  1. Yea, I have had zero tech issues I have to say. It's been running smooth here.

I'm having a tough time with the open world... I enjoy it, but there's no structure and it's messing with my head a bit haha. But I'm enjoying the game.

I've done one Gym, one Titan and one Team Star camp. Tried a secon gym but I've lost twice, so I'm training up my type advantage pokemon now.

Specifically this is brought up by my other half watching True Blood for a binge. Remembering how bad Tara was, I thought Rutina Wesley was just a particularly bad actress (not that the show was award winning theatre, but she particularly a sticking point).

I saw her years later in Hannibal and she blew me away. Ever since I see her in other bits and love her.

Interesting... Rutina was always a highlight on True Blood for me.

In terms of actors I used to dislike that I've grown to appreciate I have to put Kristin Stewart on that list... I don't particularly think she's one of the greats or anything yet but... her recent work compared to her early adult years is night and day. I really enjoyed her work in Spencer (obviously), and same with Underwater. Charlie's Angels wasn't a great flick by any stretch but I didn't find her as wooden in there as she usually is.

Also Andrew Garfield... he is genuinely becoming one of the greats, where I found him to be rather dull or one note early on. But his work on Tick Tick Boom, and Tammy Faye, Under the Banner of Heaven... hell, even his MCU Spiderman appearance was a far cry from his previous turn at it. I worked with him recently and seeing him off screen and interacting with him as Andrew and then watching him work really gave me a new appreciation as to how good he really is.

Didn't find the Rey stuff too interesting, but it was easy enough (just a couple of the 'dive to the outside' type objectives were tricky because I think the way the pause menu explained how to do them may have been wrong!). The match footage is nice and it continually intrigued me as to what got blurred and what didn't. But generally, it's standard showcase fare I suppose.

Honestly the thing that bugged me most about it was Rey's kayfabe commentary. 😅

This... I spent a lot of time during the rey mode wondering why 5 fans are blurred but the others arent... logos, etc. Was a bit distracting.

I just lost by countout at the count of 4

I had a weird glitch too... I threw HHH out of the ring, and followed him out. My managers jumped in the ring while we were out. And then the bell rang and I was announced as the winner...

    No idea what happened.

  5. Rey Mysterio stuff is tough... I mean, he just... is such an easy target against the big guys, I'm getting the shit kicked out of me and going red too early, it makes it near impossible to finish all the requirements. I managed to beat HBK, Samoa Joe, The Miz and Gran Metallik so far... the others... no so much.

  6. Well, what a shitty way to cap off the year. May she rest in peace. She is a true legend and icon, and the world was a better place for having her in it. I've been a fan for as long as I can remember and I absolutely will continue to be one. She was a genius and a personal comedic inspiration (along with Bea Arthur) and I hope she died proud of all her accomplishments.

RIP Betty, truly one of a kind.

I haven't watched a ton this year.... this was a stretch.

  8. That's the thing exactly, was the ending. Clearly they were banking on it.

Which... serves the producers right to try and benefit from it, imo. I've worked for too many of those types to feel anything other than annoyed or contempt for what they tried to do.

  9. Oscars

    Spoiler

Anyone watch tonight... ? ... Been a weird year, and I can't say I've seen a lot of what was nominated.

Glad to have seen Chloe Zhao get the win, Nomadland looks good and it's on my to-watch list. It winning best picture was no big surprise either, imo. Though I was shocked they didn't end the show with the best picture category.

Anthony Hopkins is a legend, and by all accounts did a great job in The Father, but winning over Chadwick Boseman was criminal. I suspect they put it on last in the hopes of the big heartfelt ending, but that backfired hard and fell even more flat with Hopkins not having a speech at all and Joaquin Phoenix looking he couldn't give less of a shit to be there and do this.

Frances McDormand was a surprise as well, though likely not undeserved. I really assumed Andra Day had it in the bag. Though Viola Davis was phenomenal in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and I would not have been upset.

Daniel Kaluuya is a solid actor and I was happy to see him win, though I've not seen the film. I am unfamilair with Minari at all, but Youn Yuh-jung had a really entertaining and endearing speech. Gutted for Glenn Close, I thought this was her year and she was a highlight of Hillbilly Elegy (which I'm surprised didn't nab more nominations.... I loved it)

Side note, I can't understand how Borat was nominated for Best Screenplay (seeing as the nature of the film is largely not... scripted and dependent on the other participants' reactions).... and that goes for Maria Bakalova getting nominated. I mean no disrespect to her because that is no easy feat for any actor to go through... but ..... a film of that genre doesn't sit well with me as an Oscar Nominated contender in those categories specifically.

I hated that the ceremony didn't show examples of the work for the technicians... I want to see the costumes, hair and makeup, visual effects, production design, etc.

  10. Spoiler

I mean, I'm a Mortal Kombat fanatic. It's easily my favourite game series. I was stoked about this movie and decided to cave and spend the 25$ (💀) to watch it on Apple.

I really enjoyed it overall. I hated seeing characters like Mileena and Goro be relegated to fodder, but I mean... what can you do? I personally marked hard for Nitara, and even though she dies quick... this was a good use of a known character who is fairly unimportant to the overall lore. Ditto for Reiko (who I was surprised was there, I assumed when I saw the huge guy with a hammer that it was Tremor).

Reptile got a raw deal, again... but that was a good use of him. In fairness, they can easily retcon this and make it so it was Chameleon all along... who actually was transparent in the games a lot more than Reptile.

Cole... meh... I mean, it didn't hurt the show to have him but I did find him a tad trope-y and a little dull overall.

Kano will likely be back in the sequel. Sub-Zero will too and burning him to a crisp and showing him blackened with the smoke effects constantly are going to transform him to Noob and we'll see the brother Sub-Zero come in.

This was by no means a stellar movie, but for a B-Movie Action type of thing, it was solid and catered to the fanbase overall. I'm looking forward to seeing more of the franchise in the years to come. And honestly, I wouldn't hate seeing Cole appear as DLC in the game to tie in.

    Re: Mortal Kombat

  11. I can't say this one captivated me as much as WandaVision did from the onset. I mean, I'm really no Captain America fan to begin with.. such a whiny character imo.

I'm hoping this series helps establish something different going forward.

    Spoiler

I can't say I've seen much of the Captain America series... are we supposed to know who the new Captain is? That wasn't Bucky, right?

I've never bought into Wanda and Vision's relationship because the entire thing happened off-screen, for no apparent reason except that they're together in the comics. The attempts at pathos fell flat for me because none of it's been earned.

This I agree with fully... I think That's why this series worked for me, because it allowed me to understand their relationship and how deep it runs. It gave both characters proper depth... I don't need to see how the relationship started really, as most shows just write and establish characters as is (they have a life prior to the show and afterwards). But I agree, in the films, it fell flat.

Wanda killing Vision in Infinity Wars never did anything for me because I just had no clue there was a romantic thing going on with them... It didn't resonate much.

That's why I think theses series' have the potential to really be something important and potentially game changing to the MCU. If it were me, and I've said it before, I'd go all in with the TV format and save the films for big cross over events like Endgame.

This is where I am too. I enjoyed the intrigue of the early episodes then everything was flat until the finale. The finale is the first time since Endgame that I connected with Wanda on an emotional level. I love cool sci-fi stuff and surprises/reveals but it's meaningless without that emotional punch-- I'm coming out of the show feeling good about it because the finale finally delivered that.

Wanda was super relatable and heart-wrenching in the films to the point I teared up at Vision's death so a lot of WV was disappointing for me as I felt disconnected from it all, until the end.

Huh, interesting...I was in the total opposite boat.

  14. Finale thoughts

    Spoiler

My first thoughts was really that this series is the perfect example of why the MCU should be told in a series format instead of films.

Genuinely, much better flow and storytelling and it just is a perfect example of why character development is crucial to good storytelling.

Wanda and Vision went from being two recognizable but very much in the background of the group type of characters (save a few highlight points), to being these fully fleshed out, emotional beings within the MCU. Imagine how much more poignant Vision's death at Wanda's hands had been with a series behind them, as opposed to three films where they played two out of 30 to 60 characters vying for the same screen time.

I also am just of the opinion that comic book stories translate better to television format than feature film. I think there's a lot to be said of having these mini series' work alongside each other and building together to these big even films like Endgame or Infinity Wars or Civil War whatever. If it were me, I'd restructure the MCU around it. That was my biggest take away.

In terms of the series finale... I didn't find myself upset at all about any theories being wrong. Personally, as a fan, I'm hoping this Bohner character ends up evolving into something a bit more than a random gag, as Evan Peters is such a fantastic character and should be a much bigger deal and acquisition within the MCU.

I'd love to see more of Agatha, so I'm hoping that tease line brings her back down the line somewhere.

Maybe the kids come back as their adult counterparts in Dr. Strange 2? That could be what the end credit scene was about... I think it's clear she's looking for a way to bring them back. And White Vision will surely be a thing in some movie or show down the line, equipped with Vision's memories and his new powers.

Excited to see Monica moving on to other things as well, likely it won't be Captain Marvel 2 but I'm excited to see where it goes. She was a good character who needs more screen time.

  15. I disagree with that assessment.

    Spoiler

I don't think it's a retcon... it's always been part of the story that they were the only two to survive the experiments... now we have a better idea why. They are superpowered, in a way (and even that was left up in the air... are they superpowered naturally or were they chosen BY the Infinity Stones / Universe to be these powered beings ... we now know she is The Scarlet Witch... what that means or entails is yet to be determined...

It could just be some kind of Phoenix situation where she was chosen as the host / next in line.

To me, it made the MCU a little more interesting... how many more Alien invasion storylines can we do? So now, if we're moving away from the Blip and Snap and slowly edging towards the arrival of Mutants and Superpowered Beings and all that jazz, it gives the Universe more depth.

I'm not really sure how to respond to the "Superpower lore doesn't sit well with me..." because... it's the MCU. The whole thing is literally about superpowered humans. We've seen them activated via radioactive energy, science experiements gone wrong, science experiements gone right, military experiements, serums, aliens, intergalactic stones and magic.... The fact is that the superhuman lore being accepted as the norm thing has been part of the series since the start, with Captain America during WW2 and even Hulk wasn't hiding from the general public... so it is common knowledge, and has been accepted already..

I'm more than ready to see what the next step in that is. It seems like they're going into a "Thank You for saving the world and also fuck you freaks" story, and that could be very interesting (especially in relation to current events).

I was going to say... Finale hasn't happened so who know about those last two.

Evan Peters' stunt casting was obvious from the start. Really wishful thinking from fans... the multiverse thing is happening, it's the name of the next Dr. Strange movie... but I think the Fox Films are going to stay separate from the MCU. No cross overs.

Which imo is fine. I enjoy the X-Men movies for what they are but I'm looking forward to seeing what the MCU does with these characters and their world, and how they relate to the one they've created.

  17. Spoiler

I can't remember if we see her steal Vision's body in those past episodes or if the footage was only for her smashing into the room / through the doors... which we saw in that memory..

I think he manufactured the footage to cut out before she leaves with the body though.... and then told the story he needed to tell to hide the fact they were rebuilding a new, stronger, Vision.

That was my take away... but again, I don't remember if we saw her leave with the body or not.
