I don't know why, but I was expecting a lot from Tom Morello, but this is just....meh. I've got no problem with the stripped down, acoustic only thing, that's partly why I was excited for this. His voice, while totally not what I was expecting, is awesome (reminds me of Morgan Freeman). I think it's that the lyrics just seem very....simple, I guess.

I dunno, I guess I just expected more than:

"On the streets of Havana

I got hugged and kissed

At the Playboy Mansion

I wasn't on the list

On the streets of Cape Town

Shit's ready to blow

I don't know how to get there

But I'm ready to go"

And the choruses are so samey. I'm a one man, I'm a one man, Battle hymns for the broken, battle hymns for the yadda yadda yadda.

Am I alone in this line of thinking?

No, you're not alone in thinking this. I'm fine with acoustic stuff and actually love a lot of acoustic stuff done by other bands, but I don't know. Something about it just irked me and I can't really find myself listening to it. Tom Morello is all sorts of badass though and I wish him success in his solo efforts even if I don't find the music that appealing.
