  1. I love love love love love this show. It's the funniest thing since Mystery Science Theater 3000 went off the air, and while I've got both seasons on DVD, and season 3 in HDTV rips, I still can't get enough. I'm really looking forward to whatever extras make the season 3 DVD release.

    My favorite exchange:

    Marta: "Te amo!"

    GOB: *exasperated* "English, please."

Marta: "It means, 'I love you'!"

GOB: *holding up watch* "Great. Now I'm late."

    Pure comedic brilliance.

  2. Read anything by Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, Warren Ellis, and Mark Millar.

I'd add Frank Miller to this.

Frank Miller has sucked for a while. His Daredevil run was brilliant, Dark Knight Returns was cool, and Sin City is cool. But he's now at the point where he knows he can just write the dumbest shit ever and so he does. Like, All Star Batman & Robin is Frank Miller just fucking with everyone. It's hilarious to read about but it's still a bad comic book.

  3. Aliens.

    Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.

    Mission Impossible III.

    Mission Impossible II.

Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

    Evil Dead 2.

Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors.

  4. One thing you need to know:

Avoid ANYTHING written by J. Michael Strazynski for Marvel. He may have done great with the Babylon 5 tv series, but his work as a comic writer....for Marvel, anyway......is CRAP!

You're kidding me, right? His run on Spider-Man was one of the best ever, as long as you ignore that Norman Osborne/Gwen Stacy crap.

  5. I came to the conclussion that the The Curse of the Black Pearl is funnier, but Dead Man's Chest is a better all round film, and just blows every other film that's come out in years out of the water (bar Serenity :P, but that's besides the point).

Conversely I think Curse of the Black Pearl was just about better in every way just because it was a great film from start to finish. The first half of Dead Man's Chest is very much like "hey, check it out, we wrote a sequel to Pirates of the Caribbean! Woohoo!" And then it gets awesome from the moment they get to Tortuga onwards. Like, the film could have done with way less cutesy references to the first one.

  6. Hey, Boulder. Few suggestions:

Right now, most mainstream comics are sub-par. Batman's weak, Spider-Man's mediocre, and Superman's just boring. If you really want some Superman, though, pick up All-Star Superman. There's only four issues out, but everything about it is classic Superman updated for a modern audience.

I also recommend the following in addition to All-Star Superman:

Astonishing X-Men. Best X-Men ever. It's written by Joss Whedon, the same guy who did Buffy and Angel. It's highly character driven, succint, and memorable. Very accessible as well.

Planetary. It's written by a guy named Warren Ellis, who uses this book to riff on pop-culture throughout the ages while still telling an incredible story about a team of "mystery archaeologists". It's set to end soon, but you can pick up the trades and any issues not already collected. Must be read to believed.

Ex Machina. It's about a guy who can talk to machines who's elected mayor of New York. Very relevant and intelligent, it juxtaposes his previous superhero exploits alongside his mayoral duties.

The Walking Dead. Like a long-term Romero flick in comic book form. Probably the best zombie story ever told.

The Eternals. Written by Neil Gaiman who is one of the two best writers in comics today, it deals with an elder race of superpowered beings adapting and living in the modern world. Only one issue out, so you can jump on.

Y - The Last Man. The best written comic book today, it deals with a man named Yorick, who, due to a virus which has killed all human males except for him, is literally the last man on Earth. Very feminist, but incredibly poignant.

  7. Just got back from seeing this -- fucking amazing film. Perfect balance between the comedy and drama, awesome villains, great acting, gripping storyline...this is, hands down, my movie of the year thus far. I totally plan on seeing it again -- there was nothing bad about this movie. Nothing. I hope Disney makes a billion dollars on this flick. They deserve every penny.
