Royal Rumble 1996

January 21, 1996

Fresno, California

Fresno Convention Center

Announcers: Vince McMahon & Mr. Perfect

For some reason, the PPV broadcast opens with Sunny taking a bubble bath, warning us of the graphic content we're about to see. This was the first WWF PPV to feature such a warning, and I always wondered why. But hey, it's Sunny in a tub, so I'm not complaining.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ahmed Johnson vs. Jeff Jarrett

This is Jarrett's second stint in the WWF, as he returned at December's In Your House to start a feud with the popular Ahmed Johnson. You'd think a feud like that would only help both men, but for some reason it kind of hindered Ahmed's momentum a bit, and ended up leaving Jarrett just as unhappy as he was at the end of his first WWF stay. Jarrett tries to carry him to a good match here, and does a decent job considering Ahmed's utter uselessness. Jeff dumps him and hits a sweet clothesline off the apron, followed by a ropesplash and the strut back in the ring. Ahmed starts hulking up (well, more like Warrioring up anyway) and spinebusters him. Jeff bails and Johnson follows with an over the top rope dive (with no hands!) on top of him. Wow, I take back the uselessness comment. Back in, Ahmed tries a shooting star press(!) but misses. Jarrett gets the Figure Four, but Ahmed reverses. Jarrett goes for it again, but Johnson boots him to the floor. Jeff grabs his guitar, goes to the top rope and smacks it over Ahmed's head in plain view of the ref to draw the DQ at 6:38. That was a dumb finish that did nothing for either guy especially in the supposed blowoff for a hot feud. **1/4 Both would have been better suited to have been used as credible threats in the Rumble instead.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Smoking Gunns talk to a camera and Billy guts a good promo. I'm serious!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Todd Pettengill chats with Diesel, who cuts a babyface promo and says he'll win the Royal Rumble tonight.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tag Team Titles: The Smoking Gunns (Champions) vs. The Bodydonnas

Billy and Skip do a lightning quick sequence to start. Zip comes in to double team the cowboy, causing Bart to get involved and slingshot both over the top rope to the floor. Billy hits a plancha on both challengers. Back in, the Gunns do a Hart Attack and Sunny gets on the apron only to get accidentally knocked off by Billy. Billy, gullable babyface, goes to check on her, and the Donnas double team him. Skip hits a plancha. Inside, they do a double flapjack but a complex triple collision spot leads to Bart receiving the hot tag. The Gunns hit the Sidewinder on Zip, but Sunny distracts the ref and Skip hits a forearm off the top rope, then pulls the old switcheroo and trades places with his partner. He covers, but only gets two. The Donnas go for a double suplex on Bart, but Billy spears one of them and Bart small packages the other for the three count at 11:13 to retain. Great little old school tag match. ***1/4 I'm sure we can thank good old Dr. Tom for putting that one together.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A Billionaire Ted's Wrasslin' War Room skit is shown. These were hilarious parodies of WCW that really poked fun at the fact that all their top talent consisted of old, washed-up ex-WWF stars. In this particular scene with Billionaire Ted, The Huckster, The Nacho Man, and Scheme Gene, Vince Russo plays an annonymous writer and Turner stooge. These skits all culminated with The Huckster wrestling The Nacho Man at the Free For All before Wrestlemania XII, a match which I sadly don't have on tape.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A Goldust/Razor Ramon package is shown. Goldust, seemingly infatuated with Razor, played mind games with him for weeks, playing off Razor's self-labeled tough guy image. This was really intriguing television and pretty much defined the ahead of its time Goldust character.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Razor Ramon mentions an interesting fact that I'd always noticed too; this is his fourth Royal Rumble, but he never made it into the Rumble match because he was always involved in a Title match earlier in the card instead.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Intercontinental Title: Razor Ramon (Champion) vs. Goldust

Goldust enters with a woman. The next night we would find out her name is Marlena. You probably know her better today as Terri. She assumes a seat in her director's chair, and watches the match while occupying herself with a cigar the whole time. Goldust acts about as gay as he usually does, so the homophobic Ramon takes it to him. Razor tries to ignore his advances and wrestles him, but Goldie feels him up on a go behind, and Razor gets the hell out of there. More mind games follow, so Razor slaps him. Goldust bails and hides behind his valet, then rolls into the ring where they do a cool headlock/headscissors sequence. Goldust bails and again hides behind the woman. He blows Razor a kiss as a mild "boring" chant starts. Razor moves the woman out of the way and Goldust jumps him as he does. Goldust works his back and hits the corner bulldog back in the ring. A slingshot back suplex gets two, but Razor comes back with a fallaway slam for a two count of his own. The back suplex off the top gets two for Razor, but the woman distracts the referee as the 1-2-3 Kid, Razor's rival, runs out of the crowd. The Kid hops up onto the top rope and roundhouse kicks Ramon off the top. Goldust covers him and the ref counts three to give Goldust the Intercontinental Championship at 14:17. *1/2 The match worked well with the storyline, but was slow at times because of it. Goldust tongues his woman, proving that he's not gay after all and just psyched out Ramon to take his IC Title away from him. That's why Goldust ruled. He capitalized on everyone's homophobia and used it to his advantage to better his career. Good times.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Royal Rumble comments from Owen Hart, Jake "The Snake" Roberts, Jerry "The King" Lawler, Barry Horowitz, Vader & Jim Cornette, and Shawn Michaels are aired.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Royal Rumble Match

On the Free For All show on the Prevue Channel, Duke "The Dumpster" Droese and Hunter Hearst Helmsley wrestled with the stipulation that the winner would get #30 in the Rumble and the loser would get stuck with #1. Hunter pinned Droese, but did so with the help of a foreign object, so President Gorilla Monsoon called him on it and disqualified him. That means Helmsley is #1 and #2 happens to be… his old foe, Henry Godwinn. Feel the excitement. This year the intervals are a legitimate two minutes apart, proving that someone learned from 1995's accelerated Rumble. #3 is Bob Backlund. I'll let you know when something interesting happens. #4 is Jerry "The King" Lawler. The King swipes HOG's slop and tries to get him with it, but Godwinn reclaims the bucket and ends up slopping Lawler instead. What irony. Thankfully, Perfect makes a Gallagher reference to save the segment. #5 is Bob Holly and #6 is King Mabel. #7 is Jake Roberts, who releases his snake into the ring to send everyone running, but Lawler has his back turned and Jake covers him with the snake. Everyone comes back in once the snake is gone, but the King is nowhere to be found, though he wasn't eliminated. #8 is Dory Funk. Lawler is shown peeking out from underneath the ring to end that little mystery rather quickly. #9 is Yokozuna, who quickly eliminates Backlund. Mabel sandwiches Godwinn between the corner and Yoko. That'll take the wind out of anyone. #10 is the 1-2-3 Kid. Razor Ramon follows him out and chases him until officials come out and escort him to the back. #11 is some Japanese guy named Takao Omori, with- you guessed it- the Orient Express music. Savio Vega is #12, as Perfect gets all Heenanish and comments on the virtues of money. Yokozuna eliminates Mabel and Jake rids us of the Japanese guy.

Vader makes his WWF debut next at #13, a number perhaps foreshadowing his unsuccessful WWF tenure. Savio gets the honor of dumping Dory Funk. Vader pummels Vega, and Mr. Perfect declares that Savio is on Rubber Leg Street. Is that anywhere near Dream Street? #14 is Doug Gilbert, who gets murdered by Hunter. Perfect reminisces about his days tagging with Eddie Gilbert, and mentions that Doug won a tournament in Memphis to earn this slot in the Rumble. Jake DDT's Savio, but is eliminated by Vader. A Samoan Swat Team member is #15. Just when you thought the crowd couldn't get anymore apathetic, here we are. If you don't recognize some of these names, don't worry. They were brought in only to participate in the Rumble. Vader press slams Gilbert out, then eliminates the Swat Team guy. Vader and Yoko, both under the tutalage of Cornette, slug it out. The other Swat Team member is #16, so they both get in the ring. Vader immediately tosses one and Yoko handles the other. #17 is Owen Hart. Yoko and Vader squash Savio. #18 is defending Rumble Champion Shawn Michaels. He wakes the crowd up quite a bit. Vader eliminates Vega. Shawn nails the Kid, then Hunter, then goes for Owen, the guy who put him out of wrestling back in November. Yoko and Vader slug it out again and this time Shawn manages to use their momentum to dump both of them over the top rope to the floor. Yoko heads back to the locker room and Vader nails him from behind. Hakushi is #19. Vader gets back into the ring and roughs up Shawn. He press slams him over the top to the floor, and also eliminates Owen, Hunter, and Holly. Gorilla Monsoon eventually comes down with several officials to get him out of there, and Michaels, Hart, Helmsley, and Holly are allowed to get back in the ring since they were eliminated by someone who had already been eliminated.

#20 is Tatanka, two years after the last time he was over. Owen dumps Hakushi in the corner. Aldo Montoya is #21. Perfect: "He's got his jock on the wrong part of his body!" Shawn goes through the ropes and goes under the ring to pull Lawler out. Shawn punches him, rolls him in, then eliminates him. #22 is Diesel, who nails Helmsley, eliminates Tatanka, then starts to work on Owen. He bumps into Shawn and nails him, so Michaels returns the favor. They go their separate ways and later Diesel actually ends up saving Shawn from elimination. That would prove to be a pretty big mistake. #23 is Kama. Zero heat for him. #24 is "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, making his WWF PPV debut. He clips Holly as Perfect really sings his praises. Austin punches Diesel and eliminates Holly with a high knee to the back. Holly lasted nearly forty minutes. Impressive. #25 is Barry Horowitz, as Owen Hart, near elimination, skins the cat back into the ring. Diesel eliminates Hunter Hearst Helmsley after nearly forty-eight minutes in there. Very impressive. #26 is Fatu. Austin and Diesel slug it out. Shawn and Owen fight near the ropes. #27 is Isaac Yankem, D.D.S. Owen tosses Horowitz and enziguris Shawn, as I note that current stars Rikishi, Kane, Steve Austin, and The Godfather are in the ring, all long before anyone cared about them. Michaels kips up and eliminates Owen. Austin clotheslines Shawn and mocks his little pose, so Diesel clocks him in the face. Marty Jannetty is #28. The big guys beat him up. Fatu superkicks Yankem. Shawn and Marty go at it for old time's sake and knock each other down. #29 is The British Bulldog, who dumps Marty and goes for Shawn. Fatu clotheslines Austin out and stops to contemplate whether he should take the opportunity to run him over with a car or not. The hesitation allows Yankem to dump Fatu. Shawn and Davey Boy go through the ropes and brawl on the floor, where Owen jumps Shawn. Shawn recovers and gets back in the ring to dropkick Yankem out. Kama and Diesel eliminate Droese, making the final four Kama, Diesel, Davey Boy Smith, and Shawn Michaels. Shawn clotheslines the Bulldog out and Kama tries to get rid of Shawn, but Michaels skins the cat back in. Meanwhile, on the other side of the ring, Diesel dumps Kama but turns around right into a Shawn superkick that sends him over the top rope to the floor at 58:44. The pop is deafening, as Shawn Michaels wins the Royal Rumble for the second year in a row. Shawn Michaels is going to Wrestlemania XII for a shot at the WWF Championship. Diesel, dejected, hangs around ringside while Shawn celebrates. He gives his buddy a high five, but he's still clearly upset with himself for dropping the ball. Pretty underwhelming Rumble. **1/4

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WWF Title: Bret "Hitman" Hart (Champion) vs. The Undertaker

The Undertaker was shafted out of WWF Title shots for years simply because his character wasn't concerned about the Title, and this was hyped as his first real big shot at the Championship since his brief run with it in 1991. He enters first and crosses paths with Diesel, who's still on his way back to the locker room. They engage in a short brawl, as officials quickly get Diesel to the back so the Undertaker can get into the ring to wait for Bret Hart. Vince mentions that this is the Hitman's 43rd PPV appearance. This is the first high profile meeting between these two long time WWF mainstays. The Undertaker starts out aggressive, wearing Bret down with clawhold after clawhold. Bret finally shows signs of life about six minutes in and clotheslines him to the floor, then follows up with a pescado. Taker drives his back into the post, but Bret whips Taker into the steel steps and starts the long process of working the knee. Bret goes to the Figure Four about twelve minutes in, but Taker eventually reverses and gets to the ropes. Bret now grapevines the leg for a bit while the crowd, desperately in search of something to cheer for, gets a "Rest In Peace" chant going. Taker fights out and chokes Bret out with a wire at ringside while Paul Bearer distracts the referee. The fans get on him for that, but Taker doesn't relent, tossing Bret into the timekeeper's table and nailing him with a steel chair. It all proves to have no effect, however, as he goes for a big boot back inside the ring, and Bret casually ducks it and goes back to the knee again.

Taker leg drops him and clotheslines him, but Bret scores a DDT and rolls over onto him for a two count. The side russian leg sweep only gets two, and The Undertaker sits up. Bret with a bulldog, but Taker sits up from that too. He can't put him away. Perfect suggests a Perfect-Plex. Bret hits the backbreaker and the elbow off the second rope, then goes for the Sharpshooter, but Taker blocks it. They put each other down with a double clothesline. Bret gets to his feet first and undoes the turnbuckle pad in the corner. Bret pries The Undertaker's goofy facemask off and drives his face into the exposed buckle, but Taker hits the Tombstone Piledriver out of nowhere and covers. Referee Earl Hebner gets in position to count, but Diesel runs out and pulls him out of the ring. Hebner calls for the bell at 28:29 and awards the match to the Undertaker via DQ as a result. Diesel smirks at the decision and gives the finger to the Undertaker. Whoa! Every seventh grader around the world creamed themselves over that one. As for the match, it dragged quite a bit and would have been much better had ten minutes been shaved off. It was hard to sit through at the start, but built pretty well and the last eight minutes or so were really hot. **1/4 The outcome set up Diesel vs. The Undertaker for Wrestlemania, as well as Royal Rumble winner and #1 contender Shawn Michaels vs. WWF Champion Bret Hart.

MONDAY NIGHT RAW - 22nd January 1996

Raw opened up this week with a video highlighting the impressive Royal Rumble victory by Shawn Michaels in which he outlasted 6 other men. As we start off Raw, Vince McMahon is in the ring

Vince: Ladies and gentlemen, the Heart Break Kid Shawn Michaels

And with that Shawn Michaels makes his way to the ring to a huge ovation with Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler putting over what a fantastic achievement to win back to back Royal Rumbles. Michaels climbed into the ring and posed on all four turnbuckles for the crowd

Vince: Shawn, let me be the first to say congratulations on last night

Michaels: Well thank you Vinny Mac

Vince: So the match is set Shawn, at Wrestlemania XII you will main event the biggest Pay Per View of all time when you take on the WWF Champion whomever that may be. Your thoughts on the biggest match of your career

Michaels: You know it’s funny. When I won the Royal Rumble last year, no-one give me half a chance of winning at Wrestlemania. This year it’s different. People think that I finally can realise my dream and lift the WWF World Title

Vince: And what are your thoughts on the naming of the number one contender tonight?

Michaels: Either way to Shawn Michaels, it doesn’t matter. You could pick anyone out of the back and whether they beat Bret Hart at In Your House or lose to Bret Hart at In Your House, the fact is their will be a new champion at Wrestlemania

Shawn Michaels is interrupted by a familiar beat of music as ‘The King of Hearts’ Owen Hart makes his way to the ring. Owen climbs into and poses on the turnbuckles, this time to huge boo’s

Vince: Owen Hart, can I ask what you are doing out here?

Owen: What am I doing out here? I’ll tell you what I’m doing. I’m sick of this. I’m sick of this crap. All this fanfare over Shawn Michaels winning the Royal Rumble. I’m sick of it Vince. We all know that Shawn Michaels don’t belong in the main event of Wrestlemania and that I do

Michaels: Well if it isn’t Owen Hart? You think that you should be going to Wrestlemania to face the champion?

Owen: Your damn right I do

Michaels: Well maybe you shouldn’t have gotten eliminated by the man who went on to win it last night

The crowd pops as Owen fumes at Michaels jibe

Michaels: And the only way that you will be in the main event of Wrestlemania XII is if Gorilla Monsoon names you as the number one contender for the title at In Your House, and then you manage to beat your brother Bret

Owen: That’s where your wrong Shawn. I don’t care if I am the number one contender or not, because I am challenging you to a match at In Your House.

Michaels: Me and you at In Your House VI?

Owen: Your damn right Shawn and when I finish with you then there is no way that you’ll even be able to compete at Wrestlemania. I plan on finishing what I started a few weeks ago when I made you black out with the enzurghi Shawn. I plan on finishing your career

Michaels: You’re on Owen but you will be nothing more than a stepping stone on the road to Wrestlemania for the Heart Break Kid

Shawn Michaels music plays as he leaves the ring to a huge ovation from the crowd

A commercial for In Your House VI plays before we go to our first match of the evening where Kama is already in the ring. The beat of Ahmed Johnson’s music plays as ‘The Peoples Champ’ makes his way out to the ring to a great pop

Ahmed Johnson Vs Kama

Ahmed and Kama slugged it out straight away with Kama gaining the advantage, backing Ahmed into the corner and pounding away. Ahmed turned it around though and returned the favour, causing Kama to fall to the mat. Ahmed lifted Kama up and hit him with a suplex as JR pointed out that Kama made it into the final four in last nights Royal Rumble. Ahmed continues to smack Kama around the ring before drilling him with a huge powerslam, but the cover only gets two from the referee. Ahmed argues which allows Kama to come back into it with some offence. Kama plants Ahmed down with a big clothesline and puts some boots in. Kama began getting cocky and slapping Ahmed, but he took a tackle for his trouble. Ahmed got back to his feet and lifted Kama up, only to plant him straight down to the mat with a Pearl River Plunge for the 3 count

Winner: Ahmed Johnson

As Ahmed got his arms raised in victory, Jeff Jarrett ran in to the ring and drilled his guitar over the head of Ahmed. Ahmed collapsed down to the mat as Jeff Jarrett strutted around to the ring as we go to a commercial break

We come back where Jeff Jarrett is walking backstage before Todd Pettingal catches up with him

Todd: Double J, what caused you to assault Ahmed Johnson from behind with the guitar straight after he went through a hard fought match with Kama?

Jarrett: Todd Pettingal, for weeks I’ve put up with Ahmed Johnson saying a load of crap about how he is undefeated, how he is the peoples champ and how he is the future of the industry. Well to hell with that. You want your future; look no further than Double J.

Todd: Are you concerned about Ahmed coming looking for you?

Jarrett: If Ahmed Johnson has any brains then he will stay as far away from me as he possibly can. Oh, and speaking of brains, if Gorilla Monsoon is watching then he surely knows that there is only one man he can pick to be the number one contender for Bret Hart and that’s me, Jeff Jarrett

Jarrett walks off as we come back to the arena where The 1-2-3 Kid is making his way out to huge boo’s from the crowd. The Kid gets into the ring and grabs a microphone

Kid: Now I am only here to ask for a few minutes of your time and to say something to Gorilla Monsoon. Now Gorilla, I know that you are naming your number one contender tonight and I think that you have only one option. You see last night in the Royal Rumble match I was attacked by a non participant in the Royal Rumble and then was later eliminated by Shawn Michaels. Now, the assault by that greasy street thug Razor Ramon weakened me up so therefore I was not in a clear state to wrestle. This I believe cost me my right to go on to Wrestlemania and receive my title shot so I am asking you Gorilla Monsoon to do the right thing and make me the number one contender

The Cuban Beats begin playing as Razor Ramon comes running down to the ring. He slides in but The Kid leaps over the top rope and runs through the crowd with Razor giving chase.

We go to Vince McMahon, Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler who go through their highlights of last nights card, including Goldust winning the Intercontinental title, Hunter Hearst Helmsley’s performance in the Rumble and Diesel interfering in the main event. They are interrupted by the music of Steve Austin as he makes his way out to the ring along with Ted Dibease. His opponent is introduced as Scott Vick

Steve Austin Vs Scott Vick

Austin was relentless in this match as he beat Vick around the ring like a rag doll. Austin lifted Vick up and booted him in the middle section before dropping him with a move that Vince McMahon called a ‘Stunner’. Austin made the cover but at 2 he lifted Vick off the mat. Austin quickly applied the Million Dollar Dream as Vick struggled, but the referee stopped the match as Vick passed out

Winner: Steve Austin

Austin refused to release the hold until Ted Dibease eventually came in and pulled Austin off Vick. Dibease raised Austin’s hand in victory as we go to a commercial break

In the back, Camp Cornette are gathered in the locker room area

Cornette: Now tonight Gorilla Monsoon makes the only decision he can make and names one member of Camp Cornette the new number one contender. Now we know that it isn’t going to be Owen, as he will beat Shawn Michaels at In Your House but that means that Gorilla Monsoon will either name British Bulldog, Vader or Yokozuna as the number one contender. Now as for you two

Vader and Yokozuna are staring each other down following their brawl last night

Cornette: You two can shake hands and forget about last night

Vader puts his hand out first and Yokozuna hesitantly accepts but the two men continue to stare the other down

Back in the ring we see The Body Donnas making their way down to the ring along with Sunny. Sunny gets a decent reception whilst Zip and Skip are basically ignored. The crowd pop louder as Henry and Phineas Godwinn make their way out. Henry and Phineas get to ringside and Henry threatens Lawler with the slob, causing Lawler to hide between JR

The Godwinns Vs The Body Donnas

A decent tag team match which went back and forth between the two teams. The Donnas got the advantage though as they managed to double team Phineas. Every time Phineas would get closer to Henry, Zip or Skip would distract the referee to divert him from the tag, or Phineas would get dragged back to the centre of the ring. Zip and Skip hit a double elbow drop to Phineas but the cover only scored 2. Zip then missed a leg drop allowing Phineas to tag out to Henry who came in like a house on fire. Henry laid out both Donnas with rights and lefts, before planting Zip with a slop drop. The referee was too busy trying to get Sunny off the apron though, so he missed the count. Henry got up and gave Sunny a look of death, but from behind Jerry Lawler came in and nailed Henry in the head with his cow bell. Lawler pulled Zip over on top of Henry for the 3 count

Winners: The Body Donnas

Phineas slid into the ring but he was attacked by Skip, and Lawler got involved again by clotheslining Phineas out of the ring. Lawler then planted Henry with a piledriver before getting The Body Donnas to hold Henry open. Lawler then got the slop bucket and dropped it over the head of Henry.

We go to the back where Gorilla Monsoon is in his office. His announcement is next

Another video for In Your House is played before we go to a commercial break. We come back to the announce table where Jerry Lawler has retaken his seat alongside Vince McMahon and JR. JR calls Lawler’s assault on Henry ‘uncalled for’ and ‘sickening’ which Lawler just laughs off. We then get more hype for Gorilla Monsoon’s announcement

Back in his office, Gorilla Monsoon is sat behind a desk looking at a camera

Monsoon: As you know, I am here to announce the man who will face Bret Hart at In Your House VI. Now before I do, can I just express how delighted I am with the level of competition here in the World Wrestling Federation as the number of serious candidates for this title shot is brilliant. The Undertaker, who perhaps was seconds away from winning the title last night. British Bulldog is a man who went the wire and beat Bret Hart in a classic match at Summerslam in 92. Vader and Yokozuna are both threats to any title due to their size and power but the man I have chosen to face Bret Hart is Diesel. Now I realise that may not be the most popular decision but I believe it is the right one. This is due to Diesel being the runner up in last nights Royal Rumble and he never received a title shot after losing to Bret at the Survivor Series. I thank you for your time and I wish good luck to both Diesel and Bret Hart for their match at In Your House

JR and McMahon put over what a match that will be at In Your House before we are shown Goldust winning the Intercontinental Title last night against Razor Ramon. Bob Holly is in the ring for the next match as the arena turns gold for the entrance of the bizarre one. Goldust makes his way out along with his agent Marlena

Intercontinental Title Match

Goldust © Vs Bob Holly

Goldust stalks Holly before the bell before hitting him with an uppercut. Holly comes running back and puts Goldust in a headlock, which Goldust pushes him off into the ropes before hitting a dropkick. Goldust backed Holly into the corner and climbed the ropes, going for the 10 punch. At 9 Goldust began rubbing his chest but he took an atomic drop from ‘Sparky Plug’. Goldust goes down to his knees and he takes a clothesline from Holly. Holly waits for Goldust to get up before hitting a beautiful dropkick which only scores a 2 count. Bob Holly lifts Goldust up and sets him up for a Falcon Arrow. Goldust managed to jump behind though and he planted Goldust with a Curtain Call for the 3 count and a successful title defence

Winner: Goldust

Marlena got into the ring and raised Goldust hand in victory, before planting a big kiss on him. The two leave the ring to huge boo’s from the crowd

We cut to the locker room area where Duke Droese is putting to black bags into a garbage can but from behind came Hunter Hearst Helmsley with a forearm to the back of Droese’s head. Helmsley threw Droese into the wall before nailing him in the head with his trash can. Helmsley grabbed Droese by the hair and looked him in the face

Helmsley: Last night I’d have won that Royal Rumble if you never screwed me in the Free For All. I lasted nearly 50 minutes damnit. I was in the match longer than anybody else and I hold you responsible. It’s not over between me and you Droese. It is not over. Mark my words

Helmsley dropped Droese before kicking him in the ribs as we take our last commercial break

We come back to Lawler praising Helmsley for beating Droese up backstage but McMahon simply calls it a heinous assault. The sound of ‘Rule Britannia’ plays as British Bulldog makes his way out alongside Jim Cornette. Lawler said that Bulldog has been working out lately and wants to play a big part at Wrestlemania XII. As Bulldog prepares in the ring, the lights go off and the gongs sound, causing the arrival of ‘The Phenom’ The Undertaker

The Undertaker Vs British Bulldog

The Undertaker simply stares over the ring towards The Bulldog, who charges in with rights and lefts but they have no effect on The Undertaker who responds with a solid uppercut. Bulldog backs into the corner where Undertaker unloads with several rights and lefts into the ribs of the Bulldog. Davey Boy Smith goes down to the mat but the cover gets 2. Undertaker lifts British Bulldog up but takes a rake to the eyes and goes down to the mat. Bulldog begins his pressure and he hits a very impressive stalling vertical suplex where he has Undertaker in the vertical position for nearly 3 seconds. Bulldog drops Taker down but the cover receives only a 2. Davey Boy Smith then grabs The Undertaker and sets him up for a Running Powerslam. Taker pops out of the back of it and pushes Davey Boy Smith to the ropes. Bulldog bounces back and he goes straight into a chokeslam. The Undertaker signals for a tombstone but from behind comes Diesel. Diesel hits a big forearm shot to the back of the Undertaker and then drops him to the mat with a big boot as the referee calls for the bell

Winner by DQ: The Undertaker

Diesel continues to stomp away at The Undertaker before dropping him with a JackKnife. Bret Hart then comes running out to a huge ovation from the crowd. Bret ducked a clothesline from Diesel and sent him to the outside with a dropkick. Diesel backed up the aisle leaving Bret Hart in the ring, staring the number one contender down as JR and King closed the show

Raw Notes: Dark Matches, Superstars Taping, Sid, Ratings

At Raw last night there were 3 matches put on for the audience. The dark matches are usually an indication of superstars coming in, as well as entertainment for the crowd. The results of the dark matches were:

Adam Copeland D. Tatanka

Fatu D. Brooklyn Brawler

Sycho Sid D. Barry Windham

When Sid was introduced he got a huge pop and he looked in decent shape. I think he may be appearing on TV again soon.

Then there was the Superstars taping, the results are as following:

Jerry Lawler D. Aldo Montoya

The New Rockers D. Christian York and Joey Matthews

Jake Roberts D. Wolfie D

Owen Hart D. Donavon Morgan

Then after Raw went off the air, Shawn Michaels defeated Yokozuna in a one on one match, before superkicking Owen Hart and Jim Cornette.

The results from the Raw matches (with ratings out of 10) were:

Ahmed Johnson D. Kama - (7.8/10)

Steve Austin D. Scott Vick - (6/10)

The Body Donnas D. The Smoking Gunns - (7.9/10)

Goldust D. Bob Holly - (7.9/10)

Undertaker D. British Bulldog - (8.7/10)

The TV rating was a 5.46 compared to WCW Nitro's 6.03. Superstars got a brilliant 5.15 compared to Worldwide 2.16

Pretty good first show, You're building up IYH pretty well. I was hoping we'd get a big battle royal to see who'd go to face Bret for the title, But that doesn't matter, As Diesel being given the title shot is good to me. His match with Bret should be a good one. I'm wondering if you'll keep Hall and Nash after May, Or let them go and build up new people to take their positions. Looking forward to reading next week's Raw.

BTW, It's spelled DiBiase (Y)

Keep up the good work man (Y)

Monday Night Raw - 29nd January 1996

Raw opens up with a clip from last week involving Diesel assaulting The Undertaker with Bret Hart running in to make the save. We are told that Diesel will challenge the Hitman in less than 3 weeks for the WWF World Title. JR and Vince McMahon are providing commentary and they analyse the World Title situation, as well as the match between Shawn Michaels and Owen Hart at In Your House. They are cut off by the music of Jerry Lawler who comes to the ring with a cocky look on his face. We are then shown a clip of Lawler attacking The Godwinns during their match with The Body Donnas last week. The Godwinns music then plays and Phineas makes his way out with Henry and Hillbilly Jim. Henry has the slop and stares a hole straight through Lawler as we go to the opening match.

Phineas Godwinn Vs Jerry Lawler

Lawler didn’t seem to want any part of Phineas as he cowered behind the referee. JR referred to Phineas as being the runt of the Godwinn litter, and as he did this Lawler got a cheap knee shot in to the ribs of Phineas. Lawler pushed Phineas into the corner and began punching him in the face, but Phineas turned Lawler around and laid into him with rights and lefts. Lawler come out of the corner fighting but Phineas hit him with a mule kick sending Lawler to the outside. ‘The King’ got up and came face to face with Henry, who threatened Lawler with the slop. Lawler backed away and slid into the ring. Lawler argued with the ref about Henry being at ringside, and while he did this Phineas tried hitting the Slop Drop, but Lawler held on to the ropes. Phineas quickly went for an Atomic drop but Lawler got a cheap thumb to the eye and quickly hit him with a Piledriver for the 3 count.

Winner: Jerry Lawler

Lawler began yelling at Phineas before Henry slid into the ring, causing Jerry Lawler to scurry off up the aisle.

We cut straight to the back where we are in the office of Gorilla Monsoon

Monsoon: Now I am here to make an announcement regarding the finish in the match between Razor Ramon and Goldust at the Royal Rumble. Now I will get to that in a minute, but first I would like to announce a match for Wrestlemania XII. At Wrestlemania XII, not only with Shawn Michaels challenge for the World Title, but we will witness the first ever Wrestlemania Open. The rules to this match are simple. It will be a 20 man over the top rope elimination match with the last man standing. That man will win the Wrestlemania Open Trophy and earn a shot at the Intercontinental Title at a later date, but now on to the matter at hand.

Monsoon: I have spoken to Razor Ramon and I offered him a choice of opponent for In Your House. I said he could get a rematch with Goldust, or he could face the 1-2-3 Kid and his hatred for his former friend is such that Razor Ramon has decided to face The 1-2-3 Kid at In Your House VI. Now due to Razor Ramon not getting a fair rematch for the Intercontinental Title, I have decided that the winner of this match will face Goldust at Wrestlemania XII. However, due to the actions of Razor Ramon and The 1-2-3 Kid last week, that both men are suspended from turning up on Monday Night Raw tonight, but they will be allowed to return next week. I hope you enjoy the rest of the show

We cut to a commercial break, and as we return The Smoking Gunns are making their way to the ring. JR and Vince put over the two matches made by President Monsoon before telling us that the challengers are Kama and Tatanka and are already in the ring

Tag Team Title Match

The Smoking Gunns © Vs Kama and Tatanka

Bart and Kama started the match off and locked up collar and elbow. Kama got the advantage with a knee to the ribs of Bart, and then he and Tatanka made frequent tags to keep the Smoking Gunn in the ring. Billy tried frantically to get into the match but to no avail. Kama and Tatanka looked to have it won as they hit a double powerbomb, but Billy managed to break up the 3 count. Bart finally managed to make the tag and Billy came in, unleashing rights and lefts on both men. Billy and Bart backed their opponents into the corner and both did a 10 punch combination, when from behind The British Bulldog clotheslined Billy Gunn. Vader was then seen hammering away on Tatanka, and Yokozuna planted Bart with a side kick as the referee rung for the bell

No Contest

Jim Cornette then came into the ring and began directing traffic. Vader hit Kama with a huge powerbomb. Yokozuna planted Tatanka with a Banzai. British Bulldog delivered a running powerslam to Bart Gunn and then Vader climbed the ropes and flattened Billy Gunn with a Vader Bomb. Camp Cornette threw the four men out of the ring before Jim Cornette grabbed a microphone

Cornette: Now I told you that I had an announcement regarding a match involving Camp Cornette at In Your House and we’ve just given you a preview. Now I spoke to the lawyer of Camp Cornette, Clarence Mason, and he agreed with me that one of my men deserves to face Bret Hart at In Your House and he believes that an injustice was done. That’s why he went to Gorilla Monsoon and he used all the powers he had, all the persuasive skills he had to give Camp Cornette the next best thing. He told me that I, James E. Cornette, would be allowed to chose two men to face the tag team champions at In Your House in a tag team title match and I have made my decision. Representing Camp Cornette will be Vader and Yokozuna. Now not only that but The British Bulldog will be at ringside during the Shawn Michaels and Owen Hart match to make sure that nothing goes wrong, and that no more injustices get done against me and my men

Jim Cornette drops the microphone as he stands between Yokozuna and Vader and raises their arms, as we go to Dok Hendrix who is with Goldust and Marlena

Dok: That’s right JR I’m back here with The Intercontinental Champion Goldust and I have to ask you for your thoughts on the match between The 1-2-3 Kid and Razor Ramon at In Your House

Goldust: My thoughts? It’s like this Dok Hendrix; to me it’s like a movie. Two men battling it out at In Your House, the winner gets to play the joint leading role in the Intercontinental Title match at the blockbuster thriller of the year. The Grand Daddy of them All. Two men will battle and give it their all, put everything on the line as they battle in vein, for whoever wins the match will never forget the name of (Loud Breath) Goldust!

Goldust and Marlena walk off as Hendrix shakes his head. We come back to the arena where Shawn Michaels is making his way to the ring as he prepares for battle. We quickly go to a commercial for In Your House VI and as we come back, his opponent Salvatore Sincere is getting into the ring.

Shawn Michaels Vs Salvatore Sincere

The referee calls for the bell, but as he does so Salvatore grabs a mic

Salvatore: Wait, wait a minute Shawn because Salvatore has something to say

Michaels shakes his head as Salvatore continues

Salvatore: Now you may have won the Royal Rumble, but that doesn’t matter Shawn. Me and you are still equal, everyone is equal. You are no better than me Shawn, in fact if anything you are weaker than me because I have respect for others. I value the opinions of others and most importantly, Salvatore loves yo…

Salvatore Sincere is cut off by the Sweet Chin Music as Michaels makes the cover for the 3 count

Winner: Shawn Michaels

Shawn Michaels looks down at Salvatore Sincere and shakes his head, and as he looks up the ramp he sees Owen Hart clapping his hands. Michaels challenges Owen to come to the ring, but Owen Hart heads backstage instead to huge boos as we go to a commercial break

When we come back we hear ‘With My Baby Tonight’ as Jeff Jarrett makes his way to the ring with his guitar. Jarrett stops half way down the aisle and begins doing his strut which gets huge heat from the crowd. Jarrett climbs in and raises his guitar above his head and grabs a microphone

Jarrett: Thank you very much, now if you would care to be quiet because Double J has something to say

The crowd continues booing Jarrett

Jarrett: Last week I blasted that ugly mammal Ahmed Johnson over the head with a guitar and left him in a state in the ring. No-one has ever left Ahmed beaten and battered like I did last week, which well and truly makes me the greatest but oh no, it don’t stop there. You see, Double J is using their as another stepping stone as I make my way to superstardom. I am going all the way to the top and soon I will be the World Champion and top of the country and western billboard charts

The heavy beat of Ahmed Johnson’s music then kicks in as ‘The Peoples Champ’ comes running out. He slides into the ring causing Jarrett to jump out. Ahmed picks up the microphone as Jarrett backs up the aisle

Ahmed: Jeff Jarrett, me and you at In Your House

Ahmed throws the microphone down and looks up the ramp at Jarrett

We then go backstage where Bret Hart is being interviewed by Todd Pettingal

Todd: Bret, last week it was announced by President Gorilla Monsoon that at In Your House VI you will defend your World Championship against the 7 foot monster Diesel. Your thoughts on this huge match

Bret: Everyone is asking how I am going to be able to beat Diesel. People forget that I already beat him at Survivor Series and I plan on proving that it wasn’t a fluke. I want people to know that my legacy as the greatest champion ever will continue. Nothing will stop me from proving that I am the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be

From behind came Diesel who nailed Bret with a clothesline to the back of the head. Diesel grabbed the champ and threw him into a wall before dropping him with a JackKnife powerbomb on the concrete, as Todd Pettingal called for medical attention for Bret

We come back to the arena where Hunter Hearst Helmsley is making his way to the arena. His opponent is already in the ring. JR puts these two men over as the iron men of the Royal Rumble

Hunter Hearst Helmsley Vs ‘Sparky Plug’ Bob Holly

Helmsley cheapshotted Holly before the bell and went to work from their. Helmsley whipped Sparky Plug into the ropes and hit him with a huge knee lift to the face, but the pin got two. Helmsley dropped another knee to Holly and began punching away at Bob Holly. Holly managed to get back into the match though, as he countered a Northern Lights suplex with a DDT. Holly then sent Hunter down with a huge dropkick which got a two count. Bob Holly lifted Hunter up and set him up for the Falcon Arrow, but Helmsley raked Holly across the face and quickly hit the pedigree for the 3 count

Winner: Hunter Hearst Helmsley

Hunter got his arms raised in victory and continued putting boots in to Bob Holly until Duke Droese came running down the aisle. Droese and Helmsley pounded away at each other but ‘The Dumpster’ got the advantage and clotheslined Helmsley over the top rope before posing to the fans.

A video then airs with footage of someone shadow boxing. We then get a close up of his face as the words ‘Marc Mero – Debuts Next Week’ appear across the bottom. After that we cut to our last commercial break of the evening

As we come back, the horns sound as Diesel makes his way out to huge heat from the crowd. He climbs into the ring and clotheslines Jake Roberts, causing the ref to star the match

Diesel Vs Jake Roberts

Diesel stomped away at Roberts who was down following the pre match assault. Diesel then lifted Roberts up before whipping him to the ropes, and dropping him with a big boot. Diesel made the cover but ‘The Snake’ kicked out. Diesel lifted him up and hit a huge sidewalk slam but again it only got two. Diesel began to look like he was getting frustrated, but that soon changed to a smile as he lifted Jake Roberts up and hit him with a JackKnife Powerbomb, as the referee reached two Diesel lifted Roberts up. Diesel grabbed Roberts by the hair, and this time planted him with a Tombstone Piledriver. This time the cover got three

Winner: Diesel

Diesel stood up and raised his arms with a huge grin across his face, but as he did this the lights went out and the Undertaker’s gong was heard. The Undertaker then appeared on the big screen with a cold look on his face. Paul Bearer then made his way out pushing a casket. Diesel looked worried as Bearer got to ringside, and left the casket before going backstage. Diesel looked into the casket and out jumped Bret Hart. Bret began beating away at Diesel, causing the big man to hi-tail it up the ramp. Bret got into the ring and stood on the turnbuckles, challenging Diesel to come back to the ring as the show ended

Good Raw, I liked Gorilla's announcements, I can't wait to see the match between the Kid and Razor Ramon at In Your House either. I loved Shawn quickly beating Salvatore, And the ending was great too, I can already see Undertaker costing Big Daddy Cool the title at In Your House. I dunno what's going to happen with Yokozuna and Vader, I think they could break up, Or just win the titles. They'd certainly be a unbeatable team if they were champions.

Glad to see you kept Kama around, As he's a personal favorite of mine, I don't really care for Tatanka, But since you got plans for them, It should be good. IYH looks great already, And this week's Raw looks stacked. Keep up the good work (Y)

MONDAY NIGHT RAW - 5th February 1996

Raw opens up with a video of last week’s main event, including Bret Hart jumping out of the casket and attacking Diesel. Vince McMahon tells us that tonight he will be interview both Bret Hart and Diesel in a face to face interview just 13 days before In Your House. Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler and Vince McMahon are the commentators for this evening. The Million Dollar Man’s laugh is heard over the PA system before it changes to Steve Austin’s music and the two make their way out to the ring. The beat of Ahmed Johnson’s music plays and he walks out to a huge ovation. He climbs into the ring and the referee starts the opening match off

Ahmed Johnson Vs Steve Austin w/Ted Dibiase

Austin and Ahmed lock up, but Ahmed gets the advantage as he pushes Steve Austin down to the mat. The crowd rally behind Johnson who sends Steve Austin down with a clothesline and then some boots to the ribs. Austin backs into the corner but avoids an Ahmed Johnson avalanche and takes the advantage. Austin locked in the Million Dollar Dream to Ahmed, but ‘The Peoples Champ’ was to close to the ropes. Austin argued with the referee but went back to the offensive with a suplex which only scored 2. Austin lifted Ahmed up and attempted a Stunner, but Ahmed pushed him away and hit a boot to the ribs. Johnson set Austin up for the Pearl River Plunge, but from behind came Jeff Jarrett who hit Ahmed Johnson over the head with a guitar. Ahmed fell down to the mat as the referee called for the bell

Winner: Ahmed Johnson

Double J stood over Ahmed Johnson and told him that he had no chance at In Your House in their match. Double J then strutted up the ramp as we go backstage to see Goldust in his locker room. There’s a knock on the door and The 1-2-3 Kid walks in

Goldust: Well if it isn’t The 1-2-3 Kid. A man who wants a supporting role at Wrestlemania in the Intercontinental Title match

Kid: Cut it out Goldust. You know why I am here. You promised me that if I helped you beat Razor Ramon at The Royal Rumble that you would give me a title shot. Well I’m still waiting.

Goldust: What you have to understand is that I want to give you a title shot. I want me and you to face off to see who the better, ‘man’, is but controversial circumstances have conspired against us. The President has something against me and you but we will prevail because we are stronger than he is.

Kid: But when do I get my title match

Goldust: March 31st, Anaheim California, Wrestlemania XII. You see, it’s like all the big stars say, help those who help you. Now if you make sure that I do not lose this Intercontinental title then I promise you that at In Your House, you will prevail in your match against Razor Ramon

Kid: You better

The 1-2-3 Kid walks off as Goldust has a big smirk on his face. Back in the arena, JR and McMahon speculate that Goldust may be mentally controlling the 1-2-3 Kid to do his dirty work. JR then hypes the debut of Marc Mero as Barry Windham makes his way out. McMahon puts Windham over as a veteran who wants to prove himself. The fast paced music of Marc Mero plays as he makes his way out to a huge ovation. He does some shadow boxing in the aisle before climbing in. He stands on the turnbuckle and poses for the crowd as we get underway

Marc Mero Vs Barry Windham

Windham charges Mero straight away but he runs straight into a drop kick. Windham gets up but this time walks straight into a Mero punching combination. Windham backs into the corner and Mero charges him, and takes him down with a monkey flip, but the cover gets 2. Mero attempts a standing moonsault but Windham gets his knees up and goes on the offensive. He hits two clubbing shots across the back of Mero before going for a DDT. Mero backflips Windham out of it, and then takes Windham down with a Samoan drop. Mero climbs the turnbuckle and hit a Shooting Star Press, which McMahon called the MeroSault. The cover got the 3 and Marc Mero is victorious in his debut

Winner: Marc Mero

Mero raises his arms in victory as we cut to our first commercial break of the evening. We come back to see the Body Donnas and Hunter Hearst Helmsley make their way out together. Helmsley is arm in arm with Sunny as Lawler calls them a brilliant couple together. The farm music plays and The Godwinns make their way out along with Duke Droese. Henry points to Lawler at ringside who complains about the smell. Hillbilly Jim has a goat with him at ringside

The Body Donnas and Hunter Hearst Helmsley Vs The Godwinns and Duke Droese

Henry and Zip start us off, as Lawler lays into insults about the Godwinns and how he would beat Henry at In Your House. Henry used several power moves before hip tossing Zip to the mat. Droese and Helmsley are tagged in, but Helmsley tags straight out to Skip as he wants no part of Droese. Droese goes to work on Skip, but as he hits the ropes for a clothesline, Sunny grabs his foot and trips him off. This allows Skip to take the advantage and for the heel team to triple team ‘The Dumpster’. Helmsley tags himself in and puts the boots in to Droese. Helmsley then attempted the Pedigree, but Droese back body dropped Helmsley before tagging in Henry. Henry came on and laid out both Donnas with right hands as we turned into a pier 6 brawl. The referee tried to split up a fight on the outside between Zip and Phineas, which gave Lawler chance to come into the ring and hit a low blow to Henry, and then Hunter planted him with a Pedigree for a 3 count.

Winners: The Body Donnas and Hunter Hearst Helmsley

Lawler then began slapping Henry with Helmsley raising his arms in victory. Duke Droese then came into the ring and cleaned house with his garbage can. Lawler went back to the announce table while Helmsley pointed at Droese from the aisle

A video for In Your House VI is played before we go to the ring where Vince McMahon is in the ring with a microphone.

Vince: Ladies and Gentleman, in just 13 days at In Your House Diesel will challenge ‘The Hitman’ Bret Hart for the World Championship. Now the problems between the two have escalated in the past few weeks and I have been given the task to interview both men on their thoughts for the match. First is the challenger, please welcome ‘Big Daddy Cool’ Diesel.

Diesel makes his way out to a huge chorus of boos. He climbs over the top rope and raises his arm in the air.

Vince: And now the World Champion, Bret Hart

Bret walks out to a great pop with the title over his shoulder. He climbs into the ring and poses for the crowd before going face to face with Diesel

Vince: Now first off welcome to both men. Now Diesel, at last years Survivor Series you were beaten for the title by this man. Why have you yet to use your rematch clause

Diesel: I’ll tell you why Vince, because I’ve been screwed over by Gorilla Monsoon and by Bret Hart. Why the hell are Davey Boy Smith and The Undertaker been given title matches when I am owed one. But that don’t matter because at the Royal Rumble, I proved I could go the distance. Shawn Michaels got one cheap shot in on me and that cost me a Wrestlemania XII main event match. Meanwhile Bret Hart is out giving title shots to everyone else but me

Vince: Bret, how to you respond to this?

Bret: Well it’s simply Vince. I’ve never backed down from a challenge. If you wanted a title shot Diesel, all you had to do is ask.

Vince: Now Diesel, last week you attacked Bret Hart but not only that you demolished Jake Roberts in your match last week. Do you expect to carry this momentum on to In Your House?

Diesel: There is no doubt in my mind, and when I do I will walk out as the World Champion and then face Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania

Bret: But you see Diesel, no-one thought that you could be stopped. For the entire of 1995, you were the most dominant wrestler on the planet but I beat you. No-one give me a chance but I did it and you’ve not gotten over that

Diesel: You are right, you beat me. I can say it Bret, you beat me. But you got lucky, and at In Your House VI, no matter what it takes I will beat you one, two, three.

Bret and Diesel then got in each others face and then began exchanging punches. Diesel got the advantage but Bret come flying back with a Hart Attack. Diesel then got up and attempted a big boot when the lights went out, and The Undertaker’s music is heard playing. They stay off for a couple of minutes, and when they come back on Bret Hart is stood in the ring with Vince McMahon, and Diesel has disappeared. Bret and Vince look confused as we go to a commercial break

When we return, we see The Smoking Gunns in the back discussing their match with Yokozuna and Vader at In Your House when Jim Cornette approaches them

Cornette: Gentleman I am here to make an offer for you. You see in 13 days in Louisville, my home town, you will be facing the biggest tag team in WWF history in Yokozuna and Vader. They weigh over a ton between them and you two are risking a lot by stepping into the ring with them. That is why I am offering you the option to hand the tag title belts over to me now to save you both getting hurt at In Your House

Bart: Let me get this straight, you want us to hand you the tag team belts?

Cornette: And the match at In Your House will be off

Billy: Get out of here Jim

As that gets said, Vader and Yokozuna attack The Smoking Gunns from behind. Vader throws Bart into a nearby vending machine while Yokozuna flattens Billy with a yazuka kick. Cornette kicks Billy before walking off with his tag team.

We come out to the arena to see Savio Vega in the ring when the arena goes gold, and The Intercontinental Champion makes his way out alongside Marlena. Goldust gets into the ring and removes his robe before squatting in the corner

Intercontinental Title Match

Goldust © Vs Savio Vega

Savio approached Goldust but he took an uppercut, before putting Goldust into a headlock. Goldust grabbed Savio’s backside to get out of it, but took a dropkick. Goldust backed into a corner and Savio approached him, but took a thumb to the eye for his trouble. Goldust went for a bulldog but Savio pushed him off before hitting a back body drop. Savio dropped the leg across Goldust’s back as JR speculated that Savio Vega had Goldust’s number. Savio hit a hurracarana on to Goldust before going to the top rope. Marlena got on the apron and distracted the referee, and while this happened The 1-2-3 Kid appeared and pushed Savio off, before Goldust rolled him up and grabbed the tights for the win

Winner: Goldust

The 1-2-3 Kid looked down at Savio Vega before Goldust went to shake his hand. The Kid looked at the Intercontinental Title belt instead and hinted that he wanted it around his waist. At that point Razor Ramon came running down the aisle causing The 1-2-3 Kid to jump out of the ring. Goldust simply backed into a corner as Razor approached him. Goldust stroked Razor’s face before crawling past him, straight into a Savio Vega spinning heel kick. Razor then waited until Goldust was on his knees, before Razor pointed to the Kid and then planted Goldust with a Razor’s Edge. JR put over that Savio should of won and that the Kid was scared of Razor, to which The King replied that The 1-2-3 Kid was just avoiding a fight with a street punk. McMahon then questioned the relationship between The 1-2-3 Kid and Goldust, to which Lawler called a ‘business deal’

We then cut to the locker room area where Clarence Mason is stood by with Todd Pettingal. Mason has some papers under his arm

Todd: Clarence Mason you requested this time to make an announcement…

Mason: That is right Todd. Now as you know one of my clients, Crush, has spent time in prison for a crime that he did not commit. Now next Tuesday Crush will face a retrial and I am 100% that my team will prove Crush to be not guilty by any means necessary. Then when Crush is found innocent, he will be at In Your House in one way or another.

Clarence walks off as we cut to a commercial break. As we return we see Hakushi in the ring. Mabel then makes his way out as JR and King put over what a monster Mabel is.

Mabel Vs Hakushi

Hakushi tried to dropkick Mabel but he got swatted away like a fly. Mabel grabbed Hakushi and threw him into the corner, before hitting him with an avalanche. Mabel lifted Hakushi up and dropped him with a powerbomb, before hitting a big splash for the 3 count

Winner: Mabel

Mabel raised his arms as JR put Mabel over as a dangerous individual as we cut to the back where Dok Hendrix is interviewing Owen Hart and The British Bulldog

Dok: Owen, in just 13 days you will go one on one with Shawn Michaels. What are your thoughts on this huge match?

Owen: Dok, in 13 days time I am going to beat Shawn Michaels within an inch of his life. I am going to dish out everything I have and I am going to make sure that under no circumstances will Shawn Michaels even be able to walk to the ring at Wrestlemania. I promise that Shawn Michaels will be in a hospital bed on March 31st

Dok: Now Davey Boy Smith, a lot is being made about your presence at ringside being unfair against Shawn Michaels. Will you honestly stand at ringside and in no way get involved?

Bulldog: Dok Hendrix, I am at ringside because Jim Cornette is going to be too busy with Vader and Yokozuna preparing for their tag title match to come and watch Owen beat Michaels. I am going to be there to simply offer moral support to my friend, my tag team partner and most importantly my brother in law. I will in no way interfere. Instead anything I have against Shawn Michaels I will take out one him now

As Bulldog finishes, Gorilla Monsoon walks into the picture

Monsoon: I’m glad you say that Davey Boy and I believe you, however due to this being such a big match I can not risk any body getting involved. That is why I have taken it upon myself to appoint a special guest enforcer

Owen: What’s the deal Monsoon? Who you got? Why you trying to screw me over damnit?

Monsoon: You’ll find out soon Owen, but you have nothing to worry about if you two are planning on playing fair

Bulldog and Owen walk off as the announcers hype up the In Your House VI card. The sounds of ‘Rule Britannia’ play as The British Bulldog makes his way out along with Owen Hart. Davey Boy Smith climbs on each turnbuckle and flexes his muscles for the crowd. Shawn Michaels then makes his way out to a huge pop from the crowd. Michaels gets in the ring and poses for the crowd but takes a forearm to the back of the head by Bulldog to start the match

British Bulldog Vs Shawn Michaels

Bulldog never allowed Michaels to get up as he continued to put the boots in to the back of Michaels. Bulldog hit a leg drop to Michaels and then put more boots in. He lifted HBK up and hit a huge stalling vertical suplex which only scored 2. Bulldog then applied a reverse chinlock, but HBK powered out of it when the crowd got behind him with the use of two elbows to the ribs. HBK whipped Bulldog to the ropes but he got turned inside out with a huge clothesline. Davey Boy Smith lifted Michaels up on his shoulder and attempted a Running Powerslam, but Michaels jumped out of it and hit a DDT. Both men are down but Michaels nipped up and went to the corner. He began warming the band up for some Sweet Chin Music, but Owen grabbed his foot. Michaels tried to push him off but Bulldog got back up and attacked Michaels. Owen slid in and the Brother-In-Laws began double teaming Michaels

Winner: Shawn Michaels

Bulldog and Owen continued to double team Michaels, before Owen locked in the Sharpshooter. Davey Boy Smith got in HBK’s face and began yelling at him when the sounds of the bagpipes echoed through the arena and Rowdy Roddy Piper made his way out to a huge pop. Piper stood walked down to the ring and climbed in, causing Owen and Bulldog to leave and back up the aisle. McMahon put over that Piper must be the enforcer as Raw went off the air

Another good Raw, In Your House is getting hyped pretty well and looks to be a solid card. I can't wait to see what happens with Piper tossed into the mix. Lets hope he doesn't end up wrestling anytime soon though. I can see a triple threat match being signed for the IC title at Wrestlemania between Razor, Goldust and the Kid. Either that, Or Kid will lose due to Goldust's backfired interference. The Diesel/Hart situation is building up well too as well as the small feud between Lawler and Henry Godwinn.

Next week's Raw looks awesome, And I can't wait to see what you'll do with Cactus Jack (Y)

Edit, Can't wait to see Crush back either

MONDAY NIGHT RAW - 12 February 1996

Raw opened up with still images from last weeks main event between Shawn Michaels and Owen Hart, and then the double team that followed. Then the music of Roddy Piper played and it changed into a video, with Piper staring a hole through Bulldog and Owen. Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler and Vince McMahon open up the programme and hype tonights main event of Bret Hart against Steve Austin just 6 days before Bret Hart takes on Diesel at In Your House. The sounds of a car crashing before the Cuban beat kicks in leads Razor Ramon down to the ring and he is accompanied by Savio Vega. Ramon gets into the ring and poses for the crowd while Savio stands in the background. The arena soon changes gold as Goldust, The 1-2-3 Kid and Marlena make their way. As they get into the ring, Goldust points to Ramon then pats The Kid on the back, before getting on the apron

The 1-2-3 Kid and Goldust Vs Razor Ramon and Savio Vega

The Kid looks at Goldust in shook before realising he’s stuck in the ring with Razor Ramon. Ramon takes him down with a clothesline and stomps at The Kid, backing him into the corner. Ramon continues to put the boots in before the referee has to drag Ramon away. The 1-2-3 Kid tries crawling to Goldust who points at Ramon, instructing the Kid to fight back. Razor grabs The 1-2-3 Kid up by his foot, but The Kid hits an enzurghi to send Razor down. Goldust tells The 1-2-3 Kid to teach Razor a lesson as he puts the boots in. Razor gets to his knees and takes a dropkick to the face, rolling him into his corner and tagging in Savio Vega. Goldust tags himself in off the Kid to face Savio Vega. Goldust attempts a clothesline but Savio ducks it and hits a huge super kick to the jaw of Goldust. Goldust goes down as Savio climbs to the top rope. As Goldust gets to his feet and staggers about, Savio leaps off and hits a Spinning heel kick. He makes the cover, but The 1-2-3 Kid hits a leg drop to the back of Savio Vega’s head to break up the count. Razor comes in and chases The Kid out of the ring. The Kid runs up the aisle with Razor chasing, leaving Goldust and Vega alone in the ring. Savio gets to his feet and runs to the ropes, but Marlena grabs his foot. Savio yells down at her allowing Goldust to sneak up from behind and hit the Curtain Call for the three count.

Winner: The 1-2-3 Kid and Goldust

As Goldust grabs his Intercontinental Title and stands tall in the ring with it in the air, we cut to the back where Todd Pettingal is alongside Shawn Michaels

Todd: Shawn Michaels, in just 6 days time you are set to go one on one with Owen Hart. Your thoughts on this huge match

Michaels: Todd Pettingal, I said just over 1 month ago that 1996 would be the year of the ‘Heart Break Kid’ Shawn Michaels. At the Royal Rumble, I made the perfect start to the year and that is going to continue on through February and in to March. Owen Hart is going to be nothing more than a small hurdle as I sprint on to Wrestlemania

Todd: Are you worried that you may be focusing too much on your Wrestlemania title shot, and not focusing enough on your match with Owen Hart

Michaels: I’m not worried about overlooking Owen Hart. I know what a tough individual he is and I know that we will tear the house down, but I can’t remember him ever beating HBK. I’m focused on my match with Owen as I want to get revenge for what he’s done in the past

Todd: And finally your thoughts on ‘Hot Rod’ Roddy Piper being named as the special enforcer at In Your House

Michaels: It doesn’t matter to Shawn Michaels. All it means is that Davey Boy Smith is going to be kept out of the ring, rather than sticking his nose where it doesn’t belong

Todd: Shawn Michaels, thank you

As Shawn Michaels walks off we cut to a commercial break. When we come back we see a video for a cowboy, seen hitting people with a cowboy then using a branding iron to write the initials ‘JHB’ on their back. The video ends saying ‘Justin Hawk Bradshaw – Coming Soon’. When we return to the ring Jerry Lawler is stood by with a microphone

Lawler: That’s right, now if all you peons will shut up and listen for a minute, and quit the burger king chants

The crowd boo louder before more burger king chants start up

Lawler: Now in 6 days I’ve got to face some pig farmer from Arkansas at In Your House. I don’t know how someone like royalty, like myself, can be expected to face that slob. Now speaking of slobs, last week on Raw I got attacked from behind by a bin man. Monsoon I don’t know what sort of company you’re running, putting a King against bin men and farmers but it isn’t right…

Jerry Lawler gets cut off by the sound of the lorry reversing as Duke Droese makes his way out with a garbage can raised in the air. Droese got into the ring and posed for the fans, but got attacked from behind by Jerry Lawler.

Duke Droese Vs Jerry Lawler

Lawler began to kick away at the ribs of Droese, but he got speared down to the mat and the fans went crazy as Droese hammered away on Lawler. Droese lifted Lawler up and hit a DDT but a cover got a two count. Droese pounded away at the skull of Lawler and lifted him up, he suplexed Lawler before yelling about taking out the trash. Droese lifted Lawler up and whipped him to the ropes and then hit the Trash Compactor, but before he made the pin the music of Hunter Hearst Helmsley played. Helmsley slowly walked down the aisle clapping Droese’s offence. Helmsley then tried to get into the ring but the referee stopped him, allowing Lawler to hit a low blow to Droese. Lawler rolled him up and took a 3 count for the win

Winner: Jerry Lawler

Lawler and Helmsley then began the double team of Duke Droese, until the Godwinns music played and both Henry and Phineas made their way out, causing Helmsley and Lawler to quickly leave the ring. The Godwinns helped Droese up as Lawler and Helmsley went backstage

Back in the locker room, The British Bulldog is talking to a road agent when Rowdy Roddy Piper approaches him

Piper: Well if it isn’t Davey Boy Smith, a fellow Brit. How’s it going Davey?

Bulldog: What do you want Piper?

Piper: I’m just here to tell you something about In Your House and about tonight. You may of guessed Bulldog, but I am the enforcer in the match between Owen and Shawn Michaels at In Your House and that means that it is my job to make sure no-one interferes in that match. Now I notice that you are going to be at ringside and I am ok with that, but if you try and interfere in that match I am personally going to eject you from ringside. That goes for the 6 man tag team match tonight as well.

Bulldog: You have it all wrong Rowdy. I’m not going to be interfering in any match

Piper: Well let’s keep it that way

Piper walked off leaving Bulldog shaking his head. Piper then made his way out to ringside for the next match and took a seat alongside Vince McMahon and Jim Ross in the seat left by Jerry Lawler. Owen Hart’s music hit and he, Yokozuna and Vader made their way to ringside being accompanied by Jim Cornette. They got into the ring except Owen, who went and got in Piper’s face. The gun shots were heard as the Tag Team Champions made their way out to a great pop, but they stopped just in front of the ring as Shawn Michaels made his way out. Michaels slapped hands with the fans as we get the match underway

The Smoking Gunns and Shawn Michaels Vs Vader, Yokozuna and Owen Hart

Bart Gunn and Vader started the match. Vader as expected gained the advantage with some stiff looking body shots to Bart before yelling ‘who da man’. Vader tagged out to Owen Hart who dropkicked Bart Gunn, and Camp Cornette began the triple team of Bart Gunn, even luring Billy in to further hit a triple team. When Vader missed a moonsault, Bart finally tagged in Billy Gunn, and he charged at Yokozuna who got tagged in. Vader tried getting involved bringing Bart back in, and when Owen tried he got clotheslined over the top rope by Shawn Michaels. The British Bulldog came running from the back, but Piper met him at the bottom of the aisle. Bulldog tried to get passed but Piper refused to budge. Michaels and Owen continued to brawl on the other side of the ring to where Piper and Bulldog where. Cornette tried arguing with Piper but he took a right hook which angered Piper, who began yelling at Bulldog. British Bulldog wanted no part and backed up the aisle with Piper following. Back in the ring, Vader threw Bart Gunn over the top rope before hitting a huge powerbomb to Billy, then dragging him into the corner where Yokozuna hit a Banzai drop for the 3 count.

Winners: Vader, Yokozuna and Owen Hart

Vader and Yokozuna stood in the ring with their arms raised by Cornette, before helping Owen against Shawn Michaels. They brought Michaels in the ring where Vader powerbombed him before Owen locked in the Sharpshooter as we cut to a commercial break

When we return, Ahmed Johnson is in the ring with a microphone

Ahmed: Jeff Jarrett, in 6 days time it’s me and you one on one at In Your House. Now Jeff, you can bring all the guitars you want but it won’t make any difference. Now if you want to prove how tough you are Jeff, why don’t you come on down now and we’re get it started right here, right now

The music of Double J played but he was nowhere to be seen. Suddenly he came into the ring behind Ahmed Johnson with a guitar raised in the air. Johnson turned around and ducked the guitar shot. Ahmed nailed Jarrett with a clothesline before whipping Jarrett to the ropes and planting him with a huge spinebuster. Jarrett quickly rolled to the outside as Ahmed Johnson stood tall in the ring, pointing down at Double J

We go to the back where The Undertaker and Paul Bearer are in a dark room

Bearer: Oh Yes! Last week Diesel felt the presence of the dark side. Diesel was given an example of what The Undertaker is capable off and what The Undertaker will do when Diesel accepts our challenge of a one on one match. Diesel, last week you found not to mess with The Undertaker

Undertaker: Diesel, last week you were given an example of what The Undertaker and the Creatures of the Night are capable of doing, and soon enough Diesel, you will Rest In Peace

We come back to the arena where Salvatore Sincere is stood with a microphone

Sincere: Hello to my American friends, this is Salvatore Sincere with something to say to his fans. Now two weeks ago I was attacked before my match against an American pig, Shawn Michaels. Now if Gorilla Monsoon was a fair President then he would strip Shawn Michaels of his number one contendership and give it to me, Salvatore Sincere. But as we know, President Gorilla Monsoon is not fair, but I will not hold it against any of you, because Salvatore loves you all

The music of Marc Mero plays as he makes his way out to a great reception. Mero shakes hands with many of the fans at ringside before climbing in to the ring

Marc Mero Vs Salvatore Sincere

Mero and Sincere tied up collar and elbow, and Marc Mero got the advantage by backing Salvatore into the corner. Mero then unloaded several body shots before a big ten punch combination. Salvatore Sincere staggered out of the corner and straight into a Samoan Drop. Marc Mero went to the top rope and hit his MeroSault, and the referee counted to 3 to give him a win and keep his undefeated streak.

Winner: Marc Mero

Mero got his arm raised in victory as he headed backstage. We then cut to a locker room which is similar to that of a Hollywood actor when there is a knock on the door. We see Goldust answer it to an exhausted 1-2-3 Kid

Goldust: 1-2-3 Kid, the roles have been changed tonight. The villain is chasing the good side and…

Kid: Shut the crap Goldust, you know why I am here. What the hell was that tonight?

Goldust: What are you talking about?

Kid: Making me going into the ring with that loony, and then leaving me to be chased around the arena by him

Goldust: Mind games

Kid: Well I don’t get affected by Mind Games

Goldust: I think you miss understand. They are not meant for you, but rather the ‘Bad Guy’. You see you are firmly in his head now. At In Your House he is going to be a mad man who will stop at destroying you limb from limb. He will stop and nothing to tear you apart and…

Kid: Will you stop, how the hell is this helping me?

Goldust: Because he is either going to get himself disqualified, or he is going to make a mistake and that is where you predator instinct comes in. When he makes a mistake then you capitalise and then you will beat him and it will be me and you at Wrestlemania

Kid: But remember our deal. I got you that title and you promised that you would give me a shot

Goldust: And you will. Razor Ramon will not walk out of In Your House as the number 1 contender. Now go, go and prepare for your battle

Kid: You want me to go out there with that idiot on the loose

Goldust: Don’t worry; he’s not smart enough to check around here

The 1-2-3 Kid quietly leaves Goldust’s locker room and sneaks off down a corridor, when he comes face to face with Razor. The Kid turns around and sprints off in the other direction with Razor giving chase. We come back to the arena to see Steve Austin making his way out with Ted Dibiase. Austin gets into the ring and raises his arms, when Bret Hart makes his way down to ring. Hart gives a pair of his pink glasses to a fan and slides into the ring and poses for the fans

Bret Hart Vs Steve Austin

Hart and Austin lock up with Hart backing Austin into a corner and giving a clean break. Austin then backs Hart into the corner and breaks clean, before getting in a cheap shot to The Hitman. Austin begins to mock The Hitman’s poses before taking a Hart Attack clothesline and have Bret pound away at Austin’s skull. Bret went for a Sharpshooter early on, but Austin kicked him away. Austin got back up and suplexed Bret Hart, before going for a Sharpshooter of his own. Bret kicked Austin into the corner, and lifted him on to the top rope. Bret then hit a superplex to Austin, leaving both men down on the canvas. Bret made the cover but it only got two. As both men got to their feet, Austin hit a boot to the mid-section and attempted a Stunner, but Bret countered with a Russian Leg Sweep. Bret quickly locked in the Sharpshooter and Austin screamed and struggled. Diesel then came running down the aisle and planted Bret with a big boot, causing the referee to call for the bell

Winner: Bret Hart

Diesel continued to put the boots in on Bret, before lifting him up and planting him with a huge JackKnife Powerbomb. Raw ended with Diesel stood over Bret with his arms raised in the air.

Good Raw, It wad pretty good hype for this Sunday's in your house. I like Marc Mero's push, And hopefully he'll have a good opponent for Wrestlemania 12. I think now Razor will probably end up getting disqualified or something, But for some reason, I still see it being a triple threat match for the IC title at Wrestlemania. Ahmed and Jarrett is building up well and I can't wait to see who'll win that one. I just hope they don't fight again at Wrestlemania. I'll leave my IYH predictions later. (Y)

IN YOUR HOUSE VI

WWF World Championship Match

Bret Hart © Vs Diesel

Bret Hart, While I'd love to see Diesel versus Shawn part II at Wrestlemania 12, Bret's more established than Diesel and would make a better opponent for Michaels come Wrestlemania. Plus, I don't see Diesel just holding the title for like a month.

Special Guest Referee: Rowdy Roddy Piper

Shawn Michaels Vs Owen Hart w/British Bulldog

Shawn's main eventing Wrestlemania, Owen's not. Shawn needs to look strong, So logic says the Heart Break Kid should win this one.

Number 1 Contendership for the Intercontinental Title

The 1-2-3 Kid Vs Razor Ramon

Goldust accidentally costs the Kid the match, Then we'll somehow get a triple threat match at Wrestlemania. Should be a great match though.

Hunter Hearst Helmsley Vs Duke 'The Dumpster' Droese

Helmsley was the next big thing to Vince in '96 so there's no way he'll lose to Droese here, Plus, Blue blood Helmsley rocked the school.

Grudge Match

Henry O. Godwinn w/Hillbilly Jim and Phineas Godwinn Vs Jerry 'The King' Lawler

I think Henry might win just due to Lawler having the advantage during this feud, But since too many faces look like they're picking up wins, I'll go with Lawler.

Tag Team Title Match

The Smoking Gunns © Vs Vader and Yokozuna w/James E. Cornette

Vader and Yokozuna are gonna kill Bart and Billy, A split between Vader and Yokozuna could happen, But I just don't see them losing here.

'Double J' Jeff Jarrett Vs Ahmed Johnson

Even though Johnson came out on top on Raw, I don't see Jarrett beating the big hoss.

Free For All

Marc Mero Vs Tatanka

Tatanka's gonna get his ass kicked like a dog

Bonus Questions:

1. What will be the first match (Excluding the Free For All)? Helmsley/Droese

2. What will be the match before the main event? HBK/Owen

3. Who pins who in the tag team title match? Vader pins Bart

4. Will Crush show up? Yes

5. Will anyone turn? No

6. What will get the best overall quality (EWR ratings) HBK/Owen

7. What will get the worst overall quality (EWR ratings) Lawler/Godwinn

In Your House VI: Free For All

The Free For All show opens up with a clock in the bottom right corner of the screen with 30 minutes on it. Dok Hendrix and Todd Pettingal are the hosts for the Free For All and are backstage at the WWF interview area

Todd: Hello and welcome to the Free For All show on the freeview channel as we countdown to In Your House VI

Dok: That’s right, it’s ‘handsome’ Dok Hendrix alongside Todd Pettingal as we run through the card for tonight’s huge pay per view

Todd: Not only that, we have a bonus match between Marc Mero and Tatanka exclusively live here on the Freeview channel, but Dok, the one match I want to start off talking about is Shawn Michaels taking on Owen Hart

Dok: There is so much personal dislike between these two men. They really don’t like each other. It all started back when Owen Hart caused Shawn Michaels to black out in the ring after hitting him with the enzurghi

Todd: But Shawn Michaels bounced back strong, and he shocked the world by winning the Royal Rumble for the second year in a row

Dok: But the next night on Raw Todd, Owen Hart interrupted Shawn Michaels victory celebration and challenged him to the match here tonight
