Challenge Accepted!

British Bulldog defeated Rocky Miavia

With still no partner announced Rocky went into this one with his opponents feeling very confident. Rocky however showed them that he is there to fight as he took down Bulldog until Bulldog hung him on the ropes thanks to distraction from Owen Hart at ringside. Rocky then fought back again but his leg was tripped by Hart again allowing Bulldog to Powerslam Rocky for the win.

After the match Bulldog & Hart double teamed Rocky until Mankind's music hit. Mankind hit the ring taking out Bulldog and Owen. Rocky then fought back sending Bulldog out of the ring as Mankind locked in the Mandible Claw on Owen Hart. Rocky and Mankind then celebrated. It looks like we know who Rocky's partner is now!

Gorilla Monsoon is shown in his office and announces several matches for Unforgiven. He says in the WWF anything can happen and at Unforgiven, anything WILL happen. He says there will be a few people debuting at Unforgiven and a few people returning. One example is Hunter Hearst Helmsley, he will defend his Intercontinental Title against the returning Ken Shamrock. The monster Vader will take on someone his own size as Yokozuna will return to face him and Kaientai will debut as they face the debuting Jushin Liger and Flash Funk

Hunter Hearst Helmsley defeated Bret Hart

It looks like Bret Hart has an opponent for this Sunday as Brian Pillman cost Hart the match. Hart had everything going his way he had Triple H locked in the Sharpshooter ready to tap but Chyna climbed up on to the apron once again distracting the referee long enough for Pillman to storm the ring, Pillman wrapped a steel chair around the head of Bret Hart and laid Hunter on top of Hart for a victory.

After the match Pillman and Helmsley started to double team Hart until the returning Ken Shamrock ran to the ring as Pillman and Helmsley ran off.

Sycho Sid comes to the ring, he says Undertaker has had long enough to think of his challenge and he calls him out. Undertaker's music hit and Taker came to the ring. He said nothing but motioned to Sid that he will receive the Tombstone at Unforgiven

Afterwards Steve Austin ran to the ring and attacked Undertaker starting his match with the Deadman...

Steve Austin vs Undertaker ended in a No Contest

Sid stayed at ringside for this match and it didn't take long for it to erupt into gang warfare. But Shawn Michaels also made his way to ringside to even the odds. Steve Austin and Taker traded blows with each other until Taker took Austin down with a DDT. Undertaker signalled that the end was near and set Austin up for a Chokeslam which Austin reversed and tried to Stunner Taker which was also reversed. The two then took each other out and the referee started the 10 count. Austin was the first up at 7 and then Undertaker sat up and the two went at it again. Undertaker ducked a clothesline attempt and Chokeslammed Austin. Undertaker then picked Austin up for a Tombstone when Sycho Sid entered the ring and took out Undertaker which provoked Michaels into doing the same as he started brawling with Austin.

Undertaker and Sid brawled right up the ramp to the back while Michaels superkicked Austin sending a message to him. Unforgiven is this Sunday and the PPV might live up the name.....

The Executioner destroyed Aldo Montaya

It's a good job The Executioner doesn't get paid by the hour as he wouldn't ahave an awful lot of money. This match lasted a total time of 4:23 of which was all The Executioner. Montaya didn't get one move in, he was just overpowered and slammed around the ring before being on the receiving end of a spinecrushing Spinebuster giving Executioner another 'W'

Overall Rating: 65%

Goldust & Sable defeated Billy Gunn & Sunny

This wasn't a traditional wrestling match at all when the men fought each other they were brawling and when the women went at it things erupted into a full on catfight to which spilled outside of the ring. While Goldust was watching the catfight Billy Gunn tried to roll up Goldust and hook the tights which the Gold one reversed and hooked the tights for a little payback for the win. Sable and Sunny were still at it on the outside which finally got separated much to the disappointment of the fans.

Backstage Hunter Hearst Helmsley is standing by with Michael Cole. Cole asks Helmsley how he feels about facing someone he's never faced before in Ken Shamrock. Helmsley replies that it doesn't matter who the opponent is or whether he's faced him or not sooner or later everyone falls victim to the Pedigree. Cole then went on to say how Shamrock is a former Intercontinental Champion himself to which Helmsley answers: "The key word is former, yeah he's done all this before but he's not the champion anymore, somebody beat him for that belt and as of right now nobody has beaten me!" The cameras cut back to the ring

TAKA Michinoku w/ Funaki pinned Jushin Liger w/ Flash Funk

It was battle of the high fliers as Taka and Jushin took to the skies to face each other. This match was full of aerial displays on behalf of both men as Taka showed a beautiful 450 splash but only got canvas. Liger then climbed up the top rope and missed a corkscrew monsault. The referee then started to count which both men answered at 7. The two went at it again and Jushin bounced off the ropes but Funaki grabbed his foot and caught his attention. Liger pulled Funaki up on the apron before nailing him with a right hand only to turn round and fall victim to a Michinoku Driver for the 3 count

Overall Rating: 69%

Yokozuna pinned Faarooq

Faarooq had a huge task in front of him but that didnt stop him trying to beat the big man but Yokozuna was just too big in this case. Yokozuna used his size to his advantage but Faarooq worked on Yoko's left knee which soon cut the big man down to size. Even with one bad wheel, however, Yokozuna still managed to slam Faarooq and hit a Legdrop with his right leg for the victory

Team Michaels (Michaels, Undertaker, Hart, Rocky, Mankind) beat Team Austin (Austin, Sid, Pillman, Bulldog, Owen)

The match was promoted as gang warfare and that's exactly what it was. The referee just let everything go in this one and there were athletes flying here, there and everywhere. In the end Austin and Michaels were left in the ring as Bulldog and Mankind brawled to the back, Rocky and Owen were on one side of the arena in the crowd, Bret Hart and Brian Pillman were on the other and Undertaker and Sycho Sid were up on the ramp. Austin tried to hit the Stunner but Michaels counted into a backdrop. Shawn then climbed to the top rope and hit his patented Elbow Drop. Michaels then began tuning up the band for a song he knows so well. Austin dodged the Sweet Chin Music and went back for the Stunner but once again it was countered Michaels shoved Austin against the ropes and Austin bounced off straight into Sweet Chin Music for the 1...2...3!

After the match Michaels celebrated in the ring with his title belt. But would this be the last time we saw this?

September 21st 1997

A video package plays hyping tonight's PPV and we are then taking inside the arena.

Kurt Angle defeated Leif Cassidy

In our opening contest of the evening a debuting Kurt Angle picked up his first WWF win by beating Leif Cassidy. This match was a technical contest with Angle hitting several suplexes on Cassidy only have Cassidy give Angle some of his own suplexes in return. Angle then hit some hard Uppercuts before taking Cassidy to the mat and applying a side leg lock. Cassidy reversed the hold into an inside cradle for a 2 count but Angle took him back down with a vicious clothesline. Angle then argued with the referee while Cassidy got back up and dropkicked him into the turnbuckle and rolled him up yet again for a long two count. Angle then fired up and hit 3 German Suplexes in a row and then hit the Olympic Slam for the 3 count and his first win.

Liger and Funk brought out the aerial assault as Liger flipped over the rope with a Somersault Plancha at the same time as Funk who hit a Suicide Plancha on Kaientai. Kaientai retaliated later on hitting two crossbody's from the turnbuckle to the outside in stere as the fans aplauded. Kaientai then worked on Liger in the ring keeping him from making the tag. However Liger dodged a double clothesline and rolled to his corner where he tagged Flash Funk. Funk came in the ring blazing as he hit a clothesline on TAKA then Funaki then a dropkick on TAKA. Liger then came back into the match taking TAKA outside of the ring. Scorpio then hit a scoop slam on Funaki and took to the top rope connecting with an awesome 450 Splash for a 3 count.

Yokozuna defeated Vader

In what was a surefire battle of the beasts type match these two giants couldn't seem to knock either one down. Vader tried multiple times to slam Yokozuna but to no avail. Vader then charged full steam at Yokozuna in the corner but again missed as Yokozuna moved out of the way and somehow managed to slam Vader. Yoko then made his way to the second rope and hit a Banzai Drop for the win.

Intercontinental Championship: Hunter Hearst Helmsley © defeated Ken Shamrock

They should make a second IC title and give it to Chyna because once again Triple H retained thanks to her interference. An inadvertant clothesline knocked out the referee from Shamrock who turned and got kicked in the gut setting up the Pedigree however Shamrock reversed and back body dropped Helmsley. Shamrock then hit two Belly to Belly suplexes and locked on his patented Ankle Lock but Chyna came in the ring and low blowed Shamrock. Triple H then recovered and hit the Pedigree just as the ref was waking up to retain.

Bret Hart defeated Brian Pillman via DQ

Bret Hart went into this match frustrated he wasn't in the main event tonight and let all of his frustrations fly on Pillman. These two men know each other very well but weren't afraid to let it all show. Hart tried to slam Pillman but was countered and Pillman slammed Hart instead. Pillman then locked in a sleeper hold which almost won him the match until Bret started to fire up again. Bret bounced off the ropes knocking Pillman down. Bret signalled for a Piledriver but Pillman pulled himself out of the ring where he got a steel chair. Pillman slid back in and blasted Hart with the chair causing the ref to DQ Pillman. World Tag Team Championships: Rocky Miavia and Mankind defeated British Bulldog and Owen Hart ©

The champs went into this one not had long to prepare for Mankind and that showed as Mankind and Rocky took the champs outside of the ring early on and began brawling on the outside. Bulldog knocked Rocky down and the champs through Mankind into the steel steps. Rocky was left on his own as the champs wore him down working on his back applying various susbmission holds to try to get Rocky to submit. With Mankind still not on the apron Hart tagged in and locked in the Sharpshooter but Rocky made it to the ropes. Rocky then dodged a clothesline in the corner and started to fight back firing off right hands on Hart while Mankind climbed back up on the apron. Rocky then took Bulldog off the apron and tagged in Mankind. Mankind took Hart down and then Bulldog and then Hart again. Mankind then threw both champs into the corner as Rocky then whipped in Mankind for a body splash. Rocky then took Bulldog out of the ring with a clothesline as Mankind signalled for the Mandible Claw however with the referee distracted Hart hit a low blow knocking Mankind down. Hart then locked in the sharpshooter a second time in the match which Rocky broke up. Mankind recovered and hit a Double Arm DDT on Bulldog and slapped the Mandible Claw on Hart which soon saw Owen tapping as Bulldog was prevented from breaking up the hold. Mankind and Rocky then celebrated with their newly won tag team titles

The Undertaker pinned Sycho Sid

Sid tried desperately to make a name for himself tonight but no such luck. Sid tried every move in his arsenal (please no jokes) to defeat The Deadman but Undertaker just kept getting back up again and again and throwing Sid off his game. At one point it looked as though Undertaker was down for good as Sid hit a boot to the head knocking Undertaker out, however Sid posed to the crowd instead of following up the move giving Undertaker time to recover and start to fight Sid. Taker was then whipped into the ropes which he rebounded off hitting a flying clothesline. Taker then held his arm up signalling a Chokeslam but Sid broke the hold only to run and get hit with a big boot of his own. Undertaker signalled for a Chokeslam again and hit it and in a mammoth feat of strength Taker somehow managed to Tombstone Sid for a victory.

After the match though Sid grabbed the ring bell and cracked Undertaker right in the skull with it before leaving.

WWF Championship: Steve Austin pinned Shawn Michaels ©

In what was an extremely intense match up which was very even there was a new champion crowned as Steve Austin bested Shawn Michaels. Michaels started on the offensive wearing down Austin but Austin countered a superplex to reverse the momentum. Austin then pounced on Michaels with a Lou Thesz Press and following it up with an elbow drop for a 2 count. Austin then hit a devastating spinebuster on Michaels and proceeded to work on the back. Austin then cinched in a Camel Clutch again working on Michaels back but was broken when Michaels refused to tap. Austin went back to basics hitting several elbow drops on the lower back. He then went for a third but Michaels rolled out of the way and both men were down. The referee's count was broken at 8 and Michaels started to fight back with right hands and a clothesline. Michaels then hit a flying clothesline and a scoop slam then ascended to the top rope where he hit a picture perfect elbow drop which Austin somehow managed to kick out of. Michaels started to warm up the band but failed to connect with Sweet Chin Music only to turn round and hit with a Stunner which failed to knock Michaels down so Austin hit another one for the pin and a new champion.

"I only got one thing to say...."

Before Shawn Michaels music hit which made Austin turn his attention on the ramp. Michaels, however, came out of the crowd and stood behind Austin. Austin turned and got nailed with Sweet Chin Music. Michaels then signalled he wanted his title back.

Hart countered an Ankle Lock while Shamrock countered the Sharpshooter. Steve Austin, British Bulldog and Owen Hart beat Shawn Michaels, Rocky Miavia and Mankind

Rocky was the focal point for Team Austin as he was the most inexperienced and was prevented from making a tag while his legs were being worked on. All three men of Austins team taunted Michaels team trying to get them to distract the referee long enough for Austin, Bulldog and Hart to triple team Rocky however Rocky managed to find the strength inside of him to tag in Mankind who came in knocking down anything that moved almost. Until Bulldog and Hart took him down leading to Michaels coming in the ring and all 6 men began brawling. Owen took Michaels to the outside as the ref regained control so Rocky tagged himself in and almost won it except Austin made the blind tag which Rocky was unaware of. He turned round and got nailed with the Stunner for a 1...2...3.

I'm glad you're actually writing match reports, instead of the cut-paste jobs from the first page.

That said, I don't much care for this diary. Why did you choose to do a 1997 diary if you didn't want to pay any attention to the actual history of the WWF in 1997?

You Sign Angle, immediately push Austin (who only came back from surgery in late '97 to feud with Owen Hart) to the top, and yet somehow you have Austin listed as a heel and HBK listed as a face? Not to mention, you just gave away the biggest match the WWF had at Unforgiven, a show that's not exactly an 'A' show. Not to mention, it looks like you're trying to avoid actual history, like Pillman's death in early October, or Bret being out the door and at Starrcade by December.

Yeah it's your diary and you can do what you want, but the whole thing seems like you know very little about the period you decided to set your diary, and so you decided to bring a lot of events you remember watching- Kurt Angle coming in, Rock and Mankind's tag run, etc.
