  1. Yeah, I did like how it paid homage to the whole series prior to it though.

Oh by the way, am I the only excited about Fate/Stay Night : Unlimited Blade Works movie coming out soon.

The Visual Novel that Fate/Stay Night was based on had three paths that the story could take. The Anime followed the canon ending.

The UBW movie on the other hand is going to cover the "OMFG! This shit is bad ass!" ending which was the most popular ending in the first place.

Here is a trailer for the movie.

  2. Since the search function doesn't work - does anyone know if Dragonball Kai is likely to be redubbed at any point? I know people always say originals are better, but I just can't be bothered watching something I originally saw in english in another language, call it a quirk <_<

I'd say there is decent chance of it, but I don't know if there is any official word on it yet.

If it does happen there is a decent chance that the voice cast might be completely different.

  3. 1. Dio Brando - Jojo's Bizare Adventure

Dio Brando was the inteligent son of a 2 bit thief in England. After his father died he was taken in by the Joestar Family. The Joestar family was very wealthy. Dio decides he wants the Joestar Fortune for himself and is determined to see to it that Jonathan Joestar, the son of the house and heir to fortune, is driven insane. When they where kids, he isolated Jonathan from his friends and even got them to do a complete 180 to the point that they began bully him. And after he found out what girl he liked he kissed her right in front of Jonathan is deeply embarrassed him. He got Jonathan's father to recognize him for his accomplishments while Jonathan began to fail, but none of that was quite good enough. When that wasn't enough to push Jonathan over the edge, he took Jonathan's dog, his last friend in the world, knocked the dog unconscious, and hid the dog deep inside a large outdoor furnace. Later that day, one of the grounds servants lit the furnace, which of course set the dog on fire. The bewildered servant threw open the furnace doors and the dog ran out into the yard in front of Jonathan, who had been looking for the dog for hours, on fire before it finally collapsed in the yard and died from it's burns.

When they grew up and graduated from college, Dio plotted to have the head of the Joestar family killed. When his plan was eventually foiled, rather than face capture, Dio chose to become a Vampire. After becomming a vampire he did much to terrorize the countryside. For instance, promised a mother that he wouldn't kill her baby if she became a vampire and she accepted. After she became a vampire, the first thing Dio did was make her eat her own baby alive. He also fed a toddler his own poo once warmed over a candle and told him that if he ever had to clean up his shit again he'd eat that shit. During the final battle against Jonathan Joestar in Part one of Jojo's Bizzare Adventure, both Jonathan and Dio got their heads cut off on a ship at night and both of them went over into the ocean.

After 70 years on the ocean floor, Dio's head drifted close enough to Jonathan Joestars' body and he was able to regenerate his head onto Jonathan Joestar's body, which subsequently made him more powerful than before because while Dio was smarter than Jonathan Joestar, Jonathan was considerably stronger than him. Aside from that though he discovered a type of magic called Stands and with his stand he was able to gain a whole bunch of other abilities he didn't have before, such as the ability to stop time. Dio decided to go around and kill everyone of Jonathan Joestar's descendants because he feels that if any of them are alive they will be a threat to his plans. Aside from that though he goes on a huge killing spree in other. Aside from killing dozens of people on his own at a whim he also forces several innocent bystanders to kill other people. For instance he at one point he got in a Taxi and was tired of the traffic so he had the taxi driver go on the sidewalk and eventually got the driver going around 80 miles an hour on a crowded sidewalk just running people over and mowing them down.

    2. ID - Xenogears

    3. Darth Vader

    4. Hannibal Lector

    5. Darkseid - DC Comics

    6. Roah - Hakuto No Ken (Fist of the North Star)

    7. T-1000

    8. Agent Smith

    9. Gygas - Earth Bound

    10. Star Scream

I'm going edit this later with reasons as to why I feel they deserve their spots.

  4. Never said I didn't, truth be told I didn't actually watch it. I'll have a look sometime, but still, the point was directed more at the GL one :P

Ahh, you should read/watch Fist of the North Star if you ever have a chance. Not only was it the title that launched Weekly Shonen Jump and made it a viable publication. Not only has it been referenced in such series as Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Dragonball, One Piece, ect. but when most anime and manga authors are generally asked about what their favorite Manga was, the most common answer has always been Hakuto No Ken.

Besides that, the majority of the cast are way more bad ass than just about any other series out there. Don't get me wrong, the cast of Gurren Lagann was pretty damn good, but they don't hold a candle to Hakuto No Ken in the Gar Department.

  5. There's multiple endings to the first game I believe, but the one I played through he died. However the DLC takes place after the first game, so I believe that would follow the Star Wars Universe Canon.

    The DLC is non-canon sir.

In the first one the Apprentice hunts down Obi-wan Kenobi while he's still in Mos Eisly and kills him in the dockng bay while theFalcon flies away. In the second one he sneaks into Echo Base during the Battle of Hoth alone and ends up fighting Luke.

The Canon ending is Galen Marrik is killed by the Emperor while helping to give birth to Rebellion. The Secret Apprentice becoming the Emperor's Top Assassin is not canon. If the force Unleashed Sequel features the same character, it can only either be a prequel, or it has to take place within an Alternate Universe that is seperate from Star Wars canon.

  6. The 300 Gurren Lagann trailer was awesome like, a year and a half ago. It still is, mind, but if you're going to wow us with AMVs be sure to do them with recent ones :shifty:

You didn't like the Hakuto no Ken (Fist of the North Star) one?

  7. Do you have an HD set? If you do you can run a cable from your computer to his TV and effectively make it a second computer monitor. Then you could just watch movies on your computer on your TV without having to convert anything.

... Other than the type of cable between the computer to the TV of course... :shifty:

  8. .....trying to burn anime today, not much luck.

First, the first two episodes of School Rumble are MKV....so I have to convert them. Then, the burning process fails for some reason. Then the disk size is too small (tells me this AFTER it goes through the 3 hour process). Then I find out the first two episodes do not have sub titles. FUCKING HELL. Now trying to find the first two episodes....

You know... you could just watch it for free on Hulu. I believe they have dubbed and subtitled version of School Rumble set up to stream.

  9. ......why are we talking about which characters (well, by "we" I mean newguy) can beat one another?

Who cares how uber geeky it is, if it's fun it's fun. Besides that, it can lead to learning about stuff you haven't heard of before if someone is bringing up a series your unfamiliar with, as well as differences between different versions of the series.

For instance there are huge differences between the Trigun Anime and the Trigun manga.

Does anyone really care that Tenchi Muyo has super powerful characters that can beat anything with a blink of an eye?

I would love to extrapolate on this, but I'm trying very hard not to actually spoil the plot of the 3rd part of the OVA series. Ask a comic book guy about Mad Jim Jaspers, or Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet and you'll start getting an idea.

I don't want to watch a show where the characters are super powerful and stand no chance of death. Hell, even DBZ threw us a 'death' every so often.

There is a very real possibility of death here.

... as well as the destruction of the entire Universe.

  10. I can't decide whether I'm impressed or terrified by someone writing this much about Tenchi Muyo in 2009.

For me, I thought it was really cool in 2000 but. That was 2000. I'm cool with not watching it again and leaving my memories of it positive.

Well that's because there wasn't that much Tenchi Muyo in 2000.

I was re-introduced to the series about a year ago when I joined a friendly geeky debate forum with vs. matches different fictional characters.

At the same time I was also introduced to a whole range of other series that I knew every little about before, as well as several comic book characters. The way debate typically works out is when someone makes an unexpected claim they face of the burden of proof of backing up their claims which often results in posting scans, video, or verifiable source information or information taken directly from source information. In a heated debate these sorts of things can be taken very seriously.

The reason why it lead me into re-introducing myself to Tenchi Muyo! is because it is actually the most powerful Anime, in terms of what the characters are actually capable of, ever created. There are no less then 5 Tenchi Muyo characters that would be able to destroy Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and Anti-Spiral at the same time, potentially six but that would require a very specific set of circumstances.

One good anime I learned about was Jojo's Bizzare Adventure, which is a Manga series that ran for over 20 years. JJBA is actually a six part series, but only the 2nd part was ever animated.

Speaking of JJBA, Dio Brando is probably one of the most bad ass vampires ever. For those who aren't yet prepared one of the best fights in anime happens over the course of the next 3 links...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Se46wfEy9l8

Conversation has pretty well fallen off there though because all of the really good original matches have already been discussed and most of the new threads are from newbies who make threads that have been done dozens of times in the past already.

    - In match ups between DC and Marvel, while DC has the stronger Super Heroes, Marvel's cosmic characters are way powerful than DCs.

    - Superman really does beat Goku in almost every circumstance, in fact you have to hand pick the weakest versions of superman for Goku to stand a chance.

    - Captain America's Shield is durable enough that it has been used to stop punches of beings that are capable of shattering entire planets by punching them.

    - Batman, if given sufficient amount of information and prep time, can beat just about anyone.

    - It is actually very difficult to set up an even fight against the characters from Dragonball Z because they seem to straddle a middle ground where almost everyone you put them in a fight would either be strong enough to completely wipe out the Dragonball Z fighters, or those matched up would be so much weaker than the Dragonball Z fighters that they wouldn't really stand a chance.

    - Boba Fett's ship, Slave I, has more firepower than any version of the Enterprise from Star Trek.

    - The weapons in Star Wars all actually Kinetic energy shots. Because of this, every gun emplacement on a ship in Star Wars has to be built sturdy enough to receive the same amount of recoil that their weapons put out, or else it would rip the ship apart (this information comes from the A New Hope Novel). Therefore, since the kinetic energy hits the firer as much as the target, the Death Star must be built sturdy enough to tank an attack that would destroy a planet because otherwise the Death Star would have ripped itself apart when it fired.

  11. I like the original Tenchi Muyo, but it's been nearly a decade since I've seen it. So.

Ditto. I have to say that I never really understood the plot while I was watching it though.

Yu Yu Hakusho. The name just popped into my head. I remember liking it, and I remember it getting very close to finishing before SBS cut it off. Was so disappointed. Anyone know of it, and has it held up well. Might look into reacquiring it.

Well the first thing you have to realize is that there are 2 Tenchi Continuities that have nothing to do with one another other than that they share some of the same characters, and even the characters and their backgrounds had major differences.

Tenchi Muyo! OVA series was made first, and is the original series. The primary creator of the series was Kajishima Masaki, his co-writer on the original OVA series was Hayashi Hiroki. In the OVA series, and in all of those shows that relate to it in continuity, Kajishima Masaki was the head writer.

After the commercial success of the OVA series the Anime Tenchi Universe, Tenchi in Tokyo, and the Movies where produced, but Kajishima Masaki's roles in those series was greatly diminished when Hayashi Hiroki took over as the lead writer and had become non-existent by the time the movies and Tenchi and Tokyo where made. The anime series made later by Hayashi Hiroki has no continuity with the OVA series.

This turn of events is the primary reason why the third part of the OVA series wasn't released until 2003.

There are many notable differences between the two continuities. One of the main differences is how much stronger the characters from the OVA series are. For example, Sasami would beat everybody from Dragon Ball Z. And I don't mean individually. I mean all of them at once. Not only that, but it really wouldn't matter how powered up they became, it would never be enough. Don't trust me? Watch the third part of the OVA series.

Another key difference is scope. While Tenchi Universe has everything within the confines of one universe, The OVA series actually spans multiple dimensions and multiple universes.

Now that your good and confused here is the quick rundown of what is considered to be part of the continuity of the OVA series.

Naturally, there is all 3 parts of the OVA series itself, Tenchi Muyo! GXP is in the same continuity as OVA series and within the same Universe. There are also several light novels that take place in the same Universe as the OVA series that take place several years later when...

Tench has become the king of Jurai

Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari is also part of the Tenchi Muyo continuity, although it takes place in a parallel universe.

Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventure is also related to the Tenchi Muyo OVA in so much that it takes place within the same multiverse and shares a few common links that aren't made clear until near the end of the series.

  12. It is the white a Sekijin.

Itwas fine when I was an impoverished university student and ADV weretaking their sweet time releasing Volume 5 of Evangelion on DVD. Iwould watch any shit that my friend gave me on burnt CD-Rs to get myanime fix (though even then I drew the line at Urotsukidoji ). I did try watching some of it again a couple of years ago...and man. Oh man.

Butin subjective terms, the original Tenchi Muyo (The Ballad of Ryo-ohki)and Tenchi Universe were the better parts of the franchise. The filmswere pointless. Tenchi in Tokyo was diabolically bad. GXP was alaughably bad idea, considering how virtually everyone had forgottenTenchi even existed by that stage.

Although I have just recalledthat there was a 3rd part to the original Tenchi Muyo OAVs that theyweirdly decided to create in 2003, nearly 10 years after the first twosets of OAVs. For some reason I remember thinking that they'd stolenplot ideas from Ranma 1/2, but I never actually watched it so don'tremember why.

I don't remember them stealing anything from Ranma 1/2 but I would highly recommend watching it since its basically where the big reveal of the series is and it's pretty good.

Anyhow, here are the connections to Tenchi Muyo that have been made so far. He has referred to several of the girls from Tenchi Muyo as his "sisters". Sister Washu in particular did all sorts of experiments on him. Tenchi seems to be spending most of his time on Jurai now.

Kenshi seems to have been summoned due to circumstance. It is very rare for people born in the world the series takes place in to be able to control Seikijin. The villains, are a paramilitary group aiming for world domination. To gain an advantage in the war they needed more Seikijin and people who pilot them. The main thing that holds them back is that the Seikijin and their pilots are very closely regulated by an international entity that maintains the balance of power in the world by closely regulating Seikijin, their pilots, and the number of each that each nation is allowed to have.

So to get around that, bad guys started summoning people from other universes to pilot the Seikijin because they are able to limit the ones they summon to just people who are able to pilot Sekijin

Most importantly though, the series is pretty entertaining.

  13. So, has anyone seen Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari yet?

Its a Tenchi Muyo Spin-off OVA series. 9 episodes have aired in Japan, it's going to be 13 episodes long at the end, and so far only 6 of them have been subbed.

Kenshi Masaki is the half brother of Tenchi Masaki and used tolive in Japan, that is until he was summoned to the land of Geminar. The Land of Geminar has been witness to an endless amount of wars thathave been fought using Seikijin, bio-mechanical weapons controlled by acapable warrior called a Seikishi using magic power called Ahou. It isrevealed that Kenshi is an amazing Seikishi and it seems someone has areason for Kenshi to be in Geminar, but who and why are not known.
  14. Not only do I not get it, I just had to read a page of Naruto. I'll be right back, scrubbing the Naruto off of me.

Kisame, quite literally, got his head taken off by a double lariat.

    Here it he set-up.

About a year ago we where introduced to the character "Killer Bee", which is the guy who started out on the ground this. His debut appearence was a fight against Sasuke and stable of lackeys. Sasuke at the time is a heel/tweener working for the big bads, and they need Killer Bee captured alive.

At first Sasuke tries to fight him alone. Well Killer Bee's first move ends up being this sonic the Hedgehog looking spin and Sasuke flying threw the air with 7 swords shoved in his torso. Before he can die, Sasuke's group manages to save him and bring him back into the fight, but each and every one of them go down at least once during the fight.

In the end it looked like Sasuke's group finally managed to take him down. Killer Bee's village is Cloud village, and one of guys from the village spotted the fight and they went back to report what happened. The Cloud village also appears to be where all the black and white people have been hiding until now. The leader of the Cloud Village, the Raikage, is also Killer Bee's older brother.

Well it turns out that Killer Bee wasn't captured. Instead Sasuke carried a clone back and the bad guys where none too pleased. Instead of going home, Killer Bee decides to let his village believe he is still missing because it would make for an excellent opportunity for him to take a vacation.

So there is a long stretch where we don't see Killer Bee and during the break Raikage also has a fight with Sasuke. Raikage's is strong and durable enough to jump through walls that are several feet thick head on and face first. He also charges his body up with electricity to stun his opponents when he touches them and exclusively fights using pro-wrestling moves. There is a part where he hits Sasuke with a Lariat, follows that up with a power bomb, and finished things off with a tombstone pile driver for good measure.

So Kisame, who works for the Big bads finally tracks Killer Bee down do Sasuke's job. Turns out Kisame's sword is every bit as alive as he is and has a personality of it's own. During the fight Kisame does a whole lot of heel moves like attacking Killer Bee's defenseless friends. Then an unexpected twist happens. Kisame's sword, samahada, does a heel-face turns and joins Killer Bee. Kisame attacks his old sword and picks up a steel chair! a discarded sword he's just about to attack Killer Bee with it when the chapter starts.

  15. I'm not sure how many people read Naruto on this forum, but there are a couple of characters introduced in the last year where all their fights are written like pro-wrestling matches. Here is the end of the last match.
