Penetance Query

Hi I need to ask if anybody can tell me what the objects were called that people purchased from the Catholic Church in order to 'buy' repentance/penetance. Its one of the elements in the creation of Protestantism. The Catholic Church was heavily criticised for selling these objects... but damnit, I don't remember what they were called as a unit. People would commit a sin, and then buy an object from the monks who were hauking these sacred things...

If anybody can help it would be the finishing touch of a script ive had in development since last october. And about time, since we shoot in three weeks!
