  1. I'm sorry Derrick Rose fans but he's awful now. He puts up the occasional good game still, but overall he's among one of the worst point guards in the league at this point. He's a black hole of offense who can't shoot the three and can't score inside the arc efficiently. He makes players around him a lot worse (Butler averaged a 28-7-7 without Rose this year. a 28-7-7!) His advanced metrics are an absolute mess and have been since he returned a couple of years ago (13.5 PER? .009 WS/48? 96 ORtg on 27% usage?). His game is based on athleticism and getting to the rim, two things he lost when he injured his leg so many times (and he's unable to adapt, e.g. not developing a three pointer). There's not much of a reward here other than him averaging 18 PPG, fans not knowing any better and thinking that's good, and him stupidly getting signed to an extension. The best case scenario is we don't resign him. That's it.

  2. Anyone thinking Shaq would be less effective today doesn't understand basketball.

Shaq would be a bigger asset today as he was required to be double teamed at all times, which would open long range shooting opportunities. Combine that with the fact that there would be no center that could handle him today and with Shaq's underrated passing skills and Shaq would be more unstoppable than he already was.

Steph is simply sensational and inexpiable in every way. And this is really just a start of a new era in NBA basketball, the era of the super-elite shooters that can score in even the most wildest of situations from ranges that nobody should ever shoot at.

I agree 100% with this. It's actually not much different than Michael Jordan inspiring many players (for better or for worse, and mostly for worse because MJ was such a complex player) to turn basketball into an isolation game. These are the results 11 years in of the rule changes made in the mid 2000s to open up the offense.

In one of my other leagues, I got Russell Wilson on the bye.  My choices this week: Geno Smith, Nick Foles, Johnny Manziel, Blaine Gabbert, Matt Cassel.

Ugh, this is gonna be rough.  Right now I have Foles, but I'm thinking of dropping him for Geno.

Don't do that. Fitzpatrick is starting this week.

  5. Utah Jazz are also a very young team with some really really good upcoming players. Gordon Hayward is probably the best Small Forward after Bron, KD, Melo, and he gives the latter a run for his money if he progresses once more this year.

Rudy Gobert is an absolute beast in the low post and he almost defended his team into the playoffs last season after the team went on a tear after the Enes Kanter trade promoted Gobert into the starting 5. He's crazy talented on defense and can get some highlight reel stuff on offense.

Derrick Favors, talented and strong bigman with a good postgame too, like Hayward has improved every year in the league.
Then there's Alec Burks who can score, and a few talented kids in Burke, Exum, Trey Lyles, and Hood.

Hayward is also well behind Leonard and George, and I'm also thinking Wiggins will be better than him.

I'm all on the Rudy Gobert bandwagon though.

    And the Derrick Favors bandwagon.

  6. I definitely disagree about the 95-96 Bulls. I understand about 72-10 and 15-3 in the playoffs and all, but that team is slightly overrated (next year's squad is better imo with Brian Williams addition). The 96 Sonics, another team who's record is slightly inflated due to expansion, gave the Bulls trouble overall. A goodish but not the best Knicks team also took a game from Chicago in the playoffs. LeBron could definitely take one.

I also disagree with the 2001 Lakers part. Iverson went bonkers in Game 1 to win in LA, so I think LeBron going bonkers is definitely one win.

The only teams I think LeBron struggles to get one win in is against a team like the 94 Rockets or 99 Spurs. LeBron getting through the middle with Hakeem or the Duncan-Robinson combo in there? And Hakeem and Duncan having their way with someone like Tristan Thompson? That feels like a more likely sweep.

  7. We need to really start looking at Stephen Curry here. He's the MVP of the league. As great as Dellavedova is playing D on him, he needs to torch him and the Cavs for 40+ points. This is the kinda thing everyone killed Dirk Nowitzki and even LeBron in the past for.

  8. From a pure basketball standpoint, the #4 for Rubio seems steep. I think Rubio is my favorite player in the league right now. It doesn't change that he's an extremely talented player with a flaw that kills his value (not unlike Rajon Rondo, at the moment). If Rubio can fix his shot, he suddenly becomes an elite PG.

I don't see the fit for the triangle perspective though. Playmaking PGs suffer in the triangle (see Jason Kidd during the first 22 games of the 96-97 season).

It's an interesting idea for a deal, I guess.

  9. Losing in the lottery isn't the end all for us. Plenty of talent can be had at the #4 pick in the draft. Jury is still out for last year's draft, but let's do a recap of the past here.

In 2013, #4 could have gotten you Nerlens Noel.

In 2012, #4 could have gotten you Damian Lillard or Andre Drummond

In 2011, #4 could have gotten you Jonas Valanciunas

In 2010, #4 could have gotten you Demarcus Cousins or Paul George

In 2009, #4 could have gotten you Stephen Curry

In 2008, #4 could have gotten you Russell Westbrook or Kevin Love

It's the #4 pick of the draft. Used wisely it can be a huge asset that we hopefully don't trade for someone like Greg Monroe.

  10. Except for the bit where they threw Wiggins from the pram to appease LeBron whilst all of their fans were busy jumping up and down telling us how Dion Waiters is an all-star calibre player and Love was only worth Waiters and Bennett and they held all the leverage.

I don't really care what happened to them after that, interacting with their fans during that trade was enough to sour me off them for life. Which took a bit since I felt bad for them when LeBron left and Irving was born in Australia and they have Delly.

Add in Gilbert crying about other teams forming super teams and how unfair it is, until LeBron came back and they can take it up the bum with a cactus for all I care. Especially since they have had 3 of the last 4 number one picks.

Just because you don't like them doesn't make them a superteam.
