  1. So the Premier League fixtures are upon us again. United play Birmingham at Old Trafford tomorrow afternoon 3pm, and I fully expect to win. I think we'll run out easy winners and I predict 5-0 to the mighty Red Devils!! :D

    Other fixtures this weekend are;

    Saturday

    Wolverhampton v Liverpool, 12:45

    Arsenal v Wigan, 15:00

    Blackpool v Sunderland, 15:00

    Everton v West Ham, 15:00

    Fulham v Stoke, 15:00

    Man Utd v Birmingham, 15:00

    Newcastle v Tottenham, 15:00

    Aston Villa v Man City, 17:30

    Sunday

    Blackburn v West Brom, 16:00

    Monday

    Bolton v Chelsea, 20:00

    On a side note, does anyone do the Sky Sports Fantasy Football? I've got my own mini-league and was wondering if there was any other leagues I could join??

  2. "One early line from the tabloids this morning sees Liverpool reported to be closing in on the £18million signing of Ajax forward Luis Suarez."

    "Reports are reaching us from Holland that Eidur Gudjohnsen could be set to end his unhappy spell with Stoke with Ajax and PSV both keen on the veteran striker."

    "Another rumour doing the rounds this morning sees Fulham boss Mark Hughes linked with a loan swoop for young Chelsea striker Gael Kakuta."

    "Blackburn are keen to secure the services of key defender Chris Samba by offering the defender, who has been linked with Aston Villa and Arsenal, a new deal at Ewood Park, according to reports this morning."

    "Aston Villa defender Stephen Warnock could be on his way out of the club following an apparent bust-up with Gerard Houllier, if reports in this morning's papers are to be believed."

    "Reports in Italy suggest that Aston Villa, West Ham and Everton are ready to challenge Sunderland for the signature of Inter Milan's Sulley Muntari."

    "Tottenham are reported to be tracking Giuseppe Rossi with Villarreal believed to be ready to accept a £16.5million bid for the striker's services."

  3. I personally thought Blackburn would struggle when they got rid of Alladyce, but they've had a couple of decent showings since. Didn't know much about Steve Kean before hand but the Indian owners must see something in him to give him an extended contract. I think Blackburn will have a big summer, not sure how much exactly they'll have to spend but I'm sure it'll be more than recent years, but will they be able to attract the players?

  4. On the subject of waving imaginary cards and swearing.

    I wonder would it make a difference, if, like in rugby, referee's had microphones and you could hear what they and the players are saying to each other?

    I'm sure they tried that once 20 years ago or so, Tony Adams spent the whole game calling David Elleray every name under the sun and it was all heard live on air. Adam's even went as far as shouting 'Cheat' towards Elleray in the game and for everyone to hear, they promise never to mic up the refs again after the incident.

  5. Canada squad because I saw it wasn't up there;

    Ashish Bagai (captain), Rizwan Cheema (vice-captain), Harvir Baidwan, Khurram Chohan, John Davison, Parth Desai, Tyson Gordon, Ruvindu Gunasekera, Amarbir Hansra, Nitish Kumar, Henry Osinde, Hiral Patel, Balaji Rao, Zubin Surkari, Karl Whatham.

  6. Nadal through to Round3 easy this morning, 6-2 6-1 6-1 against US qualifier Ryan Sweeting. Murray vs Illya Marchenko to start very soon according to BBC, I thought it was gonna be 8am so I'm just watching a couple of nice looking foreign women players play at the moment :w00t:

  7. Ah cool, was a bit undecided whether to start the thread myself yesterday when I posted the England squad, but you have done a much better job than I would have. England have a huge chance to win the World Cup this time round, our cricket in every format has been top notch for about two years now.

    If we can get Pietersen firing more centuries and also if we can get Collingwood chipping in a bit more with the bat then that would boost our chances. Bell and Trott are both in amazing form with the bat, Strauss always chips in too, but I'm gonna predict a big tournament Eoin Morgan. I like how this lad bats and I think he's gonna be a big player for us, not only for the World Cup, but for years to come in all formats.

    Bowler-wise I don't have too many worries, when you see Swann, Anderson and Broad in the line-up it fills you with confidence! I think Ajmal Shahzad will be the suprise bowler for England, he should pitch in with a good few wickets.

  8. Early rumours in the papers;

    "Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn has ruled out a move for Tottenham striker Robbie Keane as they search for a replacement for Darren Bent."

    "Sunderland boss Steve Bruce will approach his former manager Sir Alex Ferguson about signing Manchester United veteran Michael Owen this month as a replacement for Darren Bent."

    "Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor has been cleared to approach his old club Monaco with a view to a cut-price £9m transfer."

    "Tottenham are weighing up a move to bring Villarrreal's Giuseppe Rossi, formerly of Manchester United, back to English football, according to the Independent."

    "Everton players Victor Anichebe and Seamus Coleman have both signed new four-and-a-half year deals at the club."

    "Reports in France suggest that Fulham have moved into pole position ahead of Bordeaux and Lille in the race to sign Chelsea youngster Gael Kakuta on loan. The 19-year-old playmaker, who is tired to the Stamford Bridge club until 2015, is keen to bolster his first-team experience."

    "Bolton have signed defender David Wheater from Middlesbrough for an undisclosed fee on a three-and-a-half-year deal."

    See I would have been happy for Owen to go before Christmas, the lad deserves better than sitting on the bench every week. But now Macheda has gone out on loan with Wellbeck already at Sunderland and Diouf at Blackburn, if he goes it leaves us with only 3 recognised forwards in Berbatov, Rooney and Hernandez. Granted Bebe and Obertan could possibly play a more central attacking role if needed but with them being played mainly in wide areas so far in their short United careers, it would be a bit of a gamble.

    So I'd much prefer to keep Owen unless Fergie is gonna call back Wellbeck, or to a lesser extent Diouf but in reality a loan signing for a striker is maybe the better option. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens...

  9. I was pretty impressed with that match me. 3-1 to Arsenal in the end, and it was a proper Cup tie! Credit to Leeds for taking to Arsenal the whole game, they could have easily played ugly football and gone for the 1-0 win, but they went all out and unfortunately lost on this occasion. I don't think it'll be too long before Leeds are back in the Prem, maybe next season if they carry on their recent form.

    I for one can't wait for a good old Man United vs Leeds United Premier League game, it has been too long!

  10. Iraq 1-0 North Korea

    UAE 0-3 Iran

    Iran qualify from Group D top, the only team to win all three group games, Iraq finish second on 6pts. North Korea and UAE both eliminated gaining only a point each. Iran play South Korea and Iraq play Australia in the Quarters, both games are on the 22nd.

  11. Kiko Macheda started and now just scored for Sampdoria (the game is on ESPN). Good move for him then!

    Macheda! Class that lad, hope he gets more of a chance next season. He'll score someone alot of goals once he matures, maybe not at United, but at another club. Might be the next Rossi, he'll hang about at United for a couple of years, we'll sell him to a La Liga club with a buy-back clause.

  12. I've heard alot of good things about this lad, and you're right going to City he'd just be sat on the bench. Hopefully it doesn't happen and he'll go somewhere he's gonna play every week. I think Chelsea would be the best move for him, he's a direct replacement for Drogba who only has 2 or 3 more years left at the top level. Either that or he should come United, but we can't afford him :(

  13. A bit off-topic for the thread but here's the World Cup squad for England, the competition takes place between 19 February and 2 April, and India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are hosting the competition.

    Graeme Swann (Nottinghamshire)

    James Tredwell (Kent)

    Jonathan Trott (Warwickshire)

    Luke Wright (Sussex)

    Michael Yardy (Sussex)

  14. Early rumours as always;

    "A couple of wingers also very much in the news this morning with Adam Hammill looking set to opt for Wolves, whilst Shaun Wright-Phillips is being strongly linked with a loan switch to Fulham."

    "Another one that looks set to go through today is Cardiff signing Blackpool defender Dekel Keinan, according to the Daily Mail."

    "The Daily Express claims that Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp wants to add Roma's Mirko Vucinic to his squad, whilst they also report that Branislav Ivanovic is ready to pen a new contract at Chelsea."

    "Kenny Miller looks set to leave Rangers for Bursaspor after agreeing terms but Walter Smith claims both clubs have yet to agree a fee."

    "Thierry Henry is not heading for a shock loan move to Leicester City insists Sven-Goran Eriksson."
