  1. I think Ayre thought that Fulham would eventually cave but never bothered to improve his offer.

It's been said a few times in this thread but a pay-as-you-play for Michael Owen probably wouldn't be a terrible move for a short term thing. Manage him well, bring him on late on.

This would be the smartest option. He has a knack of scoring and as Hbob said, bring him on for 15 mins and he'll do a job, at least until January. But I doubt we're that smart

  2. I'm far more amused by Rodgers thinking its better to have no backup strikers than having Carroll.

He doesn't think that though does he. He spent most of yesterday trying to sign Clint Dempsey and Daniel Sturridge. He just failed to get it done.

No Rodgers didn't "fail to get it done" Ian Ayre did, the manager doesn't negotiate transfers. The plan was to bring in Dempsey and Sturridge, that didn't happen and there was no plan B.

  3. Fuck off Spurs.

The blame lays within for this one, not Spurs swooping in.

Exactly, we should have made a bid weeks ago instead of faffing about. It's been well established we've been interested but instead we did nothing and lost out.

If we come away with nothing today we need to seriously look at how the club is run and make big changes because something isn't working right at all

  4. So Essien to Real Madrid and Dempsey to Spurs are the late deals we're getting right now. Liverpool fans must be pissed off about Dempsey.

It's just stupid that we dicked about for so long I've it. It should have been sorted works ago really, then we should have looked at having a clear out. But now we're left with virtually nothing up front. If Suarez and Borini get injured we're looking decidedly dodgy for goals.

  5. If Rodgers signs either nobody or just Dempsey tonight, then I'm sorry but Liverpool are screwed.Or it'll look that way at least.

I wouldn't say screwed, but not looking brilliant. It would leave our squad looking very thin. And as good of a prospect as Morgan may be, I wouldn't want to look t him as our third choice striker and our main "off the bench" attacking option. We need a striker. Has Michael Owen signed for anyone :shifty:

  6. Mo Farrah in the 5000 metres was incredible, I'd missed the 10000 as I was at a wedding, but saw the second gold and was shouting at ye tv with my family.

Watching Jade Jones win was probably the tensest I've felt watching a gold being won at these Games. She's from

Not too far from me and I really wanted her to win. And she was an outside bet before the games too which made it even better.

Chris Hoy in the Kerrin was pretty special too, so glad he got gold, he deserves it.

  7. I looked on BBC America on demand and it looks like it has Seasons 3 and 4. Does that sound right?

They have David Tennant as The Doctor, so it won't get you caught up with what's happening now, but both worth watching. Season 4 in particular is fantastic.

  8. Seven years? Liverpool finished second three/four seasons ago.

And getting into the latter stages of the Champions League in 2009.

Maybe Dan just isn't very good at counting?

CL winners in 2005, never hit that height again = downward.

Actually fuck it, I agree with rockbox, all hail rockbox and his wonderful knowledge of Liverpool.

    Bloody armchair supporter.

Of course another champions league final and a second place finish with a big points total is nothing.

But it isn't winning something, is it?

Would you accept the appointment of, say, Mick McCarthy or Allardyce because of Villa's recent season?

That has nothing to do with anything.

Getting to the final isn't as good as winning it, which is what I was responding to.

Did I say anything about Liverpool should be happy to get Martinez because of last season? I really don't remember typing that.

    Because I didn't.

You waded into a conversation that has basically been suggesting that.

The point about the league and CL final were brought up because Dan suggest we'd been on a downward spiral since 2005. That clearly wasn't the case, as we improved in the league right up until Benitez's penultimate season. The last few years have been poor, but I don't think sufficiently enough to get us to the point where we need to be taking managers from teams that have barely avoided relegation.

I waded in to say getting to the final isn't the same achievement as winning it.

I also don't think you, or we, should be after Martinez. Whelan thinks he's Jesus, but he's hanging on in there every season and not impressing. His team isn't improving.

    Well yeah, that's obvious >_>

I agree. I don't get the infatuation with Martinez. He comes across as a nice guy but... that's it. I'd rather go for Rodgers and I don't really want Rodgers.

I agree that I'd rather have Rodgers over Martinez. I'm

Not sure who I'd want that we could realistically get. I said to mates yesterday when we sacked Kenny that we'd get Martinez, but as everyone has said he's not done a great deal at Wigan other than keep them up. There's no-one that's been mentioned that I think "ye I really want him".
