  1. Why are people so defensive about a game? It's perfectly acceptable to call it subpar when it clearly is.

Because some people paid full price + extra for day one DLC and when faced with the possibility that they've been sold a dud their options are to either trade it (for a good $20 less than they paid for it) in or find some positives out of it.

"I bought a product and now my options are only to get rid of it or to keep it".

Surely that's true of literally anything?

Well yes, but with most things it's easy to return them and receive a refund or trade of around the same price, when it comes to media then it's a mess because only a fraction of game retailers will allow you to trade it in for something else within a few days if you didn't like it, otherwise you're going to get taken for a ride if you broke the seal.

Of course this problem wouldn't have happened if journalism in the game industry wasn't so terrible that average games get average reviews BEFORE they're released, but instead we're left with reviews and games that are polar opposites of each other, with trustworthy reviews only coming out a week after a games release.

  3. Sounds like she'd love it then, what with Nintendo releasing basically all of those games except Pokemon for the system.

The only thing that might drag it down is that bar Xenoblade I don't think there's any JRPG games coming out for the Wii U, and the Wii was similarly barren for JRPGs

  4. There's absolutely nothing wrong with getting a Wii U right now given that it has the largest number of exclusives and good games of any current gen console as of now (which will obviously change by the end of the gen), and depending on the age of your step daughter you could just remove the tablet and she'd be unable to break everything by purchasing something from the store or updating the console.

Just think up a list of games you'd be willing to play before you get it, never buy a console just for one or two games.

  5. I love how Cena reacts in that Magic CM Punk GIF. What the hell is that?

What you saw was actually the reversed gif, the correct gif shows Cena overcoming what looks like certain defeat in order to regain his WWE Championship.

  6. Oh my god it's this same circular argument all over again.

    1) They're building the next gen games from the ground up.

    2) So code won't just 'be there' because they're writing the code from scratch.

    3) So we'll see less content than last year because the focus will have been on starting everything from scratch

Now whether it works or not relies on how it actually plays, if the core gameplay is good then it'll have been worth it. If the gameplay is terrible then the entire game is literally "wait until next year" where not only will they add more match types and whatnot but they'll also refine the new engine.

  7. I'm down with that.

The problem with Ice Ice Outpost (and, to be honest, Yoshi Circuit, which has nothing going for it beyond "track shaped like Yoshi") is that it's sitting alongside six tracks that are totally incredible. Rainbow Road seems to be bigger (and therefore less claustrophobic) but it's still Rainbow Road. Wario's Gold Mine was the best track in Mario Kart Wii. And all four of the other new tracks are tremendous. The Master Cycle is probably my new favorite bike, which sucks because I suspect everyone is using Link now.

I'd still like to see them fix battle mode, but I never played it much anyway.

That's the only big complaint about the DLC I have, saying that the original Rainbow Road was only designed for 8 racers on the same track so it makes sense to make it a little wider to accommodate more players but it really loses the whole point of it being in the game if they're going to gimp it like that by making it super wide. There's already two Rainbow Roads in the game so making an easy mode one is silly.

Excite Bike and F-Zero are absolutely fantastic though, and Yoshi's track is great if only because there's barely any tracks in the game with as many quick curves so it's great for ruining other people's fun.

  8. And of course that's the big problem.

There isn't ever going to be a perfect WWE game because it'd defeat the point of buying another game.

So we'll always be two steps forward two steps back, even though it's moved from Yukes.

Wait until next year removes NXT mode or something else to 'balance' it.
