  1. Close enough - it's the cover by the mighty, mighty Four Year Strong.

1: This sound is so romantic (let's tear it up!)

2: Before you say a word, before you turn away Strung Out - Don't Look Back [YI]

3: You've got me stuck on repeat Little Boots - Stuck on Repeat [YI]

4: Outside my window I see trouble

5: If you leave I'll be right behind you

6: She's walking around, she's got her headphones on Benbrick - Reckless Encounters [YI]

7: When Jack was born he winked at mom

8: I woke up on a sofa in an unfamiliar house Frank Turner - The Real Damage [LD]

9: Somebody tell me how to get to Saint Maria Strung Out - Jack Knife [YI]

10: You think that we connect Four Year Strong - Spiderwebs [badotori]

    Clue time!

1: Blackpool based pop-punk band, lead guitarist died last year.

4: The artist topped YI's 2008 Best Albums list, this is from the follow-up.

5: Long-running Californian punk band, singer recently left.

7: YI basically had it, anyone wanna give the correct song title?

Eagerly awaiting YI coming in here and kicking himself, I'm surprised he didn't get all ten straight away. I'm shit at giving clues, so they're all well obvious, you should at least get the bands.

  2. 5 is Gaslight Anthem - Navesink Banks.

Fuck it, might as well add another list.

Some of those are well easy. :/

  3. Frank Turner has announced March dates. Well, he announced them about ten days ago, but I've just found out the support. CHUCK RAGAN.

16th March @ The Picture House, Edinburgh

    17th March @ Academy 1, Manchester

    18th March @ Academy 1, Leeds

    19th March @ Academy 1, Bristol

    21st March @ Academy 1, Birmingham

22nd March @ The Waterfront, Norwich

23rd March @ The Pyramids, Portsmouth

24th March @ The Roundhouse, London

Leeds Academy 1 is a two minute walk from my uni accommodation, so I'm there.

  4. Yeah, my top 7 is fairly solid, but for 8, 9 and 10, I was thinking of the fanny. :shifty:

If I wasn't, AWS and Hot Water Music would definitely be in there somewhere. I had loads of candidates for the last few spots, it was well hard to narrow it down.

  5. 1: Strung Out

    2: The Gaslight Anthem

    3: Frank Turner

    4: Dropkick Murphys

    5: Bruce Springsteen

    6: The Prodigy

    7: The Low Anthem

    8: Little Boots

    9: Slow Club

    10: Marina and the Diamonds

I have seen 9/10 of these in the past 12 months, 7/10 at Glastonbury. Not bad at all. Though I had to do dark, dark things to see Frank Turner... It involved travelling to Middlesbrough. :(

  6. Frankie Boyle has quit current affairs satirical quiz show Mock The Week after seven series.

According to a statement from the BBC, the acerbic team captain has left to 'concentrate on other TV commitments' just a week after he missed filming the show for the first time, reportedly because of an undisclosed illness.

The news come as it was confirmed that the show has been recommissioned for two more series by BBC Two.

BBC Two controller Janice Hadlow said: "Mock The Week is a major part of the BBC Two schedule, regularly delivering wit and energy to an enthusiastic audience.

"This two series commitment shows just how much we value it."

Angst Productions series producer Dan Patterson meanwhile released a statement saying: "Frankie has been a brilliant member of the team since the beginning and the door is always open for him to come back. We wish him all the best with his other projects."

    :(

  7. So Wikipedia has it listed for UFC 108 on Jan 2nd that Wanderlei Silva is fighting Yoshihiro Akiyama. Is there any substance to that at all? I haven't heard anything about it till now. Seems to me that if it does take place they're pushing for a credible win for Wanderlei to get him in with Anderson Silva.

Best I can tell from a quick search, one of the Bloody Elbow guys heard a rumour about it, and that qualifies as fact on Wikipedia these days.

  8. I suppose you could consider Kid Cudi alternative hip-hop so I'd recommend him.

After listening to A Kid Named Cudi, no. Just no. Wale's "Mixtape About Nothing", however, is essential listening. Though whether either of them could be considered "alternative" hip-hop is debatable.

This has been pimped so far only by me, and to no response, so I will repimp with the aid of capitals.

    NEW LE SAC VS PIP.

    GLASTONBURY.

    I WAS THERE.

    KEITH SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE.

    IT WAS FUCKING BRILLIANT.

not gonna lie, I spent half that set trying to figure out who was Keith. :shifty:

  9. Anything above 4 stars means I’m definitely checking them out, above three and I’ll probably remember them in a few months. Below two means it’s shit. Five stars means Strung Out.

    1. "She's Space Invader" by I Hate This Place ****

    2. "River" by Lights ****1/4

    3. "80's Pop Video" by Alphabet Backwards **1/2

    4. "C-C-C-Cat" by Violet Violet ***1/4 (added a star because blonde would well get it)

    5. "An Ink Blot In A Blood Clot" by Blitz Kids ***1/2

    6. "Farewell To Iron Bastards" by Banner Pilot ***3/4

    7. "Save Your Love" by Sally Shapiro ***1/4

    8. "Two Satchels Of Light" by Weatherbox *1/4

    9. "Dance For The Guilty (Liar Liar)" by Kiss Your Commander ****1/2 (FIIIIIIIT singer. And they’re local! The bassist looks about 12 though, haha)

    10. "Let's Hear It For Capitalism" by Math The Band ***1/2 (not my favourite MTB song by any stretch of the imagination)

    11. "We Are The Men" by Mutiny On The Bounty ***1/2

    12. "Plays One On TV" by Castevet **3/4

    13. "The Common Cold" by A Woman Of No Importance ****1/4

    18. "Binoculars" by Short Term Effect ****

    19. "A Note To Say" by Saint & The Cynics ***3/4

    20. "Pretending" by Gasoline Heart ****1/2

I have to say, Weatherbox disappointed me, since you’ve hyped them so much for ages. But, that’s 4/5 bands I’d never heard of before that I need to go check out pretty much immediately, so not a bad Gaylist. Pales in comparison to the first one of the year, which is still the best Gaylist ever (special/coverlists excluded). And has just reminded me that I missed Two Door Cinema Club tonight, fuck. Oh well, they’re playing a free gig on the 23rd, I’ll live until then.
