  1. Then you're taking it way too seriously. If you accept it's what they do for nearly every game (United/Chelsea had a boxing motif, for example), then just have a laugh and enjoy it.

Yeah maybe I am. Got a suspected kidney infection just now so am in constant pain and therefore constantly grumpy. >_>

Hopefully the footy will cheer me up. :)

  2. While playing the game my mate and I said, we would totally get the game if it had anthems (the demo doesn't have them)

It does. Unfortunately the commentators talk over them though.

Wow and damn, I love the demo. They've created a brilliant atmosphere. Also, yay for Tyldesley and Townsend. They're no Drury and Beglin but I prefer them to Tyler and Gray.

God the commentary got right on my tits. Only had a quick play around with the demo but I'm hoping they can be turned off?

  3. At least he finished his fights.

Silva has finished every fight bar two decision victories since coming to the UFC.

Exactly what I was just checking. He's won 11 fights in UFC, 9 by KO/TKO/Submission.

The crowd can shit on the fight all it wants. Dana can shit on Silva all he wants. The fact is you can't force him to finish the fight. If he doesn't want to take the risk of getting caught with something when he goes in and prefers to see out the five rounds and win on points, that's up to him. If he wants to showboat while he's doing it to intimidate his opponent, then apparently there's nothing in the rules to stop him. It's a sport, not entertainment - if you want exciting fights, that's what WWE is for.

"If you want exciting fights, that's what WWE is for."

...are you fucking kidding me? That is likely the worst excuse that I have heard yet - the top guys in the sport go out there to have exciting fights. Every last one of them will state that. If Silva is only interested in having a long reign, and ducking away from opponents to keep his win record going that's fine. But Dana's not going to want to showcase him when the fans don't want to see the shit that he pulled the other night.

It's a sport, you go out there to win. No it might not be pretty, it might not be entertaining but the guy won by unanimous decision, so he must've done something right. It happens in every sport, some teams might not be enjoyable to watch sometimes, but if they win then I'm sure they don't care and would be quite happy to take it. My WWE comment was basically that if you want entertainment then watch an entertainment show. Sport can be entertaining to watch too, but obviously not all the time, so you're taking a gamble there.

  5. Get in there Pompy! Would be great for the players if they made it, they've had to deal with a lot of shit this season.

But the pitch comes into play for the goal with Dawson slipping. Seriously it's like watchin a Home Alone re-enactment out there.

  6. No there's no rules against smack talking or taunting.

Anderson got warned for: Timidity, including, without limitation, avoiding contact with an opponent, intentionally or consistently dropping the mouthpiece or faking an injury. but no rule on smack talking or taunting

Well I can understand the timidity warning. But unless they actually punish him for it, he'll keep acting like an ass in the fights and probably keep winning them too. That's the thing - Dana's pissed at Silva's antics, but he's obviously still an excellent fighter since he keeps winning. And if he keeps bending the rules then they need to punish him if they want him to stop.

This is the fine line - it's a sport, not entertainment. Dana obviously wants entertaining fights, but if a fighter keeps doing what Silva is doing and winning then there's nothing he can do about it, and throwing down the title and leaving in the 4th round is just unprofessional for someone running a company like UFC. You never see the head of the FA storm out of the FA Cup Final because the match has been boring and both teams are playing defensively. Or if one team goes 6-0 up and then just passes the ball between the back 4. Dana can't go out there and demand entertaining fights between the fighters. Some fights will be stinkers, that's what happens when you're running a sport.

  7. I really don't know much about UFC, so forgive me if this is a dumb question - but is there anything in the rules prohibiting showboating or taunting? I'm guessing there's something that says you have to at least be in a fighting stance, going by the threat to take a point off Silva if he kept running around, but is there anything to stop a fighter smack talking to his opponent or taunting/mocking them otherwise?

  8. It was great hearing the commentator saying how "magnificent" the pitch was after 3 or 4 players had slipped over in the first 5 minutes. I feel sorry for Spurs and Portsmouth having to play on that tomorrow.

ITV commentators are just the shits. I think it was Steve Ryder who soundbyted into the break with something like "Chelsea convincing 3-0 winners here", and then came back from the break discussing with the 'pundits' how the 3-0 scoreline flattered them. I mean for fuck sake.
