  1. I could see Jones/Bader winner looking at Rampage/Silva winner depending on the outcome of Machida/Couture.

Toss in that MMAJunkie is now reporting Phil Davis/Matt Hamill for UFC129 and Franklin/Griffin already on tap the 205 division is looking more interesting in the upcoming months.

  2. Since it applies here:

Chael Sonnen, an ultimate fighting champion and one-time candidate for a seat in Congress, has pleaded to a federal money laundering charge.A licensed Realtor from West Linn, Sonnen admitted before a judge Monday that he conducted a financial transaction designed to hide or disguise the ownership and control of proceeds of mortgage fraud, according to a U.S. Department of Justice press release.

The development is the latest during a rough stretch for Sonnen.

The UFC middleweight is suspended from fighting after reportedly testing positive for drugs in late 2010.

Sonnen had dropped out of the race for House District 37 last June citing a 2006 “legal issue” demanding his attention.

After he bowed out, the Republican party chose Julie Parrish, a political newcomer from West Linn, to replace Sonnen in the race against Democrat Will Rasmussen, a lawyer from West Linn. Parrish won election as House 37’s representative in November.

Marcus Williams, a special agent in charge of IRS criminal investigations for the Pacific Northwest, issued a public statement about Sonnen’s case.

“West Linn residents, and other residents throughout the Portland-Vancouver area, can rest assured knowing that federal law enforcement agencies take mortgage fraud very seriously because it played a major role in almost crippling this nation’s banking system just a few years ago,” he said.

Money laundering carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison and a $500,000 fine.

    Sonnen’s sentencing is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. March 28

    Just one of the sources.

  3. I was thinking why are there spoilers in a UFC thread? Forgetting the prelims, eugh, clarify next time, please?

I thought that's what the event discussion thread was? I remember we had the whole issue against this with the Super Bowl issue so stuff was supposed to stay out of the news threads and status updates now?

  4. I have been thinking about going back to school recently and want to pursue something film related. I have always wanted to be more of writer and director but it seems as if most of the schooling focuses on production. So would something such as as Associates of Applied Arts focusing on Visual Arts & Film Specialization still be a wise choice?

  5. (American) Football:

    1. Ben Roethlisberger

    MMA:

    1. Anderson Silva

Will there be a discussion thread for this down the road? I am curious as to how Anderson Silva and Ben Roethlisberger top #1 on JohnnyPerfect's list.

Ben is there simply because the Steelers are the main team I follow in NFL and I don't get to see enough of everything else, it's hard enough watching them on a weekly basis. Could of left that section blank, but decided not to. Silva is there because he's the best fighter on the planet in my opinion and had one of the top fights with Sonnen (beat Maia and broke the record in the process too). Again, this is a list of peoples opinions. Nothing is a fact. If we all put down the same people then what would be the point? If everybody disagrees with those two, then no worries, because they'll get no more votes and wont make the list.

Acknowledged. However, once this is closes I fully plan to retort completely. Not to be a dick, but for debate sake.

  6. Baseball: Cliff Lee

    MMA:

    1. Ben Askren: Solidified himself as probably the top welterweight prospect in the sport at this time. Four victories, a tournament and a championship to his resume within 2010.

    2. Chris Lytle: Put on three of the most impressive performances of his career which have taken him from 'career gatekeeper' to within title contention.

    3. Chris Leben: Rebounded from failed drug test controversy and a poor showing upon his return in 2009 with three solid victories in 2010. One of which derailed a top touted contender and another which broke his opponents undefeated run. Eying title contention within a single fight. One of the most exciting and talk about fighters of 2010 with the Sexyama submission in the running for upset and submission of year by many.

While I juggled the idea of a number of big names in the MMA category I think the best stuff truly came from the those outside of the title scenes this year. Obviously this is just my personal opinion of how I viewed the sport and is in no way meant to discredit the accomplishments of those fighters.

  7. The fight is very unlikely to happen. Coleman is apparently campaigning for the fight as Lashley isn't interested anymore (supposedly).

EDIT* Interestingly enough, MiddleEasy is reporting in the "rumor mill":

Now that it's pretty much confirmed that Bobby Lashley is taking on Alistair Overeem at Dynamite!! 2010, apparently Sergei Kharitonov was next in line to bang against Ubereem

Honestly, I'd rather see Sergei get the fight.

  8. I am trying to find the picture now, but someone used to have an avatar (I believe) with a shirt that said "You Will Hate Me". If I can find it would you be willing to trying recreating it?

TheRyno IIRC, whatever his name was, he did Era of The Advisor or something like that, was a decent long term WWE game.

    Ah yes, thank you!

  9. Not a fan of the damage criteria, could potentially set the sport back if the rules are successful and eventually adopted. It's hard enough getting it sanctioned as it is. Even worse it would just feed the "look at his face after the fight, he totally lost" trolls that wouldn't understand the concept.

  10. Hopefully your thread actually sees the light of day. dry.gif

Fan.Fucking.Tastic. show. It's a shame that the season finale is next week and they haven't been renewed yet.

Since spoilers are out, I'm not tagging, but I saw Jason getting killed coming for some time. I just couldn't figured out how it was going to end up going down. Of course, with Hank being Hank he had to be involved in it when he was just trying to help him out. Can't wait for next week.

  11. I tried starting a thread for Terriers awhile back, but nothing seemed to come of it so I'll post here about it: I'm still thinking this show is amazing. A slow episode here or there but last week was really good. Completely solid episode that has me legit pumped for tonights show.

It's such a shame that it's sitting on the edge of renewal due to ratings. It's a great show that could benefit from even 1/3 of the marketing that Sons' is getting.

  12. The time issue may have cost Harris his job. Had he lost in the first round he probably would have been given another prelim or UFN chance and worked his way up, but instead he put up three full rounds of nothing which soured him overall. Getting finished in the first might have faired better for him in the long run rather than taking up time and doing nothing, especially during that last round. Dana has openly said it's about the exciting fighters, not the ones that just stand there.

  13. From the outside looking in it seems like Sotiropoulos is facing the marketing issue. Casual fans started getting behind Siver after they saw his nasty spinning back kick finish. For some reason Sotiropoulos just isn't catching on like a fighter with is record should be. He can finish opponents but is missing some key element in exposure. My own thinking here, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Siver/Sotiropoulos fight was to give the casual fans a chance to see Sotiropoulos possibly pick up a victory over an opponent with 'devastating striking' as they refer to his signature kick as. Strikers push the sport on the casual fan and I could see this being the fight to elevate him from mid tier to upper echelon with a victory.

That's how I am personally viewing the fight from a business standpoint. Outside of the marketing needed to build him up, I am 100% behind the idea that someone on a 7-0 streak deserves a title shot. Sadly he's racked up his wins seemingly under the radar and while he deserves a chance it would leave most non-hardcore viewers asking "who is this guy?".
