Band In a Box (Computer Audio Mixing Shit)

I was going to buy a four track recorder, but my dad's friend, who's in a local band here, told him about Band In A Box, which has all the necessary components to recording your own shit... so I tried out the demo... problem is, there's always a background keyboard doing something I never programmed it to do, and worse even, is that it only deals in chords.

I can't read music, so I use tabs for everything. I spent a good hour or so explaining to my dad that a four track is what I need so that I can use tabs instead of chords and lay down my own tracks for everything, but he's intent on finding a computer program to do it all so that I'm not blasting my guitars for hours on end.

Does anyone know of any good programs similar, that will allow the use of tabs? Any help is appreciated.
