  1. 3 team trade:

Rays get 3B Yandy Diaz and P Cole Susler

Indians gets Carlos Santana and 1B Jake Bauers

    Mariners get Edwin Encarnacion

As a Rays fan, I am saddened. I thought we DFA'ed CJ Cron to get more at bats for Bauers, who I thought would be a cornerstone for the franchise.

I'm not sure I like a 'league approved list' because who decides the criteria for that? It just courts controversy.

By reading the article, it looks like it will be a combination of a list created by the leagues Career Development Advisory Committee and a list created by the Fritz Pollard Alliance.

I am torn on it, too. No matter how they try to change/enhance/strengthen the rule, there will always be sham interviews.

  3. The league expanded the Rooney Rule, requiring teams to interview a minority candidate from a league approved list of coaches.

In years past, teams could grab the assistant strength coach for a 5 minute sham interview to circumvent the intent of the rule. Apparently, there was some controversy about the rule when the Raiders hired Gruden this year.

  4. Watched The Graduate for the first time last night. It was good, but certain things took my girlfriend and I out of the movie.

For instance, after going out with the daughter just once, and the first half of that date he made he cry, he declared he was going to marry her.

Then after the daughter hears (her mother's side of the story) that Dustin Hoffman raped her, the daughter declares her love for Hoffman. Then she says she might have already told another dude she would marry him.

Other than that, it was good. I wouldn't go out of my way to see it again. The soundtrack really added to the movie, even though they kept playing The Sound Of Silence and Mrs Robinson. The very end of the movie was really well done with Dustin and the daughter on the bus, looking away from each other as The Sound Of Silence plays.

Plus, it has Mr Feeny as Hoffmans dad.

  5. I wonder what will be next for Bortles.

A 1-2 year prove it deal to be an insurance policy

Or, if one of the teams that needs a QB (Giants, Redskins, possibly the Bucs, possibly Raiders) signs him to a deal to be the starter because the coach believes they can fix him

    Or, XFL

Really good article about how Ron Hextall micromanaged his way out of the GM job in Philly.....

His spies,  his wanting to control which doors were open and closed in the arena, season ticket perks, etc...

Apparently he shut out Flyers Alumni from the locker room during a charity game, which us odd, seeing as he is a Flyer alumni...

At some stage, surely the number of streaming services is going to hit a wall? How many people are going to pay for more than one just to see all these different things. Netflix, Amazon, Disney, Warner, Hulu...am I missing any? It's getting a bit much.

ESPN+ , HBO, FX, WWE, UFC

Eventually it will get to the point where your viewing will be A La Carte, the cable companies were just a decade behind. Once Netflix started up, they could saved themselves from all the cord cutters, by immediately lowering prices and offering a pay-per channel option. Now, it's becoming a pay-per catalog system.

I felt like CC's story had run its course and it was effective how he gradually became more peripheral as the season progressed. There's still plenty of conflict, I'm not even convinced the show needs a 'villain' in the way that CC represented going into the third season, there's plenty of inner conflict going on, plus the occasional brutal presence of the job carries an underlying threat.

Yeah, great stuff. Am I right in thinking there's gonna be a third and final season?

    Yep. Third and final season.

    15. Handsmaid Tale

  10. Watched Sorry To Bother You and The Man Who Invented Christmas yesterday.

Sorry To Bother You is very Black Mirror-Charlie Kaufmanesque. It's one of those movies that I have to be in a mood to watch, which I wasn't yesterday. I didn't know anything about it, but now knowing what its about, I will try to rewatch it later next week.

The Man Who Invented Christmas is exactly what its advertised as. One of those movies to make some hot chocolate and cuddle up with your love and zone out. In terms of "Watch as the author of a book gets his ideas", I rank it far behind Finding Neverland and Shakespeare In Love. Mind you, I haven't watched the Christopher Robin movie yet.
