  1. No offense or anything, but a fruitless quick internet search does not necessarily mean something isn't true. Being on Wikipedia doesn't make something right, either. Although I probably should have said that the cracker/slave-owner link was a theory -- as all the others are. And since it is etymology, "proof," in the scientific sense of the word, does not and cannot exist. I agree that those theories are out there, and they are all equally viable. I just pointed out the one that interests me the most. And as for my source, you won't find it online, as its from an as-yet unpublished article by one of my linguistic professors.
  2. I think, perhaps, an investigation of the origin of such terms as "cracker" and "nigger" is in order. "Nigger" is simply a derivation of the term "negro," meaning black. "Cracker", if I recall correctly, is related to the fact that, several hundred years ago, white people used to crack their black slaves with whips. One who makes something crack, is, therefore, a cracker. So "cracker" directly refers to a white man's slave-owning history, while "nigger" refers to skin color. (There are several other etymological explanations for "cracker," none of which are particularly endearing). Of course, there exists several hundred years of use where "nigger" has attained serious negative connotations, and it is justifiably seen as a vile, derogatory word. But I fail to see how "cracker," with the direct implication that the one who is called such is a slave-owner or -trader, is not seen a being nearly as negative a term. Just my two cents.
  3. No. It was WWE Raw. Like two or three months ago, just before it switched over to The Score up here. I'm not saying it shouldn't be on TSN or ESPN, as some may have inferred. Rather, I intended to suggest that non-athletic competitions have as much right to be on a sports channel as do non-competition athletics.
  4. A couple of months ago, I was watching TSN (Canada's version of ESPN, complete with SportsCentre) and I was shocked to see professional wrestling on the channel. I mean, seriously: at least dominoes, chess, Japanese Viking Challenge and the once-ubiquitous spelling bees are actual competitions. If you really think about it, So You Think You Can Dance deserves to be on ESPN more than pro wrestling, as it is both a competition and display of athletics, as opposed to simply being a choreographed athletic display.
  5. All of those are super awesome. 9/10 for all (I rarely give 10/10 on anything), except the 2nd Kurt one. I don't like the effect on him, so 8/10
  6. No worries. I totally understand where you're coming from. And I apologize if my criticism came across as harsh, but if I dislike something I'm not going to mince words. EDIT: And I may be new to posting on this board, but I've been around for several years. Just ask Summers.
  7. That's unfortunate. This place has gotten a lot more civil over the years. I've seen reference to Kou and people here, however. They still kicking around?
  8. That's so very, very cool. There's at least one familiar face here. EDIT: And pertaining to the thread topic: I don't think its really supposed to be anything. Its not one of those stupid Magic Eye things. Paidy just created something, and wanted to know how others felt about it. There is no one right answer, take whatever you want from it. But I don't think Paidy wants me to speak for him/her, so that's just my opinion.
  9. The one and the same. By this recognition, am I to assume that you are Jay Summers?
  10. Creepy and well-blended. Although blending the skull with some of the guys face would have been even cooler, IMO.
  11. It'd work great as a background, as its not too busy but just interesting enough to not be dull. I like.
  12. I'm sorry, which double account did you say you were? You asked what we thought it was. And I told you what I thought it was. I just figured you wanted us to be honest. I guess you only wanted us to praise your skillz. My bad.
  13. A randomly thrown together assemblage of elements by someone who should learn that more is not always better. Remove the snow and the stains and you have a decent jumping off point for something less ridiculous and haphazard. But nothing more. At least that's my opinion.
