Help with Particular Style

[New Damage]

I'm kind of looking to do a certain effect, but I'm not sure what to look for when searching for tutorials. The effect is examplified beautifully by this poster for the film The Hitcher, and to a lesser degree the poster for that new Morgan Freeman/Matt Damon film Invictus and Burnout Paradise cover.

I can manage to do it simply, but then it just looks like the person is say for a example wearing a coat made of a skyscraper, as opposed to having the image "projected" on the coat with appropriate blending. So any links to any tutorials or even just a name of what this style would be called would be great.

You're just going to want to know about different blending modes and have an eye for style, and images that work together.

Yeah thats pretty much just a rain texture blended in with the scene, over top of the dude in the coat. Looks like some soft or hard light in there.
