  1. KoRn and Linkin Park are names I'd throw around. It seems like even KoRn fans jumped off the wagon after Untouchables, which I felt was a great album, and Linkin Park has put out great music, and great spin-offs, despite the lame 'rap-rock' tag that they don't even deserve.

Korn's first album is great and definetely the peak for Nu-Metal. Their cause hasn't been helped by the fact that they stayed together and kept releasing albums to diminishing returns. And they were also responsible for making Limp Bizkit big. That is unforgivable.

Linkin Park are just sub-standard U2.

On Skummy's point about if a band released Bohemian Rhapsody nowadays it would be rediculed, falls down on the fact that Muse appear to be a carbon copy of Queen without the apartheid support.

The 'drizzling shits' that passes for Rn'B, rap and dance surely follows what Gazz is saying about Paramore et al. People listening to it will be turned onto Blackalicious, The Roots and Fuck Buttons eventually. Maybe.

  2. There's a few bands I want to see there. I really should have gone last year when Mike Patton/Melvins were curating. I can't see ATP doing a better line-up than that. I should definetely go to one of these some day. The problem always is finding people to go with, because of the niche choice of bands, as well as the price. I have to pay for a chalet as well as my tickets? Bleh. Its probably cheaper to drive there from my parents each day.

Who decides on when these events are held? Surely hosting one a weekend after another is bizarre business practice? Weren't the summer ones close together too?

  3. Weird.

Polanski had unlawful sex with 13-year-old Samantha Gailey at actor Jack Nicholson's Hollywood home.

So Nicholson must have given permission? I mean, you don't just take a random girl to a friend and then ask; 'hey, can we use your bedroom? I gotta tell her something personal....'.

From what I understand of the matter (from reading about it years ago), Nicholson's agreed to his house being used for auditions/screen tests etc. and wasn't actually there at the time.

I'd barely call this news, surprised it took this long.

I'm not posting it for the newsworthy apect, just from the aspect that I'm surprised there is a lot of support for the guy.

  4. New Weezer cover art has been revealed. Brace yourself...

    weezer-raditude-cover.jpg

Besides the already shitty songs been announced and heard on the internet, it has 'Can't Stop Partying' on it, which was on one of River Cuomo's solo compilation things and is actually quite good. The rest will probably be quite shitty but that is to be expected with any new Weezer.

  5. Ash are playing the Havana? Bwahaha, that's one of the most bizarre things I've ever heard.

It's a surprisingly good venue, though, I played there once myself, and I saw Art Brut, Kid Carpet and a few others there a while back, and it always pretty good.

    Well...

I went into SDS this morning who are meant to be selling tickets and they seemed totally oblivious to the matter. I can understand if the tickets weren't on sale yet, but the manager hadn't even heard about it. It seems odd advertising a gig when you haven't even approached the apparent ticket vendor about it.

  6. So... Ash are doing some cool things now. They are releasing a single every two weeks for the next year, and are touring the British Isles going A-Z. Read more about here.

Shame they've been rubbish recently, but still its pretty cool. They haven't put any tour dates up yet, but according to the Jersey Live programme that I currently have in front of me they're playing Jersey on Halloween. 'J' for Jersey. Fuck knows where else they're playing though. Turns out Jersey isn't as musically barren as it looked on first appearance. Additionally they're playing a club that has banned fatties, so no sweaty fat people for me to knock into. :)

Do you reckon 'Andy Warhol' will be a David Bowie cover?

  8. Flags are banned at Reading. <img src="http://www.ewbattleground.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" :) " border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

    Where did you hear that?

That would suck. Yeah they can be annoying when your stuck behind someone with one, but then again it does make the atmosphere of the crowd a lot better when you watch the highlights on the TV and they make an excellent meeting spot to find your mates.

"Alright mate, where about's are you?"

"Im by a geezer with a big pink flag, to the left of the stage. Can you see it?"

"Ahhh yeah i can see it. I try and squeeze my way over there now".

    Simples.

    Here.

  9. Coming from a guy who adored the hell out of American Idiot, I've only been truly able to enjoy Song of the Century (yeah... probably not a good sign...), the title track, East Jesus Nowhere, Peacemaker and maybe The Static Age so far. Everything else seems to be so-so, somewhat enjoyable but just doesn't entirely click. Maybe the whole thing will grow on me, sure hope so. A lot of the songs have a really... well, I mean, I understand that in general a band's sound can't be expected to change all that much during the years, but things like the Static Age's opening drums and many others just sound like leftover material from American Idiot. Not to say they sound worse, but they do sound exactly same. To my ear Restless Heart Syndrome's guitar part after Armstrong mutters "...know your enemy..." sounds incredibly similiar to parts of Boulevard of Broken Dreams. The chorus of Static Age sounds like Church on Sunday, etc.

I mentioned I liked East Jesus Nowhere, it's mostly because of the melodies. The lyrics are almost embarassing to listen to. It's all so... "oh we're fucked up, fuck politics, fuck everything around us". It's like, everything, entirely everything is rotten and corrupted and spoiled and Lord knows what else. Like said above, truly bring to mind some 14 year old tortured emo. As a matter of fact, it sounded like a Chris Jericho promo in sung form at times with all the talk about parasites, hypocrites, sycophants and conspiracies :shifty:

Well, they never used "sycophants" I believe...

Pretty much entirely and only about organized religion.

I've been advising people who are having trouble digesting the thing has a whole to listen to the 3 acts on their own. Each one stands out on its own better when you're not comparing it to the rest of the album, as tracks will get lost in the shuffle and whathaveyou.

...so to enjoy the album, you shouldn't listen to the whole album?

  10. For those interested, from Billy Gould's Twitter:

“Okay, kids, you knew it was gonna happen, and now I’m happy to confirm it: June 10, Brixton Academy!! Brixton Academy Pre-sale to Download ticket holders on May 6 and 7. Tickets go on sale to the general public May 8.”

    Tickets will be £32.50.

Dunno if I can afford that expense. Especially on the Thursday of Download. Doubt my girlfriend would enjoy spending the first part of Download with people she's only met once, lugging my shit around.
