  1. Our story all started on the faithful day in the early 2000s when a Shinigami entered the humans' living realm. Some thing that while not completely unheard of, very rarely happened. For there were many methods of peaking into it and most Shinigami spent their time watching these, and doing their work. Not that it mattered much; most humans were unable to spot them and had dismissed them as mere legends and fables of old that were silly.

Bored out of his mind, this god of death had decided to have a little fun in the human world and conduct an experiment of sorts. It was this experiment and desire for some thing interesting that led him to drop from his person some thing into this realm where the humans dwelled. To the uneducated eye of a human, it was some thing that they saw every day of their daily lives. Though to any Shinigami, it was far more than that as it was the tool that they used to send humans to their graves...

    A notebook.

    A Death Note.

From every location that the Shinigami could've chose, it selected one that it understood was the most populated at times during the day, a high school. With all these humans around, it was only a matter of when and not if one of them noticed the Death Note and touched the dreaded collection of paper. Out of all of the students and teachers, it was a ace student and genius prodigy that finally noticed it and had the will to go over and pick it up from the grass. At least in the hands of a person so intelligent and aspired to be a officer of the law, what was the worst that could happen?

Deaths around the world, all of them criminals and the first few thousand waves were all mysterious heart attacks. The power of the Death Note and interaction with a Shinigami of myth corrupted the young man that had seemed to have such a bright future ahead of him. Earth's United Nations debated what actions they had to take to counteract this entity that was becoming a cult hero on the internet. One of, if not the, greatest detective of the world became apart of the case to capture and punish this fiend that seemingly had a god complex.

Well... things weren't going to be boring any time soon.

I had been considering this idea for a while, ever since the last anime mafia actually. I know a couple of Mafias are still running right now but figured if nothing else, it couldn't hurt to put up the sign up sheet. So, fans of the show and/or anime rejoice, and to those unaware with it, it shouldn't be too bad to pick up on after reading that lil' intro & your role PMs. If there are any more troubles, there's always wikipedia too (:P).

  2. Yeah, they're a catchy lil' band that is kinda like Gir (or, most of the more dumb humor in Invader Zim/JtHM/Ect) if made into a band. But they are far from the greatest thing to ever grace the Earth. As well as I think they are starting to suffer from the over hype machine. Which tells me there will be a backlash machine in a matter of a year, tops.

And, I always saw Jimmy getting love as the same reason most ass holes in all medias get love.

  3. Why is it that the mentor/student relationship is always awkward and slightly uncomfortable in anime? I was channel surfing last night and caught Bleach - Yoruichi with some Soi.. something.. girl - and the Soi chick kept babbling on about how much she would have followed Yoruichi anywhere and idolized her and it was just.. very awkward. Bizarre. Bleach isn't the only one to do it, though, because it seems like in a fair bit of anime you wind up with that mentor/student relationship that seems to be borderlining on lesbian. It's just bizarre that they apparently can't get the "mentor/student" relationship down just right. >_>

Well...I can't speak for all animes but in that case Cloudy it is because...they are yuri/lesbians. It's a lot more obvious that is what they are going for in the Japanese version from what I've seen.

Edited Note: Least on Soi's half of the relationship, they kinda leave it more up in the air on Yoruichi's half.

  4. Ah, Kevin Smith...He's a odd topic for me. There are at least some aspects of his movies that I really adore and for the most part, I love each of them. The only ones I'd say I was slightly in the middle about and/or neutral over was Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back & Jersey Girl. Though that might be because in the case of J&SBSB, it felt like a giant "Hey! Let's throw in as many cameos from my previous movies as we can!" and left me feeling let down at the time when it was going to be the "last" Jay & Silent Bob related movie.

That said, J&SBSB might also be the case of the ever revolving door on my tastes when it comes to his movies. Some days I'll prefer Clerks or Chasing Amy (where the duo have limited roles, especially in the latter), other days it'll be Mallrats or Dogma or Clerks II(where the duo are more apart of the main cast, in my opinion). Each of them have their own quirks to them and messages/views, some of them are a little more clear than other ones (like, Chasing Amy's message is far more clear than Clerks' to me). Plus, Dogma aside all of them involve the hopeless romantic loser, and I've been there, done that (thus can relate to it).

Jersey Girl on the other hand, I had wanted to see at the movies but it never got any where near me. By the time it was out on video, every one had already condemned it as a piece of crap. Granted, his other movies have been bashed about just as hard but never by his own fanbase. Eventually I saw it and went "This? This is the thing that people threw their arms up over?" and shrugged, and moved on.

But I'm well aware of the limits Kevin Smith has too, and realize he's not the be all, end all of directors despite my own liking of him. And, can see why some people don't like him, especially with his strong views & at times harsh (albeit witty) lines in his movies. Not to mention that much like video games, we are moving more & more towards a society that bases their enjoyment of a flick on the visuals rather than the plot. So, for those folks (that want C.G.I. up the yin yang, too many huge explosions to count, dramatic and innovative sweeping massive camera angles, ect)...Kevin Smith films aren't for them.

  5. Pretty much "Lonely Road of Faith" (I BELIEVE that's the one, might've been "Only God Knows Why" or one of his other slower songs...) by Kid Rock is "Freebird" by Lynyrd Skynyrd note for note with different lyrics (and a rap interlude) slapped on.

  6. While I don't care for them, I have to at least give Breaking Benjamin's lead singer props for having been with Becky Bayless.

Though yeah, Seether's the only one out of that lot I listen to. None the less, glad you enjoyed the concert.

  7. Like many music fans, I go through "phases" in what I get the itch to listen to. Right now it seems like I'm really into listening to female singers & female rappers for one reason or another. Because of that it made me think of this topic, what are some of your favorites of the opposite gender (or, same if you are one of the few on EWB that is female)? Any certain songs or albums by them that mean some thing to you, ect?

  8. I'll echo GoGo's love for the Pillows, first time I heard them was years back when at a Con I stumbled upon a anime that had just come out in Japan called "Furi Curi", and as they say, the rest is history. Whenever I pop in one of their tunes images of that show instantly flood back into my mind, and I honestly think they are as much apart of it as any thing else in it. Admittedly, that resulted in a strange moment when I tried to read the manga form of FLCL. But yeah, the Pillows are epic.

X is another good one, Rusty Nail I especially have a soft spot for, and there's a bunch more I could ramble off but most have already said them.

  9. Well, pretty much every body and their brother called it, the second one will more than likely be via the other guy on the bridge's P.O.V. Hopefully they give us some thing new with this one, I'm guessing one of the characters manages to survive with the camera (possibly via the army's help) & runs into whatsherface (the one that survived from the first) to further tie it all in. Since as Mikel said, rarely JJ do any thing without a purpose in mind when he charts it out. With that in mind there is probably more than just a "she was the lucky survivor role" mentalty working behind it when it was written.

Like many others I loved the movie, it really was some thing special and that's why I feel so conflicted with more installments. On the one hand, like most good pieces of work it has left me wanting more and on the other, I don't want my enjoyment of it to be tainted by shitty sequels. Guess I'll just have to have faith in their ability to not screw it up for the time being.

Though that other movie sounds absolutely blah.
