  1. I actually really enjoyed this album, I bought it on Vinyl this week after listening to it a few times. Some songs are certainly better than others, and I agree her voice doesn't always fit some of the tunes...

What's Up was pretty good, and she gave it enough of a twist to fit a woman of her age vs the angst of a 25 year old singing it.

Wrecking Ball is also a really good cover.

Don't Let The Sun Shine Down On Me is one of my favourite tracks, easily, and I also really enjoyed I Dreamed Aout Elvis... that's a fun throwback to the origins of Rock and I quite like it. Tried To Rock and Roll Me with Melissa Ethridge is also a really good son and they compliment each other really well. Rockstar is a good new track, Heart of Glass, Satisfaction, My Blue Tears, Heartbreaker, and Let It Be are standouts for me that I really really like.

I didn't realize Jolene was done with Maneskin, and it's a download exclusive sadly, but I'll have to look it up. I enjoy that band a lot and I'm curious how that played out.

  2. Two series' I've really enjoyed are "From" on Amazon. I've worked with a few of the cast before so I was curious to check it out, and it is truly a great mystery / horror series.

The other one I've been binging this week is Yellowjackets, and I'm sorry I slept on this one for so long. The writing is fantastic and the cast is really great, I have no complaints about it.

Props to THR for posting this with the image she currently identified with, much respect for acknowledging her converting to Islam and adopted modesty.

Her voice defined the 90s in many ways, truly iconic. Her activism on THAT night on SNL ended up being proven correctly a decade later and she never got the due apology she deserved or credit for exposing it.

    Rest in Power legend.

  4. I've been on an 80s kick in the last few weeks and have rediscovered some of her hits. She's a singer from my childhood that just was always part of the backdrop somehow. The Best, What's Love Got To Do With It and Proud Mary remain the standouts for me. And I have a vague lasting image of her from Mad Max, though I haven't seen it in decades (struggling to remember if I ever really watched it), the visual of her in the mowhawk in something that is burned in my memory.

From there, as much as I respect and admire her music and artistry... her legend is solidified through her leaving and speaking out against Ike. Letting him keep everything in exchange for her keeping her name, and rebuilding her career from scratch to be even bigger than she ever was with him is nothing short of extraordinary and commendable. Her subtly speaking against racism in America through the guise of "I could never be as big as Madonna there, but I am in Europe" is another big part of my respect for her; reminds me of Josephine Baker in a way.

May she rest in peace, she's earned it.

  5. Nailed the actors here. No real surprised. I don't think JLC edging out the win over Bassett is the upset many are calling for... Angela Bassett performed well but I personally felt her performance in the first film was better, to be frank, and I don't particularly get the hype around it (that being said she's a phenomenal actress who deserves her flowers in a general sense of speaking). I still stand by the fact that Stephanie Hsu had the stronger performance between she and JLC and I personally felt she deserved the award more, but I'm all for recognizing JLC's talent as she has been a genre actress largely cut out of contention despite her talent over the years.

Brendan Faser, Ke Huy Quan and Michelle Yeoh was all but a done deal, no surprises there and definitely deserving of the honor.

I was (pleasantly) wrong about The Fabelmans and thrilled to see EEAAO manage to get the big wins. Good night overall.

Man, the MyRise for the women's title is.... well, there was an attempt.

-Bayley gets Raw GM Mandy Rose (yeah I don't get it either) to appoint her Women's IC Champion. To win it from her you have to defeat international women's wrestlers, then go though a contrived passport process? This leads to a 455 day timeskip where you apparently just...  brood in the rafters doing fuck all in between I guess?

-Meanwhile on Smackdown, Lacy Evans got appointed by Vince McMahon to become Women's US Champion, the payoff of which is... that the title is immediately disbanded right after you win it.

-Every time a mystery or legend is hyped, it's Trish Stratus. Literally every time.

-Oh yeah and in the prologue of the campaign, you get to *immediately* debut on Raw, beating Sasha Banks, only to have to do all the PC stuff anyway which... what.

I mean, she's the only "Legend" available for that. Stephanie is an owner / gm / authority, Mickie is part of the roster and Beth is an NXT trainer... Chyna is dead. That leaves Trish... sorely lacking in women legends on the game clearly.

  7. Now if the Chiefs can kick it into hight gear here....

We thought that too, but no way could she wear a safety harness while pregnant

I can wear one and I look more pregnant than she does these days lol

She may or may not be, I suppose, maybe it was the bulk of the costume to cover the rigging and harness belt as much as possible?

Maybe we also collectively forget what real mom-bods post baby look like... it's only been 10 months. She just didn't Hollywood her way back into a normal "look how fast I bounced back" bod and just... lived life... Who knows?

  8. That was a good halftime show. I thought she knocked it out of the park. She actually didn't sound pitchy, for probably the first time I've ever noticed. The 7 years off worked for her.

The staging was phenomenal... I thought it was CGI at first glance until I saw her safety belt and the strap behind her, then I saw the wires. Mad props to the rigging team on that one. And yea, the platform was def wobbly, you saw it swaying noticeably during Diamonds. I got nervous for her.

This season. It's made what used to be a clear decision (BBC) into a tough one as both ITV and Sky will have adverts. I'm going Sky because I'm paying for it, so I may as well use it.

I'm sure the US commentary will be on both though.

Nothing sums up DJ Khaled like being the hype man for both teams. Dude will literally represent anything that pays him, and I'm still struggling to understand why he is popular.

Clealry Hot Ones didn't pay him, because that episode was anything but Hype... yikes. Absolutely not a fan of his and also struggle to understand why he is as famous as he is...

In terms of the game, I'm def rooting for the Chiefs here; I missed the majority of the second quarter, making dinner and had to run to the store... but the first quarter was decent. The elbow edging the guy out of the touchdown in that first play... oof.

Oh so Rihanna is doing the half time? That's the first good one they've had for about ten years. Might have a look.

Sir... Lady Gaga was stellar. And J-Lo and Shakira was a pretty good show. Bruno Mars did ok, same with Katy Perry overall, and I'm not a big fan but The Weekend was aight from what I recall. And again, not a huge fan, but Beyonce/Destiny Child was pretty good if memory serves.

I'm not fussed about Rihanna, as I don't think she's a particularly strong vocalist, but I'm sure it'll be decent... her songs are catchy.

    Regarding Jason Takes Manhattan:

      Hide contents

The boxer is in the running for `Dumbest Motherfucker To Ever Try And Fight Jason'. Easily my favorite kill in that movie.

    And Jason X sucks.

Agreed. On both those counts haha... But I remember watching Jason X in high school and it was .... I mean, dumb... but I think I got more enjoyment out of it at the time than I got from Part 7... Fuck the telekenetic thing.... wtf were they thinking?

  12. I've been on a massive horror kick for the last little while...

I've watched the Scream movies... I mean, they're great... I loved the last one and look forward to the new one coming out.

This week I've had Friday the 13th playing while I'm doing housework... I mean, it's campy, no surprise there. It's... cringy how overtly sexist these 80s films were... boobs, boobs everywhere. I'm also deepy offended that the original is 43 years old because I'm an 80s baby and that's just... rude... the 60s were 40 years ago. Fuck.

    Part 1

    Spoiler

It's one of the better ones by default. I consistently forget how Jason has nothing to do with the film, beyond the backstory plot.

Completely forgot Kevin Bacon was in this.

The final fight scene between Pamela and Alice was pretty cringe... haha the acting was hokey AF, especially Mrs Vorhees.

But overall was a fun movie. It was wild going back to it, because it's been at least 20 years since I've seen it and I had totally forgotten who the "final girl" was... I had misremembered and mixed some of the franchise together.

It's also strange how this movie, in a way, invented a lot of the horror tropes we've come to accept as the stereotypical slasher thing... and then, this entry is so different to the rest of the series in a way which consistently deviates from it's original plot. It's the first but it almost doesn't belong.

    Part 2

    Spoiler

I enjoyed this one almost as much as the first, and the whole ending sequence is the one I confused as being in the original one (also, Ginny is the character I associated with the Final Girl trope most from this series). That was, to be, the quintessential Jason ending in the series... the impersonating the mother and whatnot.

I liked the opening scene, even though it was a bit anti-climatic... actually, I've noticed that a lot of the Jason films are fairly lackluster on gore overall... I mean, some is brutal but a lot of it cuts away from the actual gore and shows a shot of the body after (budget reasons I'm sure, from experience, gore is expensive).

This was a strong follow up to the first, imo. I'd rank just below it.

    Part 3

    Spoiler

SO physically, this is the Jason character's birth... this is the vision we all know when we think of him.

I can't say I disliked the movie, it was just more of the typical stuff... I'm not sure how I feel about the plot point of Chris having been a previous survivor of Jason attacks as a girl and is now returning to .... forget or face or relive the trauma? It's an odd sell... It also kinda negates the origins of the character with it happening to her as a kid if the year prior was when he rose from the water and began his attacks...?

Anyways, nothing offensive but I didn't find it especially memorable as a movie.

Part 4 (aka The Final Chapter)

    Spoiler

Meh... I mean, I popped more at seeing Cory Feldman here, which is another star to be I completely forgot about, as well as Crispin Glover.

The open of him waking up in the morgue was another Jason scene that is seeped in my memory.

The fact of having a kid in here... mehhhhhhhhh ..... I felt like they were trying to set him up to be the "new" Jason, but then... didn't follow through with the next movies. The end really played into that, with the head shaving and slashing of Jason and stuff.

Largely forgettable though, and what wasn't was not particularly good.

    Part 5 (A New Beginning)

    Spoiler

I did not care for this much... Again, mostly blah and not really memorable.

I did not care for the reveal that it was NOT Jason this time, but a copy-cat murderer who was out for revenge because his son died in a previous film?

The tractor thing was a bit lame and nothing from the film really stood out to me very much. I don't really have anything to say.

    Part 6 (Jason Lives)

    Spoiler

This one is interesting... Jason is now fully some undead monster demon thing officially... Which adds to the lore.

It also is pretty much a tongue-in-cheek parody of itself, breaking the fourth wall and whatnot.

This is classic Tommy Jarvis at his finest. He and Megan are really good characters. It was watching the series return to form, quite frankly, and was one of the better entries in the series easily... I'd put it at a solid third personally.

The ending was, I mean... they're also fairly melodramatic, so nothing unsurprising of offensive there, but yea... it was fun, and I had forgotten about the chain and rock thing in the lake. The boat motor thing... I had a good time with this one.

The paintball scene was ridiculous. I laughed but .. what even was that haha

    Part 7 (The New Blood)

    Spoiler

What a stupid movie. Genuinely... this was the worst of the series to date, easily (and I've seen the newer ones all already and from memory... this is the worst)

The Telekenetic Final Girl thing was completely stupid. Hogwash. The final scene was like a Dollar Store Girl from Poltergeist grew up to be a Dollar Store Carrie and she has to fight Jason.. by throwing a house plant at him.

The characters were idiots... and I know with these slashers there's always a suspension of belief where logic gets thrown out the window but.... towards the end, fuck right off. First theres the bitchy Melissa who decides right when hell is breaking loose that "I'm going home to sleep" and eats an axe upon opening the door... And then the lead, Tina, uses her magic powers to shut the door and pull a table in front of the door.... but puts the table on the jason side of the door, and then is surprised when he manages to get through her barricade.... girl...

I'm mad he didn't kill them. To be clear.

I'll give it a positive though.... the character design of a decaying water-logged Jason is absolutely top level. The chain, the bones sticking out... well done special effects, makeup and costume teams. well done.

Oh, and the sleeping bag kill. I forgot it was in this, and I was not disappointed.

    Part 8 (Jason Takes Manhattan)

    Spoiler

I forgot this title existed... I have really low hopes... but I also have a really low bar because of the last dumpster fire.

I'll say, it was far from a strong entry, but not as offensive as I would have thought. Much better than Part 7.

Jason harldy takes Manhattan, so much as he takes the high seas because 3/4 of the film take place on a boat (two boats if you count the opening). The Final Girl, Rennie... she sees child Jason throughout... ugh. Hated that. Bad trope.

Her whole bonding with him underwater (well... trauma bonding through him trying to kill her) was one thing, but the reveal in a burning puddle of gasoline was not as dramatic as they likely thought. Him turning back into a kid, I guess, was meant to humanize him.... but.... I dunno, none of this worked very well.

Too much melodrama again. The decapitating the boxer on the roof was fun, the acid vat... I mean, typical 1989 stuff, when you see Ninja Turles, Batman, etc. I actually found this one okay when they were on the boat (aside from ghost Jason kid) and if they could've played it straight throughout in that situation (ie. No Manhattan), it would have fared better imo.

Up Next is Jason Goes to Hell ... and Sci-Fi Jason X before doign the remake... might jump into Freddy vs Jason too.

  13. So I'm listening to the new Shania Twain album while doing dishes today and low and behold, she's dropping F-Bombs in some of her lyrics... 2023, what a time to be alive.

(also some catchy tunes on that album, have to say).

Also listened to the new Lukas Gram album, Pink... he knocked it out of the park. I mean, it's not better than his Purple Album which is truly one of my faves to listen to from start to finish (genius artist imo), but was a strong follow up.

Some massive improvements are gonna be needed for Universe if they want me to drop $70 on this. And even then, I might wait a few months. Hopefully by the summer Fight Forever will be out, since I really only buy WWE games now to sim AEW stuff. Or a ECW or WCW universe mode. I rarely care about the current roster beyond maybe the first week or so.

I don't mind MyFaction like most people, but man do I miss the towers mode from... 2K19, I think? That was fun. They have it in MyFaction but it's just annoying, like a lot of tag matches or multi-man matches. And the AI breaks shit up way too much.

Towers would be a very welcome re-addition. I thought that was one of the better features they had in-game.

  15. Got around to watching Bros finally, and I actually really liked it.

I found the sex scenes / hook up scenes hillarious, and mostly because of how relatable it was. As a whole, despite being a typical rom-com, it really played well on the depictions of gay dating, and struggles of gay relationships (I've definitely been told by someone I was seeing that I should be less myself, in terms of what I talked about / activism, etc. ... I've also been on the otherside and sabotaged what could've been good relationship because the other person was "too gay") ... the infidelities, the polyamourous stuff, the debates about what is gay enough, not gay enough, bi-erasure... jokes about the lesbian characters, I mean... it was all exagerated for comedy, but I laughed because of how much of it I've personally experienced.

    Anyways, I really recommend it.

  16. I just bought a PS5 and it came with God of War Ragnarok.

I'm not usually really good at these types of games, but I do generally WANT to like them (I'm more into WWE games or Mortal Kombat as opposed to RPG)... But holy hell, is this game ever good. I'm really enjoying the story and it plays fairly easily... I still get annoyed at the fighting aspect, it feels like a slog (personal bias to those types of games), but the story is strong enough to keep me on track.

    I can't recommend it enough.

I'm just going to stick to the Oscar predictions for now...

    Best Picture
    Winner: The Fabelmans
Other Nominees: Top Gun: Maverick, Everything Everwhere All At Once, Tar, Elvis, Avatar: The Way of Water, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, The Banshees of Inisherin, Women Talking (+The Fablemans)

    8/10 Nominees guessed....
I'm not too surprised Glass Onion didn't get the nomination, it was my wild guess (I removed Triangle of Sadness for it here, that was a mistake). Black Panther I'm shocked didn't get recognized here.

Completely missed All Quiet on the Western Front... I'm not really familiar with it, but... yea, Black Panther should be here instead.

I still think The Fabelmans takes the win, no contest.

    Best Director
    Winner: Steven Spielberg
Other Nominees: Baz Luhrmann, James Cameron, Joseph Kosinski, Gina Prince-Bythewood (+Steven Spielberg)
(I think Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert are a shoe-in for the Screenplay, but I think they get edged out here; Sarah Polley is another one who can easily fit imo)

    1/5 Nominees guessed...
Missed Martin McDonagh (again, someone I had shortlisted but but Gina Prince-Bythewood instead), Todd Field (no surprise there), and Ruben Ostund (I'm surprised he was recognized... not that it isn't deserved I just thought the field was so competitive he was for sure going to be a miss)... Sarah Polley, while not one of my initial picks (by a slim margin) should have been included in the list of nominees... And I'm really surprised James Cameron missed out.

Steven Spielberg takes the win here along with The Fabelmans.

I'm ... annoyed at the fact that this category even exists... It is, in my opinion, nonsense and should be amalgamated into the Best Picture award. A film is made by the director, and the only reason they are seperate is for the studio executives and producers can pat themselves on the back with their own award. I'm not saying producers aren't important to film making, but artistically.... a film is a Best Film because it had the Best Director. They go hand in hand... how can you be the best director if your film isn't the best film of the year? And vice versa? It makes zero sense.

Best Film Category should be recognized and accepted by the director (and toss the names of producers on there to make themselves feel better).

    Best Actor
    Winner: Brendan Fraser
Other Nominees: Austin Butler, Colin Farrell, Tom Cruise, Hugh Jackman (+Brendan Faser)
(throwing caution to the wind, I think Tom Hanks is very much in the running and I hear great things about Bill Nighy but I haven't heard much about the film so... mayyyyyyybe a long shot but Will Smith might end up on the ballot despite his attending ban)

    3/5 Nominees Guessed...

I mean no big surprises really in the field here. I missed Bill Nighy (though he was a dark horse contender I picked), and Paul Mescal was someone I thought was too much of a longshot but great to see him here. I'm (pleasantly) surprised Tom Cruise wasn't recognized; I don't think he was stellar in the film, good movie but... nothing out of the ordinary imo. And Hugh Jackman was a total dark horse prediction, so I'm not shocked.

Brendan Fraser is a lock to win (though I think Austin Butler has a slim shot but...)

    Best Actress
    Winner: Michelle Yeoh
Other Nominees: Cate Blanchett, Michelle Williams, Danielle Deadwyler, Viola Davis (+Michelle Yeoh)
(Jennifer Lawrence has a good shot for her return to acting imo, and Margot Robbie tends to get a lot of love so I wouldn't be surprised to see her get a nod, and Ana de Armas is my personal blackhorse but I fear she may get edged out)

    3/5 Nominees Guessed...

Again, super competitve field but it came at a cost. I'm thrilled Ana de Armas was recognized. The movie was weird and certainly not for everyone, but I enjoyed it for what it was and thought it was creative... Ana's performance helped keep it together though and it was really well deserved, one of the strongest Marilyn performances out there imo. I'm not too fussed she edged out Viola Davis here (and that's who I'd have replaced her with).

Danielle Deadwyler getting knocked out of contention is criminal. Genuinely... such a powerhouse performance and she should have been recognized here. I'd have taken Michelle Williams out over her, to be honest. Michelle is good, but the weaker of the performances in contention imo (though she's an Academy fave).

Andrea Riseborough was a total shock (to everyone I think), but by all accounts, her performance was stellar. So I'd have kept her and Danielle in and bumped Michelle Williams and Viola Davis to round out the top 5.

I still think Michelle Yeoh takes it home, but Cate Blanchett might pull out the "upset".

    Best Supporting Actor
    Winner: Ke Huy Quan
Other Nominees: Judd Hirsch, Brad Pitt, Brian Tyree Henry, Ben Whishaw (+ Ke Huy Quan)
(again a tight category, I think both Brendan Gleeson and Barry Keoghan have a good shot but I didn't want to pick one over the other, and Tom Hanks might end up on this list, and Eddie Redmayne or Ben Foster too)

    3/5 Nominees Guessed.

Zero surprises here... I had Brendan and Barry in my list but didn't know who to choose so I put Brad Pitt and Ben Wishaw in there instead.

Ke Huy Quan is still a strong favourite here, but I wouldn't be surprised if Judd Hirsch etches him out... the Academy love their old men.

    Best Supporting Actress
    Winner: Jamie Lee Curtis
Other Nominees: Angela Bassett, Nina Hoss, Stephanie Hsu, Dolly De Leon (+ Jamie Lee Curtis)
(a few longshots in here, I thinnk Kerry Condon is also a front runner, Carey Mulligan, Jessie Buckley, Claire Foy, and Gabrielle Union are also strong contenders... Janelle Monae may also get the 'singer turned actress' nod, and I wouldn't hate to see Whoopi Goldebrg  or Laura Dern here)

    3/5 Nominees Guessed
I missed Hong Chau (well deserved performance here, great to see) and Kerry Condon was a front runner of mine, but I but Dolly De Leon instead.

I'm absolutely thrilled Stephanie Hsu got a nomination here... I had her on my prediction list as a total dark horse pick, but she is so deserving. I actually think she's got a strong shot to win (tbh, I prefered her performance over JLC in EEAAO). I think I'm going to relunctantly stick to JLC winning here, though its a tight race (that I'll likely regret) between she and Angela Bassett, though I'm hoping Stephanie Hsu actually edges them both out for the dark horse surprise win.

  18. The worst part is the people who've used it to push this anti-vax rhetoric... people are absolutely vile.

I hope she rests easy... the timing is eerie with the movie about her dad and everything.

Her father and paternal grandmother both had heart attacks young as well, such a shame.

  19. I'm just going to stick to the Oscar predictions for now...

    Best Picture
    Winner: The Fabelmans
Other Nominees: Top Gun: Maverick, Everything Everwhere All At Once, Tar, Elvis, Avatar: The Way of Water, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, The Banshees of Inisherin, Women Talking
