  1. Interesting follow up episode...

    Spoiler

Glad the sitcom thing is done... it was cute and creative and I enjoyed it for most of the series, but the story outside of the sitcom setting was getting better as we progressed and the sitcom tropes just weren't working with the modern take.

Not following up on Vision, Monica, Darcy and Fake Pietro was a tad annoying... especially leading into the finale.

Now I'm not sure if the twist is that Wanda actually did do it along, or if the Mephisto rumors will come true after all (despite Agatha not working for him).

I'm very intrigued where this story goes with the series leading into those movies... because the films are not Wanda centric, and the story most certainly is... it seems like a near impossible task to wrap everything up in a half hour, there's so much left to unfold.

Confused about how Vision was able to have some autonomy if Wanda created him from scratch... same with the kids. That's why there's a part of me that still thinks there's a missing link here. Clearly Agatha isn't in on it proper, but I'm not convinced Wanda is the end all be all here.

Oh, and a particular scene towards the end:

      Hide contents

The fly and the rabbit. Is that Tommy & Billy, transformed by Agatha? Or... is the fly on the wall actually Mephisto?

    Spoiler

I don't think it's the kids. I think the fly idea is interesting, but the bunny was in the episode a few times before the kids were at her place, and even being held by one of them so...

Kind of a meh episode, but that's to be expected at some point. Didn't make it any less interesting overall, as it just sets up what's to come. But I didn't feel it was particularly well structured as a cohesive episode.

    Spoiler

I'm anticipating the kids to age up again sooner rather than later. Which will be much more interesting... I think now that the sitcom stuff is waning, there's less of a need to have these pre-teens here.

Agatha was an expected reveal. I assume Evan Peters is Mephisto, but I'm curious to see where they go with is exactly.

I enjoy the Darcy character a lot, but the stuff with her and Vision was really useless overall in this episode and it really disrupted the flow of everything... Cohesion was a big problem this episode, which is not something I've been able to complain a lot about. They've managed to really blend the two clear themes of the show (with the inside the Hex v Outside of it stuff)... but it just did not work here at all.

I assume Vision dies in the end... which is sad... but where can they go with him if he can't leave the hex?

  3. Spoiler

I'm pretty convinced, and have been from day 1, that "Pietro" is a red herring / imposter. And I think Wanda knows, a lot of her lines with him were about "hey remember when" type of stuff, almost quizzing him. I think he'll be the "big bad" here, in the end.

Agnes is in on it too, I'm convinced. Her scene in the car... I'm sure she was faking it. The others that were trapped away from Wanda were not talking, or moving... she was repeating stuff over and over... She wanted Vision to leave because she knew it would kill him. She also snapped back into her character really fast as if nothing happened... again, despite her being far from Wanda. So unlike everyone else in the town.

Wanda, I still don't think is totally in control of her powers, despite the fact they evidently grew today. There was the whole thing with the white spots in the scene were traced in a weird graphic line thing... and I think  it symbolizes her world was fragile and the illusion was coming undone quickly. She's struggling to maintain the illusion but she knows, and Vision knows and everyone seems to know that it's exactly that and she;s struggling to keep believing it herself. I think she made a "deal with the devil" to live in this world. She explicitly said she can't bring back the dead, which is why I'm sure there's something else more nefarious at work here that brought Vision back, at a cost to her. One cost, evidently, that he only stays alive as long as he is inside the Hex.

    Just regarding Episode 6.

  4. Wow. I yelled "Oh Shit" out loud three times watching this week's episode.

    Spoiler

First... when Wanda came out of Westview and into the world to confront SWORD....

    Second... Quicksilver at the door.

Third... Quicksilver being Evan Peters. That was a big shock as I assumed they would have just started the X-Men timeline anew.

    I'm super intrigued.

You joke, but Alpha Flight would be a killer show. You've got the Native American stuff that can be explored, fucking bigfoot and possibly even Wolverine. I'd love to see them bring Wolvie to the MCU with something that isn't X-Men right off the bat. Explore his past with Weapon X and let him do some canuck shit before he joins the X-Men.

Yes, and ideally they can come shoot it up here so I can work it 😆 .. perfect canadian setting up north and all.

  6. If they're developping more content for a series format, I'd personally love to see the MCU guys tackle the X-Men in a tv series format. I just thing television lends itself better to those characters / story, as there's so much to tell. And they can tie them into the movies fairly well regardless, from the series.

WandaVision is a hit. Genuinely, I really like it and it's probably my favorite MCU product thus far... which totally took me by surprise as I'm not a big fan of either character... but the series format is really working here. And they've gone all out with it.

  7. Anybody try Battleground yet? Just wondering what people think.

Personally.... it's a fun little game but a let down as the replacement for the WWE 2K series imo. I'd still love to see EA tackle a WWE game tbh.

  8. I watched the new Child's PLay with Aubrey Plaza. I honestly didn't expect it to be very good or anything but we really enjoyed it, surprisingly. I mean, I personally have never been a big fan of the series and think the concept is a bit tough to get into... but I thought this was well done considering.

I can't say I was a huge fan of the doll design and the CGI face was not great. But I eventually got past that.

Honestly, I don't think Disney-Marvel would ever recast the role of T'Challa. I see them moving Shuri, M'Baku, or even W'Kabi into a more proment role before changing the face of T'Challa.

Replacing Terrence Howard with Don Cheadle for the role of Rhodey is one thing, especially since it was very early days for the MCU and Terrence Howard walked away from the role on his own volition (rightfully, if the reports of him being heavily lowballed are true). I think it's going to take a very long time until people will be remotely warmed up to seeing a different face in the role of T'Challa.

For many, Boseman/T'Challa is such a deep source of inspiration in seeing that a black actor can not only lead a film, but smash records doing it, that it would be somewhat dismissive of the accomplishments to just put someone else into the shoes of what was a historical moment in contemporary cinema.

And I don't see Disney-Marvel even trying it, they have many more options to explore before they might want to humour a recasting.

Best to retire the T'Challa character with grace, use T'Challa and Chadwick Boseman as the everlasting pillar of inspiration, and choose to elevate someone else/a different character to pass the torch to, even if nobody had ever ever wanted it to happen so prematurely.

Like the Black Panther film explained, The Black Panther isn't one man, it can be anyone, it's the heart of a people.

I think this is a good out for Marvel to avoid recasting T'Challa while simultaneously debuting a new Black Panther. Shuri is an interesting choice, and would be something to have a Black Female leading a superhero franchise. She also took on the mantle in the comics for a time, so there's a precedent there.

Regardless... what a shit news cycle. Honestly, I was stunned when I heard last night. Still pretty unbelievable that he was suffering from cancer through essentially his entire rise to fame. It's pretty crazy that the news never leaked and that's a testament to his support system.

Same! I was going to be in town when it was showing and then of course travel stopped and... yeah. I didn't have tickets yet but I knew I was going to cave in and buy in when I arrived.

I got some gift certificates for Mirvish for christmas... hoping they allow it to roll over to next season.

Disney Plus just dropped a filmed version of Hamilton with the original cast, I've been waiting for this!

I was supposed to see Hamilton in Toronto prior to this COVID happening... I'll check out the Disney one instead I guess :)

    Spoiler

Kind of a dull episode. It's a shame to see Ongina go, but she really didn't do well.

That song they did was booooooooooring. Gawd, completely dull. I really enjoyed Shea here and I thought Blair did pretty well. Nobody else really stood out at all. I liked the idea of Shea's runway look, but I didn't feel is was executed really well. It's a look that's been done before by many celebs and performers in the past, and they've all done it better. By contrast, I thought Blair had a really great look and the most creative use of the theme on the runway yesterday... Michelle was dead wrong.

Alyssa .... is not someone I ever viewed as a Lip Synch master by any stretch, I'm not surprised Shea won here.

  13. S12 Finale

    Spoiler

Just ugh.... Jaida was my least favorite of the three. In my opinon, Gigi should have won based on everything this season (minus the final lipsynch).

I thought Gigi nailed the close-up. I really disliked Jaida getting close and far from the camera the whole time, it was not great. Carson nailed it when he talked about Gigi eyelash acting throughout. Didn't think of it until he said it, but yea, that's what happened.

I'm Like A Bird was hilarious. So creative. She nailed it and made the most of the at home version of the lip synch.

Take On Me, could have been more exciting but I loved every minute of it. I work in costumes and Set Design and maybe that's why I was really taken by it, because that was an amazing set and costume. The jump and costume switch worked flawlessly. This was genuinely my favorite of the three...

Jaida's lip Synch was boring in my opinion. I think she'd have nailed it doing that on the typical lipsynch set, but with the at home theme and limitless possibilities for creativity... I really felt like it exposed her biggest flaws as a performer. She's a beauty queen, there's no denying that, and she really showed how limited her skill set is beyond that with this. I thought it was messy.

With the final lipsynch, I'll echo what was said with Gigi and agree it was really disappointing. The Dorothy thing, I didn't even get what the reveal was until my second watch (I rewatched the season with a friend who hadn't seen it). It was pretty lame, considering how she usually thrives with that kind of stuff. I'm genuinely surprised.

Crystal I thought did well for the lipsynch, but she could have gone further for sure. Her costume and make up though was phenomenal. It's probably one of my favorite looks of the season. She looked polished and Vegas ready with that alone. Just lacked energy.

Jaida, I will say, did pretty well with this lipsynch. Again, the reveal was a but womp womp, but the crown in her costume was a good one.

    All Stars 5, Ep 1

    Spoiler

I think this has the potential to be a decent season. The beef with India and Derrick was ... I mean I'm surprised it's not something we'll be seeing more of this season, but yea.

I think the judges are lost though. I did not think Shea did well at all. If you are going to do a pole dance... be good at it. She barely used the pole and didn't do much aside from spin around it. Plus, she didn't even tuck (which I'm surprised they didn't nail her on). She was near the bottom for me, easily. Same with Alexis Mateo. That was boring, the dancing wasn't great.... just very meh. She was good enough to not be in the bottom, but nowhere near the top for me.

Derrick was awful... I'm a fan of her schtick.... but I mean, you're a Britney cover. It's what you do. Own it. It's laughable that she says she's here to "prove I'm more than just Britney" and then proceeded to show up on Day 1 looking... just like Britney... and then crying that people "need to understand this is what I do...." well, then don't set up the expectation that you're more than just a Britney look-a-like and then proceed to only do Britney looks and then proceed to cry when people say she needs to do more than just Britney. Like... Girl.

Mayhem Miller didn't do that bad in my opinion. Wasn't great, but if it werent' for the lack of pronunciation she'd be safe. I'd have put Shea in the bottom with Derrick, tbh.

India was good. I loved that she remixed those things about the contact sport. She's right... I've no idea who she was outside of that moment; no recollection of her. But, hey own it. That was a genius move because she took it and now we automatically have something new to know her by. THAT being said, I thought Mariah (another one I've no recollection of) should have won. That was a stellar performance, and especially the timing of now when the show is airing... so poignant. I loved it. If not her, I'd say Jujube was very much up there. Those would have been my top 3.

Interesting twist this season with brining in other queens to lip synch the winner. Yvie was amazing, and showed why she won. India phoned it in I thought. There was no way Yvie was losing. And there was no way Derrick wasn't going home. Buddy fucked up hard.

  14. 1. WWF SmackDown 2: Know Your Role - I loved this game. I played it as recently as 2 years ago. It's a fun nostalgic trip. Big roster for the time, the career mode never got boring (despite it being 8 matches Raw - 8 Matches SD  - 8 Raw - 8 SD - 8 on PPV, next month). It's the first WWE game I owned and we played it sooooo much. I'm surprised the disk still works.
    2. Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance - I wasn't sure what version of MK to put, as I've been playing the series since the first one came out on the Super NES. But I went with this one as it was a game changer with the 3D graphics and fighting world, the story mode, create a fighter, etc. Its the game that really made me learn and get into the mythology of the series.
    3. The Sims - All iterations really, but the original Sims introduced the series to me and I still play Sims 4 on the regular.
    4. Extreme Warfare Revenge - Goes without saying how important it's been. Brought me here, years ago, and I've played it to death. Legacy continues to this day with TEW 20.
    5. Pokemon Red/Blue - Interchangeable here, my brother and I each had one and we swapped them constantly. I've gone back to it more than once over the last 20 years, and between Pokemon Sun, Pokemon Go and Pokemone Shield.. not to mention countless fan made versions for the Emulators. It's been a series that played a large part of my gaming life.

  15. I'm hoping for Crystal, she really won me over progressively, but I can see Gigi taking it which would not be bad either. Jada is so uninteresting to me as a whole, so I'm hoping it isn't her... but I suspect she's got a good shot.

  16. I saw that show too and wanted to watch it, I didn't know what it was about.

And what's interesting is my perception of Drag when I first watched the show was this big flamboyant caricature of a woman lipsynching. Exaggerated make up, over the top hair and gowns... Like Divine.

I think that's why I loved Nina West on season 11, or [redacted] now (I hate to admit and it's such a shame but she's a strong contender) or even Sasha Velour, who morphed that aesthetic but still had the qualities I recognized as Drag (hers was one of the first seasons I had seen). So, for me the show definitely changed me pre-conceived notion of what drag is and definitely highlighted the artistry behind creating these characters. I still tend to be more interested by the ones with that over the top aesthetic and performance......

And what's funny, personally, about what you said of drag being initially a face, an outfit and a lipsynch..... I don't particularly find RuPaul to be a great representation of that, at all. I find her a great female impersonator, and a pretty good entertainer as a whole, but I usually despise her choice of gowns.... and I've never seen her lipsynch so I can't comment on that (i know she's  singer but still, haven't seen her do it to be honest). But she's pretty and fishy... and I think that's why she tends to occasionally favour queens that fit that type of aesthetic more so than the classic drag you've described (really, I can think of no winners that fit that classic drag queen mould).

Anyways.... the whole thing is interesting. Thanks for those shows, I'll check them out.

When I envision drag excellence, I mean more so the paint and the gowns. And Jaida looks stunning every time she is in drag. Gigi and Crystal have interesting themes and make it camp. But Jaida is polished and stunning each time she does drag.

It is interesting because we are at a time in drag where it is defined by Drag Race. 20 years ago, drag was really about make up skills, an outfit, an ability to MC a bar and, most importantly, a great lip sync. That is why drag race the show culminates with the lip sync. But Drag Race has made singing, music videos, high concepts, a popping personality is what is associated with drag. Queens appear on Drag Race having never worked a bar before. It is super interesting how it is expanding to encapsulate other things. That is why when I hear or say drag excellence I think of a great mug and a stunning gown.

For anyone interested in the history, check out Paris Is Burning. It is like watching drag race but 30 years ago.

Thats cool. I meant no offense :) I certainly don't think Jaida is a bad Drag Queen at all. And yes, admittedly my experience with Drag is quite limited. I had gone to a show, exactly as you said, MC / Hosted by one, about 7 years ago and that was my first real exposure to drag (I mean I worked in a gay club for about a year and so I had seen people come in dressed in drag, but our place never hosted events or whatnot so I actually hadn't seen a drag performance prior to that one... the rest were essentially crossdressers as far as I knew at the time).

So aside from that, I started watching Drag race a few years ago on netflix and what attracted me most to the show is the performance aspect and I kept looking at what they were doing it and relating to my acting experience / training and clown training and realized it was an actual art form. And a really intriguing one. I think that's why I really dig the celebrity one, because you're seeing these artists apply their trade / training and discovering drag and it's super fascinating. I'd love a non-novelty version of that, full season length, of watching people discovering and growing in drag.

    Speaking aout Celebrity Drag Race

    Spoiler

what a great episode. I mean, genuinely the best roast I had seen on the show, and it was great seeing these celebs get with the tucking part compared to episode one. They really got much more immersed in the experience, and I think it's great. Also great to see a comedian known as being the typical straight jock type guy do the show and do it seriously. Ross was right with his comments about that.

And good to know about the documentary, it was on my list but I'll definitely check it out soon.

  18. I like Gigi, but I agree she isn't as strong a contender for the crown in my mind now than she was early on (and the fact that she's only 21 shows she HAS talent... winning and working with Ru's team afterwards will only help her). Crystal has really, really grown on me and I agree, the more I see her the more I appreciate her art and "get it", so to speak. She is really genius and I think she's got a real shot at winning, especially considering Yvie Oddly won the previous season over poised competitor Brooke Lynn Hytes. Personally would love to see the two of them with Jackie Cox in the finals.

I have to disagree with Jaida being "drag excellence". She's fallen really flat with me for the most part, she's good, but she fades in the background for me more often than not. I agree that Sherry should have been in the bottom based on the time thing and, again, doing the same old same old... but, personal life aside, she does represent the quintessential drag queen people think of. She's like Divine in a sense, she's talented and she has the classic drag look. I can see why she gets away with it, because her drag is really polished and established as it is. The show rarely rewards people who change it up, despite often asking certain queens to change it up (think Bebe winning season 1, she never switched it up. she's a great queen, but she knew her drag and didn't stray).

I can't be upset about Heidi going home though. I enjoyed her, but she was the weakest one of the remaining queens.
