BACKLASH RESULTS

April 21st 2002

Kansas City, MO

We kick off at the announce desk where we join our hosts for the evening, Jim Ross and Jerry “The King” Lawler- the voices of RAW.

JIM ROSS: Welcome everyone to Backlash, the first Pay Per View following WrestleMania! And also the first Pay Per View as part of the brand extension. For the past three weeks there have been two separate brands, and tonight all the superstars are under the same roof for Backlash!

JERRY LAWLER: And what a show we have for you tonight ladies and gentlemen. The WWF Undisputed title is on the line, in what some are expecting to be a clash of the immortals. Hollywood Hulk Hogan, the challenger and “The Game” Triple H the champion looking to go one on one tonight!

JIM ROSS: But we are going to kick things off on the Smackdown side, as the United States Championship makes a return- to the WWF!

JERRY LAWLER: And so does the Rabid Wolverine, Chris Benoit!

UNITED STATES CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

Chris Benoit [VS] Chris Jericho [VS] Edge

[A very solid opener here with the three best athletes on Smackdown, and probably in the WWF. Benoit didn’t look too out of touch here, though he was being a lot more grounded, even for him. Jericho was at the heart of all the chants here, with the crowd dividing themselves pretty much 50/50 with “You Suck” and “Go Jericho, Go!” chants. Edge didn’t really get any reaction at all as he came down. Some nice spots in this match were Edge missing an early spear and practically being immobilized for the next few minutes of the match. Jericho and Benoit showed the crowd what wrestling is all about with a few nice technical sequences on the ground, before being interrupted by Edge, and then the free-for-all began with everyone trying to eliminate someone. Jericho got sent over with a massive clothesline by Edge, and then Benoit was dropkicked over the top rope, and landed on Y2J. Edge would then fly over with a Senton and send them both down to the floor. Edge sent Y2J hard into the turnbuckle, and then brought him back into the ring. Edge was looking for a Spear, but missed once again and was sent shoulder first into the turnbuckle. Y2J then rolled Edge up and put his feet on the ropes, but only got a two count. Y2J then nailed the LionSault, almost out of nowhere and made the cover, but Benoit flew off the top with a Diving Headbutt and broke up the cover. Jericho did not look too happy about this, and started to argue with Benoit. The two friends then started to exchange right hands, and Edge got up and sent them both down to the ground with a Double Spear! He covered Benoit…. And got a TWO. He then covered Y2J straight away, and got a two count again. Edge couldn’t believe it. However Edge fought on strongly and lifted Y2J up, looking for the Edgeocution, but Jericho countered, right into a Northern Lights Suplex, the cover was broken up by Benoit who locked Y2J in the Crossface as the crowd went wild. However Y2J soon got to the ropes, and to his feet as the crowd booed. Benoit tried for a Dropkick, but was caught by Jericho and beautifully turned over into the Walls Of Jericho. Benoit fought and fought, but just couldn’t get out of the move, whatever he tried. It was left to Edge to break the submission hold, just as Benoit was submitting. Edge tried to lock in the Edgeucator on Y2J, but Jericho blocked the move, and then cheaply low-blowed Edge, without the referee seeing. He quickly rolled Edge up, as the referee counted, he put his feet on the ropes, and it was over. Chris Jericho is our new United States Champion folks! And the crowd didn’t like it, one single bit.]

[Afterwards Jericho celebrated as he walked up the ramp, looking more than pleased with himself. Edge, however showed no remorse and left the ring in “bad spirits” to say the least.]

WINNER AND NEW UNITED STATES CHAMPION: Chris Jericho.

We then cut backstage where we see Lita standing by with The Hardy Boyz, having a team talk.

LITA: Matt… and Jeff… I want you to know that whatever happens out there, I’ll still be here when you get back. And remember, as much as this is a Triple Threat contest, it is also a chance for you to show Brock Lesnar whose boss. Just try your hardest, and if it gets too tough, then just stay down….

MATT HARDY: Lita, would you quit being so darn negative about things-

JEFF HARDY: Yeah!

MATT HARDY: We can do this by ourselves; we’re grown men, Lita. It’s what we need to do. We need to make sure that one member of Team Xtreme has some gold around their waist. Come on Jeff!

JEFF HARDY: See you when we get back Lita.

Jeff walks off towards the ring, but Matt hangs back with his girlfriend.

MATT HARDY: Don’t worry baby, everything will be OK.

They start to kiss, but Lita pulls away.

LITA: I hope so.

Matt walks away, following his brother Jeff to the ring as we cut back to the announce table to join JR and King.

JIM ROSS: Well, Lita there looking worried as her boyfriend Matt, and her future brother-in-law, Jeff Hardy make their way down to the ring to face the animal, Brock Lesnar.

JERRY LAWLER: Brock Lesnar has been the talk of RAW since his debut last month. He really is “The Next Big Thing” in my eyes, and in anyone’s eyes.

JIM ROSS: He certainly is one impressive superstar, that’s for sure. He is undefeated going into this match-up, and let’s just show you a clip of what happened to a few superstars who tried to attack him on the way in.

A video package is then shown from Sunday Night Heat where several superstars including Tommy Dreamer, Justin Credible, Johnny Stamboli and Crash Holly tried to attack Brock Lesnar, but failed and ended up getting beat down.

JIM ROSS: And now, “The Next Big Thing” is in action in a Triple Threat Match against both Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy- with the Hardcore Championship on the line!

JERRY LAWLER: I’ll tell ya one thing JR, it isn’t gonna be for the feint hearted, that’s for sure!

HARDCORE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

WWF Hardcore Champion Brock Lesnar w/ Paul Heyman [VS] Jeff Hardy [VS] Matt Hardy

[Not much of a match here to be honest. Things started off well for the Hardy Boyz as they began to work together against “The Next Big Thing”. However they couldn’t seem to knock him down for more than a second or two, as he would bounce right back up to his feet everytime. Lesnar proved to be more than capable of winning the match, and just started to wear both of The Hardy Boyz down, without aid of anything but his bare hands. Not even a chair shot from Matt Hardy could send him off his feet, he simply staggered back and then booted the chair right back into the face of the older Hardy!]

[Jeff tried all his highflying assault, but to no avail, as Lesnar would catch Jeff coming off of an impressive cross body from the top rope, and turn it right into a HUGE powerslam. Not much else followed, apart from Matt hardy, foolishly flying off the top of a ladder with a clothesline, only to be sent down and inside out by a massive clothesline from Lesnar. The double team continued for a little while longer, but Brock sent Jeff flying over the top rope with a HUGE body press. Matt then tried for the Twist of Fate, but Lesnar powered out of it, spun him into an F5, and that was all she wrote for the older Hardy.]

[The savagery didn’t end there however. After the match Lita ran down to ringside, but was pushed away and over the top rope landing awkwardly on her neck. Brock Lesnar would then grab Jeff Hardy and bring him to the top of the stage. Matt Hardy tried to stop Brock, but was grabbed and thrown off the stage by the animal. Brock then lifted Jeff up high above his head and threw him on top of his brother as the crowd booed. Lesnar left the ring, still Hardcore Champion!]

WINNER AND STILL HARDCORE CHAMPION: Brock Lesnar.

We then cut back to the announce desk where JR and King are sitting.

JIM ROSS: Well, that was not a pretty sight ladies and gentlemen. Brock Lesnar just manhandled the Hardy Boyz and Lita. It doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing any of them around here for a long time.

JERRY LAWLER: I just can’t believe how strong Brock Lesnar is. I don’t think anyone will ever be able to get that title off of him.

JIM ROSS: Well I have said this before; Brock Lesnar is an animal. And he is without a shadow of a doubt, living up to his name of “The Next Big Thing”. Well, moving on now folks. The WWF Cruiserweight title is on the line. But who is in the match, here to make the announcement, is the head of Smackdown, Vince McMahon!

“No Chance In Hell” hits the arena, and down comes Mr. McMahon in his usual attire of a business suit. He climbs into the ring, and immediately grabs the microphone and begins to speak as the crowd cheer.

MR. MCMAHON: Well, I am gonna make this quick, as I know you all want to see the Smackdown action that we’ve got for you tonight. We’ve still got the Hero vs. Icon match as The Rock faces Kurt Angle (huge cheers) and the WWF Tag Team titles are on the line as Billy and Chuck take on Al Snow and Maven (small pop). But right now the Cruiserweight title is about to be on the line, in a “Flying” Four Way match-up. And so, would I please welcome down the WWF Cruiserweight Champion, Tajiri, with his…. girlfriend, Torrie Wilson!

Tajiri’s theme hits the arena and then Tajiri makes his way out onto the stage with his girlfriend, Torrie by his side. He climbs into the ring and doesn’t take his eye off of McMahon at all.

MR. MCMAHON: And now could I please welcome down to the ring, the official number one contender, as chosen by myself, Jamie Noble- accompanied by his girlfriend, Nidia!

Jamie Noble’s music hits the arena and then he makes his way out in his hillbilly attire, along with his girlfriend, Tough Enough 1 female winner, Nidia. He climbs into the ring and he keeps one eye on Mr. McMahon and the other on Tajiri.

MR. MCMAHON: Now, as hard as this may sound, the fans, and the Smackdown superstars have spoken. And on Thursday night a poll was put up on WWF.com, and over 500,000 votes were taken. And the two superstars who got the highest percentage would enter the match. And I can now reveal that the superstar who came second, with 149,988 votes is........ BILLY KIDMAN!

Billy Kidman’s music hits the arena and the crowd give a mixed reaction as the former WWF and WCW Cruiserweight Champion makes his way down to the ring. He slides in and then mimes a “thank you” to the fans. McMahon shakes his hand.

MR. MCMAHON: Congratulations Billy, I wish you the best of luck tonight. But, you didn’t get the highest percentage Billy; this man did. He managed to get 269,990 votes and his name is……. CHAVO GUERRERO!

Chavo’s music hits the arena, and the crowd boo as Eddie’s not-so-well-known nephew walks down the ramp and slides into the ring. He however, does not mime a thank you, or any message to the fans, but just smiles at Tajiri, with his eyes firmly set on that Cruiserweight title of his.

MR. MCMAHON: Congratulations gentlemen. Now, without further ado, may the contest commence.

McMahon leaves the ring, and then the referee slides into the ring, and the bell rings as the match officially gets underway.

WWF CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

FLYING FOUR WAY MATCH

Billy Kidman [VS] Chavo Guerrero [VS] Jamie Noble w/ Nidia [VS] Cruiserweight Champion Tajiri w/ Torrie Wilson

[Another short match here tonight, the Cruiserweights weren’t given enough time to actually do more than a spot match. The beginning was good with everyone flying off the top rope; Noble certainly impressed the fans as he flew off the top rope with a Senton onto all three of his other opponents. The match soon became more grounded however as Noble used his technical style to wear down Chavo Guerrero. Noble obviously wasn’t too happy that his singles shot had been ruined by Vince McMahon, and the addition of two more superstars into the match. Champion Tajiri and Billy Kidman obviously still had some bad blood, and the two brawled around the ring for a while before finally coming back in. Tajiri missed an early opportunity, as Kidman ducked that lethal kick of his, and would then send him to the outside with a dropkick. Good stuff in the ring followed between Noble and Chavo as Noble set Chavo up for that Tiger Bomb of his, but Chavo countered the move into a high back body drop which sent Noble to the outside. Billy Kidman then nailed the BK Bomb on Chavo, and had him se up for the Shooting Star Press from the top. Kidman nailed the move, but Noble broke the count just after two, everyone looked reassured after that near fall.]

[Chavo rolled out of the ring to the outside as Noble locked up with Kidman. Kidman tried for that BK Bomb of his, but Noble held onto the ropes and then cheaply delivered a low-blow to Kidman, that the referee didn’t see. Noble then nailed the Tiger Bomb on Kidman and made the cover; Tajiri rolled into the ring and kicked Noble right in the face as the crowd gawped. Tajiri covered Kidman, Chavo broke up the pin. Chavo covered Kidman…. and he kicked out! Nobody could believe this. Torrie got up on the apron and threw Tajiri’s Cruiserweight belt into the ring, however Noble snatched it and floored Tajiri with it while the referee was concentrating on an intruding Nidia on the outside. Noble made the cover and 1…..2…..3! We have a new Cruiserweight Champion!]

[Afterwards Noble and his girlfriend, Nidia shared a snog as Tajiri didn’t look too happy in the ring.]

WINNER AND NEW CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPION: Jamie Noble.

We then cut back to the announce table to join JR and King.

JIM ROSS: Well, that was our third championship match, and we have a new WWF Cruiserweight Champion folks!

JERRY LAWLER: But I am really looking forward to this next match JR!

JIM ROSS: Eddie Guerrero versus Rob Van Dam for the Intercontinental title, oh my!

JERRY LAWLER: The battle of the Frog Splashes.

A video is then shown to hype the following match between Eddie Guerrero and Intercontinental Champion Rob Van Dam. It shows them both using the amazing Frog Splash manoeuvre as well as how they have used the move to gain championships worldwide. We then go back to the ring for the match.

INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

Eddie Guerrero [VS] Intercontinental Champion Rob Van Dam

[WOW is all the fans could say after watching one of the matches of the year so far. Some really good stuff displayed by both men here tonight, and the crowd loved it all. It started out as a technical master class, with neither man really managing to get the edge, but it continued and things started to become faster paced, and bodies were flying everywhere. At more than one point in this match the referee had to inform the workers that they needed to get the victory in the win. Both men battled, and it was pretty back and forth throughout this epic encounter. A nice Rolling Thunder by RVD soon set things in motion as Eddie found it hard to get back into the match. And so Latino Heat had to go dirty and cheap shot RVD while the referee wasn’t looking. However RVD refused to just give up here, and managed to kick out of one of Eddie’s dirty manoeuvres on more than one occasion. Eddie then went for the coveted Frog Splash move, but RVD knocked him off the top rope, and right into the barrier, he had obviously known that the move was coming, as he had executed the move so many times himself.]

[Eddie soon got back into the ring, and after a Low Blow, followed by three hard suplexes to the canvas, it seemed like RVD was out. However he managed to get his knees up as Eddie tried once again to pin RVD with the Frog Splash. But he was unsuccessful, and got both of RVD’s knees instead. RVD then floored Eddie with a stuff kick to the face and went up to the top rope himself and executed a perfect Five Star Frog Splash right in the centre of the ring and got the 1….2….3 as the crowd went wild!]

[Afterwards the crowd applauded both RVD and Eddie Guerrero to a fantastic encounter, but it wasn’t Eddie’s time to show the American fans what kind of man he is. He reluctantly shook RVD’s hand, and then low-blowed him hard, which sent him down to the floor. He went up to the top rope, and nailed his version of the Frog Splash on Van Dam as the crowd showed their disrespect and hatred towards Latino Heat. Eddie didn’t care however; instead he showed the fans the middle finger. This rivalry is far from over.]

WINNER AND STILL INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPION: Rob Van Dam.

We cut right to the back as we see The Rock standing by with The Coach for an interview.

THE COACH: The Rock, tonight you take on Kurt Angle in what many fans are expecting to be the most entertaining match of-

THE ROCK: Shut up for just one minute small-balls, The Rock has something that he’d like to say, something that he has been meaning to say since he arrived here earlier on today. (clears throat) FINALLY….. THE ROCK HAS COME BACK TO KANSAS CITY!

The crowd cheer.

THE COACH: So onto Kurt Ang-

THE ROCK: Would you stop cutting The Rock off when he’s speaking to the people? You know what, look over there, tell The Rock what ya see. Tell him and the fans what you see.

The Coach looks over there, and is pushed aside as The Rock grabs the microphone and talks directly to the camera.

THE ROCK: Jackass, now scram! Tonight Kurt Angle is gonna find out exactly what its like to get beat by the most electrifying man in sports and in entertainment, not just once, but twice. Tonight Kurt Angle, you are The Rock’s bitch, bitch! If ya SMELLLL, WHAT THE ROCK IS COOKIN’!

The Rock gives us the peoples eyebrow, as we cut back to the announce table to join JR and King once more.

JIM ROSS: Now, this is certainly going to be an interesting contest!

JERRY LAWLER: Indeed it is JR. I can’t wait!

We then cut to the ring as the superstars make their way out to the ring.

HERO VS. ICON MATCH

Kurt Angle [VS] The Rock

[both superstars took their time getting down to the ring for this match, and the crowd was pretty much 50/50 behind either man, despite their previous dispositions. Some very good chain wrestling attempts by Kurt Angle at the beginning, but it didn’t really work on The Rock, and Kurt Angle’s mat-based offence did very little to hurt The Great One. Things got back to a usual slow-paced brawl, with Kurt Angle still managing to keep control of things in the ring. Early attempts at the three German suplexes by Angle failed, as The Rock saw them coming, and would quickly dash to the ropes. The Rock would then “lay the Smackdown “ all over Kurt Angle and send him into the corner, an early Rock Bottom followed, and Angle was nearly pinned, but managed to get the shoulder up as the crowd booed and cheered respectively. The match then took a turn as Angle sent The Rock to the outside and then they brawled around the announce table- much to the disgust and horror of JR and King. Angle then tried for a Suplex, but the move was countered by The Rock, and Angle was sent through the announce table with a thunderous Rock Bottom. The crowd were in awe as both men made the slow crawl back into the ring as Earl Hebner counted away like crazy. Both men eventually got in the ring, and then The Rock made the cover on Angle…. but Angle kicked out. The crowd, The Rock, the referee and even poor old table less JR and King were shocked at this show of strength by the Olympic Hero.]

[Angle then got back up, and then out of nowhere locked The Rock in a waistlock, and then took him over for a German Suplex, he kept the hands locked tight, and then sent him over once again. He didn’t release the grip however, and nailed a third one on The Rock. He then took off his straps, which was the signal for the anklelock as the crowd gave him a mixed reaction. He locked in the deadly manoeuvre, but The Rock managed to quickly get to the ropes with little fuss. The Rock got back up and walked right into another German Suplex, Angle holds on, another German, and then one more for extra measure. Angle then lifted The Rock up for the Angle Slam, and then made the cover, but this time it was The Brahma Bull’s turn to kick out, as everyone in the arena looked shocked. Angle then locked the anklelock in once again, and this time The Rock was in the centre of the ring and it was more difficult for him to get to the ropes, he was almost there, but Angle pulled him back into the centre, and twisted the ankle even more, The Rock twisted and turned, but still Angle remained relentless, and kept the submission locked in. The Rock finally managed to get out of the hold, and sent Angle into the corner with quite a force. The Rock started to get back to his feet, and then locked in a waistlock, setting The Rock up for another German Suplex, but The Rock knocked him down. Angle charged at The Rock, but was sent down hard to the canvas with a Spine Buster. He then threw that elbow pad off and then nailed The People’s Elbow and made the subsequent cover, and that was enough to secure the three count as the crowd cheered wildly for The Great One.]

[Afterwards The Rock celebrated in the ring as Angle walked up the ramp, not looking too happy with his lack of victory this evening.]

WINNER: The Rock.

We then cut back to the announce table where we join JR and King who have been talking about Victoria.

JIM ROSS: Victoria debuted in the WWF a couple of weeks ago, and she has impressed us all with her style, but not everyone with her approach.

[Footage is shown of her attacking Trish Stratus on RAW in her debut appearance.]

JERRY LAWLER: She has also taken a liking to the WWF Women’s Champion, Jazz, which is a wise move, and definitely one that is getting her noticed tonight.

JIM ROSS: So tonight it’ll be Lita and Trish taking on WWF Women’s Champion Jazz, and impressive newcomer, Victoria.

JERRY LAWLER: Whip-On-A-Pole JR, Whip-On-A-Pole! Woooooooo!

We then cut to the ring where Howard Finkel is running down the rules of the contest and whatnot before the match officially starts.

WHIP-ON-A-POLE TAG TEAM MATCH

Jazz & Victoria [VS] Lita & Trish

[A very short tag team contest between the diva’s here tonight. Women’s Champion Jazz wasn’t too keen to get in the ring, and so let new diva on the block, Victoria handle some of the in ring action. Victoria dominated Trish and Lita, and went straight for that whip, but was stopped quickly by Lita. Lita and Trish then started to work together to beat-down Victoria, and that’s when Jazz decided to set foot in the ring. She grabbed the whip right from underneath Lita’s nose, and whipped the hell out of Lita. However, Victoria had hidden a whip in her ring jacket, and so she bended the rules and whipped Trish right on the back and then nailed an impressive finisher, which she has self-titled The Widows Peak, and got the 1-2-3 as the crowd booed.]

[Afterwards Women’s Champion Jazz and Victoria continued the assault on both Lita and Trish before they were separated by a bunch of referee’s.]

WINNERS: Jazz & Victoria

A video is then shown to hype the tag team of Billy and Chuck, as well as their new effeminate stylist and manager, Rico.

WWF TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

WWF Tag Team Champions Billy & Chuck w/ Rico [VS] Al Snow & Maven

[Another slow paced match here, as the WWF Tag Team Champions weren’t too keen to have to defend their titles here. Rico stayed at the side of the ring, but he (and Billy and Chuck) got a small surprise as the challengers made their way out to the ring with none other than Rikishi. So with one man in each team’s corner, things were looking a little more even. Some decent, yet flawed stuff to begin with. The champions managed to isolate the more inexperienced, Maven from his legendary team mate, Al Snow. A nice dropkick by Maven soon swung things in the way of the challengers. Some good wrestling between Palumbo and Snow followed, with Billy finally interfering as Snow lifted Palumbo up for the Snowplough. Out of nowhere Gunn nailed the Fameasser, and then Maven was knocked off the apron, but the referee refused to count as Rico got up on the apron.]

[Neither Billy or Chuck seemed too happy about this, and so soon started to argue with their effeminate stylist. Maven quickly got into the ring and rolled Billy up, and almost got a three count. Rico slid a title belt into the ring, and Billy grabbed it and right in front of the referee’s eyes floored Maven with it, out of frustration if nothing else. The referee rang the bell signalling the DQ, but Billy and Chuck didn’t look startled at all.]

[Afterwards Rikishi had to slide into the ring and we were treated to a massive brawl as the champions and Rico started to get beaten by the challengers and Rikishi. The referee eventually had to stop the contest and send both of the parties off separately.]

WINNERS BY DISQUALIFICATION: Al Snow & Maven (Billy & Chuck are STILL WWF Tag Team Champions).

We then cut to the announce desk once again.

JIM ROSS: Well coming up next we have a Triple Threat Match for the number one contendership.

JERRY LAWLER: I am really interested in seeing what happens with JBL. He is hell-bent on ruining Stone Cold’s life. And I have learnt two things while being in the WWF. One that you don’t mess with Austin, and two that you don’t mess with Austin when it concerns the WWF title. And JBL did both JR, both!

JIM ROSS: You can certainly say that again King!

We then cut to the ring for the actual match as JR and King waffle on.

NUMBER ONE CONTENDERSHIP MATCH

John Bradshaw Layfield w/ EZ Money [VS] Steve Austin [VS] The Undertaker

[The fans booed like crazy for the newly reformed John Bradshaw Layfield as he made his way down to the ring along with his personal assistant, EZ Money. Stone Cold got the biggest reaction, but The Undertaker still got quite an astonishing reaction from his legion of fans. This was nothing more than a typical Main Event style brawl, but was decent nonetheless. The action went to the outside for a little while as both Austin and Taker wanted to get their hands on JBL. They brawled through the crowd for a little while, but then brought the action back into the ring- after The Undertaker was sent hard into the steel steps, which knocked him down and out of action for a short while. Austin started to really wear down JBL and quickly had him in the corner and was stomping one hell of a “mudhole” in JBL’s chest. The Undertaker quickly got back into the ring and soon nailed a Chokeslam on Austin, before trying to nail one on JBL, JBL prevented it, and gauged the eyes of the American Badass. JBL then tried for his finisher, the Clothesline From Hell, but The Undertaker ducked and JBL hit the referee in another “accidentally-on-purpose” moment of the evening. While The Undertaker and Austin didn’t look too happy, JBL was the exact opposite, he was delighted that the referee was down.]

[Austin and Taker soon started to work together to wear down the arrogant reformed Bradshaw character. However the partnership turned sour as Austin stuck a middle finger up and then nailed a Stone Cold Stunner on The Undertaker he made the cover, but there was no referee, and Stone Cold was in shock. JBL got up, and walked right into a Stunner from Austin. Austin covered, but again there was no referee, but down came nWo members Kevin Nash and Scott Hall. They beat down Austin, as JBL looked on and the crowd booed. Nash nailed an impressive Nashknife Powerbomb on Austin, while Hall sent The Undertaker over the top rope to the outside, and then tossed him over the barrier. JBL was then placed on top of Austin, and the referee revived to see the cover and counted, 1……..2………3! JBL is the new number one contender!]

[Afterwards Nash threw JBL (and his personal assistant EZ Money) an nWo shirt and after much deliberation JBL put the shirt on, shook both Kevin Nash and Scott Hall’s hands and then the four of them left the ring in JBL’s spacious limousine as the nWo’s theme music hit the arena and the crowd booed.]

WINNER AND NUMBER ONE CONTENDER: John Bradshaw Layfield.

We then cut to the announce desk where we join JR and King, as they look excitedly at the camera on the brink of the Main Event of the evening.

JIM ROSS: Well, I don’t think that this next match- our Main Event of the evening- needs any introduction. Hulk Hogan versus WWF Undisputed Champion Triple H for the title!

JERRY LAWLER: It is gonna be like Rock vs. Hogan all over again, and I, for one, cannot wait!

JIM ROSS: I see someone’s certainly excited. But for those of you out there who don’t know, here is how it all started.

[A video is then shown highlighting the feud between Hulk Hogan and Triple H which had been brewing since WrestleMania last month.]

WWF UNDISPUTED CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

Hulk Hogan [VS] WWF Undisputed Champion Triple H

[Hogan came down to his old school, “Real American” theme, and the crowd loved seeing Hogan back in his original red and yellow colours. One hell of a contest here between two of the greatest talents to ever set foot in a WWE ring. The fans simply loved it right from the word go, and were strongly behind both champion and challenger. Not much to report for the match, and much like his encounter with The Rock last month at WrestleMania, this was just a match for the crowd’s reaction alone. The fans were practically non-stop as Hogan and HHH went through a slow-paced match. Triple H got booed as he knocked Hogan off his feet with a chop block to the knee; he then started to live the lie and started to concentrate on just winning the match. Triple H almost had Hogan pinned after a Superplex from the second rope which shook the ring, and nearly broke Hogan in half. Hogan got straight back up however and started to “Hulk Up” as the crowd got behind the legend. Triple H broke this short burst of momentum with a thunderous pedigree, but Hogan shocked the Kansas City crowd after he not only kicked out, but started to “Hulk Up” once again.]

[The usual routine of punch, block, punch, block, punch, block, followed by the whip into the ropes, then the Big Boot, and then the taunting a the Kansas City crowd went into a frenzy cheering on their hero. Hogan then dropped the big leg across the throat of The Game, and made the cover, and got the three. The crowd went wild.]

[Afterwards Hogan celebrated this win, which marks the start of his sixth reign as WWF Champion. Triple H got to his feet, and at first started to walk up the ramp, but then returned to the ring and shook his head in awe. Triple H then shook hands with Hogan, congratulating him on his victory tonight. Triple H and Hogan then taunted together in the ring as Backlash came off air with the entire arena full of fans, as well as JR and King going wild!]

WINNER AND NEW WWF CHAMPION: Hulk Hogan.

The following news pieces have been taken from WWF.com and are copyrighted to the World Wrestling Federation:

News & Notes

22nd April 2002

- The booking decision for the Hogan vs. Triple H was kept under wraps, and it is believed that only Hogan, McMahon and Triple H knew the decision beforehand. The main reason why Hulk Hogan won the match is because in his contract which he signed earlier on this year a clause of one title reign was put in, with this obviously being the one reign mentioned.

- Chris Kanyon and Rob Conway have impressed the staff down at OVW, and have been promoted to the full roster. Kanyon is expected to join the Hardcore/jobber division on RAW as a tweener, while Conway shall head to Smackdown as a heel going solo...

- On the first of May, Vince McMahon, and his legal team will fly to the UK for a court hearing which will decide whether or not the World Wrestling Federation can use the famous WWF initials that they have been using for over twenty years.

- Backlash drew a 0.85 buyrate. And while it's down from last year's buyrate, it is still an impressive outcome considering the downfall in the buyrates of WrestleMania X8 last month.

- As stated many times before, the match of the night was the Intercontinental title match between Rob Van Dam and Eddie Guerrero. That match, along with the opener, Rock vs. Angle and the Main Event made the show a success in many fans eyes.

- The Rock is taking some time off to film scenes for the final movie in The Mummy trilogy, The Scorpion King. He is expected to be out until the beginning of July, and he will return to the ring.

- Mr. McMahon has stated that he was very impressed with what the Cruiserweight's did last night, and is said to be very keen on the division as a whole, and hopes that within the next year it'll become crucial Smackdown viewing. McMahon is also quite keen on the Women's division.

- Despite many criticisms and hate mail, the first month of the brand extension has been a success, but not to the degree that WWF CEO's would have thought. They are hoping that next months PPV, Judgment Day will be able to outdo Backlash, despite rookie Main Eventer, JBL appearing in the Main Event. However, we hope to build a strong card up around that- and may need to lend a face or two from the old WWF year book.

- World-class Cruiserweight's and fan favourites Juvented Guerrera, Rey Mysterio, Psicosis and (rumoured) Super Crazy/El Loco have all been offerred contracts of some sort to work with the WWF over the weekend. There has been no response yet, apart from a phone call from Psicosis just confirming contractual information. We are hoping that the addition of one, more, or (hopefully) all of these Cruiserweight's to Smackdown's Cruiserweight division will really boost the division overall. More on this as it comes folks.

I liked Backlash.

JBL as a main eventer is what i dont like, espically if you have people like Angle,Triple H,Austin,Taker,Kane, and the NWO,i dont think that JBL should've won the match, just start a feud with Austin.(and this is a good idea)

I like the things in the Smackdown side, with an expected Edge turn, and a Benoit-Jericho feud.

But now,i can just wonder what happens with Angle...

Oh well.

Cant wait for RAW!

TITLE CONTROVERSY

April 22nd 2002

When Intercontinental Champion Rob Van Dam took on Eddie Guerrero in a rematch for the Intercontinental Championship this past week on RAW everyone knew that the match would steal the show based on the greatness of the match, but it was filled with controversy. It was a great match, and very back and forth, with the St. Louis crowd heavily behind champion RVD to retain, but Eddie Guerrero- the more experienced in Ladder Matches- gave it his all out there tonight, and did everything that he could to try and take the title away from Van Dam.

The ladder was used so many times during this match, and not just to get the gold either. Eddie used it several times to bust the champion wide open, but RVD used it in a very punishing way towards the end of the match. RVD would nail his impressively acrobatic manoeuvre that he calls The Rolling Thunder right through the ladder onto Eddie Guerrero- crushing Eddie’s ribs in the process, most definitely. However RVD would then begin the long climb up the ladder and due to almost twenty minutes of enduring pain by Eddie, his climb was a very slow and struggling one. Eddie managed to get up, and he practically ran up the ladder, and at the top, the fight began for the gold. Eddie and RVD looped one of their arms through the title belt, and fought with the spare hand that each of them had, with the crowd cheering them both on equally. And then the ladder gave way. It sent both superstars crashing down to the floor, holding the Intercontinental title belt that they had been holding just seconds before. The referee’s on the outside were confused, and had to watch replays of the fall. Their conclusion was that both men were holding the belt, and so therefore there was no winner. Ric Flair made his way down to the ring and he looked confused too, he said that he didn’t want this match to be called a draw- because that doesn’t happen on Ric Flair’s RAW. He said that he would award the title to the superstar whom he felt had worked hardest in the match, and that was your new Intercontinental Champion, Eddie Guerrero!

The crowd went into a frenzy of booing and other unheard chants as many of them believed that Ric Flair had screwed Rob Van Dam just one night after Backlash! Keep watching RAW to find out how this situation develops.

Hulk Hogan made his first appearance on RAW as the WWF Undisputed Champion too, and was soon met by nWo members, number one contender John Bradshaw Layfield and his personal assistant, EZ Money. JBL bragged at how Hogan had lost his chance, and had done the dumbest thing in his career by leaving the nWo, and that he would pay the price for what he did. JBL ordered Hogan at Backlash to do the right thing and to lay down, or to forfeit the title over to JBL- or that would be the end for Hulk Hogan and the WWF, period. Hogan didn’t back down from JBL, and went straight to fight the cocky challenger, but was stopped by JBL’s fellow nWo members, Hall and Nash. However nothing else followed as all they did was prevent Hogan from attacking JBL, and then make their way to the back ready for their match.

And what a semi-main event we were treated to tonight. The nWo were practically booed out of the building as they made their way out to take on Steve Austin and The Brothers of Destruction (The Undertaker & Kane). It was a pretty back and forth contest, but the nWo were no match for either of their opponents. JBL and Austin still had bad feelings towards each other, and were very vicious with their attacks. In the end though it would be a cheap shot on the outside by EZ Money which sent The Undertaker down, and then a Clothesline From Hell by JBL on Austin, and the match was won. JBL pins Austin for the second night in a row. Afterwards the nWo tried to do a trademark assault on Austin, and got a spray can out to do the usual routine on Steve Austin’s back, but “Real American” hit the arena, and the nWo were terrified and quickly fled from the ring, despite no Hulk Hogan actually coming out. They all climbed into JBL’s limo and got the hell out of the arena before anything else could happen. Afterwards Austin, The Undertaker and Kane shared a few beers. At Judgment Day JBL meets Hulk Hogan for the WWF Undisputed Championship folks, and with the nWo by his side, it looks almost definite that JBL will take that title from the legend.

Another superstar who was at RAW tonight was former WWF Undisputed Champion, Triple H. He had been informed by WWF management that he needed to make his choice pretty soon, but he didn’t want to make it right now. He said that next week he’d make his decision by turning up to one of the two brands. If he turned up on RAW he’d be on RAW, and if he turned up on Smackdown, then he’d be on Smackdown. The clock is ticking for Triple H, will he join us here next week in Buffalo for RAW, or will he be over in Pittsburg for Smackdown? Watch WWF programming next week to find out!

And, in other news on RAW Brock Lesnar was in action as he faced the younger Hardy brother, Jeff in a singles match. And as to be expected, it wasn’t very pretty at all. Brock first won the match, which wasn’t much of a match as Jeff didn’t even manage to knock the animal off his feet, and was soon given the F5 onto a trash can. Afterwards Jeff tried to fight back, but after his injuries from last night was beaten up again by Lesnar- and thrown off the stage again. This time his injuries could indeed be critical, as Jeff was whisked away by the RAW medical team. But Brock Lesnar just had that same vicious look on his face, almost as if he was hapy about it. And Paul Heyman looked even happier with the injuries that Brock Lesnar may have given Jeff. They left the ring together as Matt Hardy and Lita tended to their loved one. Brock Lesnar is an animal, and he may very well be unstoppable here in the WWF.

In other action, Victoria managed to impress the world with a win over Women’s Champion, Trish Stratus in a tough diva contest. Despite Trish’s best efforts, Victoria proved that she is definitely the new diva in town, as she managed to kick out of the Stratusfaction and then get straight back up and nail her impressive finisher, the Widow’s Peak as the crowd went wild. Victoria has now pinned Trish two nights straight. Afterwards Women’s Champion, Jazz and Victoria beat down Trish, but this time it would be Jacqueline who would save Trish from an assault. Trish thanked Jacqueline for the help, but Jacqueline soon showed her true colours and turned her back on Trish, and it was once again a diva assault. With Jacqueline now turning her back on Trish, it seems that Trish is now all alone in the diva world.

Also, new RAW superstar Charlie Haas managed to defeat fellow new RAW superstar. Johnny Stamboli in singles action in a decent opening match. Afterwards Stamboli attacked the referee

So, the aftermath RAW following Backlash was certainly an entertaining one. With many questions still unanswered it seems that WWF programming will now be unmissable. Don't forget to tune into RAW next week for more great WWF action!

Match Results:

Charlie Haas def. Johnny Stamboli

Victoria def. Trish Stratus

WWF Hardcore Champion Brock Lesnar def. Jeff Hardy

The nWo def. Steve Austin & The Brothers of Destruction

Eddie Guerrero def. Rob Van Dam in a Ladder Match to win the Intercontinental title (by Ric Flair’s decision)

GAME DENIED

April 25th 2002

Smackdown was full of excitement this week as things got off to an explosive start as former WWF Undisputed Champion, Triple H made his way out. He remained in the ring, stating that if he were to come to Smackdown then he’d need to sort a few contractual issues out. He demanded a title shot right here tonight, but Vince McMahon didn’t give it to Triple H, and instead offered him a number one contender’s match at Judgment Day against Chris Benoit. Triple H declined the offer, and said that he’d think about it, but that it didn’t seem likely that he’d be on Smackdown next week. Will The Game be on Smackdown next week, or will he be on RAW? Watch RAW and Smackdown next week to find out!

The WWF Undisputed Champion, Hulk Hogan was on Smackdown too as he defended the title against handpicked opponent, WWF legend, Greg “The Hammer” Valentine. The two veterans of the ring had a very good contest, however champion Hogan managed to retain the title here. Afterwards Y2J made his way down to the ring and publically slated Hogan, and informed the world that Greg Valentine was his Icon, and how he wanted just to team with Valentine just once. And despite the fans warning Valentine not to do the deed, he joined forces with Jericho, and together they attacked Hogan and busted him wide open as Smackdown came to an end this Thursday night.

Another surprise appearance was that of RAW superstar, Spike Dudley who vowed to get his European Championship back from Test in a rematch for the title. However the match didn’t go Spike’s way as Test’s new friends on Smackdown, fellow Canadian superstars, Christian and Lance Storm attacked the younger Dudley before he could even get into the ring. A Big Boot followed, and Test retained the title. Afterwards, Christian, Lance Storm and Test informed everyone how they were all fed up of being overlooked here on Smackdown and how they were going to prove that Canadian’s are the superior force here in the WWF. The UnAmerican’s left the ring looking pleased with themselves to say the least.

Another superstar who wasn’t too happy with the events of Backlash was the Olympic Hero, Kurt Angle. He made his way down to the ring and began to rant about The Rock, and tried to force The People’s Champion to make his way out here. However, as to be expected, Rocky was nowhere to be found, and Kurt Angle was informed that he was indeed in Hollywood filming scenes for his next movie, The Scorpion King. Kurt did not look too happy about this, and neither did the Smackdown fans to be honest.

In other action Jamie Noble managed to get another win here in the WWF, by defeating Billy Kidman via disqualification in his non-title opening match. The match was very fast-paced, and brought a lot to the table, but in the end it would be a distraction by Nidia, who slid the Cruiserweight title belt into the ring for Noble to use, but Kidman picked it up and used it, knocking the champion out. However the referee saw the dirty trick, and immediately disqualified Kidman, allowing Noble to escape with the victory. Afterwards Kidman and Noble weren’t the only two Cruiserweight’s in the ring. Former champion Tajiri as well as other top contenders such as Funaki, Chavo Guerrero, Scotty 2 Hotty and Shannon Moore stormed into the ring and it was Cruiserweight mayhem in the ring. With bodies pretty much flying all over the place, it was very difficult, damn near impossible infact for the referee to put an end to this unwanted chaos, but eventually he did, and all the Cruiserweights were sent to the back. Things are definitely heating up in the Cruiserweight division.

Chris Benoit and Edge were still irate about losing at Backlash to Chris Jericho, but started to argue with each other about the loss, and so, subsequently will fight each other next week on Smackdown in what many are expecting to steal the show. There is certainly still a lot of bad blood between these two superstars on Smackdown.

Also tonight Al Snow met Lance Storm in an unsettling contest. It was a great contest, but with Lance Storm having so many members of his “entourage” which tonight included the WWF Tag Team Champions, Billy and Chuck (Rico joined Cole and Tazz for commentary) as well as his own UnAmerican team mates, Christian and Test. However despite his heavy entourage it would still be Al Snow picking up the win with a well-timed Snowplough. Afterwards Billy and Chuck entered the ring, and started to beat down Al Snow and Maven. The UnAmerican’s stayed back for a while, but soon climbed into the ring and started beating up the WWF Tag Team Champions, proving that they really are as sneaky as everybody says they are. Vince McMahon soon put a stop to the chaos, and announced that next week he was booking a Triple Threat Match between Maven, Christian and WWF Tag Team Champion Chuck Palumbo. Meanwhile he’ll be busy deciding which team will head to Judgment Day on May 19th in Nashville to fight for the gold.

So, don’t miss next weeks Smackdown in Buffalo to find out whether Triple H will be joining the blue side, as well as for that excellent three way contest.

Match Results:

Cruiserweight Champion Jamie Noble def. Billy Kidman (DQ) in a non-title contest

European Champion Test def. Spike Dudley

Al Snow def. Lance Storm

WWF Undisputed Champion Hulk Hogan def. Greg “The Hammer” Valentine

Note: I edited the roster, as well as the Smackdown preview before this post to explain why Valentine is back.

WWF SIGNS LUCHADORE ATHLETES

Juventud Guerrera, Psicosis and Super Crazy have all signed three-year deals with the WWF this past weekend, and will be added to the federations world-class Cruiserweight division over on Smackdown. No word has been heard from Rey Mysterio regarding his contract negotiations though.

RAW Preview

April 29th 2002

Buffalo, NY

Last week on RAW saw Ric Flair make one of the most controversial decisions in the history of the programme, as he allowed a Ladder Match for the Intercontinental title between Eddie Guerrero and (then) champion, Rob Van Dam. Flair decided to give the win and title to Eddie Guerrero, which didn't impress many of RAW's fans last Monday night. Tonight, this big story shall develop as we shall be treated to a tag team contest as our Main Event. And, in other news expect the number one contender, JBL to have some more things to say to WWF Undisputed Champion, Hulk Hogan as both superstars shall appear on RAW tonight in what is expected to be a hostile environment. And don't expect a 100% clean contest as fellow nWo member, Scott Hall shall be at ringside for the contest.

Also tonight WWF Hardcore Champiom, Brock Lesnar takes on Matt Hardy. After putting Jeff Hardy in hospital last week on RAW, after several injuries, including a concussion, Matt Hardy wants to get some revenge on Lesnar. Will Lesnar be able to destroy another Hardy? Watch RAW to find out.

THE MEMORIES OF ECW LIVE ON

April 29th 2002

When Bubba Ray Dudley teamed with Rob Van Dam in RAW’s Main Event this week, we were reminded just how much of an impact the Philadelphia-born promotion, that was known as ECW was. Thanks to a last minute change by Ric Flair the match was turned into a No Disqualification contest, and it was all out anarchy as the two former ECW alumni teamed against new Intercontinental Champion Eddie Guerrero and his partner for the night, the five time WCW Champion, Booker T. The match didn’t really work in the way in which Flair had hoped for, as RVD and Bubba obviously had more experience in this kind of match. Tables, ladders, chairs, lead pipes and trash cans were only a few of the items used in this brutal encounter. And despite Eddie nailing a Frog Splash from the top of the Ladder, it would still be RVD picking up the win as he and Bubba would send Booker T through a table with the old Dudley finisher, the 3D. We were informed by Ric Flair that he wanted to be firm but fair, and so at Judgment Day in Nashville there would be a Triple Threat Match for the Intercontinental Championship, featuring champion Guerrero taking on Van Dam and Booker T. With the odds heavily stacked against him, will the champion be able to retain?

Another superstar who had the odds stacked against him was the WWF Undisputed Champion Hulk Hogan who showed up on RAW to call out John Bradshaw Layfield. However, JBL failed to show up on RAW, and instead spoke from his new home in New York City, while EZ Money and the rest of the nWo headed to the ring to attack Hogan, however The Brother of Destruction ran down to save Hogan from the attack, and challenged the nWo to a six man tag team contest, which they abruptly accepted. In a short brawl-like contest it would finally be Hogan nailing the leg drop on JBL’s personal assistant, EZ Money that would get the win for his team. Afterwards JBL stormed down to the ring to attack Hogan, but it backfired on him. Because while the rest of the nWo were brawling with The Undertaker and Kane on the outside, JBL had no back-up plan. JBL was soon thrown out of the ring by the legend of the ring, and the nWo were forced to retreat to the back. This issue definitely isn’t over.

And much to the fans disappointment, it doesn't seem like The Game shall be joining the RAW superstars. He failed to show up on RAW, and wasn't seen anywhere near the arena.

‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin was in action tonight as he took on Mr. Perfect in a match that, to be honest with you, didn’t go too perfect at all for the old-time technician. Austin would counter a Perfectplex by grabbing hold of the ropes. He then spun Perfect round and planted him with a Stunner to pick up the win. Afterwards Steve Austin celebrated in the ring with a beer, but Perfect cheap-shotted him before leaving the ring. After the match Flair said that he liked Mr. Perfect’s courage and said that at Judgment Day they’d go one on one again, with perhaps a much more interesting result. One thing for sure is that Perfect definitely showed some courage out there tonight.

Also in action tonight was the WWF Hardcore Champion, Brock Lesnar. The RAW animal went up against Matt Hardy tonight, and Matt wasn’t the least bit sympathetic towards Lesnar. He managed to get in some offence at first, but then the animal completely destroyed him as his agent Paul Heyman cheered him on from the outside. Matt’s girlfriend Lita was in tears as she had to watch her boyfriend receive FOUR stiff powerbombs onto the hard canvas, before finally being pinned with Lesnar’s devastating finishing manoeuvre- the F5. After the match Lita stormed into the ring to aid her boyfriend Matt, but was victim to the F5 herself. Heyman looked ecstatic on the outside as he left the ring happily with his client STILL the WWF Hardcore Champion. It seems as if Brock Lesnar has taken out everyone who has stood in his way.

And finally, the WWF Women’s Champion Jazz was in action on RAW this week. She was defending her title against Trish Stratus. However, as to be expected the champion wasn’t alone. Her usual associates Jacqueline, Molly Holly and Victoria were by her side, and guided her to a victory and a retaining of the title tonight on RAW. Tonight Trish came close, but as Jazz made a point of saying after the match, she failed to come close enough. Jacqueline, Jazz, Molly Holly and Victoria claimed that they were “untouchable” in the Women’s division. And after their display tonight, that may very well be the truth.

So, don’t forget to join us next week on RAW as we edge closer and closer to Judgment Day in Nashville, TN where all your favourite RAW and Smackdown superstars shall be.

Match Results:

WWF Women's Champion Jazz def. Trish Stratus

WWF Hardcore Champion Brock Lesnar def. Matt Hardy

The Brothers of Destruction & Hulk Hogan def. The nWo (EZ Money, Kevin Nash & Scott Hall)

Steve Austin def. Mr. Perfect

Bubba Ray Dudley & Rob Van Dam def. Booker T & Intercontinental Champion Eddie Guerrero

Note: I edited the roster again.

WWF LOSES LAWSUIT WITH THE WORLD WILDLIFE FUND

- 1st May 2002

Today WWF Chairman Vince McMahon and his legal representatives co flew over to London, England for the court-hearing over the copyrights to the initals "WWF" that they share with the World Wildlife Fund. After a long day in court it was decided that we can no longer use the initials on any future footage, DVD releases and any information on the federations related websites. This means the loss of the most visited and most searched for web address of "WWF.com" as from tomorrow morning. The company had been dreading this for months, and have already proposed a plan B. The company shall now go under the name of World Wrestling Entertainment, using the initals WWE. This change was made due to the promotion now being more of an Entertainment organisation than a federation. Vince McMahon left the courtroom broken, but far from defeated.

IT’S GAME TIME

May 2nd 2002

After not showing up on RAW this past Monday night in Buffalo, Mr. McMahon was delighted to welcome The Game to Smackdown tonight, and the whole show was indeed themed around the Smackdown-exclusive return of The Game. Highlights of The Game’s greatest matches and moments on Smackdown were shown throughout the night and at the top end of the night, Triple H’s music hit the arena and he made his way down to the ring, and confirmed his new position on Smackdown. McMahon wanted to capitalize on this opportunity and abruptly made Triple H the special guest referee in the contest between Edge and Chris Benoit which was our Main Event tonight.

The Game was a great referee in this contest. And surprisingly he called things right down the middle, and after an excellent contest, it’d be Edge who would escape with the win after making Benoit tap out to the Edgeucator. One man who wasn’t too happy with Triple H’s refereeing in the contest was United States Champion, Chris Jericho who watched on from ringside with Michael Cole and Tazz. He claimed that the decision should be reversed and even went as far as calling Triple H an assclown. Obviously the two still have some bad feelings for one another, and this certainly wasn’t made any easier by an assault that occurred as Smackdown ended. With Benoit teaming with Chris Jericho and Greg Valentine- who earlier announced that he was coaching Jericho- beatdown on Edge and Triple H. However the assault wouldn’t last too long as WWE Undisputed Champion Hulk Hogan stopped the assault, helping out Edge and the man who he beat just two weeks ago at Backlash. Seeing the chaos, as well as an opportunity to outdo RAW, McMahon booked a killer Main Event for next weeks Smackdown in Bridgeport which shall see WWE Undisputed Champion Hogan team up with Edge and Triple H to take on United States Champion Chris Jericho, his tag team partner Chris Benoit and his coach, Greg "The Hammer" Valentine making a return to ring-action. That should certainly get some ratings for McMahon. However Edge will have longer term plans, which include taking that United States title that he was cheated out of at Backlash, when he meets with Y2J at Judgment Day in Nashville on May 19th.

And ratings was the talk of the night as several Smackdown superstars including Albert, Scotty 2 Hotty and Rikishi made bets with each other to see what would be the highest-rated segment of Smackdown, and decided to conduct a fan poll. They shall reveal the results of this “top secret” poll next week!

Smackdown had a whole new look, as we have shed the initials of the past, and tonight we donned the three new initials of WWE. Several Smackdown superstars in the back had to speak about in the back, as many superstars donned the new WWE t-shirts which are available from WWE Shopzone.

In the ring however action got off to a great start with a massive Cruiserweight clashing as new tag team on the block Psicosis and Super Crazy teamed up with Billy Kidman and Scotty 2 Hotty to take on Chavo Guerrero, Juventud Guerrera, Tajiri and Cruiserweight Champion Jamie Noble. Smackdown newbie, Psicosis managed to pick up the pinfall victory over champion Noble, after a moonsault from the top rope.

In other action, the contest between Olympic Hero Kurt Angle and The Godfather reached new heights as Hollywood actress Pamela Anderson made her way out arm in arm with The Godfather. Kurt was distracted by this new ho of The Godfather’s a lot during this match. However Angle managed to get back on track and managed to make The Father tap out to the Anklelock. Afterwards Kurt called Pamela into the ring and asked her for a “friendly hug” but got kicked down below by the hot actress. Afterwards The Godfather left the ring, again arm in arm with Pamela Anderson. And it is believed that in the back after the show, The Godfather put Pam in a submisison of his own- the Lip Lock...

Decisions, decisions, decisions were the words on everyone’s lips tonight. And Mr. McMahon had a lot of them to make tonight. He watched the match between Maven, Christian and Ron Simmons and after Christian forced the match to go to a DQ after he knocked both Maven and Simmons down and out with a steel chair. McMahon stormed out of his office and down to the ring and announced that at Judgment Day we would see the return of the Tag Team Turmoil as five tag teams would compete in the match that was last seen at No Way Out. This time the teams competing would be WWE Tag Team Champions Billy & Chuck, Al Snow & Maven, Christian & Lance Storm, D-Von Dudley & Ron Simmons and one team yet to be decided by Mr. McMahon next week on Smackdown. The tag team division has never been more popular.

So, don't forget to join us next week on Smackdown in Bridgewater for the follow-up to this massive show, with that massive Main Event and McMahon’s decision as to who the final tag team in the Tag Team Turmoil match will be. Thursday nights have never been this entertaining.

Match Results:
