You'll be pretty hard pushed to find a follower of Scottish football, that isn't a Rangers or Celtic fan, who doesn't despise, or at least dislike, the Old Firm.

My brother is a Hearts fan, and I hope they make 2nd (not least because it'll be a change to see a non Glasgow based team flop in the Champion's League) because next year will be extra tough for Hearts, as all signs seem to point to Rangers making some big money available to Le Guen, and they have already been linked with some big names, and Celtic will strengthen too.

The biggest problem for Hearts is that they won't go for a strong manager, just another Romanov yes man.

Don't Gretna go into Europe even if Hearts finish 3rd? Hearts would get a UEFA Cup place in 3rd, so wouldn't need the UEFA Cup place from winning the Scottish Cup (if they win the cup of course), and that would go to Gretna?

And even if not that, wouldn't they get an Intertoto Cup place? Someone explain it for me.

Maybe it is sour grapes, but I think comp cheats the 2nd or 3rd season....it always seems to be rough for me, no matter who I do or don't buy.....bastard thing.

You tend to find the first couple of months of the season and the last couple throw up more surprise results. I reckon from October to February/March is the best time for betting. That's when nothing is settled yet, most teams have got going and the pressure isn't on.

Considering how well Gretna have done to make it to the cup final whichever team they face will need to be careful not to underestimate them or we might have the most shocking cup final result since Hearts beat Rangers

Even in days of old, players used to clip their own heels together to wins penalties, so it's not a new phenomenon. It's just more prevalent because there are cameras at every game showing things from eleventy-billion different angles.

As a player myself I despise diving, and it's frowned upon big time in the amateur game. It fits below spitting and the waving of imaginery cards in my "Things guaranteed to piss me off when I'm playing football" list, but I imagine I'd get sent off if somebody won a penalty for diving against me because I'd be likely to kick the culprit while he was rolling about. I would easily justify it by telling the ref "If he's going to get a penalty anyway it might as well be for that!"

I like Wenger's idea that a panel sits and can award cautions using video evidence, even after the game is finished, although I wouldn't book those found guilty - I'd suspend the cheating bastards.

I remember they were mentioning big names for both the Head Coach's job and the Director of Football job (Nevio Scala, Philippe Troussier, Sir Bobby Robby, Ruud Gullit) and in the end they hired Rix as Head Coach and, eventually, Jim Duffy as Director of Football. Expect 2 more yes men nobodies to come in then.

Vladimir Romanov could give me the job on a decent wage, do everything himself and then sack me with a hefty payoff in a few months - I wouldn't mind letting him pick the team, transfers etc.

Codemasters released a load of club specific football games. I bought the Liverpool FC version for the PS2, played half a match and that was that - dreadful game.

Not sure if Tenchu counts, as the storyline basically centres around ninjas doing missions for their Lord, but it's good too.

That quote is all well and good, but Liverpool won't win anything for a while until they sort that out.

Eh, arguable. Valencia didn't have a 20-a goal season striker, and yet they still won La Liga. Their goals came from all over the pitch, and you can see Benitez trying to do the same. Oh, and we won the champions league without a 'goalscorer'.

So you haven't seen him since a few years ago? At Celtic they brought him in and then followed the loan with some strikers, Pardew told him he'd use him at Westham too, they should of scouted him properly before they decided to take them as that wasn't the purpose of the loan.

He didn't get a chance at Celtic or Westham, he was just really unlucky with his two loan spells because the teams took him on and never used him, as he's said he wish he'd of stayed with the reserves where he could of at least trained with Arsenal players.

Before his injury he was a good player, how he is now, I don't know.

Aliadiere could of been good (and I guess he still could improve) if he'd bulked up, but then he had his long injury and I guess he just spent his time recovering other than that he's too much of a fairy on the ball.

Also, to those who champion the argument, where do you draw the line on foreign involvement? Should a foreigner be able to own a club, or to manage one? Should a foreign coach be in charge of England if the foreign influence is so damaging to our cause?

If England was producing good enough English players they'd be playing in English teams. It's as much the job of everyone at grass roots level as it is of a club like Arsenal to develop players, but Arsenal are under no obligation to make sure the talent that they develop is English. Development of English players would be the jurisdiction of the FA and possibly the government.

Also, you Goonerbury boys might like this quote from Wenger: "When Alan Pardew calls me at the beginning of the season and asks for Jeremie Aliadiere on loan, he doesn't check if he's English or not - he just checks if he's good or not. It's just painful."

Personally I think that sounds like a lie from Wenger, because if Pardew had checked whether Aliadiere was good or not he wouldn't have signed him.
