Has anyone ever tried creating this effect ?

I'm working on a custom Wrestlemania 23 dvd cover and I've run into a snag while trying to implement an idea I have. Basically I'm trying to create a gold/ metallic foil like effect for portions for the front part of the cover. I thought it would be simple enough , but I'm stuck. I tried using a combination of gradients and the burn/ dodge tool but the outcome was too cheesy looking for what I wanted.

Next I tried selecting the portions adding some slight noise and then playing around with it from there but that didn't work out right. I'm just wondering if anyone else has created a similar effect and if so could you give me some pointers

hmm id mess around with gradients but then change the blend on them ie colour dodge, pin light that can have a cool effect on colours apart from that im stumped lol

yeah I messed around with gradients and applied some adjustments masks but in the end it looked like crap lol. Might scrap the idea and start from scratch. thanks for the help though

I was wondering about something like this is well. If you figure something out could you let me know?

Also, I used to have a tutorial where you could do diamond like effects for text using the gradients, anyone know what I'm talking about or where I can get it?

The foil effect I did was simple... I had some gold foil around and I took a picture of it and set it as a pattern.

Don't scan it, it will flatten.
