Tag Team Smorgasbord

By Jen Hunt

August 22, 2006

Attendance: 6504

Commentators: Joey Styles and Tazz

Overall Rating: 70%

TV Rating: 3.62

Big Show promised he would be at ECW on Sci-Fi to make an impact. He did just that. As he came out in the beggining of the night, the crowd booed loudly. The Big Show entered the ring and talked about how he had beat all ECW on comers and that there was nothing left for him to do. "The Wrestling Machine" Kurt Angle gave Big Show some food for thought when he came out and noted that he has never beat Angle on ECW soil. Angle was ready for a fight and Big Show said he would give him a fight. Just then, Test ambushed Angle from behind and the Two man assault was on. Until The Sandman ran out to even up the numbers with cane in hand. In the end, Angle and Sandman stood in the ring, victorious.

Little Guido and Big Guido made there way to the ring to face the "mystery luchadore team" which turned out to be former CMLL tag team champions, Mistico and Negro Casas. Mistico and Casas chose to worker on the slower Big Guido and use pace to there advantage. In the end, it was technical wrestling which won the match for Mistico who mage Big Guido submit in the unorthodox, 'La Mistica'.

In our next ECW Tag Team Title Tourney Quarter Final match, Doug and Danny Basham, who jumped ship from Smackdown this week, took on former ECW Tag Team Champions, Tajiri and Mikey Whipwreck. Tajiri and Whipwreck's technical finesse proved nothing in the face of the Bashams pure strength and smash mouth style with Whipwreck eventually being pinned after Danny hit his 'Brain Damage'.

Roadkill and Danny Doring stood in the ring as Mike Knox walk down the ramp. Who would be this defector. Well it was surprising to see that it was Lance Cade who hold the World Tag Team Titles number one contendership partnering up with Knox. They both came to the ring sporting full cowboy attire with 'Gunslingers' written on there backs. But this would prove just a formality as Lance Cade got the win on Roadkill after a Top Rope Clothesline that Joey Styles coined 'The Lasso'.

As RVD was walking backstage, he was confronted by a fan who asked for his autograph. He said sure. As he signed the autograph and walked away, a man in black patterned tights and a black hoodie with circles on them attacked him from behind. The man then locked on a scissored armbar. As RVD squirmed in pain on the ground, the man flicked back his hood to reveal Perry Saturn. He laughed evilly before walking off to the sight of RVD clutching his arm.

The main event of the night only had one known participant in former ECW Champion, Justin Credible. He did not make his way out to the ring first but the combination of former ECW Tag Team Champion, The Can-Am Express, Phil LaFon and Doug Furnas did! Furnas and LaFons receptiion almost brought the house down in boos. Justin Credibles entrance turned the other cheeck as the crowd cheered like crazy but the reaction of the night was directed to a returning Lance Storm with Dawn Marie in hand. The Impact Players live again! And they made it memorable too, a 20 minute long match which ended in Phil LaFon tapping to Lance Storms Calgary Crab. The ending image of ECW on Sci-Fi was The Impact Players hitting there trademark pose in the middle of the ring.

Summer Sizzler

August 25, 2006

Just 5 days done from the Biggest Party of the summer and some are still feeling the effects. King Booker narrowly escaped defeat at the hands of 'The Animal' because of his wife, Queen Sharmell. Will Batista be on the warpath?

Montel Vontavious Porter may have his hands full tonight after beating down a tired Rey Mysterio after he won his greuling match against Chavo Guerrero. Rey Mysterio will have his chance to get revenge as the go one on one tonight.

Gregory Helms will be defending his Cruiserweight Championship against former Pitbull, Jamie Noble. Helms, the current longest reigning WWE Champion, has been called by many experts 'undefeatable' in the cruiserweight division.

The Teachers Pets, KC James and Idol Stevens will have there hands full as they face an unknown tag team for a chance at the WWE Tag Team Championships currently held by The Hooliganz, Brian Kendrick and Paul London.

Matt Hardy, Sylvester Terkay, Finlay, William Regal and Paul Burchill will also be at Smackdown so it would be a crime not to tune in to UPN!

Extreme...Assemble!

By Craig Tello

August 25, 2006

Attendance: 6535

Commentators: Michael Cole and John "Bradshaw" Layfield

Overall Rating: 68%

TV Rating: 6.06

Smackdown's fallout from Summerslam was actually quite gentle in the early goings. Theodore Long came out and announced to Rey Mysterio who was already in the ring, that Montel Vonatavious Porter had been injured and could not compete tonight. But he had someone else in mind. The returning Hardcore Holly came from behind the curtains to a roaring ovation from the crowd. Hardcore Holly seemed to dispense the former World Heavyweight Champion with ease.

After the match, Chavo Guerrero appeared on the titantron as Rey regained his feet. Chavo said that he hopes the problems between them are now over and they both appoligized to each other.

King Booker approached the ring with his Queen and merry men beside him. Booker sat in his thrown and told Finlay and Regal that they, where infact, to be knighted. Right now! Just as King Booker was about to commence the knighting, the lights went off. When they came back on, King Booker was on the ground motionless and Sharmell was halfway up the ramp and The Undertaker was standing in the middle of the ring. Finlay and Regal got the best of The Undertaker, until The Hardy Boyz came out and chase Finlay and Regal away from The Undertaker.

Kristal interviewed Paul Burchill backstage. He said he had a special s..arggghh....prise for everyone. He threw off his pirate gear and revealed a pair of tights underneath. "From now on, this is Paul burchill. Like me or not", and then walked away.

Jamie Noble, one half of the former Pitbulls, went one on one with Gregory Helms for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship. The match ebbed and flowed with both men unable to gain an advantage over the other that was until Kid Kash made his presence felt. Kid Kash came out and was aiming for Jamie Noble but hit Gregory Helms with a chair after Noble inadvertandly knocked the ref down. Noble then picked up the scraps for the win. Kid Kash later revealed that he tried to cost Noble the match because he should have the shot not Noble.

Batista came out to the ring to adress King Booker and Sharmell. Batista talked about how he was screwed out of the World Heavyweight Title and that it should be around his waste. Batista then called out King Booker but it was answered by Sylvester Terkay and Ellijah Burke. Burker and Terkay taunted and teased Batista, then attacked. The numbers game was to much for The Animal until John Cenas music hit and out came the Doctor of Thuganomics. Cena measured Terkay, but then turned and attacked Batista. Cena pounded away on Batista as Turkay and Burke made there way to be back. Cena got on the mic and said "If you people don't like it, you can all kiss my ass!".

The Teachers Pets, Idol Stevens and KC James made there way out to the ring, accompanied by Michelle McCool. As they climbed into the ring, a look of confusion poppd onto there faces as they awaited there unknown opponents. Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo, former WCW Tag Team Champions appeared on the stage as The Teachers Pets went crazy in the ring. O'Haire and Palumbo did there traditional forearm high five and made there way to the ring. Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo showed no sign of ring rust as they put The Teachers Pets throught there paces. O'Haire hit the Widowmaker for the win.

The Hardy Boyz where Interviewed by Kristal about Jeffs return and there reformation. They both said that they know that there Is now a whole brand devoted to extreme, but we where extreme before anyone else!

Sylvester Terkay and Ellijah Burke made there second appearance of the night by coming and tossing around a young star by the name of Shawn Spears. Terkay has yet to face one of Smackdown "big" superstars and some critics think that all that Terkay is is a bully to littler wrestlers. Only time will tell!

The main event was a six-man tag between The Undertaker and the newly reformed Hardy boys taking on King Booker and his Kings Court. Taker dominated with his physical strength while at the other end of the spectrum, Jeff and Matt evaded moves with there speed. The match ended when Undertaker double chokeslammed Finlay and Regal and Matt hit Booker with a twist of fate. Then the Deadman and Version 1 stacked all three men ontop of each other allowing Jeff to hit a Swanton Bomb on all three. Jeff covered the World Heavyweight Champion for the win. Smackdown went of the air with the image of Undertaker bowing down behind King Booker with Jeff and Matt posing behind him.

Team Shelton?

By Zack Zeigler

August 28, 2006

Attendance: 6505

Commentators: Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler

Overall Rating: 71%

TV Rating: 6.06

Shelton Benjamin may have won the Intercontinental Championship, but he did so on controversial circumstances including the interference of Charlie Haas and the debuting "Team Shelton". More On That Later.

Raw kicked off with the WWE Champion, Edge, accompanied by Lita, coming out to the ring. Edge talked about the way he beat down John Cena and sent him packing to Raw. Randy Orton interrupted and said that if it wasn't for his goofy move, he would be without that belt on without a job. Edge and Lita had enough and started the beat down on Orton. Mickie James ran out and tackled Lita off Orton which took Edges eye of the game for a split second which allowed Orton to recover and RKO the champ. Orton and James stood side by side in the ring, victorious.

The Gunslingers, Lance Cade and Mike Knox had there shot at the World Tag Team Championships, despite both men being contracted to ECW. Lance Cade was signed to ECW just after Monday Night Raw last week after he volunteraly jumped ship. But the Gunslinger will now take something extra back to ECW tomorrow night, the World Tag Team Titles. Cade got the pin on Mikey for the win. After the match, The Spirit Squad broke down. Mikey and Nicky argued with Kenny. Until Johnny came in and tried to break it up. Johnny was assaulted by Kenny, Mikey and Nicky. Mikey and Nicky then put a hurting on Kenny. Mikey then got on the mic and said that "We are Mikey and Nicky and we are the only members of the Spirit Squad". As Johnny came back into the ring to tend to a downfallen Kenny, Kenny snapped, hitting Johnny with a steel chair and then hitting his "Gulliotene Leg Drop". A fallen Johnny was greeted with cheers as he struggled out of the ring.

Randy Orton and Mickie James faced off against Lita and the WWE Champion, Edge next. The finish came when Edge was about to hit a spear on Mickie. Randy Orton dived in front of the spear, showing a usually vacant, sense of heart. Edge pinned Orton for the three count. After the match, Mickie planted one on Randy as a sign of appreciation for taking the spear.

Charlie Haas was backstage talking about how he was screwed out of an Intercontinental Title shot tonight. Haas said that he would get his revenge but that he would take out his anger on Rob Conway for the time being.

Charlie Haas was visibly pumped up and aggressive as he beat Rob Conway. Conway usually would pull a trick out of his hat, being the 'Con-Man' and all but he looked very relieved once Charlie Haas ended the match with a modified belly to back suplex with a bridge. After the match, two men in red hoodies and black and red Adidas sweat pants came out and demolished Charlie Haas. As they turned there backs, there where marks on the back of there hoodies saying 'TS'.

Kenny was interviewed backstage by Maria. Maria, after asking a completely valid question, was held up by the scruff of her neck by Kenny. Johnny then ran in and clocked Kenny with a steel chair. Johnny, who was wearing a blue jacket with a small jet in the right hand corner and Blue sweats, then helped Maria up. Maria said "Thanks Johnny". Johnny replied "Call me Jeter, Johnny Jeter" and walked off while Maria blushed.

The Intercontinental Title match was up next. Johnny Nitro made his way out to the ring looking very worried. He was accompanied by Melina. Shelton Benjamin came out to the ring alone. like always with his sunglasses and The Rock-style shirt. Nitro dominated the fast paced match, using the 'keep it off the mat' technique as of course, Shelton is a fine mat wrestler. Shelton accidentally knocked out the ref. Enter Charlie Haas. Haas limped down to the ring. But before he could get in the ring, the hooded men ambushed him again, this time coming out of the crowd. Shelton hit Nitro with the Intercontinental Title belt. The two hooded men held Melina back as Shelton revived the referee who made the three count. The two hooded men tossed Nitro from the ring, landing right near Charlie Haas. Shelton exclaimed that these two men where a new revolution, a new vibrancy and a new era. Shelton announced these two men to be 'Team Shelton'. The two men flicked there hoods off as Shelton introduced them one at a time. Chris Stern and then Jason Cross. Both of them had impressive college mat wrestling backgrounds. Shelton said these two men are the "All-Americans" and together we are 'Team Shelton'.

In the main event of the night, Triple H faced off against Kane. Kane, who Shane McMahon announced last week as his 'hired-gun' dominated the match with his pure strength. The match ended in a no contest after Shane McMahon appeared backstage. The camera panned around to see 'HBK' Shawn Michaels gagged and tied to a chair backstage. Triple H, who was in control of the match, ran backstage to tend to HBK. But it was a trap. When Triple H entered the room, he was greeted by a chair wielding Shane and "The Samoan Bulldozer' Umaga. Raw went off the air with the image of HBK tied to a chair and HHH on the floor, bleeding profusely and coughing up blood.

Matches

The Gunslingers def. The Spirit Squad - World Tag Team Titles - 61, 54, 69 (New World Tag Team Champions

Edge and Lita def. Randy Orton and Mickie James - Inter-Gender Tag Match - 81, 89, 65

More or less a summary of the entire show which really doesn't appeal to me. The usual format is written out promos and summarized matches, but it's good to see something foat from the norm.

The break up of the Spirit Squad was a good idea, although Kenny is obviously the money, so I hope you take him in a good direction.

Orton having a face turn is a bad idea if that's where you're going. He's a terrible face IRL, so if that is the way you're going, please book him better than the WWE did.

The Charlie Haas, and Team Shelton is kind of boring. I was hoping to see a Shelton push towards something better, but stuck in this angle just seems...bleh.

Again I would like to see written out promos. It really would add a lot more to the show. This just seems more like a fan's summary, unless that's what you're going for.

RAW was too big. The huge main event, the IC title defense and change, Tag title defense and change, the Orton vs. Edge mixed tag. Too much just for RAW, and to justify all of this in two hours just seems a little unreal.

Thanks for that MDP. I think i will write out the promos in the segment recap. And the whole Orton thing, hes becoming a tweener, just so him and edge can have a decent fued

Confrontations

August 29, 2006

Last weeks ECW On Sci-Fi was full of surprises with Lance Storm, Perry Saturn and The Can-Am Express returning. Negro Casas and Mistico debuting and Mike Knox introducing his new partner.

Speaking of The Gunslingers, they will be taking on The Basham Brothers in the semi-finals of the ECW Tag Team Title Tourney. The Gunslingers already have gold, The World Tag Team Titles, which they won from The Spirit Squad last night. WWE.Com has announced exclusively that The Gunslingers will face Shelton Benjamins boys, The All-Americans and the remaining two members of The Spirit Squad, Nicky and Mikey at Unforgiven for the World Tag Team Titles. They could hold both Brands Tag Team Belts heading into Unforgiven.

Rob Van Dam will be seeking revenge after Perry Saturn sneak attacked him backstage last week. Paul Heyman told WWE.Com earlier today that they would be competing in an 'Extreme Rules Match' tonight.

Also, Tommy Dreamer, who came to the aid of Kurt Angle when he was attacked by Test and The Big Show last week, will team up with Kurt Angle to take on the two perpitrators.

CM Punk will also take on Al Snow so tune in to ECW On Sci Fi!

Saturn Back To His Best

By Jen Hunt

August 29, 2006

Attendance: 6510

Commentators: Joey Styles and Tazz

Overall Rating: 69%

TV Rating: 3.36

Perry Saturn has done a lot of memorable things over his career. He has been a WCW Tag Champion, ECW Tag Champion, WCW Television Champion, WWF Hardcore Champion and WWF European Champion. He has been part of The Flock, The Radicalz and The Revolution but tonight may be his one defining moment. Perry Saturn defeated Rob Van Dam and next week, will face The ECW Heavyweight Champion, The Big Show in his first ever World Title Shot. Saturn beat RVD in the opening match of the night when he forced RVD to tap out in the 'Rings Of Saturn'.

CM Punk faced Al Snow next. Snow, a very skilled technical wrestler who is under appreciated would take the fight to CM Punk but would ultimately be pinned by the 'Straight Edge Superstar' after he hit what looked like a top rope pedigree. Joey Styles coined this move the 'Pepsi Plunge'. Al Snow offered a handshake to CM Punk, which Punk accepted. Snow then whispered something in Punks ear and walked up the ramp while Punk celebrated in the ring.

The first ECW Tag Title Tourney Semi-Final match tonight was between The Gunslingers and The Basham Brothers. The Gunslinger made the big mistake of trying to match strength with The Bashams early on and where dominated for the first three quarters of the match. The Gunslingers got a bit of offence in before the Bashams came back. The Bashams where looking for a 'Code Red' that somewhat resembled the Dudleyville Device. But Lance Cade, who was on Danny shoulders, rolled through and grabbed the tights as Knox pushed Doug off the top rope and to the floor. The Gunslingers advance because Lance Cade had the tights!

The other ECW Tag Title Tourney followed with Negro Casas and Mistico taking on The Impact Players, Lance Storm and Justin Credible. Storm, who came out of semi-retirement and returned last week, got the pin over The Can-Am Express. Casas and Mistico used all there high-flying moves to there advantage because they knew that if they where upright, Justin Credible would want a fistfight and if they where on the mat, Lance Storm would dominate them. But it did not work out for Mistico and Casas, with Casas going down from a double superkick from the Impact Players.

On his way out to the ring for tonights main event, The Big Show was confronted by his opponent next week, Perry Saturn. The pair traded insults but left before things could come to physical contact.

The main event of the night was the aforementioned Big Show, teaming up with Test. To take on The Wrestling Machine, Kurt Angle and The Innovator Of Violence, Tommy Dreamer in the first ever 'Extreme Rules Tag Team Match'. The foursome paired off early in the match with Angle going after Show and Test taking Dreamer to the outside. The end came when Tommy Dreamer attempted a chairshot on Test who ducked it and delivered a Big Boot with the chair going directly on to Dreamers cranium with Test picking up the scraps for the win. After the match, Show and Test brutalized the opposition then threw them out of the ring. The ending image was of The Big Show holding Tests arm up in victory.
