapes you. If asked why you like the particular band, you just wouldn't be able to come up with a reason. I can only really think of five bands that fall into this category for me: Wheatus - Their self-titled debut was one of the first albums I ever bought and although I grew up to shun most bands like them, that album will always be one of my guilty pleasures. Just over 30 minutes of sheer personal nostalgia. I've actually been to see them live - 2 local support acts, every song from the first album, 2 hour gig in total - cost me £3. Awesome night. Junior Senior - Potentially the happiest group I've ever heard of - got into them originally due to "Move Your Feet", bought their first album "D-D-Don't Stop The Beat", was charmed utterly by it. And then I forgot all about them until I found their second album on Napster - fell in love with them again. And I am definitely not into overly happy synth-led Euro funk as a rule - but they kick ass IMO. (I'm not sure if "overly happy synth-led Euro funk is an actual genre...might have to check that) The Coral - Potentially my favourite band of all time, yet when asked about it, I can never explain it. The ambience, the vocals, the lyrics, the different sounds they can create just speak to me. I know that they have made some surreal stuff in the past (Simon Diamond being the perfect example - a song about a man that turns into a tree ) but they also create effortlessly catchy pop tunes (Dreaming Of You, Pass It On, In The Morning, Who's Gonna Find Me? etc.) To me, they are just a great band. Pretty sure they'll be many that disagree, but I couldn't care less. To me, they = win. Milburn - A shameless Arctic Monkeys rip-up (explainable enough seeing as how the lead singers know each other) that sadly split up last year and yet I think they had as much an ear for a jaunty tune as the Monkeys. Have only got "Well Well Well" ATM, although I have heard most of their second album "These Are The Facts". The Von Bondies - A band that disappeared off the face of the earth in 2004, probably most famous amongst White Stripes fans as the "band-with-the-lead-singer-that-Jack-White-beat-the-crap-out-of". I've got one of their albums, Pawn Shoppe Heart, but I remember loving the crap out of it when I was 16 - probably listened to it over and over for a good three weeks. And the worst bit about it was, I later heard the Subways, who sound like the VB's in many ways, and I inexplicably hated the Subways. Inexplicably. I then re-listened to the album and thought, "Fuck. This sounds exactly like the Subways. That's annoying." I listened to it again about two months again and found myself liking it against my will. Ah well... Anyway, what examples of you guys got?
  3. The Whitest Boy Alive...wow...probably the only group I like on the merit of two songs (Golden Cage and Fireworks) and a trippy video involving illusions. If you're into the idea of chilled out Euro-indie then you'll love 'em, I reckon. One of these days I will get round to downloading/buying "Dreams" too...then again, I said that about the Reel Big Fish back catalogue and that still hasn't bloody happened. Curse my flightiness! >_<
