  1. well ive basically tried kerrang, Q, NME, RockSound and tried alternative press when i was in new york and they all annoyed me in the same way radio does.

i just realized that, beyond the actual music, i couldn't give a fuck about any other aspect of the band (new singles, music videos, some pretentious gits 'review' or the fact they nearly died of a OD at 14 and decided to make music to help their single parents).

    death cab is an exception

  2. I've been trying to whore out Gaslight Anthem to my "group" for the past 6 or so months now and they've refused to listen to them. I asked them to go see Gaslight with me at Warped, they refused. Then they're in some magazine and now they love them.

    Fuck that

basically my entire life at school. i remember buying linkin park - hybrid theory. loving it. 6 months of "hey listen to this". nothing. then they love them.

pretty much happened with any pop-punk band that came later - sum 41, good charlotte, fall out boy (yes, looking back the list of shitty names in that list is endless..)

and i fucking hate kerrang, especially the tv channel, where its the same 5 bands on a constant loop.

...come to think of it i think i hate all music magazines full stop.

  3. DCFC are back before the years end;

    14.11.08 - Edinburgh

    15.11.08 - Nottingham

    16.11.08 - Bristol

    17.11.08 - Sheffield

    19.11.08 - London

They're in Edinburgh for my 18th birthday. A night could be made of that if someone else is prepared to buy my ticket. >_>

son of a bitch. no where near me :(

  4. Possibly nothing, but i read an article somewhere about a man named jeremy bentham (in the real world), who when he died said he wanted to become some sort of wax figure.

thought it was weird since locked looked quite waxy in that last scene.

    edit> wiki link - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremy_Bentham

As requested in his will, his body was preserved and stored in a wooden cabinet, termed his "Auto-icon". Originally kept by his disciple Dr. Southwood Smith,[12] it was acquired by University College London in 1850. The Auto-icon is kept on public display at the end of the South Cloisters in the main building of the College. For the 100th and 150th anniversaries of the college, the Auto-icon was brought to the meeting of the College Council, where he was listed as "present but not voting".[13] Tradition holds that if the council's vote on any motion is tied, the auto-icon always breaks the tie by voting in favour of the motion.

The Auto-icon has always had a wax head, as Bentham's head was badly damaged in the preservation process. The real head was displayed in the same case for many years, but became the target of repeated student pranks including being stolen on more than one occasion. It is now locked away securely.

There is a plaque on Queen Anne's Gate, Westminster commemorating the house where Bentham lived, which at the time was called Queen's Square Place.

  5. etymotic research er6-i or something, had them, blocks outside noise the same way ear plugs do, so their compact. can also take a lot of abuse (as mine did). eventually broke when they went through the wash...and even then one side still worked. :)

my gf has sennheiser, but the thing comes with a giant brick to do the noise cancelling crap. ass

  6. what an absoloute clusterfuck of an awards show. The nominations are all pretty much the same whichever category. Add to that the fact some of those bands haven't released anything in literally years:

    My chemical romance

Kill hannah (as far as i know?)

    lost prophets

Its just really shit that the same bands get the same nominations every year regardless of what they release or when.

Their last album got rejigged and released in Britain for the first time a couple of months back. But newcomer seems a bizzare award to give to them.

    I hate Kerrang.

i see! because i'd heard it aaaaages ago and was suprised to hear it being constantly played all of a sudden 2 years later. newcomer is a bti stupid actually since they have 2 albums out.

  8. I love the girl in Styro...also, at the other shows, how she was doing the harmony in "After Sunset", in the last chorus did she go up high on it? As she did it at London, and it was AMAZING

Yes!, she did that in manchester as well. I thought the guitar solos he did were awesome.

On a completley different note, has anyone heard of "Connor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band" ? apparantley its his solo project, which i don't understand because i thought he was the only member in bright eyes? >_<

  9. *shakes fist at birmingham for stealing marching bands!*

I didn't feel the apollo crowed were like that at all. They cheered for every single song, although there was definatley a difference in cheers between the popular songs and the photoalbum/facts songs. One complaint was the people getting up mid song to go get drinks etc. It was incredibly annoying and it was always the people in the center of the row who wanted to leave, so everyone had to get up.

During one styrofoam song, 2 people arrived mid song, made the entire row get up to access the center seats, realized it wasnt the right row, and left. I was so mad.

A couple also left before the encore. They deserved a smack.

The fuck, you were sitting? At a gig? Get the fuck out of my sight.

    :w00t: i know i know.

It was kind of nice. I don't dance to anything so meh, i had a perfectly good view and didn't have to stand around for hours.

  11. Hello, guys. Saw death cab and styrofoam at the apollo last night. And it was friggin awesome! I actually quite liked styrofoam, it soudned better live than the cd. There were some awesome guitar solos but yeah, no movement and i dont think many in the crowd knew them, the seated area was almost empty throughout..

Styrofoam setlist of what i could remember (NO COUCHES IN ALLEYS!! <_< ):

    After Sunset

    Microscope

    Final Offer

(the song before final offer on the album)

    Other Side of town

(a really long song, about 6 minutes, probably off their old album because i didnt know it but sounded good)

Had a 30 minute wait before death cab, who were absoloutley awesome. There was a middle bit where people started to lose interest (movie script / company calls / epilouge)but i enjoyed it and it kicked off again from soul meets body, right on through to the end. Some nice suprises - 405 as an encore, i wasn't expecting grapevine fires either.

Compared to what was said about the birmingham show, the crowd were awesome. Constant cheers, clapping, everyone singing along to I will follow you into the dark. Most of the seated area (me included) gave them a standing ovation at the end. On top of that - i saw seniors (over 30's at least, some older than 40). Yeah i saw a few young girls around, but in general i felt the crowd were much older.

    Setlist:

    Bixby Canyon Bridge (simply awesome!)

    The New Year

Why You'd Want To Live Here

    Crooked Teeth

Long Division (didn't like the cd version, but live its incredible!)

    Grapevine Fires

    A Movie Script Ending

    Company Calls

    Company Calls Epilogue

    Soul Meets Body

I Will Follow You Into The Dark

I Will Possess Your Heart (the most atmospheric song of the night)

    Cath...

    No Sunlight

    Expo '86 (dedicated to Styrofoam)

    The Sound of Settling

    Encore:

Title and Registration (Ben crouches six feet from the crowd)

    405 (which transitioned nicely into...)

Your Heart Is An Empty Room

    Tiny Vessels

    Transatlanticism

Very dissapointed at the lack of marching bands of manhattan! :crying:

After the show me and my girlfriend went to the side of the building to catch the band leaving but after an hour in the rain gave up and did the 2 hour drive back home. Definatley enjoyed it and apparantley their coming back in november.

I'll also have photos/videos by tonight.

  12. yep 3 different gigs. im flying to new york on monday and YI posted some shows that are on. Death cab are actually in brooklyn on the tuesday and its sold out, otherwise i'd be getting an extra death cab fix

Is Rooney sold out? If you can get to it...go...seriously. Fucking amazing band (Well their debut especially).

Rooney would be on our last night in new york and it might be worthwhile going. Not sold out and their playing deep in manhattan (which basically as long as its in manahattan its do-able).

Neither me or my gf are rooney fans, (though i do like im SH-SH-SHAAAKING :w00t:)

    Wait and see. lol

  13. You got seating tickets when there was a choice of standing? Puff. :shifty:

:w00t: yarr, im not usually the standing around / dance to the music type of guy. so no point i guess.

Also, not sure if you guys knew this but it seems (according to last fm) that the support for DCFC will be your beloved Styrofoam. Think i might check out a few of their stuff before i go (i hate not knowing the songs at live shows)

  14. I'm seeing Death Cab in Birmingham, my mate's bought tickets :w00t:

I don't care enough about Death By stereo to be concerned about a clash.

Seeing them in manchester :w00t: . Got seating tickets although they havent been sent yet and i got them the day they came on sale.

  15. Hai,

I'm flying to new york on monday and should be arriving around lunch time, and i'll be there until the following monday, flying at night, so i have a full 7 days to fill.

The one thing i can't seem to find are any live music shows, the websites only seem to promote whatever thats on at the garden or other big buildings. Does anyone know of any good bands to see while im there next week? im into mostly indie/rock music, or any websites to browse.

also, any spots i should see? (apart from the obvious tourist spots)

    Thanks
