SUBJECT: WLW Report for August 2006

Marc Godecker suffered some problems with his nose after a stiff kick in his last match, but it’s back to 100% now. It didn’t cause him to miss any in-ring time, but it was a concern for a few weeks. I’ll keep you posted if anything changes.

On the business end of things we’ve never been more popular, but it’s costing us quite a bit financially. We’re almost ready to start touring regionally, but we lost almost $160,000 last month. That leaves us with just over $150,000 in the bank. If we end up losing the same amount of cash we’ve lost the last few months we’re going to be in the red and that’s not going to be good for anyone. We’re looking at cutting back on our advertising campaign for “Total Destruction” among other things to try and turn a profit this month. It might cost us a little in the short term, but we need to make money as soon as possible.

WLW TV Episode 12 - September 2, 2006

We start off with the SGS guys in the ring running down Angelo, their latest target for destruction. Dalton continued to insist that he will run Angelo out of WLW and make his life a living hell until it happens. These guys are starting to bond better as a group as well, debuting matching trunks and everything like that. Looks like Johnny Gold is finally on to something here. 54%

Ty Dalton vs. Dakota

Once again Gold’s charge gets the win with his trademark DDT finisher. Dakota has been on the losing end of quite a few matches as of late, but he seems to be improving his work at the same time. Maybe in the future WLW’s resident cowboy will make a comeback, but this match wasn’t a step in the right direction.

Winner: Ty Dalton 43%, 23%, 63%

After the last match we saw a taped vignette from “Wildman” Wade Chism who announced he be back in the ring in two weeks to take on his enemy Superstar Steve. He also warned the rest of SGS to stay out of his business unless they wanted to end up on the wrong end of a Samoan drop. Chism has been on fire lately with his promos and tonight was no exception. 68%

Miss Natural vs. Josie

The fans have apparently lost interest in Josie as they pretty much kept silent while Miss Natural picked up a win against the former Ladies champ. In typical WLW TV fashion this match was kept short and sweet, which was probably a good thing considering how uninterested the crowd was. Hopefully it was a one time fluke and the WLW brass won’t have to rethink the decision to sanction a woman’s division.

Winner: Miss Natural 24%, 4%, 45%

The night came to a close with a video montage of “Nasty” Nick Nemeth’s exploits over the past few weeks, culminating in his conflict with Steel from a few weeks back. The vignette ended with a rundown of the “Total Destruction” card so far and information about attending the event. It looks like their putting the full push behind this show as their ticket to bigger and better things, hopefully it pays off. 46%

WLW TV Episode 13 - September 9, 2006

The show kicked off with Harley Race in the ring announcing that the next match would be for the number one contendership for the WLW Ladies Title at “Total Destruction.” Hellena Heavenly was chosen to face off against the recently successful Miss Natural for the right to face the champion Lacey at the end of the month. 62%

Number One Contender Match For The WLW Ladies Title

Hellena Heavenly vs. Miss Natural

This was one of the better ladies matches in recent times as both ladies were dead set on getting a shot at the gold. Heavenly tried to use her slightly better athletic skills to wear out her opponent, but Natural ended up keeping up with her for the duration of the match. The ending came off an unexpected reversal into a DDT on the part of Miss Natural that netted her the three count and the title shot at “Total Destruction.”

Winner: Miss Natural 29%, 32%, 34%

Next up was a promo from Johnny Gold and Superstar Steve where they mocked Chism’s promo from last week, saying he was a sad excuse for a wrestler and not worthy of the nickname “Wildman.” Steve said he was more than ready for next week and that he’d show Chism what the SGS are all about come hell or high water. 49%

Angelo vs. Ty Dalton

With the show running out of time due to the length of the ladies match this bout was a little rushed, but that didn’t stop the wrestlers from putting on a good little match to continue their feud. The ending came in typical SGS when Gold clocked Angelo from behind while the ref’s back was turned, allowing Dalton to get the easy win. After the match the SGS laid another beating on Angelo before dumping him out of the ring to the floor.

Winner: Ty Dalton 45%, 31%, 71%

After the match, with Angelo still laying beaten at ringside, Dalton and Gold proposed a “loser leaves WLW” match at “Total Destruction” between the two former partners. Bloodied and out of breath Angelo managed to get to his feet and accept the challenge on the condition that the rest of the SGS would be banned from ringside. Despite Gold’s warnings Dalton accepted the stipulation and everything was finalized. One way or another someone will be leaving WLW at the end of the month, but can Dalton manage to keep his promise without his cronies in his corner? 63%

WLW TV Episode 14 - September 16, 2006

Dakota vs. War Cloud

Dakota continued his losing streak here with a loss to the seldom seen War Cloud. It’s not clear whether Dakota made a bad impression with the top brass or this is a set up for something but it doesn’t look like he’ll be getting a win anytime soon. Oh well, at least he’s getting a paycheck.

Winner: War Cloud 37%, 14%, 61%

Quick hype video for the WLW Heavyweight Title match at “Total Destruction.” Nemeth is really being pushed as one hell of a legitimate threat. 51%

After the commercial break Harley Race came out to make a quick announcement about the WLW Tag Team Titles. Apparently they’ll be on the line at “Total Destruction” when Besore & Godecker take on Daniel Flynn and Travis T-Money. Interesting match. Everything up to this point was kept really brief to make time for the huge main event between Superstar Steve and “Wildman” Wade Chism. 54%

One last commercial break to allow for an uninterrupted main event. Camera came back to Chism calling out Steve from the middle of the ring. The SGS theme then started blaring and the big match was underway. 58%

“Wildman” Wade Chism vs. Superstar Steve

This was a fairly long match that really showed off what both stars had to offer, culminating in the cheap interference win for Steve. Rather than roll over like a lot of the SGS’s victims, however, Chism fought back much to the delight of the crowd. Chism’s attackers ended up hightailing it in response to his retaliation, leaving the “Wildman” to celebrate in the ring as the show came to a close.

Winner: Superstar Steve 64%, 55%, 73%

WLW TV Episode 15 - September 23, 2006

The show opened up with “Wildman” Wade Chism challenging Superstar Steve to a “Last Man Standing” match at “Total Destruction” to settle the score once and for all. Steve didn’t respond to Chism’s repeated inquiries so the “Wildman” was forced to let the “Superstar” answer at his own chosen time. Wade said his foe had until the end of the show to make his decision and that he’d be waiting in the back to hear his response. 62%

Lacey vs. Little Jeanne

This was your standard non-title squash match to build up the WLW Ladies Championship match at “Total Destruction.” Lacey made short work of her opponent, picking up the win following a nasty Implant DDT.

Winner: Lacey 42%, 22%, 62%

Cutting back from commercial we got Superstar Steve’s response to Chism’s challenge. He accepted the match stipulations and warned Chism that he’d live to regret his decision because the SGS were going to make his night a living hell at “Total Destruction.” Interesting build, should be a hot match. 62%

Harley Race gave his standard pre-show rundown of all the matches at “Total Destruction” and promised the fans a good show. The crowd always loves Harley and this was no exception. 68%

Superstar Steve vs. Jason Bates

One last squash for the “Superstar” going into his match against Chism. Things turned ugly when Bates apparently forgot how to sell, but Steve managed to make things right by stiffing the younger star with a few high-impact clotheslines. Bates later ended up on the bitter end of a death-defying diving head butt from Steve that netted him the three count. This could have been much better if Bates hadn’t decided to no-sell for whatever reason.

Winner: Superstar Steve 39%, 25%, 53%

WLW Total Destruction Report - September 30, 2006

WLW Ladies Title Match

Lacey© vs. Miss Natural

This was by far the worst match of the night, but the ladies still managed to put on a decent show. With some of the recent troubles in the division like people leaving for rehab and working through injuries the ladies have had a hard time stringing together any sort of continuity and it’s hurting the crowd reaction. Lacey retained her title with an Implant DDT around the five minute mark.

Winner: Lacey 38%, 30%, 46%

“Loser Leaves WLW” Match - Solid Gold Sensations Barred From Ringside

Angelo vs. Ty Dalton

The crowd’s interest started to build with this match that guaranteed we would see someone leave WLW for good. Of course the crowd was pushing for Angelo to get the big win over his turncoat former partner, but they learned that you can’t always get what you want. Dalton ended up dominating the match from the very beginning and ended it (and Angelo’s career) with a DDT about ten minutes into the bout. After the match Angelo gave a teary last farewell to the fans while Dalton celebrated in the ring.

Winner: Ty Dalton 53%, 35%, 71%

WLW Tag Team Titles Match

Besore & Godecker© vs. Travis T-Money and Daniel Flynn

This match was worked like a filler bout, buffering the fan reaction from one gimmick match to the next. Still, the champs managed to put on a pretty good show with their extremely young opponents despite the fact that the audience wasn’t too interested. In the end the champs retained their titles with a stereo superkick on Flynn for the three count.

Winners: Besore & Godecker 46%, 30%, 62%

“Last Man Standing” Match

“Wildman” Wade Chism vs. Superstar Steve

In what was supposed to be the match of the night we saw WLW’s two biggest rivals square off to settle things once and for all. Chism came out like a man possessed, hammering Steve with heavy right hands and several high-impact clotheslines. Steve responded with a somewhat evasive strategy, choosing his shots and trying to stay out of Chism’s reach during the early minutes. In fact the whole bout seemed like a boxing match for the first few minutes before Steve decided to take the action outside of the ring. He tried to soften Chism up by utilizing the ring steps and posts, but Chism wasn’t going to go down so easily. After a short brawl they ended up back in the ring where Chism hit the first of several Samoan drops on his adversary. Steve tried repeatedly to shift the momentum back in his favor, but ended up eating two more Samoan drops for his efforts. Already dazed and barely able to stand Steve was finally put away with a vicious Death Valley Driver type maneuver that got Chism the ten count and the win after nearly two months of feuding with the “Superstar” and his cronies.

Winner: “Wildman” Wade Chism 63%, 52%, 74%

A short intermission and hype video for the main event allowed the crowd to recover from the previous match before the WLW Heavyweight Title match. The fans seemed eager for the match to get underway and they were soon given what they wanted when Nemeth’s music signaled the match was about to start. 59%

WLW Heavyweight Title Match

Ace Steel© vs. “Nasty” Nick Nemeth

The main event did not fail to deliver as many have been calling it WLW’s best match of all time. Both men kicked things off with a lengthy mat sequence that briefly saw Nemeth take control before losing it to Steel on an ill-timed reversal. From there Steel tried to use his fists to turn the tide further to his favor, peppering his opponent with several big right hands. Nemeth then tried to roll out of the ring for a breather, but Steel followed him and tossed him back into the ring before delivering a nasty elbow drop that busted Nick wide open. A bloodied Nemeth then tried to mount a comeback with a series of chops and a crisp snap suplex, but Steel managed to recover quickly and hit a Steel Shot DDT for a two count. Without hesitation Ace dragged Nemeth back up to his feet for another DDT which yielded the three count and the win. Both men were clearly exhausted following the match as the ref raised Steel’s hand in victory.

Winner: Ace Steel 69%, 59%, 80%

WLW TV Episode 16 - October 7, 2006

Jason Bates vs. Travis Gatlin

Gatlin is the former Travis T-Money with a new pair of tights, new music, and apparently a new name. Typical short TV match with a few signature spots and a quick finish. Gatlin ended up scoring the pin fall with a crisp moonsault.

Winner: Travis Gatlin 32%, 14%, 50%

Taped promo from Nick Nemeth where he vowed to continue his quest for Steel’s belt at all costs. He said he realized he had to get in line with all the other challengers, but he was willing to take them out one by one to get back into the ring with the champ. 50%

Mason Hunter vs. Warcloud

Warcloud is also sporting a new look with a more Native American flair to it. His name has also apparently been robbed of the space between war and cloud, which only makes sense since that’s his actual surname. But really, I’m getting into minor details here when I should be reporting on the match. The bout was actually slightly better than I’d expect with some nifty new offense from Warcloud. He ended up picking up the win with a Michinoku Driver.

Winner: Warcloud 42%, 20%, 65%

Cool hype video for WLW’s newest star Mike Mizanin. Plenty of public domain type clips of him from his previous endeavors and some fresh shots of him in the WLW ring hyping his debut. Should be interesting to see where he fits into things. 61%

“Wildman” Wade Chism vs. Derek McQuinn

Stellar match from a workrate perspective as Chism and McQuinn tore it up in a very old-school fashion. The announce team seems to be building McQuinn up as a future star even though Chism dominated for most of the match. The “Wildman” ended things with a Samoan drop late in the match and the show ended with a shot of him celebrating with the fans at ringside.

Winner: “Wildman” Wade Chism 64%, 43%, 85%

SUBJECT: WLW Report for September 2006/Big Move To Regional Status

Sorry this memo is later than usual, but we’ve had a really hectic week making the switch from a local promotion to a regional outfit. Between dealing with staff and worker contracts, contacting new venues, and meeting with my consultants I’ve barely had time to think about my booking much less prepare a formal report for you. Still, better late than never, right?

Obviously we finally made the push to operate as a regional promotion starting this week. As such our big show for this month, “No Quarter,” will take place at a larger venue than usual and we’ll have the opportunity to draw some new fans into our product. We were also finally able to turn a profit last month although a decent chunk of that cash has gone to increasing some of our production equipment. Hopefully this is just the beginning of a new wave of success for us.

As far as the roster is concerned we’ve had some pretty big shakeups in the last week. Several workers, including Rick Steiner, have decided to sign on with different promotions or retire from the business altogether. Most of our core roster remains in place, but the ladies division is now depleted almost beyond the point of repair. It looks like it would be a smart idea to suspend out attempts at building a viable women’s roster for now and perhaps give it another shot somewhere down the line. On the brighter side Marufuji is off tour for NOAH and would be willing to work at “No Quarter” if we have a spot for him. We’ve also come to terms with the well known aspiring wrestler Mike Mizanin who should be a great asset for us in the near future. Attached is our roster as of today’s date.

WLW TV Episode 17 - October 14, 2006

The Solid Gold Superstars came out to the ring to announce they had added another WLW star to their ranks. Gold kept the fans in suspense for a little while and then Miss Natural’s music played as she burst through the curtain from the back. She joined her new allies in the ring as they reveled in the fans boos before the show cut to commercial. 50%

Dakota vs. Ty Dalton

Not much suspense here as the down-and-out Dakota basically took on the entire SGS family. Really quick match that saw Dalton nail WLW’s resident cowboy with a surprise DDT as Gold and Dressler distracted him from ringside.

Winner: Ty Dalton 47%, 34%, 61%

Taped promo from Ace Steel where he responded to Nick Nemeth’s segment from the week before. He told Nemeth he’d be happy to take him on but he’d have to wait until next month. Apparently he’s already been assigned an opponent for “No Quarter” who will be announced at a later time. 62%

Little did he know that announcement would immediately follow his promo as Harley Race was in the ring to announce that the main event would be a three way dance for the number one contendership. 68%

“Three Way Dance” For The #1 Contendership For The WLW Heavyweight Title

Lance Hoyt vs. Derek McQuinn vs. “Superstar” Steve Dressler

This was Hoyt’s WLW debut. Great match with lots of vicious brawling between three of WLW’s biggest wrestlers. Hoyt looked a little off, but it might have just been ring rust since he’d been out of the ring for a few months. In the end Dressler picked up the win with a diving head butt on Hoyt.

Winner: “Superstar” Steve Dressler 58%, 44%, 72%

WLW No Quarter Report - October 28, 2006

The show kicked off with a quick backstage promo from Nick Nemeth where he continued his war of words with Ace Steel and vowed to beat his opponent Lance Hoyt for another shot at Steel’s belt. 56%

After Nemeth’s promo the Solid Gold Sensations also weighed in on the evening, focusing on Ty Dalton’s complaint that he didn’t even get a match, let alone a title shot. Typical SGS stuff here. 62%

The Human Tornado vs. Mike Mizanin

Nice little opener, even though the fans had no idea who Tornado was. The match was mostly a high-flying type of affair with some nice high spots and some light brawling. Mizanin picked up the win with his Mizard of Oz finisher.

Winner: Mike Mizanin 54%, 35%, 73%

Lacey then came out to the ring to introduce a new tag team, the Kansas City Wrecking Crew. Turns out it was just Mason Hunter and Jason Bates in some new tights, but they make an interesting team. Plus, they had a chance to win the WLW Tag Team Titles in their first match together. 49%

WLW Tag Team Title Match

Besore & Godecker© vs. The Kansas City Wrecking Crew vs. Gatlin & Flynn

Decent action here as nearly WLW’s entire undercard wrestled in one big three way tag match for the gold. Gatlin and Flynn were made to look like a non-factor early on as Besore and Godecker focused most of the energy on the newly formed Wrecking Crew. As usual Besore picked up the win with his trademark superkick to retain the titles.

Winners: Besore & Godecker 49%, 29%, 69%

Lance Hoyt vs. Nick Nemeth

Nemeth came out with his usual swagger and quickly put Hoyt away with a devastating lariat/power slam combo that left the big man down for the count. Looks like Nemeth is getting prepped for another shot at the title, which is good since he and Steel are money in the ring together.

Winner: Nick Nemeth 58%, 53%, 63%

“Wildman” Wade Chism vs. Naomichi Marufuji

Fans were 100% behind Chism as usual and they were pleased to see their hero victorious over WLW’s resident foreign star. The match was a little more technically inclined than most of Chism’s matches, but it didn’t fail to disappoint. The “Wildman” grabbed a submission win with a Boston Crab rather than his typical Samoan drop after working over the NOAH star’s back for most of the match.

Winner: “Wildman” Wade Chism 62%, 52%, 72%

WLW Heavyweight Title Match

Ace Steel© vs. “Superstar” Steve Dressler

Despite an outside attack from Ty Dalton and an early injury to his left knee Ace Steel managed to retain his title against the franchise star of the SGS. This match was mostly brawling between interference and other underhanded tactics from Dressler, but the fans didn’t seem to care. Steel managed to hit a Steel Shot DDT on both Dalton and Dressler after manager Johnny Gold mistakenly tripped Steve and picked up the three count before Gold could react to what was going on in the ring.

Winner: Ace Steel 66%, 54%, 79%

WLW Blaze of Glory Report - November 25, 2006

Backstage Promo w/ The Solid Gold Sensations

[shot opens up with Johnny Gold, Ty Dalton, and Miss Natural standing in front of a plain block wall somewhere backstage. Dalton is dressed in his ring gear and looks eager for some sort of action.]

Gold - Ladies and gentlemen, tonight I regret to inform you that “Superstar” Steve Dressler will not be here as he’s been temporarily sidetracked due to a training injury. Rest assured he’ll be back to wreak havoc with us next month, but tonight the rest of us are just going to have to do without him. Now everyone knows how Ty Dalton was screwed out of a match last month at “No Quarter” and how that forced him to have to get involved in the heavyweight title match between our own Steve Dressler and that chump Ace Steel. What they may not know is that I went and talked to Harley Race last week and made sure something like that wouldn’t have to happen tonight, that Dalton would get his fair slice of the limelight. In fact, Race was so receptive to my protest that he gave my boy Ty a shot at the WLW tonight at “Blaze of Glory!” So Ace, Mr. Bigshot, Mr. WLW himself, get ready to feel the wrath of the Solid Gold Sensations as we finally strip you of your precious title belt.

[Dalton steps to the front of the group and pantomimes a title belt around his waist as the scene fades to black.] 59%

Mason Hunter vs. Derek McQuinn

Match Background: None

Finish: McQuinn won the match by pin fall following a spear at 8:23.

Analysis: Decent match with plenty of mat work and some serviceable brawling. The fans weren’t really into it, but it didn’t affect the match that much. 50%, 31%, 69%

Jason Bates vs. Mike Mizanin

Match Background: None

Finish: Mizanin got the three count after a Mizmerizer at 7:47.

Analysis: The match seemed a little awkward at times as Mizanin tried to use his highflying offense on the much less agile Bates. The crowd was pretty dead for this one as well. 45%, 30%, 60%

Marc Godecker vs. Justin Gatlin

Match Background: Godecker is one half of the WLW Tag Team Champions with Josh Besore. Gatlin and his partner Daniel Flynn are coming off of two unsuccessful attempts at winning the titles.

Finish: Godecker claimed the win following a standing moonsault at 9:21.

Analysis: Pretty poor match, mostly due to Gatlin’s lack of selling. The crowd began to get into the match a little bit, but seemed to be put off by general mistakes made in the ring. 46%, 33%, 59%

Josh Besore vs. Daniel Flynn

Match Background: Flynn has just come off of two unsuccessful attempts to wrest away Besore and Godecker’s tag titles with his partner Justin Gatlin.

Finish: Besore picked up the pin fall following a superkick at 8:51.

Analysis: Even worse then the last match as Flynn blew quite a few spots. The crowd was turned off by the last match and this one didn’t win them back. 41%, 29%, 54%

WLW Heavyweight Title Match

Ace Steel© vs. Ty Dalton

Match Background: Dalton got this title shot after his manager Johnny Gold petitioned Harley Race about his lack of a match at last month’s big show. Also, at the same show Dalton attempted to interfere with Steel’s title defense in order to secure a victory for his partner Steve Dressler.

Finish: Steel got the three count after Gold accidentally clocked Dalton with a steel chair as the ref was occupied with Miss Natural.

Analysis: Steel and Dalton seemed to clash a bit in the ring, but the hot crowd seemed to make up for it. If there’s one good thing going on in WLW these day’s it’s anything involving Ace Steel. 57%, 59%, 55%

50% Overall Rating - $10520 at the gate, 526 paid

WLW Workrate Report For “All Out Assault” [12.30.06]

WHAT WORKED:

- The Solid Gold Superstars’ backstage skit/promo was money in the bank. These guys keep getting better every show, blending together a nice amount of comedy and pure heelish goodness. They set up their WLW Tag Team Title match for later in the evening by warning Besore and Godecker that Gold and Miss Natural had something special planned for the champs.

- The tag match was pretty swank. Besore and Godecker pulled out all the stops as usual, flying around the ring and bumping like crazy for their opponents. It looked like the SGS might have been able to pull off an upset early on with Dressler isolating Godecker and Miss Natural running a smoke screen on the ref at convenient times, but in the end the champs were just too good for even the underhanded duo of Dressler and Dalton to handle. Really fun match, one of the better matches in the past few months.

- As usual Ace Steel ruled the show, once again destroying Nick Nemeth in a WLW Heavyweight Title match. Nemeth was the last real challenger in line for Steel and it’s not really an option to have him come back for a third shot so soon, so it’ll be interesting where they go with the title scene. Still, Steel is a beast in the ring and these guys put on a hell of a match. Hopefully they’ll bring in someone to continue the love fest the fans have going on for their boy Ace.

WHAT DIDN’T WORK:

- Nemeth’s show opening promo was a little flat. The fans hate his guts, but he just doesn’t have the mic skills to make a huge impact with his words. With guys like Harley Race and Mike Mizanin in the company the fans want a special promo and he just didn’t deliver.

- Derek McQuinn destroying Jason Bates. Don’t get me wrong, McQuinn has a great ring presence and they managed to pull of a decent match. It’s just that McQuinn isn’t seen as very credible to the fans just yet, and they couldn’t really care less about Bates. I guess this is one of those awkward squash type matches everyone has to sit through as they begin to build someone’s monster push.

- The Miz taking down Mason Hunter. Again, the fans don’t seem to care about Hunter and they actually seemed to be pulling for Mizanin to get the win even though he played the world’s biggest jerk the entire match. From a workrate point of view the match was decent, but fancy moves and chop sequences are only half the battle.

SHOW STATS

In-Ring Promo w/ Nick Nemeth - 58%

Derek McQuinn d. Jason Bates - 51%, 27%, 75%

Mike Mizanin d. Mason Hunter - 53%, 35%, 71%

Backstage Promo w/ SGS - 68%
