  1. Hey there, EWB. It's been a while since I posted here but I figured I'd let the music forum know a bit about this North Carolina music blog I've started up recently. The site is called The Bottom String and as of today we just posted our first ever "Bottom String Session" with Daniel Hart of The Physics of Meaning. The blog posts updates on NC shows and artists giving album reviews, show reviews, interviews, exclusive performances, and much more. I figured this is a good way to promote a scene that may seem very important to those in North Carolina but may not be widely known by those outside of the state.

The blog can be found at http://thebottomstring.blogspot.com

I understand if mods wish to shut this thread down as it can be construed as advertising for myself, but I do wish to let you guys know a bit about the NC music scene seeing as there is quite a bit going on that not many know about.

  2. I finally got to see Biffy Clyro live on Wednesday and GOD DAMN. I liked their albums but their live show is something that needs to be seen by everyone. I was completely blown away with their intensity.

  3. If he wins, he'll realize that being top dog in Strikeforce is better for his career than being Anderson Silva's next victim, I'd wager.

He's been talking shit about GSP for while now, I reckon he will venture down to welterweight again if thathappens

GSP also said that Jake Shields was a dream fight of his a couple of months ago if I remember correctly. It's a fight I'd like to see, but Shields would probably be better off in Strikeforce. Either way I don't see him winning any of the "big fights" he could go into in UFC.

  4. Online is usually not the best way to go unless you know of somebody who consistently gets from that store and has never had shipping problems. I got one of my vinyls shipped to my with the spine bent to hell the corners were practically ripped. The best bet is to find a record store nearby and go there as often as you can. The nearest to me is 45 minutes away so I usually wait a month or so then make a trip to pick up a few.

  5. So, I'm booking a local music festival in my town for the third year in a row, this year it's a benefit for Haiti. Being a small and independently run festival we're trying to find bands of reasonable prices but still with great talent, which hopefully is where EWB comes in. The show will be in North Carolina, so does anybody have any good bands in the US that are more along a regional size?

  6. I just got into Jay Reatard last year and he came about 2 hours from here in December. A few friends and I were going to go see him but decided "Nah, we'll go next time he comes" and now we're all kicking ourselves for it.

    RIP Jay Reatard

  7. Sorry to threadbump but I just bought the game and the majority of the pictures that I installed aren't showing up for my fighters. I've got them under the right folder obviously because they're showing up for certain workers but not for others. Any idea?

  8. Dear EWB,

You know when I really pimp the everloving fuck out of a band and eventually you occasionally pay attention (mostly to get me to shut me up)...I really can't be arsed to keep cramming these guys down your throat, so let's make it easier on everyone and just pay attention now.

    Ignore the shitty name and download/buy;

"What It Takes To Move Forward" by Empire! Empire! (I Was A Lonely Estate)

Best album I've heard all year...like honestly, head and shoulders above anything.

    Cheers. :)

Those guys played a free show in my town on St. Patty's day and they fucking suck live. The lead singer can't sing in key at all. However all of their studio stuff is absolutely awesome. Too bad the live show didn't match the studio quality though

  9. Manchester Orchestra, Silversun Pickups, and Cage The Elephant in August.

Sunny Day Real Estate in October.

And I intend on Bonnaroo next year. The only reason I couldn't go this year is because it was on my graduation day :(

  10. Im not going to lie I shed a few tears when I heard about this. Not only was he one of the greatest artists of our generation but it also reminds me of the fact that I'm getting older, and in turn so is everyone around me. RIP Michael Jackson :(

  11. Needle In The Hay by Elliott Smith (Anything by Elliott Smith really. His songs all are very heartfelt and usually depressing)

I've Been Eating For You by Bright Eyes

    Asleep by The Smiths

Black Eyed Dog by Nick Drake

  12. So I figured I'd let everyone here know (I'm looking at you YI) that I just booked Andrew Jackson Jihad at my local music venue. The owner is one of my good friends so I asked the band to play and they just confirmed. I'm considering Pedals On Our Pirate Ships to try and open for them but I haven't contacted them yet. So just throwing out a thanks to YI because I wouldn't have heard either without him (Y)

  13. I saw it at midnight last night and loved it. I was skeptical going into it after hearing that they changed the ending but I feel like the new ending worked a lot better with the movie because it probably would have seemed a little absurd to those who didn't read the comic. One gripe I had was:

They shoved down your throat the fact that The Comedian was Silk II's father. It was almost subtle in the novel but they make a huge point of throwing that out there in the movie
  14. ME :@

Seriously though, been listening to shit loads of blink in the past few days. I'm so stoked.

Agreed. I've listened to so much Blink in the past few days it's insane. Last week I was doing the same, I'm just so excited.

  15. I've decided that I love the new Manchester Orchestra song after a 2nd listening. I've not listened to those bands yet though, I'll definitely check them out. You should check out All Get Out, they're a band signed to Manchester Orchestra's label and they've got an amazing live show. I've seen them 4 times already. Their EP's don't do them justice so check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhhdYdVhUvc. Part Two is the title deemed from the fans but the guitarist told me the song wasn't really titled yet.

  16. I had a fucking basketball game on instead of Scrubs so now I have to find a way to watch it. I hate that I came into this thread and saw about Ed though :(
