  1. Anybody doing the Grand National today? Looking forward to it as always. I'll be doing a few quid on some outsiders, the odd forecast and I've got a fiver on Vic Venturi, which I've got high hopes for.

Since I've no idea about horse racing but always like a bet on the National, I've just stuck a few quid on Vic Venturi myself. So you better know what you're doing >_>

And good shout on UFC, normally I don't watch, but since it's on at 6PM here due to the time difference I might have a bash.

  2. Finished Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition about 2 hours ago. First got a Wii late last year and picked RE4 up used a couple of months ago with trade-in credit, without having really played any RE games before and only going by the good numbers the game posted in reviews.

Wow. Definitely one of the best non-PC games I've ever played, really enjoyed it. The story got a bit cheesy at times and my god is that Ashley girl annoying as hell (and Leon with the personality of a wet blanket), but if you can overlook those then it's a fantastic game. I realise I'm late to the party though and everyone and their mother has probably played it by now, but meh, I enjoyed playing through it.

Had a quick shot of Mercenaries mode though, and it seems like it'll be quite tough to post top scores on it. But reading up on what you get if you do, then I like the sound of that.

Something that might ruin it for me though - second playthrough means you get to keep everything right? Weapons, money, treasure that sort of thing?

  3. Robben looks like an old man anyway, but he aged about another 20 years during his celebration last night:

I know, I was thinking "What the fuck is he doing there? Adjusting his hearing aid? Doing an Ali G impression? Running on hot coals?"

Seriously, what the fuck was that?!

And also, that RVN celebration was brilliant. So what did he get booked for? Antagonising another player? Because getting in their face and laughing right at them when they miss a penalty is absolutely fine, obviously.

  4. Biggest half time score in Premier League history apparently... and Bellamy is such a knob, you're 5-0 up, does it really matter if it was a free kick or not? Shut up before you get completely needlessly booked.

EDIT: Correction, biggest half time lead for an away team. Still, I've seen better defending from Subbuteo players.

  5. Football games!

    SWOS was the king.

Football Glory - blatant knockoff but still entertaining (overhead kicks and attacking the ref? OK!)

Wasn't there an old ISS game they used to play on GamesMaster all the time where when you went to shoot you got a closeup of the goal and a crosshair to move? That looked so cool.

Premier Manager was the management king before the fucked it up and CM/FM took over. That weird pitch view from PM3 that you normally watched in fast speed is still awesome.

Ultimate Soccer Manager was great too. Something about setting the price of your hotdogs and pies was quite appealing.

Sure I played a Striker game back on the Amiga too, can't remember what one though. But basically if you went Brazil you were unbeatable.

And I had an old PC game called It's A Funny Old Game, which was basically a really shit management game that tried to be funny by having all the players names as rude variations (presumably for copyright reasons too) and allowed you to basically tell your players to do all sorts of dirty tricks. Setting the aggro meter up to full would ensure about 4 red cards every game. And all the team names were variations on their nicknames too, so it took some thinking to actually work out who was who. Yeah it was crap.

EDIT: And Hamster, good shout - Off The Ball: World Cup edition. That was absolutely one of my favourites too, I seem to remember the press conferences being particularly great.

  6. So far it's just a press release of a few sentences saying that it is in development, will allow 3D without glasses, will be released between April 2010 and March 2011 (doesn't say where, presumably Japan) and the "3DS" is a temporary name. And that they plan to tell us more at E3 I think was in there too.

  7. It's a bit silly isn't it? Well, maybe not silly but certainly hypocritical. If I remember right when the PSP Go launched Nintendo execs criticized Sony for releasing too many variations of the same handheld, and now Nintendo's got the DS, DSi, DS Lite, DS XL, and now the 3DS?

I believe the 3DS is essentially the DS2, so it's more of a successor than a variation. The Gameboy Advance had the original, SP and Micro variation and the DS has had original, Lite and DSi variations, with the XL basically for old people who can't see the screen, since the whole point of the DS is that it can fit in your pocket. But I'm certainly intrigued by the announcement, certainly looking forward to (hopefully) seeing it at E3.
